At just twelve years of age, Kathy met Kris, age fifteen, and it was love at first sight. Before her lay the journey of engagement and marriage to a man who would become an influential leader at Bethel Church; raising children while being part of one of the most influential Spirit-filled networks on the globe; and her own involvement in leadership--sparking a movement with her husband that has impacted much of the world. In this unfiltered, messy, and exciting narrative, Bethel Church matriarch Kathy Vallotton traces her life with Kris as she recounts their early married life, his heart-wrenching nervous breakdown, troubling financial setbacks, the jarring experience of living with a prophet, learning to develop a healthy kingdom culture at home--and how she grew to trust God in the midst of it all.
Kathy Vallotton is the wife of Pastor and author Kris Vallotton. This is her first book. In it, she shares how she met and married Kris. It details the lives they built together as they trusted and followed God’s leading.
I was immediately struck by how transparent Kathy was with her insecurities. She is a person just like you and me, having moments of great faith along with moments of doubt. You can read about Kris and Kathy’s leaps of faith in business, adventures in following God’s voice and their ups and downs in ministry as well as experiences of fear, doubt and anxiety. God loves to respond in miraculous ways when we believe what He tells us. She recounts specific examples of God’s miracles in their lives.
What impressed me most in reading this book was the mutual respect Kathy and her husband have for one another. They have a mature trust in each other and in the way God speaks to them differently. While Kathy says she and Kris have totally different personalities and giftings, “Trust is the train track of relationships, and communications is the train.“ This connectivity and trust between them is exemplified throughout the book and they are a wonderful example to other married couples.
“I want to encourage you that no matter what you have experienced in God already, there is more! He has so many encounters just waiting for you. God’s Spirit on your life might look different than it does on other people’s lives, just as it looks very different between Kris and me. But the way you encounter God will be just what you need in order to grow in Him.”
At the end of the book, Kathy shares about the idea of leaving a legacy for our children, grand children and great grandchildren. “The most important part of a legacy has almost nothing to do with money. Moses put it this way: “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever” (Deuteronomy 29:29). So much of wealth in the Spirit is inherited. Think of it as “AirDropping” what you yourself have won in God to your children spirit-to-spirit. This principle is all over the Bible.” Kathy goes on to recount several specific Biblical examples. I really appreciated this chapter of the book. She retells some amazing examples of God’s promises and blessings through the lineage of different Bible characters.
In summary, I enjoyed this book and the stories Kathy shared. I was expecting their family to be specially gifted by God, but surprisingly came away with the thought that they are an average family who is just learning listen to God and trust Him as they go. Her book is highly relatable.
I received an ARC copy from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is the story of Kathy and Kris who became Christians decades ago, and how they have followed Christ since then. Read how God blessed them even in circumstances that didn't seem to lend themselves to success. They also share how God does not always give the answer wanted--which was well learned when Kris first wanted to go into the ministry.
They have had some harrowing situations. For instance, there was the time an unknown man repeatedly tried to run them off the road while they were driving a van full of church youth. Another time, a company closed owing them thousands of dollars that they had intended to retire on.
The two have been married since 1975, but their love story began even earlier, when they met each other at a very young age. Over the years, they have endured both very good times, and bad. But they always knew that God was with them and tried to trust and rely on Him in all situations.
Today they have four children, eight grandchildren and a marriage that has continued to be filled with love. In 2013, Kris wrote this on their 38th anniversary:
“Kathy, thank you for loving me all these years and standing beside me in hell and sitting with me in heavenly places.”
Recently, Kathy has learned that she is facing a serious health crisis. Despite that, the couple continues to look to Christ to take care of them and follow His leading.
Enjoy their life story as you read this 5-star book. I recommend it to those who like true stories or hearing of lives that have been dedicated to Christ.

This book is an autobiography written in the present time with Kathy Vallotton. She recounts her life in chronological order, gives heart warming stories about her family and children and shares life lessons she has learned along the way. All of the quotes that I would normally highlight are listed at the back of the book which is nicely organized. As a reader, I can tell this was her first book, some of the thoughts are scattered but she did a good job overall. Her heart shines through in the pages and it encouraged my walk with the Lord.
I was given a free copy of the book in exchange for my review.
I'm reading this as a single, 46-year-old woman without children. I've spent the past several years investing in my mom who just passed away. As I read Kathy's story, advice, and take-home summary, I'm encouraged to live a life that continues to invest in others, to seek God's vision of me and for me. I am awakening to the reality that when one chapter of life ends, God will build on it and already has the next chapter planned. Transition is no surprise to Him, and trusting Him, not fearing the future, is the Way.
You could feel & sense every word Kathy wrote from the first word to the last. Such hope stirred in me while reading her journey. Thankful Kathy took the time to go back in time, wrote her truth, and was willing to release it into the world. Such a beautiful walk she took me on. Enjoyed this book from start to finish.
Kathy Vallotton reveals her heart as she shares precious stories about her life. The stories are funny and profound each with a moral of the story. This is a good read.

I read this on a plane ride. Great stories. I am familiar with the Vallatton's stories. It is inspiring to see a regular family that has been used to transform so many lives.
