Santhosh Shekar is an knowledge management practitioner in various industries. His current mission is to make KM function an integral part of every organization globally. Systematic and thorough, his book, " Design Knowledge Management System ", is designed to assist knowledge management practitioners complete their goal in an organization successfully. This book suggests that managing knowledge and accomplishing organization’s goals can only be done using the right implementing of ISO 30401 KMS standard. Setting a milestone and utilizing systematic questioning are also important. Shekar writes in a methodical way himself. And this makes the book easy to follow and understand. It is obvious that the author knows exactly what he is talking about. Better still, he knows how to impart knowledge in a way that is easy to understand. This book is a must have for anyone who wants to learn additional knowledge management tools like the frame work for decision making, steer ahead of competition curve effectively, mastering the job of team management and other relevant topics.
Design Knowledge Management System is filled with a wealth of information. This book provides a practical approach to designing and implementing a Knowledge Management (KM) standards. The book explains how 30401 design KMS align business goals with KM objectives. The book also presents an approach for implementing KMS Standards so as to make it sustainable. It covers all basic KMS concepts, components of KMS and the steps that are required for designing a KM strategy. As a result, the book can be used by beginners as well as practitioners.
Knowledge management is a discipline that promotes an integrated approach to identifying, capturing, evaluating, retrieving, and sharing all of an enterprise's information assets. These assets may include databases, documents, policies, procedures, and previously un-captured expertise and experience in individual workers. Knowledge is considered to be the learning that results from experience and is embedded within individuals. Sometimes the knowledge is gained through critical thinking, watching others, and observing results of others. These observations then form a pattern which is converted in a ‘generic form’ to knowledge. This implies that knowledge can be formed only after data (which is generated through experience or observation) is grouped into information and then this information pattern is made generic wisdom. However, dissemination and acceptance of this knowledge becomes a key factor in knowledge management. Many organizations have struggled to manage knowledge and translate it into business benefits. This book is an attempt to show them how it can be done.

Particularly interesting is chapter 4, which looks at the mapping the organizational landscape. it focuses on determining the scope of the KMS designed for the organization. Chapter 5 looks at framework, that is aligned with the ISO 30401 requirements. Chapter 6 looks at leadership, an essential component of driving adoption and change. Chapter 7 and 8 look at planning and development process, the two elements that “make or break” the change once the organizational design is being implemented.

The last chapter is dedicated to Continuous Improvement, the idea that knowledge management design essentially never finishes. Which is the main reason why it is important to study KMS. As an HR professional, and as a Manager, with the rate of transformation that is happening in the external environment, you need to constantly assess and adapt your organization over time.

To summarise, it is the perfect book for any manager or HR professional who needs to understand what KMS is. For sure important ahead of a change effort or a redesign, I do think it is relevant for any Manager also to learn how much all the elements of organizations are connected. Way too often we see the negative impacts of adding a layer to an organization, or changing a model, without the relevant considerations of all its ripple effects. We need to treat organizations as live organisms, and as such, we need to understand them thoroughly.

Information and knowledge are typically the foundational basis of any organization. All processes, be it customer management, hiring, or innovation, requires the organization to have solid knowledge management. As an Information Technology specialist and Communications expert, I have learnt a great depth of deal from this book that I believe my organization can use to gain a competitive edge. With the Covid-19 pandemic bringing the world to its knees and leaving numerous companies in the blink of bankruptcy, it is essential to strategize a comeback to help in adapting to the new environment. Such a comeback would be most effective if the organization has sound knowledge management frameworks and solutions at hand. Notably, this book serves both the needs of an individual and an organization, and I found its guides and tips to be highly applicable not only in the day-to-day running of an organization but also when making long-term decisions. Looking forward to sharing it with my coworkers.

A thoroughly updated book in this field of a comprehensive overview of knowledge management (KM), covering design foundations, the KM process, tools, and professions for 30401 KMS Standards. The ability to manage knowledge has become increasingly important in today's knowledge economy. Knowledge is considered a valuable commodity, embedded in products and in the tacit knowledge of highly mobile individual employees. Knowledge management represents a deliberate and systematic approach to cultivating and sharing an organization's knowledge base. This book and professional reference offers a comprehensive overview of the field. Drawing on ideas, tools, and techniques from such disciplines as sociology, cognitive science, organizational behavior, and information science, it describes KM design and practice at the individual, community, and organizational levels. Chapters cover such topics as tacit and explicit knowledge, theoretical modeling of KM, the KM cycle from knowledge capture to knowledge use, KM tools, KM assessment, and KM professionals. Highly Recommended!

Implementing a knowledge management system standard can be complex and dynamic, no matter how well planned and developed. Inevitably a degree of organizational inertia is focused on the current state rather than the new. Within an enterprise, personal and group involvement and interests process status and technology landscape can deflect the commitment needed to successfully implement such a system. Cumulative evidence from past research in knowledge management suggests that effective implementation of KM solution in any organization requires a robust designs and models for various critical elements of process, people and technology. Using the techniques provided in this book, readers should be able to implement design knowledge management system, to align objectives of the KM initiatives with their business goals.

Early in his book, Santhosh describes how the role of knowledge management system has changed. In the past, design knowledge management was a tactical activity that followed the serious work of engineering and technology development. Today, however, we see design knowledge becoming more disruptive and playing a strategic role in business.
The former way of doing design, with knowledge management working toward the end of the innovation process, stunted the potential for disruptive innovation and led to incremental improvements of existing products and systems. However, as Santhosh describes, the use of design knowledge to drive innovation enables organizations to reimagine products, services, and business models. This is highly recommended book for business corporations.

This book approaches design knowledge management (KM) from several perspectives: it spans artificial intelligence, information systems, and business. Comprehensive yet clearly and concisely written, "Design Knowledge Management System" is simultaneously strong in managerial, technical, and systemic aspects of KM, providing readers with the right combination of theory, technology, and solutions. Organized coherently into four sections, this book covers the principles, technologies, capture systems, sharing systems, and application systems of KM. An excellent handbook by Santhosh Shekar for business executives, especially chief information officers, IT directors, and chief knowledge officers.
