129 books70 followersPremendra Mitra (Bangla: প্রেমেন্দ্র মিত্র) was a renowned Bengali poet, novelist, short story writer and film director. He was also an author of Bengali science fiction and thrillers.
His short stories were well-structured and innovative, and encompassed the diverse to the divergent in urban Indian society. The themes of poverty, degradation, caste, the intermittent conflict between religion and rationality and themes of the rural-urban divide are a thematically occurring refrain in much of his work. He experimented with the stylistic nuances of Bengali prose and tried to offer alternative linguistic parameters to the high-class elite prosaic Bengali language. It was basically an effort to make the Bengali literature free from softness, excessive romance and use of old style of writing which were prevalent in older writings.

প্লট-ভাবিয়ে হিসেবে যে প্রেমেন মিত্তির কতটা দূরদর্শী ছিলেন, তা এতদিন পরেও বুঝতে কোনও অসুবিধে হয় না। বিশ্বময় যখন জ্বালানি-সংকট চলছে, তখন "তেল দেবেন ঘনাদা" আশ্বাসটি আশার আলো দেখায় বইকি।
এতশত বই পড়ার ক্ষেত্রে সবসময়ই কিশোর সাহিত্য আর বয়স্ক সাহিত্যের মধ্যেকার পার্থক্য নিয়ে পাঠক হিসেবে ভাবিত হয়েছি। একটা একেবারেই খেলনা-সুলভ, অন্যটি আদিরসের রসিক। আচ্ছা, এমনকিছু কি সম্ভব নয়, যাতে কল্পনার মণি এবং মস্তিষ্কপুষ্টির মাণিক্য একসঙ্গে থাকবে? কিশোর ও বয়স্ক ঘরানার মাঝামাঝি একটা সুইট স্পট?
-- এতদিনে এসে সেই প্রশ্নের উত্তর পেলাম :
দাস, ঘনশ্যাম দাস। ঘনাদা!

গপ্পোবাজ মানুষের সংখ্যা এখন আর আগের মতো নেই। ইন্টারনেটের সৌজন্যে যেকোনো গল্পের সত্যমিথ্যে মুহূর্তে যাচাই হয়ে যায়। আবার গপ্পো শোনার মতো ধৈর্য্যশীল শ্রোতাও কমে গেছে। ঘনাদা গপ্পোবাজির শীর্ষস্থানীয় লোক। তাঁর অপার মহিমার কথা পাঠ করলেও পুন্য হয়। অন্ততঃ ঘনাদা নিজেই সেরকম ভাবেন, একথা হলফ করে বলা যায়।।

টেনিদার গল্প শুনে হাবুল যখন বিড়বিড় করে গুল, তখন ঘনাদা এসে বলেন হোল্ড মাই বিয়ার...!
টেনিদা সম্ভবত ঘনাদাকে নমস্য বলেও ছিলেন। গুল তো গুল, একেবারে ব্ল্যাক হোলে পৌছে গেছে!
তবে ভালো লাগাটা হলো প্রেমেন্দ্র মিত্র গুলের ভেতরও অনেক কিছু বলেন।
আর তেল দেবেন ঘনাদা ১৬০ পৃষ্ঠার না, ৮০ পৃষ্ঠার।
টেনিদা সম্ভবত ঘনাদাকে নমস্য বলেও ছিলেন। গুল তো গুল, একেবারে ব্ল্যাক হোলে পৌছে গেছে!
তবে ভালো লাগাটা হলো প্রেমেন্দ্র মিত্র গুলের ভেতরও অনেক কিছু বলেন।
আর তেল দেবেন ঘনাদা ১৬০ পৃষ্ঠার না, ৮০ পৃষ্ঠার।
