They are wallflowers, bluestockings, merry widows, and debutantes—members of a secret, exclusive Lady’s Club in Berkeley Square! There ladies indulge in daring wagers, learn to fight, read scandalous books, and learn the art of wooing the gentlemen they will bring to their knees…
A proper lord. A rebellious lady. A dare that could ruin them both...
Lady Charity Rutherford accepted a dare to steal back romantic letters that had the power to compromise a friend. But the last thing she expected was to encounter a mysterious gentleman doing the same job. Worse, that person was the very proper and far too handsome Earl of Ralston.
Ethan Hawkins knew Lady Charity was trouble the moment he set eyes on her. The kind of trouble that kept him awake late at night with dreams of ravishing her, that resulted in breaking into houses and chasing lightning during a thunderstorm. She was too daring and unconventional for him to even consider making her his countess, yet during each moment spent with the sweet hellion, he becomes convinced they just might be perfect for each other.
Until she asks for something he cannot give, and he realizes he must reveal his heart to Charity... or risk losing her forever.
Alyssa Clarke writes steamy Regency Historical Romances featuring swoon-worthy heroes and sassy, sometimes unconventional heroines! Her debut novel, Love Me, If You Dare, came to her in a dream as a hot, fun enemy to lover romance where she played the leading lady who fell in love with a duke who looked remarkably like Henry Cavill.
When not writing, Alyssa enjoys hiking, games/movie night, with her husband and two beautiful children, and her Siberian Husky, Cronus. She is a lover of wine, cheesecake, and more wine.
Ok, I admit I was smiling pretty much the whole time I was reading this. It was light and fluffy, with witty and charming banter, and likable characters.
The hero has a reputation for being straitlaced and avoids scandals at all costs. I found him to be largely a serious fellow with a side of dry humor and he was completely intrigued by the heroine and her adventurous spirit. Intrigued enough to throw caution to the wind for a few kisses.
The heroine was a somewhat modern-thinking heroine of 25-yrs old that was holding out for the perfect man for her. It wasn’t ‘too modern’ enough to ruin the historical feel for me though. I loved how she was forthcoming of her feelings, of her kisses kissed and desires with her friends (and the hero). She was easily delighted, loved adventure, was open minded and polite in the face of snobby female competition.
I loved how they first meet in the dark library, the hero sneaks up behind her and surprises her with - “Those letters belong to me,” a voice murmured at her hair. “You will hand them over.”
I also enjoyed reading of their time hiding behind the heavy drapes, but seriously how were they not heard by the viscount that was seducing a lady not far away from them on a couch? 🤯 Then that viscount and his lady-friend start making the kinds of sounds one might hear…. in the bedroom. 🫣 Sounds that the hero needed to awkwardly explain to the heroine, as she was concerned why the lady was making moaning noises. That was cute.
He pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes tightly. Charity got the sense this man would throttle her if he could.
The very proper Earl of Ralston was very possibly attracted to her. The notion did not frighten her in the least, instead a jolt of thrill scythed down her.
“Lady Charity,” Ethan said, “Will you honor me with a dance for the next set?” Astounded delight settled on her face, and she favored him with a blindingly bright smile. “A dance?” 😍
An all-around adorable romance with some good steam added in. Don’t expect anything too deep, it’s all fluff. A good balance between the heavier or darker stories.
Lady Charity Rutherford wants to help her friend Jenna, so she breaks into Lord Sallis’ house to retrieve the love letters Jenna wrote, only she encounters Jenna’s brother Ethan, the Earl of Ralston on the same quest. The pair are nearly caught when Sallis arrives home early but they hide behind the curtains. Ethan is a upright, honourable gentleman who shouldn’t be interested in Charity & Charity certainly shouldn’t be dreaming of the stuffy Ethan But!! Then Jenna asks Charity to accompany her to the family’s country estate. The fourth book in this lovely debut series & another accomplished book, which I loved & read well into the night to finish it. The characters ooze depth & the pace is fast. I loved both Ethan & Charity, sparks flew whenever they were together. Their verbal banter is witty & entertaining & the chemistry is combustible. I loved how the more they became friends the more they found they were compatible then the L word raised its head & things took a dive until Jenna intervenes. My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
I really, really loved this book. So far, I have loved this whole series..a lot. I really loved these characters. Charity and Ethan were such a great couple. I just love how they met. The storyline is great. The characters were well written. Just a great read. I actually read this book in one sitting. I couldn't put it down.
I would definitely recommend this book.
I can't wait for the next one. I wish I had it to read right now!!!
Lady Charity (25- basically a spinster) sneaked into a viscount house to retrieve romantic letters that could jeopardize her friend's reputation. Only to confront Lord Ethan the brother of said friend who wants to protect the honor of his sister.
Lord Ethan the earl is pragmatic/ cold and never engaged in any scandal. He wants an upstanding wife with the same qualities. However, Lady Charity is wild/ improper/ hopeless romantic and would only marry for love.
They begin as friends who banter and then the chemistry and love get intensified bit by bit.
This was a fantastic read! Plenty of twists and turns the hero and heroine had plenty of chemistry with a slow burn romance. The author did a fantastic job of pulling the reader into the lives of the characters I actually felt like a bystander in their lives! Great story I highly recommend!
Charity and Ethan (Ralston). Ethan's sister, Jenna was in love/courting but the douchebag was caught cheating on her so she called everything off. Homie, being the gentleman he is, tells her that he has the love letters that she sent him and that if they were released she would be ruined. Given that her brother is considered very straight laced/by the book/upstanding/a true gentleman he would've forced her to marry the loser. Jenna put a dare on the women's social club for 100 lbs to the lady who dares steal them back for her. Charity takes up the dare not for money but to protect one of her "sisters". The night she sneaks into scumbag's house, she picks a couple of locks and finds the letters. She also finds that she was not alone in the house. Jenna's brother Ethan was also in the house to steal back the letters.
They have some banter back and forth and while he tries to take the letters from Charity (she stuffed them in her shirt and he was unbuttoning her shirt to retrieve them) our cheating loser comes home with his lightskirt for the evening. Not to get caught Ethan and Charity hide behind some curtains in his library (or study or drawing room, who cares). As to be expected loverboy decides to tup his lady in the room so Charity and Ethan were privy to the sounds. Charity and Ethan are pressed up against each other behind the curtains and she keeps trying to see what is happening (the sounds weren't enough). Ethan is crazy aroused and Charity keeps squirming around him. They don't get caught and are able to escape the house (Charity keeps the letters to return back to Jenna the next morning).
Prior to going to visit Jenna and return the letters, at breakfast, her brother and SIL call her out for returning home late dressed inappropriately (she was wear pants and a shirt to be a thief because a ball gown would've been a problem). Her brother tells her that he plans to match her with some Lord thinking that marriage and kids would settle her down. She has no desire for that. At Jenna's, she returns the letters and finds that Jenna had twisted her ankle and had a pretty bad sprain. Her doctor suggested and they were going to retire to the Ralston country estate for a couple of weeks for her to heal. She asks Charity to come with to keep her company and she agrees (feeling like getting away for a couple of weeks will calm her brother's plan to marry her off). Ethan takes Charity aside and tells her to refuse to go with Jenna. He kisses her (passionately and admits that he desires her and while he can control himself, his desire is high and he may not prevent her from ending up in his bed (he tried to scare her into not going and it didn't work).
In the country with his mom and aunt, he finds that his mom has invited an eligible debutante, Alice and her mother to stay with them (they're playing matchmaker). Alice is a perfect match for Ethan, she has perfect manners, no chance of scandal, a good connection just all around countess material. Charity on the other hand took her time in the country to be full on hoyden. She and Jenna are riding horses astride, hair not perfectly contained, she runs through the house exploring in the middle of the night barefoot, dances in the rain and just lives life freely.
Ethan cannot stay away from her and his mother, Alice and her mother, his aunt, etc all see it. Alice keeps making snide remarks about Charity and how she's too old or has friends that aren't fashionable and wouldn't be a match Ethan would need. Funnily, Charity agreed with her. She cannot deny her attraction for him but she's realistic and knows what he's looking for in a future wife and it ain't her. That being said, they keep stealing kisses. In the rain (more like lightning storm), a tree he was kissing her against was hit by lightning and a branch falls and knocks him out. She runs to get help and he wakes up in his room in the middle of the night. She is sitting on his bed. She was kept away from him so she had to sneak in. She was scared that she had lost him and he's giving in to his desire and kisses her:
Ethan: "I am not letting you go back to your room tonight...but I am giving you a chance to run". Charity: "I am not running from you." Ethan: "In the event you mistake my intention, in a few minutes, you will be sheathed deeply onto my cock and sobbing with pleasure" SERIOUSLY SEXY STUFF HERE.
They end up having sex.
"The pain was sharp, shocking and not at all what she expected...He moved slightly and she whimpered. 'Easy,' he said, 'the pain shall soon pass.' (Charity)'How do you know it? This has happened to you before?'" I love Charity she has a quick wit and is just all around entertaining. I want her as my friend.
Anyways, the next AM he looks for her and asks her to marry him. When she asked him why, he said because he ruined her and his honor dictated it. She tells him no. She wants to marry for love and he is cynical when it comes to love. He couldn't guarantee her that he would eventually love her so she declined to marrying despite loving him herself. Charity runs back to London to get away from her feelings for Ethan.
After a couple of weeks of them being distracted in their misery of wanting each other he goes to London and sets up a meeting with her brother. She thinks he plans to use a letter she wrote him (inviting him to an assignation) to force her brother into making her marry Ethan. So she sneaks into his townhouse to steal back the letter. He is of course waiting for her. They have another discussion about marrying and she's holding firm that if their marriage isn't based on love then she couldn't marry him. He returns her letter but she doesn't take it (its the first letter she sent; he keeps it because its the first one he's received). They end up having sex again almost like a goodbye bang. He ends up canceling the appointment with her brother and returns back to the country estate. He did tell her that if there were any consequences from their activities (i.e. a baby) she should tell him.
Misery continues and she finally realizes that like a seed love grows and they have the foundation needed for it to grow. She's unreasonable to expect after a short time for him to be madly in love with her but she knows how they feel about each other. She receives a letter from Jenna telling her that Alice is stepping up her pursuit of her brother and Charity needs to come save him (oh and she's bored and misses her friend). She runs back to his estate. He thinks she's back to tell him she's pregnant (which would've forced them to marry) but she had just got a visit from Aunt Flo and she nodes to him that she isn't.
They take a walk up to some look out and Alice is all over Ethan (staking her claim). At the lookout Charity wanders off and ends up falling when the ground gave way. Ethan runs to save her and he starts pouring out how he can't live without her and all his feelings and his plans to return to London and woo her. She's not knocked out and hears it. She tells him that she came down to tell him that she loved him and that she wanted to marry him.
I couldn't put this one down. So fun and sexy and Charity...she makes the whole book. I love her.

This book is 🔥. I didn’t think this series could get any better and then came along Ethan and Charity. Holy smoke are they hot together. Their chemistry is insane and Ethan just absolutely captured my heart. The plot was great and I flew through the book. Great read and I would highly recommend. I think I’ve found a new staple author for my shelf!
Ethan is struck by thunder Charity. Charity is another "full of attitude" club member at 48.
Another light and satisfying story. I'm enjoying the lightness and characters in this series. Something I don't like, however, is how FMC always requires true love to commit (sometimes actions are enough?), but I realize it's the easiest drama to add to the plot.
Another fun, spicy entry in the Wallflowers series! The MCs were interesting, and I really liked the progression of their relationship. The exploration of love language was also refreshing in a historical romance. Worth reading! 4 stars
Lady Charity Rutherford’s friend Jenna was under threat of having to marry selfish Viscount Sallis because she sent him love letters of poetry! He only wanted the dowry he could collect. So Charity would steal the romantic letters so he could not use them against her. She was not expecting to run into Jenna’s brother, Ethan Hawkins, the Earl of Ralston, trying to help Jenna as well.
After an exciting adventure over procuring the letters, Ethan and Charity developed a friendship. He knew she was too wild and daring to be his countess; yet he definitely wanted her. But has Charity decided she wants the single life forever? Does he want to propose to her as their friendship brings them closer and closer? What if she refuses, more to be stubborn than to realize she is falling in love?
I enjoyed this story with the likable and amusing characters whose banter was excellent. These two, although very different, were perfect for each other. Grab your copy and see if their story turns into a HEA.

Will her stubbornness blind her to what she could miss …
I discovered the author’s work with her previous book in this series, so it was much gladly that I sat for a few hours with this new addition to the series. Charity is a heroine as I love them, confident without being haughty, comfortable in her own-skin and determined to never fall for less than she deserves. And while she is far from perfect, she enjoys after all pursuits forbidden to women, she might be demanding what she is allowed but too immediately, without engaging herself too. Ethan does not see the need of love in his life, a well respected spouse from good stock with a good upbringing is what he believes he needs. Yet the hellion, he caught sneaking in a rake’s home to retrieve his sister’s letters, seems to have left a deep imprint in his mind and invades his thoughts and senses at all hours. But is it enough to lead to a well matched marriage…
Together they have fun even if they butt heads on their different view of a success union, when the facts all point to deeper feelings than both want to really acknowledge. A sensual tale of two persons who stand by their opinion, yet are too blind and stubborn to realize they have already accomplished the journey toward love. 4.5 stars

I have been granted an advance copy by the author, here is my true and unbiased opinion.
This author continues to improve! I think this was is the best addition to this series so far (with the first book being a close second)! Overall this was well written. I really enjoyed the story and main characters, The actual writing of the author has gotten significantly better with each book!
This addition follows Chastity, one of the founding members of the Lady's Club. She takes on a dare to steal back a packet of romantic letters for one of the members, and Chastity's friend, Jenna. Jenna had exchanged letters/had a bit of a romantic connect with a certain Earl (Or Viscount? I can't remember), and he planned to use the letters to blackmail her into marrying him. Chastity sneaks into his home to steal the letters but crosses paths with another person trying to retrieve the same letters, Jenna's brother the Earl of Ralston. The connection between the two sparks during this meeting and the rest of the book follows their budding relationship with all the challenges and drama it entails.
As I said above, I really really liked this. Chastity and Ethan were both very likable characters. The progression of their relationship was perfectly paced and believable, as well as finding the perfect mix of steam and true connection. I read this all in one sitting and I'm excited for the next book in the series.
One of my main complaints for the last couple of books in the series was how the drama at the climax of the story seemed to follow this formula - The smart, witty wallflower who believes in love begins to fall for the uptight and pragmatic, but secretly liberal, titled gentleman. The gentleman cannot say "I love you" so the spunky gal runs away - It became too repetitive and felt like super easy drama, rather than having any sort of external storyline or something else push the story along. This addition did have a little bit of this, but I didn't end up disliking or thinking Chastity was selfish. I will count this as a win. Something that I did notice was the dialogue did lean a bit modern, which can sometimes annoy me with historical romances. Also, Chastity was addressed as "Lady Chastity", which I'm fairly certain isn't how she actually should be addressed. I'm pretty sure first names were almost never used by acquaintances, so she should have gone by something else like Lady Rutherford.
Over the decades, I have read a LOT of Regency romance because it is my favorite subgenre of romance. So, an author has to work pretty hard to surprise me. But this one did, and I say that with delight. The first scene, which is quite long (but well written), was refreshing and brilliant. At times, it was laugh-out-loud funny, and I especially loved the parts seen through the hero’s eyes as he grapples with his first dealings with the heroine in an unforeseen circumstance. His thoughts were so amusing but completely made sense within the context of what was happening during the scene. By the way, I liked that the author portrayed the heroine as a true innocent during this first scene. Far too often lately, Regency authors are imbuing their heroines with more modern sensibilities and knowledge, especially about intimacy. So it was wonderful to see a young woman confused by the sounds of intimacy happening beyond the curtain where she was hiding. She wanted to be certain the sounds coming from the woman did not betray she was being harmed! LOL! The heroine is fantastic in other ways as well, a somewhat brash but courageous young woman, especially for those times. You can't help but like her as she risks her reputation to help a friend who has been made miserable by a scoundrel. The hero and heroine certainly had chemistry in spades, and I loved watching their interaction, especially as neither particularly liked their attraction to the other… yet they can’t resist the pull. The book was simply a delight from start to finish, and I highly recommend it.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Lady Charity Rutherford knows right from wrong, but she doesn't really care too much for rules or making pretty at society functions. So, when her friend Jenna confides in her that she has done something that may affect her life - well, Charity know she must help! Charity has now trespassed & entered Viscount Sallis' home to search for the love poems Jenna had written to him & now he was going to use it against her to force a marriage to fill his destitute viscountcy. The house was empty as she knew he was at his club but during her search she felt as though someone was watching & he was, Jenna's brother Ethan.
Ethan Hawkins, the 13th Earl of Ralston, is proper, honorable & is in the market for a perfect Ton wife to make his countess. But tonight, he is showing a completely new side after coming to Lord Sallis' home to retrieve the letters his sister wrote & who would he catch there but the hoyden & his sister friend, Charity. After confronting her, Sallis & his companion for the evening come home & proceed to carry on a romantic affair on the desk while Ethan & Charity hide behind the curtains in the same room - the curtain scene is hilarious.
Once they meet & start their bantering, fireworks fly & a friendship is built & then love is mentioned & everything they have built come crashing down - now it's Jenna's turn to help her brother & her friend. I have loved every book in this series & I highly recommend it to all historical romance reader who enjoy a little spice in their love stories. I voluntarily read & reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts & opinions are my own.
The steam, passion, and tension of this book was off the charts! The storyline was so very good! I was hooked from the start. I had read the previous book of this series so I was familiar with the ladies of 48 Berkeley Square and I enjoyed the last book so very much. This book outshined that one. The icy earl Ethan isn't a person with whom Charity would ever think to form a friendship with but when they are both after the same thing, she can't help but speak her mind and in the end, gets more than she bargained for. The hiding behind the curtain scene is fantastic! Critiques- the whole storyline of the rakish viscount Jenna had written to seem to be put to rest rather quickly after the letters were returned, surely he would have noticed. The ending was abrupt, it just ended, no epilogue, nothing. I would have like to have had it wrapped up nicely. It left several things hanging (Alice, Jenna, Thomas) The entire last few chapters felt really rushed compared to the nice flow of most of the book.
Overall however this was a great story, I highly recommend it.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
AN UNEXPECTED ATTRACTION Charity Rutherford will do anything on a dare for a friend. Breaking in Lord Sallis' house to find love letters written by her friend is not a hardship. Encountering her friend's brother also after the letters is a surprise. Ethan Hawkins, Earl of Ralston, never expected to find Charity after the letters. Forced to hide together when Sallis returns home with a lady, Ethan and Charity discover they are attracted to each other. He is looking for a proper wife, Charity is an unconventional hoyden and hellion at heart, but the attraction is powerful and sweeps them away to sexual encounters. He offers marriage, but what is love? Laugh out loud one minute and tears the next. The previous books are just as entertaining. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book via Booksprout.
10/10 must read stars! The heroine is fun and spunky. She pushes back on society standards and doesn't hesitate to forge her own path. I absolutely loved Charity. She was easy to connect with and root for from the very first page.
Ethan, the hero of this novel, a man of honor and sensible actions finds himself at odds with his growing affection for Charity. The witty banter between these two really pushed the story forward for me. And the angst... what can I say... it was all perfect... just perfect!
I highly recommend this novel and will definitely be reading Ruin Me, If You Dare again and again!
*Both the h/H had other suitors clamoring for their attention however there is no cheating. I consider this a safe read in that sense. *Descriptive bedroom scenes but not over done.
A member of a secret ladies club, Charity has accepted a dare to break into a gentleman's house and retrieve a packet of love letters to protect a friend's reputation. Unfortunately, her friend's brother is also attempting to steal the letters, and they end up hiding together to avoid being caught.
I picked this up when it was free, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't comment on historical accuracy (and frankly, unless it's wildly out of place, like aliens with ray guns running around, I don't really care too much). This is a good, fun, steamy, historical romance that is well-written and has engaging characters.
Romance tropes: manic pixie dream girl, orphan, enemies to lovers, best friend’s brother
The writing in this was so bad that I laughed at the intimate scenes, especially this one: He dragged her hard along his thigh so they fitted at their intimate valleys. Charity almost fainted at the feel of a rather prominent hardness against her womanly sex. “Ethan?” she murmured restlessly, not understanding the coil of need tightening low in her belly and throbbing in her secret place.
I don’t know what’s the worst—intimate valleys, rather prominent hardness, or her secret place, but I laughed rather hard and prominently myself.
I have loved the Wagers and Wallflowers series and this book does not disappoint. I would like to think that I would be one of the members of 48 Berkeley Square if I had lived 200 years ago. Strong, brave, feisty, opinionated, full of character but most importantly loved in a happily ever after. Allysa writes her character’s so well that I end up feeling a little sad when their story ends, and my only criticism would be that I wish that this story continued on with epilogues and a part 2. The steamy scenes are well-written and enjoyable. I cannot wait for the next in the series.
This was a great addition to Alyssa Clarke's series, not just because of the great HEA but because the characters made a shower of sparks fly off the page. With just the right amount of steamy scenes to fill out the storyline, the plot flew from scene to scene with humor, angst and adventure. Definitely, the perfect combination.
This fourth installment of the Wagers and Wallflowers series was pretty good! This one features Lady Charity and Ethan, the Earl of Ralston. Charity was a character introduce in previous novels. This one finds Charity helping out a fellow Wallflower sister Jenna in stealing back some scandalous poems she wrote to someone she fancied herself in love with. During the heist, Charity finds herself in the same place as Jenna's brother Ralston who is also trying to take back the letters to protect his sister from ruin.
Hijinks ensue and the two find themselves becoming closer than ever. It takes a week in the country for those feelings to come to fruition.
While I enjoyed this book, it wasn't my favorite of the series. I felt there could have been more development between Charity and Ralston. It started out well, but then kind fell apart for me. Still worth my time reading, I just think the author got lazy toward the end.
Ethan Hawkins, the Earl of Ralston and Lady Charity 🔥 Lady charity & Lord Ethan met during dire consequences. They were both breaking into a home of a womanizing Viscount to steal Love letters that Lady Jenna wrote. Both were trying to protect Lady Jenna's Reputation within the ton. Those letters would force her to marry a man who was blackmailing her Family into marriage. Ethan Hawkins, the proper Earl of Ralston demanded that Lady Charity give him the 💘 letters that his sister wrote to that cad. He needed to save his sister's honor. Lady Charity was Strong minded & determined to keep her promise on recovering the letters & hand delivering them back to Lady Jenna. Her dear friend & fellow sister from the Ladies 48 Berkeley Square Club. She was dared to get those letters back. 48 Berkeley Square Club allows them to be themselves. No perfect 💐flowers for society. Unfortunately, both parties are stuck behind a curtain, who are waiting in the Viscount's library. While he finish his task with his current tart on his desk. Lady Charity is intrigued by the noises that the two are making on the desk. This encounter leads Lord Ethan as to what other skills can he learn from the fascinating Lady charity. Read their love story
Such a fun book! Ethan was an earl with a staid reputation, who was determined to marry a proper ton approved lady. Charity was a smart, bubbly lady with an unconventional point of view and a zest for life. She was also a dear friend of his sister. When they encountered one another on a retrieval mission that required them to spend time together in hiding, things shifted for both of them. This story has clever banter, tempting love scenes, endearing characters (except for Alice), and a lesson about love. There is a wonderful lightness to this tale; even though there are tense and sad moments, Charity’s effervescence carries the day. This is the perfect story to read after a tough day…..you just can’t help smiling.

This is book 4 in the Wager and Wallflowers series. I suppose you don't need to read the other 3 books in the series first, but you do learn about some of the other characters and it helps you understand everything a little more I think. Besides, the other 3 books are great too! This book is about Lady Charity Rutherford and Ethan Hawkins, Earl of Ralston. This story continues with the ladies of 48 Berkeley Square. Charity breaks into a house to retrieve letters for a friend (of course it has to do with a bet too!) and who does she find there but the Earl of Ralston trying to steal the same letters! Great story, great chemistry with the couple. I love how the ladies of 48 Berkeley Square are so opposite but all so spunky and not the typical ladies of the ton. Can't wait for book 5!
I received a free copy of this book for my honest review.

Writing: Mediocre What I Like: I was affected at some point when they are not together like they both miss each other but they are in different in opinion when it comes to marriage. Hotness: 2 🔥🔥 What I don't Like: Full of cliche situations. Trope: Unconventional Heroine, Freckled Heroine, Starchy Hero Plot: So Ralston is a starchy hero but he always noticed Charity despite being reckless, a little bit hoyden and not proper for him at all. The spark started when they both tried to retrieve his sister's letter to a certain gentleman's house. So attraction was there, she is one of his sister best friends and invited her to their country estate where all the romantic things happens. Charity is adamant of marrying without love but still give him her virtue and then when he wanted to do the right thing she refused because he does not love her etcetera......
