The Male Mind is Nothing Like You Imagine it to be
Men use as many as 13,000 fewer words in any given day than women. This means that gestures, such as nodding the head are a great deal more significant to a man. His nod needs to mean something, and to him, it means he agrees with you.
Let's use listening as an example. How Do Guys Listen?
When a man is listening, he is focused on a particular problem that needs to be solved. He assumes you need something fixed. Every word you say is running through a ‘man filter’ that weeds out everything but ‘what can I do about this’?
He lacks patience to hear your entire story. He’s looking for the parts of the conversation that pertain to his role. Once he’s figured that out, he is likely to jump in with a solution.
Women, on the other hand, don’t necessarily talk to have a problem solved. The conversation alone can be all that’s necessary in a given situation. The fact that a man is listening may be enough for her and she has no need of an active solution to any problem. She needs to feel heard, which, in turn, makes her feel loved. Unfortunately, men don’t often get this.
Bridge the Gap If you want someone to listen to you go on in detail about something, one of your female friends is going to be your best bet, but if you have a problem that needs to be solved, your man is all ears. This book was ok but I mostly read it out of curiosity and because I enjoy the subject. I enjoy understanding what makes men and women tick and why we are often at odds. Unfortunately, this book is for someone who really has not explored this subject much already. It felt like basic advice that would be best for someone young and not having dated much or is not super self-aware. I admit when I was single and picking all the wrong men (Full disclosure this book is from a very heteronormative perspective, and in my opinion actually subscribes to some dated - no pun intended - principles that I think are not as universal as the author proclaims.) If anyone is old enough to have read The Rules, or Steve Harvey's book/ show, this author repackages some of that. I agree that some basic psychology stuff never changes, but I think a lot of this information is out there already. On a personal note, I did all the things he talks about, and by rights, I should have had an amazing dating life. For me, there was not too much new information, but a good basis for the uninitiated.
This was my airport read. It's a great refresher everytime to understand or atleast have a glimpse on men's brain in how men think when it comes to relationship. By knowing and getting the idea of what men want and they're l after for, give the women a practical knowledge to continue or not to have a relationship or be in a relationship. It's a great read. Would recommend.
This book made me think. It was real honest information, unfiltered. For that, I say thank you. I have been doing all the wrong things. I know why I am still single.
