I loved this series and am sorry to see it end so that I will no longer get to spend time in beautiful and fascinating Tuscany with Olivia and her friends. I have to admit that it read like a fairy tale though: after becoming disillusioned with her PR job, Olivia travels to Italy and ends up as sommelier for a prestigious winery, a job for which she has absolutely no qualifications (even though her mother thinks she is just a glorified bartender). She falls in love with an abandoned farm, which is close to her work and just happens to be for sale. She then falls in love with a handsome Italian carpenter and together they discover a treasure map to a hidden underground wine cellar on her property.

Now comes he part that bothered me: suddenly Olivia turns totally stupid (although she has frequently exercised poor judgement in the past by confronting people she suspects of murder). After discovering the hidden wine cellar, Olivia questions whether it is really necessary to put a lock on it, even though she has been told by an expert that even one particular bottle would be worth a fortune. She had made no secret of what they were looking for and is shocked that word of the treasure spread so quickly. Well, duh!

The police are also stupid. It never occurs to them after seeing fallen pieces on the floor of the cave that the victim might have been hit by the stone lying beside him, rather than by their suspect. Once Olivia realized the truth she looks up and sees that the fallen piece fit the gap in the ceiling like a puzzle piece.

Obviously the story has a very happy ending after they all risk their lives to get the wine out before the ceiling collapses. Even huge boulders don't deter them from working in the falling debris to save every last single item, including some huge wine barrels.

Olivia’s mother makes “ugly & stupid American” seem like a mild statement. I hate it when a supposedly smart person, esp. a woman, suddenly turns as dumb as a rock. You find an ancient stash of wine bottles filled with wine. You’re not sure if you should padlock the entrance?!! A 3 year old would know better than to leave the treasure unsecured!

Grab the Shame Bell and ring it long and loudly for the author - SHAME! SHAME! SHAME! You made Olivia a moron.

I had hopes that through the 7 book series Olivia would grow up and the ridiculous onslaught of immaturity, insecurity and drama would morph into good story telling. But, no. From books 4 to 7 I read the first few chapters, couldn’t take it anymore and skipped to two chapters from the end to see how it all turned out. The plots were good and the characters had promise, but I just couldn’t take it.

A great ending to a good series of cozy mysteries. This book probably had the best character development and reality of all of the books in the series.

This was the last book in this series. I will miss the characters especially, Erba the goat. Hopefully the author will add more. I may try one of her other series as well for light reading.

WOW! This is my favorite book yet in the series because we learn so much about the treasure on Olivia’s property. When the hidden cellar is discovered, everyone comes out of the woodwork with a scam, claim, scheme to steal it from Olivia. Luckily, Danilo won’t let that happen. As Olivia’s mother comes for an impromptu visit, new problems arise that are only heightened when a dead man is found in the cellar and first Danilo and then Olivio become suspects.
Olivia’s mother is a challenge and her unwillingness to accept that Olivia is really staying in Italy, not just visiting, puts some strain on her budding relationship with Danilo. They’ll all band together in this book to solve the murder and clear Olivia’s name once again. Olivio will also finally tell her mother everything about her life in Tuscany and her relationship with Danilo. I hope this isn’t the end of the series but there doesn’t appear to be a book 8 in the works which makes me sad. So, I will just start one of Fiona Grace’s other Italy cozy series.
