Kenzie Davis is about to discover if a fake date can evolve into something more in this fun and flirty debut romantic comedy. Agreeing to go to her ex-husband’s wedding with a guy she's never met is something Kenzie would never have imagined she’d do. After all, ever since her divorce, she’s avoided weddings (and remembering her dates' names) altogether. But when her boss offers her a career-altering opportunity that will take her to Paris, she can’t seem to find a way out of the awkward invitation, and she’s forced to step out of her comfort zone and face her past mistakes. In addition to facing her ex-husband at his wedding, she must work with an ambitious self-absorbed marketing executive if she’s going to close the deal for NYSharp Magazine. The meetings go hilariously awry and the mismatched duo finds they've blown the deal and possibly lost their jobs in the process. With nothing left to lose, Kenzie arrives at the wedding only to find herself face to face with her past and the lie she’s been hiding. But when a chance at real love arises, Kenzie will have to decide once and for all whether to fall back into her past mistakes or take a chance and follow her heart. Can Kenzie Davis believe in herself enough to take a chance, or will her fear of being hurt find her alone in Paris? The Plus One, was such a fun book to read. I just dove right into this perfectly written, genuinely hilarious romantic novel. It will make you literally laugh out loud and lift your spirits above and beyond. And what better time to cozy up with a hilarious, feel good book than right now.
Currently, the pandemic gives us many days that are so filled with negatively that it’s great to be able to pick up a book, and escape, but more importantly giving yourself permission to laugh again is key.
The author also gives the reader an opportunity to realize that life can go on if you are open to it, that you can find love if you are willing to open that door, and that misconceptions are sometimes just that. Everything is simply not black and white. Sometimes, people come into our lives for the sole purpose of teaching us something about ourselves so we can move forward.
A superb mixture of wit and imagination went into this brilliantly layered book. Its quirky moments gives it an added comedic effect and the characters were perfectly placed with a purpose. This book will restore your faith in love and friendship, life can come full circle under the right circumstances.
2-1/2 stars Did not care for this one. I found the characters unsympathetic, the drama over-the-top, the resolution flat. The heroine cries - a LOT - yet never seems to have problems finding designer clothes to wear, fashion guardian angels to come to her rescue, or any concerns about money, apparently. So - why the tears? The hero was ... dull. The ex-husband drama - while unique - turned out to be kind of an empty suit. The setting and locales were well-described and I could picture them easily.
The first half of this book was good and had a lot of promise, then our mc Kenzie arrived in Paris.... from here the story should have soared but instead the plot went off the rails. The story got messy and juvenile and completely unrealistic. I think my 14 year old self would have maybe enjoyed this (emphasis on maybe), but adult me just couldn't get on board.
I personally thought this was a cute book, sorta like a Hallmark movie but I appreciated that it had maybe 2 swear words, no graphic sex, was just a cute story to read after a long day of work.
Drama, adventure and Romance. This novel had it in spades.
Even though I've traveled back-and-forth to Paris for over 40 years as family is there - I was delighted to learn about some of the hidden Paris locations I wasn't aware of - lots of fun to learn about one hidden spot in particular that I won't mention so readers can discover it themselves. :)
