Aidan I’m a jackass. But you know what? At least I’m willing to admit that. I’m not like these imposters walking around, wearing their false identities to the public. They don their business suits and pretend they’re reasonable fair men in the world of cutthroat business. These douchebags will f*ck you over the second your back is turned to them. Not me. I’ll f*ck you over while I’m looking straight into your eyes, and I won’t hesitate to do it. I’m Aidan f*cking West. The Asshole of the East. I’m greedy and cold, and I take what I want. And what I want since the passenger next to me opened her mouth and uttered the word “f*ck” is to stick my tongue down her throat and taste her. Taste every inch of her. I'm a man that gets what he wants. And what I want is Ivy Montcalm. The black- and red-haired girl who shows up in my life, swearing like a pirate, dressed in nothing but short-shorts and a tiny top. She's my quest, and I never let a quest go unfinished.Ivy Aidan West is the most arrogant man I have ever met. He's loaded with charm, has a filthy mouth, and don't get me started on those late night messages! What we have is more than just attraction, though. I fear it’s something deeper. I started off as a quest, but I think I’m more than that now. I’ve never wanted a man more, but I can’t have him. Not when my world is in shambles and I’m trying to build the courage to end this toxic chapter of my life and start over. I’m hurting, and he’s there for me. I’m lonely and he fills that void. He offers me friendship when I want more. When he wants more, I’m terrified of change. How do you let go of familiarity when it’s all you’ve known? I’m scared I’m not strong enough, and I’m scared Aidan won’t be there waiting for me when I finally am.Mister West is book 1 of 2 in the Mister West duet. Book 2, titled SIR, is out now.
New York Times and USA Today bestseller, R.J. Lewis, is the number one bestselling author of the Ignite series, the Loving Lawson series, the Borden series, and numerous other titles. She has been writing all her life and looks forward to sharing her stories with readers who are interested in character growth and romance of the unconventional kind.
listen, irl i swear i'm very empathetic to women stuck in toxic relationships. it fucks w your brain chemistry and has you settling for much less than you deserve.
however, i read romance for escapism purposes. if i wanted to listen to a man whine about stupid shit while the heroine makes excuses for him i'd just call my ex 🤪🤡
plus girlie has a tech billionaire in front of her but is still w this lil bitch boy. shoulda dropped him like a hot potato the minute mr billionaire started talking about eating her out on an airplane, gbye
Mister West, you swept me off my feet from the very first page. From your insolence, followed by arrogance, to mouthwatering charm; it was ultimately your dirty talk that stole my heart.
Aiden West is what the tabloid magazines salivate over. Gorgeous, wealthy, successful, manwhore. Everyone wants a piece, except her. The little nobody sitting next to him on a flight, who completely bewitches him with her animosity and foul mouth. The sparks are instant.
She raises a brow. “You’re saying I look stupid.”
“Never said it.”
“Yeah, you did. In a roundabout way. Fucker.”
I smirk. When was the last time I was called a fucker? “You’re a foul-mouthed stunner,” I remark.
Two strangers, two very different walks of life, who have great chemistry once they get past their version of pleasantries. Aiden and Ivy are equally pissed for two different reasons. But you know what they say, misery likes company. And these two can somehow manage to make each other smile despite their woes. It eventually flows into playful flirtation until it crosses the line.
Who is this girl? I ask myself this out loud so many times. “Who are you, Ivy?” I whisper. “This isn’t you. You’re not you. I miss you.”
Where Aiden is numb, Ivy is broken. Yet these two are like the missing pieces to something spectacular. However one is unavailable. Technically married, but with one foot metaphorically out the door.
Their acquaintance wasn't supposed to go further then that flight. But what happens when the playboy becomes the lifeline? Magic...
She frowns. “I don’t want to want you.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re a smug bastard.”
“No,” I disagree, still on a whisper. “You don’t want me because once you have a taste of me, you’ll never walk away. I would ruin you, and you would beg for that destruction. I guarantee it.”
This book is the first in a duet, and it was beautifully gripping. A burgeoning love affair that essentially grows over a questionable friendship. This wasn't instant. There were many issues, raging emotions and setbacks before the action kicked in. And I savoured every moment.
Love doesn't always come in a perfect package. And Aiden and Ivy are proof. But geez I wanted them to workout regardless the fallout. This grabbed me by the bollocks and slayed me. 💙
Had high fucking potential to be a 4 star read, but ended up being a 3 star read instead.
Felt like the 'Sir' and 'Mister' used by the characters are kinda forced to be there so that it fits the title.
I do have to commend Aiden, he was really patient with Ivy, willing to wait for her and just giving his all for her. Wanting the whole white picket fence with her.You can feel that he really loves Ivy, his desperation for her was really conveyed well.
I felt there was a lot of filler scenes, and the interesting parts only happens at certain points.
I hate that the cliffhanger turns out to be the H having Amnesia and the h went to track him down and the doors open to an EX which the H don't remember kicking to the curb.(Cuz ya know Amnesia🙄) He came to the door being half-naked, and the readers are not sure if he slept with the Ex or not.It leaves a really bitter taste on the tongue after experiencing how much Aiden loved Ivy in the previous chapters.
Also, it was said that the H had reverted back to his assholish self;before his grandmother intervened and helped him become a better person. We didn't get to see that assholish side in this book, and now the heroine will be experiencing that in the next.
I don't know how I feel about that.I just know is going to be an angsty ride and I guess it would be interesting to see how the h is going to get the H to remember her and fall in love with her again, but this time his personality being a total 180.
I honestly don't think the H slept with his Ex, I have read all of R.J Lewis books, and cheating have never occurred in her books, the OW are usually just there for angst and jealousy.
I do enjoy it normally for the angst, as long as the H never cheats on the h, but I don't like it in this case where they leave it as a cliff hanger if the H had slept with his EX or not, and with amnesia, cheating can suddenly be subjective. Her husband cheated on her, and I am hoping to god Aiden wouldn't do her dirty like that, especially when he said before how much of a rancid cunt his EX was, and how much he hated her.
My 3 star rating is because of Aiden, and his devotion for Ivy, I hope the Amnesia didn't fucked with his head too much
I have a feeling Ivy's ex husband would make an appearance in the next book, I felt everything ended a little too easily in this book, with the conflict with her husband.
Warning: The H slept with OW during a 3-week separation. The H and h weren't together It was stated but the encounter was not described and detailed.Stated in chapter 5 or 6 I don't really remember, but it was in the earlier chapters.
Explanation(If y'all are interested): The h first met the H during a plane ride where they were sat together. H realizes she was married after they bonded on the plane ride. H doesn't do married woman, and so in the end he decided to back off despite liking her and feeling a connection. He left after sending her to her house. There were a 3 weeks separation. The H slept with 1 OW-he said she looks like the h that's why he slept with her. He couldn't stop thinking about the h, and in the end, tries to find her on Facebook after 3 weeks of resisting himself. After that, he never slept with OW when they started to text through Facebook. There were advances made towards him but he rejected all of them
5 damn 💥 !!!! I really can't with the cliffhanger. This was... a rollercoaster ride. The best book I've read this year so far. I can't wait for Sir to come out. Hope these two get the HEA they badly deserve!
O livro é bom, história bem contada, romance, a química do casal, até engraçado. Pena que a autora resolveu criar um drama desnecessário no final do livro, que pena!
Gahhhhh!!! I should have waited. I should have waited. I should have waited. I SHOULD HAVE WAITED TO READ THIS BOOK UNTIL THE SECOND ONE WAS OUT!!!! 😫 dammit!!!
Oh my God ive literally just finished this book like twenty mins ago and my mind is going crazy. ive never read a book with an ending like that and i dont know what to expect wiht Sir!!! lets be clear here guys. this book isnt a love triangle AT ALL. i read some reviews before going in last night and i should have gone in blind instead. someone said it was a love traingle but ivy is separated and has been for months and has made it clear she's done with her husband which was a relief for me because I need to be emotionally ready to take on a love triangle. Ivy just lives with Derek over the process and has reservations about letting the past go. loved that the book touched on trauma bond! this needs to be something talked about more. mr west is everything and more. when they finally get intimate after pages of torturous flirting, light touches, searing stares and almost kisses, the pages burnnnnnn. PS the haircut scene, the ice cream parlor, or the tree scene? i can't decide which was hotter. i love reading a book that you can feel just as satisfied without the sex LOL
Another great book from RJ Lewis. She can really pull those emotional punches. If you like a steamy slow burn, please pick up this book! Impatiently waiting for book 2
We have two individuals who are both broken-hearted and dealing with it in different ways. While I don’t care for their actions at times, their reasonings DO make sense, even if I want to smack them upside the head to get them thinking the right way, lol. DEFINITELY looking forward to book 2!
This book was very well done. This was a very dramatic messy story with real person problems.
For the first half of the story, I was a little frustrated because it FELT like Ivy was staying with Derek just for a plot point. Aiden and Ivy the star crossed romance, can't be together because of Derek. But this turned out to not be the case.
We're introduced to Ivy and Aiden on an airplane, they are seat mates. Aiden is your modern day Elon Musk but he lost a bet, so he was forced to fly economy with the plebians. Ivy is on her way home from her mom's house, she was nursing a bad break up after she found out her husband cheated on her. Her mom forced her to go back to Derek to "work it out". The issue is, Ivy has already given up on the relationship. The only reason she stays is because her name is on the lease and she's afraid Derek will spiral and have no where to go after she leaves.
Derek and Ivy's relationship was really confusing. After the plane ride, Ivy tells Aiden she can't be with him because she's in a relationship with Derek. Unfortunately for Derek, they are more like room mates. And this is what I mean by it's confusing, for the first half of the book Derek is used just as a barrier between Aiden and Ivy. But! Ivy is still trying to kind of make it work? She clearly controls the purse strings in the relationship because she's constantly harping on Derek that they don't have enough money for him to go out drinking with his friends. Yet, Ivy is allowed to eat out for lunch almost daily and buys herself coffee every morning.
This is something I like to do when I'm reading in a first person perspective. Kind of take myself out of that person's perspective and look at the relationship objectively.
I kind of found Ivy to be super selfish with Derek. The fact that she came back and for months just kind of lead him along to think there was a chance at saving their relationship, that's pretty shitty. Even though, we get to witness Derek fighting her on staying and he fights really hard. It still doesn't matter. She should have left long ago.
But! And this is why I liked the story, Ivy realizes this later on. So we're going through this journey from her perspective and we're learning her lessons, right along with her.
As mentioned above, Ivy does have her moment where she's like Derek we are DONE! But Derek starts freaking out and won't let Ivy leave to move in with her best friend Ana. So in comes are knight in shining armor Aiden. He rescue's Ivy and forces her to move in with him.
This is where, obviously, Ivy needed a break from one relationship to the next but she jumped out of the frying pan into the fire. She moves in with Aiden, they get hot and heavy real fast and Ivy realizes she needs to take a step back.
The depression she suffered while in her relationship with Derek was never addressed. So now she's spiraling while she's with Aiden and realizes she needs space from him to work through this. Of course this is after he tried to take things slow with her but Ivy wanted to rush things and he finally caved to her.
So now Ivy leaves and takes a step back by moving into her friend Ana's house. Aiden chases her down but then is like "if this is what you want, we'll work through it." So Ivy puts herself through therapy and starts figuring herself out and then Aiden goes MIA.
And then we find out what a cliff hanger, amirite?
I'm not the biggest fan because I think there was already so much to work with in the story, without throwing that kink into the plot but we'll see where this goes.
Aiden, a billionaire tech entrepreneur, is travelling in an economy class seat for his flight back to Ottawa having lost a bet. He’s already perturbed by the situation only to find out that his seat neighbour, Ivy, is a feisty, foul-mouthed, raging chick that he’s undeniably attracted to.
They end up hitting it off and he propositions her, only to find out that she’s married. Separated, but married nonetheless. He gives her a lift home and notes how reluctant she is to return to the apartment she shares with her husband.
After a few weeks he can no longer stay away and reaches out via Facebook. Elated, Ivy responds and they start up a sort of texting friendship - laced with Aiden’s occasional sexually explicit fantasies of her. Will she finally cut things off with her husband for this intriguing, hot, unexpected Adonis?
Hooked! Absolutely hooked! I’m so glad I waiting for Sir to come out before diving into Mister West as I would’ve gone mad wanting to know what happens! Rana is the queen of cliffhangers and this duet is no exception.
Ivy frustrated me no end by staying with her husband, Derek, for so long and constantly making excuses for him. Luckily, I have never been in a toxic relationship though so I have no frame of reference…but my god did I want to shout at her and shake her so many times. And then for how she treats Aiden near the end too! So frustrating. But written so incredibly well you just can’t put it down.
The story is harrowing, what keeps them apart is the kind of story that some readers feel uncomfortable to read...
What if you met the right person at the wrong time?
Mister West delves into this scenario and I can honestly say I was a mixed bag of emotions. When things were good it was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 ... but when things were bad? Well that’s when the reading was heavy and I was on the edge of my seat, biting my nails 😬 and wishing the characters had made different choices.
The readers know Ivy needed time. In this case the time Ivy would need would not work in her favour.
As for Aidan West, we just don’t know enough. Aidan told Ivy the power she has over him. But how will that work in her favour when when first, she wasn’t ready for all that is Mister West and secondly, her time ran out and now she has to restart the clock?
This is such an emotional read and I am finding it so challenging to review this book without giving any spoilers. It’s the kind of read that can be uncomfortable to readers cause it digs deep, it’s emotionally driven and challenges our notions of free love.
Money can’t solve everything and time isn’t always on our side.
I am biting nails for book 2 Sir! I can’t wait! I want to devour this book!
Oh my word, this book is the slowest of slow burns but I really enjoyed it. It makes for some brilliant character development. There’s plenty of chemistry between this couple but for reasons which will become apparent, they don’t completely act on those for a large portion of the book. The steam is definitely there, oh boy is it, you just need to have patience!
Aidan is indeed the foul mouthed jerk the blurb suggests he is. But he’s fun with it. He’s brazen and arrogant too but I couldn’t dislike him. In fact, I loved him and the way he was with Ivy just made my heart soar. I liked Ivy very much but I was so frustrated with her at times because of the choices she made. This author does a great job of explaining the reasons why Ivy is stuck in a place she should have moved on from long ago, but that didn’t stop me from wanting to shake some sense into her. I loved the way she gives back to Aidan as good as she gets. She’s a no nonsense kind of woman, a straight talker and doesn’t play silly games. She attracts Aidan’s attention just by being herself. The witty banter between the two of them definitely had me chuckling.
Mr West is book one of a duet and after the bombshell cliffhanger it ends on, I’m chomping at the bit for the conclusion of the story, Sir.
⚠️ tw // abusive relationship and grief — i’ve fallen in love with ivy montcalm. i think i’ve loved her for a very long time. i’m not sure when it happened. it could have been sitting next to her on that flight when she was scratching at her nail polish and her ugly bracelets were clashing together. it might have been in front of her ugly apartment building when she looked up to stare at her apartment, trepidation in her eyes. she’d wanted to run. i should have taken her right then and made her mine. i might have fallen in love with her when i saw her at the ice cream parlor, and she looked like she didn’t think she belonged around a man like me. but she does. point is, i don’t know when i fell in love with ivy, but it feels like always now that i have.
wow. this book is painfully good. like really really good. the way characters are developed 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 they were both broken just waiting for the right person you know? but sometimes…… love it isn’t enough….
everything was perfect- i was going to give five starts to this one, then the author puts an amnesia plot as the cliffhanger.
🤬🤬🤬🤬 that’s me screaming. but ok. this won’t make me give the characters up. i’ll be reading the second one just to see then happy with a bunches of babies (i don’t expect less than this)
Oy! Was not expecting a cliffy. Need book 2 now!!!
I'm a huge fan of RJ Lewis and was really excited to read her latest book. I went in completely blind, not even reading the blurb.
Ivy is on a plane going from Vancouver to Ottawa and is seated next to Aiden, hot as hell but a major jerk. During the trip Aiden and his dirty mouth get to Ivy and she is very attracted to him.
When they depart the airport Aiden offers her a ride home where he learns she is married but separated and it is "complicated".
They strike up a relationship that is mainly platonic but Aiden let's her know that he wants her and is willing to wait until she can move forward.
The rest of the book plays out their burdening romance while they both deal with their demons which threaten their tentative relationship leading up to Ivy needing to take a break to work things out in her own.
The book ends on a cliffhanger and hopefully the 2nd book comes out soon cause I need it!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
No one... and I mean NO ONE can write a story like RJ Lewis...First and foremost this book is a cliffhanger but as a reader we’re quickly informed that the second book will be out any day now. No One can draw you into the passion of characters like RJ Lewis. Every single one of her books NEVER disappoints and this one is no different. The rawness of Ivy going through her separation and divorce is so real. I loved how much of this story involved the back and forth with her soon to be husband and the love and hope she started to see with Aidan. Two very broken people, trying to find their way to each other. This ending was a hard one to swallow and once you read you’ll understand. I can’t wait for the confident Ivy to spring back and take control of this situation. Its what all great stories are made of!
I'm very truly sorry, but I just can't finish this. I'm at Chapter 23 so only 10 more or sonto go, but I just can't go on anymore.
I got a feeling like I don't want to read any further, so I'm not even going to read more. Life is too short!
Almost all of this book is about the h (even forgot the name) and Derek's relationship and not a lot of the romance with West. I even got why the h didn't leave him, because he always let her see his soft and nice side, but now I can tell it's manipulation. I would be the same as the h in this one.
I read a bit from book 2 and I'm not even going to pretend I would want to read that.
*This is a review which isn't a bad one, just a "I don't want to read more of this and life is too short to read books you don't want to read." So don't let this stop you from reading this one!
I've just finished reading this book and I had to come rate and review as soon as I could!
I never in a million years expected this cliffy... I kept wondering what more could there be in book two if their feelings were out in the open and it seemed like as if everything was going to come to a close...
This was an incredibly amazing story. We could expect nothing less from R. J. Lewis. Initially when I read the blurb it wasn't my kind of story, but because it was written by one of my favourite authors I took it anyway.
I loved every bit of it and I simply cannot wait for the second part to this duet SIR.
I usually love books this author writes but was disappointed with this one. It was very similar to Fifty Shades which for me is really a case of been there read that so lets move on as all that is now really boring and has been done so many times before. The main story was actually not bad with Ivy meeting Aiden on a plane but she's not available although he is determined to get her but I hated that Ivy was made to call him Sir and the title of the book is so unimaginative. Normally this author writes gritty true to life books but this book didn't even seem like it was by the same author. Also, which I really hate, it ends on a cliff hanger with a second book to follow but so far nothing in site or no given date for the next one.
Where to start? In the last two days, I’ve read exactly two books by this author…ever. The first, I rated a 10, it was just THAT good and original. Unfortunately, I do not feel the same about this one. I was, thankfully, able to finish, but it was a struggle. The characters, dialogue, etc, did not highlight this author’s talents. I found both the H and h, but especially the h, extremely irritating and unsympathetic. I read until the end, only because the reviews said there was a cliffhanger, and I was curious. To some extent, the ending did pique my interest and was a redeeming plot twist that would cause me to consider continuing on to book 2.
This book though it seems nice was a little bit intense. It's not your typical RJ Lewis book & I respect that. The story is intriguing but I wasn't looking to read some intense book like the way this book was (toxic relationship - from what I have read so far its not between the Hero & Heroine but the Heroine & her soon to be ex husband)
So many people have loved this book & I hope I can be one of them some day in the future, until then I DNF this book 🖤!!!
