My mother gave this to me. I'm not sure what that means. I probably needed it.

This was the only book small enough on my friends' very tempting bookshelves to fit in while actually doing tourism around New York over a long weekend. But, I did learn a thing or two! Like... I've technically been eating soup 'backwards' my whole life. Overall, I like the message that etiquette isn't about being rigid about their being a right way to do things that must be militantly drilled and criticised (well, at least not openly!) but rather, if you notice someone has taken your bread plate on your left, there's no need to make a to-do about it and point out the mistake, just use your dinner plate! I suppose although it's an introduction to a social code that allows those to judge those who don't have it (and I really didn't grow up in that kind of environment), a lot about life is what you bring to the table. I appreciate the idea that being educated is about being gracious with those you encounter. Something to aspire to no matter where you are starting out from... even the top.

In preparation for teaching my grandchildren about etiquette at our upcoming family reunion, I read this little book. It was most informative and helpful. The dos and don’ts lists will be most helpful in my teaching. Having good manners is not about strict rules, but about helping yourself and others feel comfortable. Mannerly people can represent their families, their church, and their business in a positive way. I have some fun teaching ideas and hope I can do an adequate job.

A great little tiny book that holds everything you may not remember when dining out; fabulous to keep in your bag or pocket for an emergency dining situation, or to freshen up just before dinner.
