A lot of things are going down at Purgatory Prep. Road to Redemption is the first book in the series and was amazeballs, I have never laughed so hard. It was full of laughter, magic, steam, and mystery and I loved it.
The story mainly follows Nerezza aka Rez and is told from her point of view along with a slew of other characters that are in her group, the bestie, the guys she's interested in, and Lynx her shape-shifting familiar who due to the fact they can communicate is her support system. Rez is biracial and had to deal with a lot of bullying growing up and she's had some mental health issues but all that she's been through has made Rez one tough cookie who uses sarcasm and wit to deal with her emotional issues. I will admit the banter is good and Rez is really quick with excellent comebacks.
As for the others, Moni is Rez's new fainting bestie, who's supportable and has a coffee addiction. Lynx is hilarious and would do anything for Rez, been with her forever, makes her laugh, listens to her sorrows, and is generally so devoted to her and I love him for it. The guys in her life are something else. Levi is supper composed and supportive, Zeke is so adorable and welcoming, JP is a fashion and decor guru who has a special place for Rez in his heart, and Ryker is her banter buddy. Seriously the banter in this book is fantastic and I love the group chats they have. This is just the beginning stage of the relationships so I can't wait to see them develop more.
I was completely surprised by the storyline, I didn't see this plot coming but I'm loving the new twist that Keller has put on the subject. Not to mention the surprising variety of supernaturals and the magic was great. Not to mention the commentary both to readers and inside Rez's head was great. The story has enough uniqueness that I'm not quite sure where the story is headed but one thing is for sure, the council is shady, the guys are hot, and Purgatory is not ready for all that is Rez.
Road to Redemption was nothing but laugh-out-loud chaos that was filled with steam, drama, magic, and mystery. I laughed so hard, and thoroughly enjoyed this book even with the massive cliffhanger that made my heartbreak. I'm excitedly looking forward to the next book in the series, Keller has done a fantastic job with her first book.
