Wives mourn the death of their husbands. Sometimes they never get over it, destined to be alone for the rest of their lives. And no matter how hard they try, they can’t be happy, because the guilt is enough to kill them too.
When my husband dies in a freak boating accident, I’m barely able to function, let alone pick up the pieces of my shattered life. Yes, we had our problems, but I never wanted him to die. My friends tell me it’s time for me to move on and when I finally try to put the past behind me, it comes back to me, shattering everything I thought I knew about my past, my husband and my future.
Somebody is lying and will do anything to stop me from finding the truth. But I have to know. Did my husband really die in the waters of Broken Sound?
For a short novella, this was fine. Raymond was definitely creepy as shit. And I was genuinely surprised at the big reveal at the end. But a lot of it didn’t add up very cohesively and honestly I felt we needed more context on everything at the end.
Still worth a read, but one of the weaker installments from this series for sure.
Welcome to Liars Island… a stand-alone series of interconnected, novella length domestic thrillers set in the picture-perfect community of Liars Island. Here, nothing is quite as it seems. On this island, families and friendships are more than meets the eye … secrets, deceptions, and jealousies threaten to ruin everything these influential people have built. But it isn’t only the rich that live here … and power comes in all shapes and sizes. Everyone here is a liar … just how far would you go to get what you want?
Eighteen authors came together to write eighteen stand-alone short story’s. I read five out of the eighteen. You’d think eventually someone from another story would meet each other since these story’s are interconnected. This island has everything and the authors made good use of all it had to offer. I’m still waiting for one of the characters from one of the story’s to interact with each other. This anthology is a great way to introduce readers to new authors. Five out of the eighteen story’s were available for free so I took advantage and downloaded those five. Each cover design is stunning. Each story is sold separately I haven’t found an anthology with all eighteen story’s.
Becca and Dalton own the Bed and Breakfast on the island. They have a successful business and great friendships. Lately things between them has been lacking. She finds her husband spends too much of his time with his friends goofing off. They have keep hiring the handyman to fix things when he’s capable of doing it himself except he makes it worse when his friends are around. It seems all they do is drink. When they drink and break stuff her temper flares. Then they argue. Becca wants to get them back on track so she suggests a boat trip on the water at there favorite spot. After spending some time together they argue again. When Becca wakes a few hours later Dalton is missing. Thinking he pranked her she returns to dock the boat, but Dalton’s nowhere to be found. This short story packs a punch. What started as a domestic thriller turned murder mystery.
This fell a tad flat, much of it unbelievable. Becca is a wealthy business owner, yet when her husband goes missing after being alone on boat with her the media doesn’t say boo?! The media didn’t rip her apart? Nope, she just goes right on living with no issues to her business.
Then there’s Raymond who apparently is obsessed with Becca. Yet there’s only a tiny few flirtatious words before Becca’s husband goes missing and Raymond truly shows he’s obsessed. This needed more development beforehand. The author made a big deal of making Becca look angry and like she killed Dalton but I never believed she did. Double Jeopardy anyone?
I gave this 3 stars as I did believe Raymond did it. I was wrong. I didn’t see Tracy at all as guilty. She had one suspicious line when talking to Becca before Dalton goes missing. Then later hints of her pregnancy made me believe it was Dalton’s baby but Raymond was so creepy it I felt it just had to be him. For a novella this wasn’t bad, still worth reading.

This is another tense thriller on Liars Island, where a woman despairs of her husband’s constant botched jobs, then there’s an accident...
Throughout this story, nothing is completely sure. The characters are each well-defined – some good, some bad, some creepy. There are questions about Dalton’s death and we’re never quite sure of the truth.
I liked the fast pace and writing style – I prefer first-person narrative because it gives depth and insight into what is going on.
I don’t give spoilers so all I’ll say is – great read and recommended.
OMG! Definitely a 5/5, and then some. I don't think I've ever been so happy that a book was so short because I was so eager to get to the end to find out what the hell happened! Even though it was short, I swear I read it cover to cover in break neck speed finishing in just over half the time estimated by my Kindle. I'm happy to have now read two good ones in a row, how about 3?
A quick story centering on Becca's quest of find out who killed her husband Dalton. Was it two of his friends, her creepy stalker, did Dalton plan his disappearance, or did Becca kill him? Cracks in their relationship make her the prime suspect and a cast of suspicious characters mixed in invite you to solve the case.
Becca's husband died in a boat accident and she didn't know where he went. She has a successful BnB with her husband and a caretaker. I love the way the author tells the story and how each emotion is portrayed. Twists come and the caretaker is pregnant with the husband's baby and killed him to get the BnB once she pins the murder to Becca.
