USA Today Bestselling Author Demelza Carlton has always loved the ocean, but on her first snorkelling trip she found she was afraid of fish. She has since swum with sea lions, sharks and sea cucumbers and stood on spray-drenched cliffs over a seething sea as a seven-metre cyclonic swell surged in, shattering a shipwreck below. Sensationalist spin? No - Demelza tends to take a camera with her so she can capture and share the moment later; shipwrecks, sharks and all. Demelza now lives in Perth, Western Australia, the shark attack capital of the world. The Ocean's Gift series was her first foray into fiction, followed by the Nightmares trilogy. She swears the Mel Goes to Hell series ambushed her on a crowded train and wouldn't leave her alone.
A good story overall. The reuniting of Maria and William was enticing. Her introduction to Anne was mildly distressing. About a third of the way through, Maria's self-doubt detracted me so much that I took a long break before returning to finish the story. The threat from Maria's mother, which carries over from the first and second books, was seemingly continuous throughout the story. While this story has a satisfying end, there are ominous undertones.
William and Maria are finally together...And we finally get to meet some other people on Christmas Island and others who have been mentioned in the past....But as Maria fears her mother, will she be able to live with William land bound forever? Well, we have to see in the next book...cannot wait
This story doesn’t make sense, because why would a creature as powerful as a mermaid want to be the best wife and a submissive woman? I thought the first book was very good, which is why I bought the series, but this third book honestly seems disappointing to me. The strong character that María used to be—there isn’t even a trace of her anymore.
