The awkwardness continues to rule, but that is so believably middle school that it adds to the story. While I love the humor and Anna's general weirdness, it's really the little nuggets of reality that make the book, like the way Anna clearly hasn't figured out how to deal with her breasts yet and the entire snack wrapper defense fiasco, which the teacher has no idea what to do with. Middle school may not have been fun to live through, but this manga makes it a gas to read about.

Much cuter than book one, kind of redeems itself. Not a thriller like I thought it would be, this is a romance. There are still sexual situations and comments though, so I don't believe the 13+ rating. This is a tricky one.

Kyotaro remains as socially awkward as Yamada remains carefree and hungry for snacks. The two seem to spend an awful lot of time together, but putting one and one together to make two is definitely a lot easier for one of the pair than the other.

A nice continuation of the first volume. This is a fairly cute story of two polar opposites who are experiencing the throes of mutual attraction, wherein one person is very direct and the other is an awkward teenage boy. There’s definitely a huge swing away from the worst aspects of the first book, which is exactly what I was hoping for.

Kyotaro maintains his gloomy and self-defeating outlook, but they largely excise his sketchier aspects (only one use of the word ‘uggo’ this time, thank god). While you could try and pin that on Yamada’s influence, he’s honestly no better in any other tangible way, so I suspect it was done to leaven him a bit.

And hey, it works. It’s fun to watch these two fumble around while Kyotaro misses the point or can’t believe it’s possible Yamada might like him. That doesn’t stop him from helping her out non-stop and if he took a second to think about it, he might realize he’s occasionally a pretty decent guy.

Yamada continues to be a very free spirited young woman who is clearly super fond of Kyotaro and can’t seem to beat the notion into his thick skull. Between shared drinks and bike rides and her endless attempts at conversation… well, Kyotaro has some work to do. You’ll probably roll your eyes at him over the McDonald’s section.

And there are some good gags, which is always a plus. Yamada’s penchant for elaborate desserts comes back and is not only funny, but ends up leading to the filthiest joke I’ve seen in a long time. It’s amazing what you can do with a little science, though I imagine everybody involved came away traumatized.

The obnoxious kid who thinks with his lower half is also back and, much as I think he is everything I despise about teenage boys, I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge that his idiocy results in then single funniest joke in the book during a trip to a manga studio. Plus a hilarious swipe at Baki that the author even apologizes for.

There’s a lot of believable teenage experience here - the awkwardness of first romances, dummies who won’t shut up about sex, trying to talk about boys you like, the fights that are life and death matters and then being friends again five seconds later.

From the joys of sharing manga to another chapter about plus-sized acceptance that I really like the book continuing as a side story, there’s a ton of enjoyable stuff. The battle over snacking in the library reaches a lovely little climax (and then immediately shrugs part of it off, because Yamada) and mint chocolate ice cream has never caused such public embarrassment before.

It’s not the best thing ever written, but it’s a very good thing that’s getting better as it establishes a nicely varied core cast and develops the relationship between our two leads. I can see this going somewhere and I definitely approve of the direction it’s headed.

3.5 stars again, but I have expectations that this series is going to get a four out of me sooner rather than later. It’s got a certain flair to it and, while it goes meaner than I’d like now and then, it mostly has its heart in the right place. It really makes some welcome progress in both the story and the storytelling this volume.

Hi Again!

It’s been a little while since we talked about a manga and recently I picked up volume two of the Dangers in My Heart. I really loved volume one so I knew I was going to want to read more and watch the anime. I have not yet started the anime (I wanted to read enough to cover at least all of season 1), so to work on that reading/watching goal I decided I would read volume two.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Yamada is a carefree candy-loving girl who attends a school where candy is not allowed from outside onto campus. She is kind of forming a weird friendship with Kyotaro, who is very socially awkward and in the last volume kind of hated her. Now he comes to the library and hides in the shelves to kind of hang out with her. Yamada is fully aware he is in there but she is not going to force him to come to her table. Between this and their weird bike rides/walks home the two are forming a kind of friendship, which is completely new to Kyotaro.

I am still really enjoying this series. I really want to see the pair become better friends in future volumes. I enjoyed the emphasis on the candy plotline within this particular volume and how Kyotaro thought it definitely had to be Yamada (it totally was not only her). I am excited to see how the anime will handle some of the situations presented in the manga. I plan to read volume three in the near future! But in the meantime, let me know what manga or anime you have tried out soon!

Okay this series selling me on it's cute, fun, and sometimes hilarious nature. I'm in.

This is mostly just small stories summed up in 10 pages or less. But it's the fact Kyotaro is a odd guy but also can tell he is really crushing on Yamada. Yamada, with her thick thighs saves lives style really sparks Kyotaro interest. But it's also her "airhead" ways that sometimes truly are her, or things she hides behind to play dumb. My favorite chapter is them getting stuck together after a school visit. It's really cute and well done. I also feel for my boy Kyotaro as a lot of the boys around his age are dumb as hell.

Overall if like cute, fun, and well done characters this is a pretty damn solid series.

If you love the anime, you will adore the manga. I've seen the manga around and haven't picked it up, but after watching the anime, I decided to get them all.

The art style is definitely different from most, so it takes a little bit to get used to, but that's what I love about it, too. I love the differences between Yamada and Kyotaro and how they fit so well together.

Volume 2 goes over Kyotaro trying to figure out how he feels towards Yamada, and their friendship continues to grow.

I wasn’t sure about this manga after reading the first volume, I like Yamada, but Kyotaro annoyed me. After reading this volume I’m hooked. I’m enjoying Kyotaro’s mindset more and that last chapter with that panel of Yamada’s reaction did it for me. I’m looking forward to volume 3!

Cute mini stories. The art is not the best, but it reads smoothly and the gags are hilarious. He is the typical pessimistic and awkward shy guy. He does everything he can to avoid her, but really wants to be close to her. She looks ditzy but is bolder. There are some panels with fan service.

A bit better than the first volume. The art already improved significantly. I don’t know if I fully like this, but it’s solid enough for the kind of comic it is.

And the very matter of fact conversation about jerking off really caught me off guard.

This volume felt alot cuter than the previous one, maybe because of his realisation at the end of the previous volume or that she is getting more involved with him. So cute.

Bool one was rough but for some reason I bought book two. I am glad I did because the story is more clear and I now seem to understand the title which helps a lot!

This was just as cute and awkward as the first volume, but surprisingly the main lead didn't do his chuunibyou routine as much. In fact, he sounded more like a typical awkward, shy, loner type character and it was very sweet. The shift was pretty subtle as well; I didn't even pick up on it until the last quarter of the manga, and I found it refreshingly subtle. Also the scene in the library in the last chapter was cute as fuck, the art conveyed the feelings expressed so well. I love these two awkward kids and can't wait to read more of their adventures.
