She’s loved him since before he changed her, but he won’t even admit he remembers her.
Charlie wasn’t always a dragon, but she was always trouble. Getting turned as a teen only intensified her struggle against authority. Her parents never knew what to do with her. Neither did the dragon clan they passed her off to when she became too much for them to handle. Charlie was never meant to be a submissive, but for years she’s been ordered around, insulted, and shamed until she barely recognizes herself. In a last bid to recover some dignity, she seeks out the man she’s almost sure is her fated mate, the dragon shifter who changed her.
Now, if only he would recognize her the way her heart recognizes him.
Of course, Alec recognizes Charlie. He would know her anywhere. His soul calls to hers. He wishes she hadn’t shown up on the clan’s old stomping ground, though. It isn’t safe in the old cabins near the lake. Alec’s best friend Zane has been caught in the lake for so long that he’s become a monster. Alec feels guilty enough about that mistake. He refuses to let Zane hurt Charlie. So, he must pretend he doesn’t know Charlie. That way, she’ll go far away from the lake, and Zane won’t be able to hurt her. She’s in danger every moment she stays.
Unfortunately, Charlie’s clan may be every bit as unsafe for Charlie as the lake. Whether she stays or she goes, Alec could lose her—permanently.
Alec is the third installment of Emilia Hartley’s steamy Keepers of the Lake series. A great story on its own, this book is even better when paired with the others. And, like all Emilia’s books, it has a strong female lead, a hot shifter guy, and a satisfying HEA.
Reading wasn't always Emilia's passion, but over the years she developed an irreplaceable love for books. She writes about large, protective alpha males and their strong, sexy female mates. If you enjoy steamy shifters and fated mates, then you'll LOVE Emilia's books!
Alec is a fixer and that is how he lives his life. If he sees a problem he tries to fix it whether or not he was asked for assistance,. What he fails to understand is that not all problems are his to fix.
For Charlie her problems started over ten years ago at the lake and nobody ever asked her what she wanted to do but instead she was order around and moved away.
Coming back to the lake will bring a new set of problems but it will answer a few to.

Charlie has come back to the Lake, looking for Alec - and he seems not to remember her. Alec doesnt believe what the other members of his clan are telling him - until he sees the images of Zane himself, and hears his voice. He wants Charlie as his mate - but it's too dangerous for her, so he tries to get her to leave. The head of her clan wants her - and his intentions are certainly not honourable - will Zane destroy them? Will Norman's minions steal her away? Loving these stories!

This is the third book in the series and focuses on Alec, who we haven’t heard about, and his mate Charlotte who goes by Charlie. Alec has returned at the request of Jude to help find a way to get Zane out of the watery prison he’s been trapped in for 10 years. At the same time, Charlie has made the trip across the country to the old dragon clan land by the lake. She’s hoping to find a lead to start tracing her childhood friend Alec who she’s always been in love with and who gave her, her dragon. She parked a short way away from the lake and walked to the lakeside cabins where she walked straight into Alec!
Alec recognised Charlie as soon as he saw her but after discovering that his best friend Zane really was trapped at the bottom of the lake, he pretends not to know Charlie. He reasons that if he doesn’t let on that she is important to him, she will be safe from Zane. Little did he know that Zane already knew she was there and promised never to hurt her. Knowing that she played no part in his capture in the watery prison, he decided that her childhood friendship with him meant she was safe from his quest for vengeance.
Like the other books, there is angst between Alec and Charlie with both of them pretending that they didn’t recognise the other. Fortunately, their angst isn’t as bad as it’s been in previous books even though there would be good reason since Charlie’s alpha wants her to return to her clan within a few days and she knows that if she returns, her life will be empty, miserable and somewhat abusive. In fact, he’s so determined that she returns quickly, he sends one of his minions to get her.
Whilst there are not graphic writings of abuse, this book might still be a trigger for anyone who has been in a coercive and controlling relationship so readers should bear that in mind.
On the whole, this has been the best of the three books I’ve read so far. As I’ve said before, you really do need to read the books in order to get the full understanding of where the story in going. We’ve already met Asher even though he hasn’t met his mate yet but it will be interesting to meet the rest of the clan and they finally reunite to try and rescue Zane.
Alec and Charlie’s story is the third book in this series, and although a slow burn series , it’s packed with plenty of action (and not all under the sheets 😉)
Charlie is certain Alec is her fated mate! He has to be, right? He changed her, so he must have recognised her as his forever mate. But when her family realised what she would become, they moved away hoping to keep Charlie and Alec apart. But Charlie needs Alec’s help, she needs to claim her abs keep her from being taken back to a clan that sees her just as property, and not a person! And when she sees him, it’s like coming home, she’s missed this lake, but more importantly, she’s missed this man....
Alec is racked with guilt! His best friend/brother is trapped in the lake by the witch they thought was their friend. He never knew, but that didn’t stop him from leaving Zane to his fate all alone! But he’s here now, and he will help him.
But Zane doesn’t want help! He wants a mate to help him escape! So far the mates that have mated with his friends are safe, but they need to keep vigilant, Zane is getting ready for another strike......
Alec doesn’t want Charlie near the lake, it’s dangerous, she could be a potential mate for Zane, so she’s in danger. But it’s more like he’s scared to admit his feelings for Charlie. She needs to leave, so if faking that he ever knew her gets her to leave, then that’s what he’s going to do! His dragon isn’t happy, but if they can help Zane, then maybe he could go and find Charlie when it’s all done?!
The storyline gets gets better, more layers are being added, it’s great to see the interaction between the dragons. And I’m feeling sorry for Zane trapped under the water (no wonder he went mad!!) My only issue is the amount of time wasted on the angst! It just draws the story out, and in some cases, I put the book down and walk away. I do finish it, it’s just too good not to, but that’s my gripe.
So can Alec save both his best friend and the woman who’s suppose to be his? Or will Zane exact his revenge and take Charlie away from him? Or will her clan leader arrive and take her back to her old, submissive life?
Alec came back to the lake to be with his clanmates again for so many years. He was told that the witch had imprisoned their friend, Zane instead of Alistair. Then, he saw the woman whom he loved heading towards the cabins and it was as if his breath was suddenly tightened for the danger that lurks toward the lake.
I loved Charlotte and the way she disabled her car. Ingenious! Alec has been back with three of his best friends, but his best and favorite friend, Charlotte left fifteen years ago after Alex changed her into a dragon shifter. He never knew where her parents took her, and when he became an adult he looked for her to no avail. Now, when he and his other friends and their mates are all in danger from the monster in the lake, Charlotte is back and he has to act like he doesn’t know or remember her, even if he suspects she’s his mate. Because he can’t put her in danger. Little does he know that Charlotte is running from someone more dangerous than a lake monster. She’s running from a monster who is her clan leader. A cruel clan leader who wants to turn her from being just a servant in the clan, to a vacuous soul destroyed concubine. Alex is her only hope. If he doesn’t claim her as his mate she will be forced to return to the fate her clan leader has waiting for her. It seems hopeless. Alec comes back to fix the problems of his clan only to discover that he cannot control the most important thing in his world, Charlotte. Years ago Alec made her a dragon only to have her parents whisk her away because they didn't know how to handle her. Now she is back looking for what she lost, Alec; only to find that he either doesn't or won't recognize her. Here are two stubborn souls who need each other and lose time by not communicating. When the threat in the lake is overshadowed by the threat to Charlie's safety Alec will fight to 'fix' things. Hartley's characters show all their vulnerabilities and are relatable even in the bizarre world of the paranormal. The action is spot on to the plot which is the usual mix of twists and misunderstandings. Another story to keep the reader engaged and entertained. This series has had me on edge since I read the first book. The writing is spectacular and the world that Emilia created is different and intriguing in and of itself. Charlie and Alec have overcome obstacles that most would not even consider being hurdles but Alec has known she is his. With the world against them and something bigger than can tackle is coming their way it is up to Alec and Charlie to fight for what they want and what they need Each other! Yes you can read these stories as standalones, I implore you to read this series in order to get the FULL effect of what Miss Hartley is trying to convey. These characters are spectacular and will engage the reader with so much it is almost torture to let them go! One of the best series I have read and will take you to places only your imagination can dream up!

ALEC is the third installment in this six book series, Keepers of the Lake, by Emilia Hartley. This talented author brings us characters that are headstrong, compassionate, funny, sad and determined.
Alec left ten years ago when his clan was destroyed by their alpha. Now the new alpha has requested his return. He's not happy about returning but he will listen to their insane story about a monster in the lake. then leave again.
Charlie is trying to flee her domineering alpha. She's fled to her childhood home hoping to find acceptance and love. Even though Zane promised not to to hurt her, she is shocked when he turns on her.Just as you think Charlie is finding peace and comfort, more issues and secrets surface.
I can't wait to see where things go next. Like all Emilia’s books, it has a strong female lead, a hot shifter male, and a satisfying HEA.

Loved this book. Alec is a fix it man be it cars, building, relationships what ever. Although he can't seem to fix his own relationship, yet. He made Charlie a dragon shifter on purpose, he has felt guilty about it for fifteen years. He cannot talk about his feelings to anyone, he cannot tell Charlie how he feels about her. Charlie, Charlene, has been in love with Alec since she was a child. She was glad Alec turned her. Her parents moved her away to the west coast when they couldn't handle a teenage dragon shifter and gave her over to an immortal dragon to control her. She has come back to her home and lake hoping to find Alec, her mate, but Alec doesn't seem to recognize her. Jude, the Alpha, of the clan has said Charlie could stay there and join them. Charlie wants to stay, but not if Alec won't tell her how he feels. She is the only one Zane, the lake monster, will not hurt and will listen to. Can Charlie get Alec to open up to her and she can help the clan help Zane?
Charlie shows up at the lake and her care breaks down. She wants to find Alec and see if he remembers her and see if they belong like she thinks they do. When Alec sees Charlie he pretends like he doesn't know her because he wants her to leave quickly because of what they are facing with Zane. However her car isn't easily fixed so Charlie ends up staying longer and she learns about what is going on in the lake and wants to help. Alec has no choice but to admit he remembers her especially when her clan sends people to force her back to them. Will he let her go back or fight for her? Can they figure out anything more to save Zane from the lake?
This is a great series that each book draws you into it even more. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

This is the third book in the series and I have loved it as much as the others. The characters are wonderful and while reading I was willing for Alec and Charlie to see each other properly. You don't get that without it being a great story. Charlie is running from a hundred bad decisions but with a shining conviction that she is meant to be with her one true mate Alec. Alec is weighed down by guilt, the past and fear. He tries to fool himself that he doesn't love her, doesn't deserve her but in his heart, his dragon is dying for her. The small clan continues to welcome back the boys, now men, who were pulled apart by what happened all those years ago. Healing and finding their mates while trying to save their friend incarcerated in his watery cell. I cannot wait for the next one.

Alec, a dragon shifter, has been away from the lake and his brothers for 10 years. He arrives at the lake hoping for happy times but finds that Zane is in the lake prison and not Alistair as thought. Charlotte(Charlie) was changed by Alec into a dragon shifter when they were younger. She has come back to the lake not knowing what has transpired 10 years ago. Charlie needs Alec to claim her as his mate to escape Norman and his clan of dragon shifters who have been abusive. Alec doesn't want Charlie around the lake and pretends he doesn't know her. I love this authors writing and how she introduces the next character and their stories. I am excited to read how she will have all the characters come together in hopefully a happy ending. This is book #3 of the "Keepers of the Lake" series. Enjoy!
Another one of the original dragon shifter clan shows up at the lakeside cabins. Alec has come to convince his friends that they are wrong and it is not their friend Zane trapped at the bottom of the lake instead of their evil alpha Alistair. But then he sees his friend's face in the water and hears Zane's voice in his head. Ok, now he is convinced. Just when he thought things couldn't possibly get worse - she shows up. Charlie. The girl he changed into a dragon all those years ago. The girl his dragon insists is his mate. He has to get her car fixed and convince her to leave before Zane gets his hands on her. So, he pretends not to know who she was...
Charlie has come back to the lake, after all these years, to find Alec. She knows he is her mate and she needs the mating bite to show her alpha so he won't force her to go back to her clan where he treats her like a servant. She is sure the alpha is just biding his time before bringing her to his bed. So why is Alec acting like he doesn't know who she is? That can't be right. She refuses to tell him and make a fool of herself. He needs to claim her before Norman makes her go back to the clan where her parents dumped her when she was changed. She has to believe it's going to work out. She knows this is where she belongs.
I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
Vulnerable, Charlie needed help and her heart knew where she could find it, so she went for it. Alec had felt pushed aside by his friends and now that they needed him, for something that he wasn't sure to believe, much less how to deal with it, he had found himself back with Charlotte and in a dangerous situation. Enmeshed in a game of hiding feelings and emotions, with Alec refusing to accept his fate and Charlie resisting losing her chance, danger fell over them. The scale seemed to tip to one side. But, surprises awaited for everyone! Action, suspense, violence, support, romance and passion. I'm looking forward to Zane's story! Voluntarily reviewed this copy that I received free from Booksprout and I liked.
This picks up right where we left off. I mean, like, mid argument. It was a great opening! Alec isn't convinced their friend is locked in the lake. However, the proof is right in front of him. Zane to is a danger to them all. When Charlotte returns after 15 years, he will do anything to get her to leave. Even if that means breaking her heart. Charlie has been looking for a place that feels like home. She is drawn to to the lake. The place she grew up. But it's really Alec. Her best friend and her hearts desire. She doesn't have long, and he is being stubborn. When her Clan threatens to take her home, Alec changes his tune. Now, he will do anything to keep her. Another great addition to the series.

Charlotte has escaped to the lake as her clan leader is obnoxious, she's hiding in the only place she's been happy. Years ago she was friends with Alec and Zane, Alec turned her into a dragon, which she's really happy about. Things seem to have changed in the fifteen years she's been away. The lake is different and Zane is missing. She still has feelings for Alec though, but he doesn't even seem to recognise her. He does but because of the issues with the lake he wants her gone for her safety, but she needs him to claim her so that she can be released from her clan.
Can they sort themselves out and communicate better? A great read in the series from Emilia I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Alec, "Mister Fix-it", comes back to the Lake to help resolve Zane's situation; instead, he comes face to face with Charlotte, his past human love which he turned into a dragon before they are separated. Charlotte came back to the Lake wanting to rekindle her lovestory with Alec... or is he her mate?? One thing she knows for sure, is that she doesn't want to go back to her clan; Alec fakes not recognizing her, thinking he's protecting her from danger.
Very good text, full of tangled emotions, unresolved feelings and drama. Past characters make appearances and support Alec and Charlotte's story well. A little steamy with a HEA.

Alec changed Charlotte (Charlie) into a dragon. He regretted it especially when her family sent her away. But eventually Charlie comes back to find Alec, who she believes is her fated mate. She wants to see if he remembers her. But Alec is worried for Charlie's safety due to the situation with Zane. Yes, he remembers her, his soul remembers her, she is his mate. But he feels he must pretend otherwise in order to make her leave. It's for the safety of his mate. But, you should never deliberately try to get rid of your mate. That could sometimes make things worse. If I were just now coming across this series, I'd start at book one, Cole. I mean why take a taste of your of your favorite dessert when you can have a full serving? I highly recommend this book and this author.
This story was quite enjoyable. At first I was confused by Alec as he was not really mentioned before his story was told here. I wanted to smack him upside the head a couple times as well as Charlie. Their story is old and new, everlasting. The romance was worth the wait. There were a couple surprises at the lake to keep us on our toes. A little angst, adventure, action, romance and fun. As usual this story was well developed and you get to know the characters pretty well. There is also a little teaser for an upcoming story! I will continue to read and I'm sure enjoy this series, as will you if you give it a try.

Who is Charlotte? What does Alec not believe? Is Charlotte known to the Lake Dragons? If so, how? What happens when Alec brings her blueberry pancakes one morning? Who is Norman? Why does Charlotte dread him and his phone calls or texts? Why does Asher take off one day? What happens when he comes back? What does Charlie do when Zane makes an appearance? Who is Vincent? What happens when he shows up? I loved Charlie in that moment! What happens when Alec goes to swim down in the lake? Things really take a turn when Alec takes Charlie to town for dinner! Read and see what happens in this 3rd book of the series!
RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin' With M. Brennan.
The dragon clan are joined by another one of the original group - Alec. He was the closest friend of Zane and they shared many adventures together. Charlie was human but was turned by Alec 15 years previously. They have been apart all that time and her life is now under the control of an overbearing Dragon leader. She takes some time out from her clan to find Alec hoping he will immediately recognise and claim her fulfilling all her dreams and offering her a new future. Lots of tension, drama, action , soul searching, friendship and love.

Charlie showed back up to the lake after 15 years and in all that time she missed Alec. Charlie hated what shell of a person she is since being with her new clan all Norman could do is rip away her self esteem. When Charlie saw Alec she knew she was home. But Alec didn't acknowledge her by name and so Charlie just waited. Charlie was hoping Alec would come to his senses before Norman would send men to retrieve her. Zane made an appearance and welcomed her back with wide arms and claimed he would not hurt her. Two times Zane helped Charlie and after the second time Alec gave her the mark of mating.
Alec has come home to help his best friend even though he is not sure he believes what the others have told him. He is shocked when the woman Charlie comes back, he has wanted her since she was a teen and now she is a woman and he doesn't want her around after 15years she is now on the run from who knows what. A good storyline and the characters are very interesting. Alec acts silly in the face of the situation even though he thinks he is doing the right thing. Charlie allows Alec to act out as she does Zane before she confronts them. Drama, romance, action, and suspense. Another wonderful book in the Keepers of the Lake series. Alex is another soul returning home after many years and not wanting to be there. No what everyone else is telling him. Charlie has also been gone. But her reasons for leaving were not her own. Charlie has been looking for home ever since she was dragged away. Alec is that home, he just needs to remember. I love these characters, previous couples are well supported and the family detail gives the story great depth and warmth. I was engrossed by the plot and can't wait for more. I definitely recommend this book and series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Alec, book 3 in The Keepers Of The Lake Book Series is a steamy standalone with a sexy, rugged and irresistible alpha male. This well written book with interesting characters that have great chemistry. This story has a steamy romance with a bruised, but strong, shifter female lead and a super-hot male shifter who has to make a choice. These characters are very well written with issues which they resolve and the characters evolve throughout the story. I cannot wait for other books by this Author. A must read

Another epic story from Emilia. I swear this series keeps getting better and better. My heart was just aching for Charlie and what she has been and is going through. Alec made her, they were fated to be together but her parents didn't know how to deal with her so they took her away. Now she is back looking for the one she is supposed to be with whilst also wanting an out from her old life. Alec has extreemly strong opinions about her leaving due to Zane, though he can't deny the pull he will resist it in his missguided atempt to protect her.
I can't wait to find out how Alec is going to 'fix' things and to learn of Zane's story.
When she left, she knew she would find a way back to where her dragon was comfortable someday. He carries the guilt of what happen and is now determined to keep her safe. Sometimes the safest route is right in front of you. Will he allow himself to fall again? Will she be able to escape her clan?
I was excited to see another book in this series and it did not disappoint. I loved seeing her slowly letting go of the chains that held her back and growing her backbone again. I didn't blame him for being scared, but loved when he finally gave in and allowed himself to admit he couldn't let her go. Loved it!

When Charlotte returns to find her mate and he pretends not to know her, her plans to mate and escape her oppressive dragon clan feel out of reach. How can she convince him to accept her without making him feel obliged to protect her, when her heart tells her she belongs to him. Alec is trying to protect Charlotte from the dragon trapped in the lake. But will he push her away and into more danger. How can he protect everyone and get the love of his life into his arms as well. Honestly wanted to smack these two and make them talk about their feelings. Loved seeing the family at the lake grow with these two strong dragons. I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Another good story by Emeilia. The Keepers of the Lake series is turning out to be as wonderful as her other books. Alec comes back to his home unable to believe that Zane is the one in the lake and not Alistair. Then someone from his past comes back and he tries to be noble and run her off so she is not hurt by Zane who is rightfully angry. Charlie is about the only one he does not want to hurt. They finally get it together and I can’t wait to see who is next and what will happen.
