Never run from a werewolf. My life has taught me to expect the unexpected. A serial-killer rampaging through the New York Pack? Sure. Why not? But a serial killer who smells like me ? That’s a heck of a lot more than unexpected. With the Alphas of All poking around and my own Alpha on a rampage to figure out who the murderer is, it becomes a race to see who finds the truth first. I'll find the killer. Or the Alphas will find me. Either way, it's time to face the facts. There's a lot more to being "Wolfsbane" than suppressing my pack's shifting. And I'm pretty sure it starts with my freakishly red hair. *Recommended for mature readers
Hi, I’m Lola! I’m a book lover with a *slight* romance obsession. My books are all steamy romantic fantasy or paranormal romance, and there is always a happily ever after.

The series has five books but I only read three of them. Book four and five are spinn offs with other Female leads, who we already get to know in the main series.
The review is about all three books and will be copied to the other books to.
I liked the main and side characters. Henley is a wolf who prevents other wolves from shifting. She was used and abused for this ability after her mum and her pack was killed, when she was eight years old. She was taken by a pack and they held her until another pack would kidnap her and so on. But finally she could free herself and went to New York to live under the radar. That worked out good, until she is found by the alpha of the New York pack. But he is different. Instead of abusing her, he offers her to become a member of his pack, protect her and even pays money for staying for a year. Henley agrees.
The first three books are about Henley and Roman. How she meets her mate but do not want to mate him, because she has a lot of insecurities. A lot of strange things are happening and her abilities differ from the abilities of the other wolves. Henley and Roman investigate a series of death. Which lead to more questions about Henley's heritage. And then they found out what she is and that she has to mate the only other wolf who is like her, but he is a jerk and abuser. She fights for her survival even though she is deadly ill. And Roman fights along with her.
I liked the series, and it was a solid three stars read for me. I liked how the other female wolfs drew Henley out of her shell and became good friends to her. She managed to build a chosen family.
I absolutely loved the first book of this series. So I was very disappointed that I did not like this second book. The book begins exactly where the first book ends. Henley finds out more about her background, red hair and some alpha abilities that she never knew she possessed. She also finds out more about her family, and not all of it is good news. She tries to help Roman solve the murders that are happening in the pack skyscraper but the only scent that keeps coming up, is her own.
I spent nearly the entire book irritated by our heroine, which isn’t a good sign. Normally, at this point I would give up and not finish the series. But it’s a testament to the author’s ability to spin a tale so intriguing that I’m still plowing through this, given my dislike of the MFC. I’m disappointed because I loved Henley in the first book. She has a tragic backstory but was still resilient and had a sense of humor. In this book, she seems to wear her victim status as a badge and does a lot of wallowing. I get it. Your life was tragic, but it was getting so fucking tiresome to read about all the time. In addition, she seemed to justify all the lying she did, to pretty much everyone- even about dumb shit - because no one knows her pain, blah blah blah. I got to where I skimmed a lot because I just couldn’t take it anymore.
I loved Henley and Roman’s relationship and repartee in the first book. It was funny and engaging. But in this book, to me, it seemed to take a dark turn. He’s trying everything to let her know how much he loves her, wants her and wants to mate with her, she spends every interaction with him, nearly EVERY interaction, treating it like a challenge or a competition. “You said this and I’m going to show you that you can’t control me so I’m going to do that . . .” Oh GAWD it was getting so infuriating and painful to read. She just came across as juvenile and creating needless drama. Constantly moving to another apartment because she “needs space.” Honestly, if he were my alpha, I would have lost all respect for him. The way he was traipsing after her all the time, and destroying things when he couldn’t see her. Even accounting for bonded mate protectiveness his actions were pretty dramatic. And the Roman from the first book would be too manly to be a drama queen. It kinda ruined him for me.
And can I state that her personal hygiene is abominable?! This woman seems to hardly ever shower or wash her hair. She’s always talking about running as a wolf and falling asleep, getting up to dirty, tangled hair with twigs and leaves and simply puts it up in a messy bun because she can’t be bothered with it. And she doesn’t seem to be able to dress in anything but leggings and a sports bra. Or Roman’s sweats. She just spent who knows how long rolling in the sheets with Roman and then goes to meet the alphas of all in Roman’s sweats and tshirt and yep, no shower. Seriously woman, have some pride.
All in all, the only reason I gave this book 3 stars and not 2 is because of the storyline. The concept, and workings, of a “Ruby Wolf” is so interesting and such a departure from the normal tropes. I will complete the trilogy but will likely skim a lot if Henley and Roman’s characters don’t improve. And I am looking forward to Jamie and London’s stories. I hope Arla gets a story too.
Yep that's the best I can do to describe this series. Book 2 was even better than book one. Glass lays it out like a movie for the reader. I can picture the people, the scene, even the look on their faces... just a great series!
So much happens here and I do not want to give a thing away .... gonna keep it short and sweet!
A spoiler free review! This is the second book in a heart-pounding trilogy and I am here for all the angst and the thrills! I absolutely adored this book. The novel picks up immediately where the first ended. I love Henley and Roman so much, and in this book we get to see their relationship blossom. This is a slow-burn romance in the sense that they only get together in this book, so if that’s not for you, then it’s time to move along! Please don’t read this series and then complain because it’s a slow burn, because there are those of us who eat that stuff up. This book has quite a few suspenseful subplots going on, both continuing from the first book and a new plotline, which is that there’s a serial killer in the pack that’s taking people out. Henley is convinced that it has something to do with her red hair and her mysterious “wolfsbane” abilities. This book ends on yet another cliffhanger, and I can’t wait to read the final instalment in this trilogy!
The second book will be the last I read. All the misgivings are magnified in this second book. The plot at first glance sounded interesting, but that’s about it.
The book starts with a murder plot, still the protagonists run around like headless chickens. No one asks questions, why those victims, how the murderer new about them and their connection, how did they break into her place, etc. The list goes on. It is sloppy work.
Instead our lead characters run around only focused on seducing and resisting each other. Not like ruling alphas or people living in the real world being responsible for others. Their growing attraction and eating is all the author shares with us. We are face with teenager hormones that run rampart instead of substance to the story.
And our female leads character is again only busy with herself. Playing the false Martyr and pretending to be responsible and guilty for everything but apparently not interested in doing anything about it. Just live the day and let everyone else take care of her and the problems she believed she created. Running or burying her head in the sand seems to be the motto of this series character. I have yet to find some attributes and actions that are deserving of the attention she is getting. She is so self centred it hurts to read. Even the reader has already figured the plot out while our female lead is still busy with herself.
You own a bar, you sit down and work how to conduct the business properly. But nope, not our female lead, she simply complains when she has to step in because they are understaffed. And again everything revolves around problems with men… It is like they are all 17 years old.
I adored this series, it is so bingeable, I love the characters and the plot so much! I love the friendships and relationships in this series particularly I love the development of Henley and Romans relationship in this book as they still work out their issues and grow into their relationship.
This book follows and directly from the first book and we begin to explore more of Henley’s ... “unique traits” which was so fascinating at the end of the last book. Another thing which I ended the last book hoping to see more in this book was the politics of the world, and you definitely see Henley getting more involved with the downtrodden of society. That through her past experiences she wants to stand up and fight for those who are being abused by current systems and I look forward to her continuing this hopefully in the third book. Speaking of the third book what a cliffhanger! I need that final book because I need answers!
Thank you to the author for an advanced copy of this book but all thoughts and opinions remain my own!
My beating heart has been ripped from the jagged hole in my chest and throw onto the floor! I'm freaking out and don't know what to do with myself!! How could we be left with that ending!? There are so many questions swirling around in my mind. But... despite this, I loved every single moment of this beautiful book!
This was a surprise filled book! We kept getting hit left and right with things that were jaw dropping. The truth was explosive in those last few chapters and I can't stand to wait until the next book releases. Where's my chocolate!?
I love Hen and Romeo. Together they make my heart melt and I'm staunchly choosing them as one of my favorite couples. The chemistry between them is scorching-hot! And I smiled through most of this book. The match of wills is delightfully delicious.
The girl gang in this is solid! They each are a sad bunch, and I'm hoping that we see happy endings for them as well in the conclusion! I love how they have come together and bonded. I want so many things for each of them.
I have so many theories yet to play out... This is one of the most engaging and well written wolf shifter series you'll ever come across! It's addictive and intriguing! One-click this series! It's one that you'll be thinking about long after you have finished reading.
I feel like this book lost the plot a bit. In the literal way. Half of it focused entirely on Henley readying herself to mate with Roman. I still loved the tension as much as I did with book one—the spice was written just the way I liked it; no complaints—but it did get quite repetitive. I don’t wish it was sped up. The slow burn was rewarding. It could, however, have been broken up a bit with the Alphas of All situation, which ended up taking a backseat in this book and didn’t progress very much at all until the last 30%ish when everything happened at once and one ‘wtf’ was revealed after another.
Still an addictive series. I read this book in something like 13 hours.
Another binge worthy book by Lola in her Wolfsbane trilogy!
The story was fast paced and written in a way that kept me fully engaged for every chapter. The plot twists and turns throughout kept me guessing right up until that CLIFF-HANGER OMGGGGGG.
A few things I’m loving in Lola’s writing are that she isn’t rushing the healing process of Henley’s character, pacing it over the books so well, the self love and body confidence that the woman radiate in her work, and that the intolerance of abuse against women is a huge part of this story.
Henley (MC) has some admirable character development in this book, beginning to let people in to the events from her traumatic past and her burdens to understand her more, as well as opening up to her true self in comparison to her coldness (in the form of sass and sarcasm) that we saw in the first book.
Arla, London and Jamie are just the ultimate girl BOSS group that every badass woman needs in their life. Roman is just a hunk of delicious, brooding shifter male (YUM).
The second Wolfsbane book was fast-paced, exciting and quite the escalation from the first!
Henley and Roman have grown considerably, and it was so wonderful to see them finally together. Their individual character progression is immense; Henley is learning to put her trust in Roman, even when she was afraid, and always managed to remind herself that he loved her enough to stick by her. And he did.
“I’ll chase you anywhere. Everywhere. You’re mine, Henley Ellis. If you run, I’ll be right there behind you, enjoying the view.”
Roman himself started prioritising Henley, but not to a point that would put his loyalty to the pack in question. He was devoted to the wolves, but always managed to find time for her and put her needs first when it was needed. They were kind and forgiving toward each other, and their trust was clear between them.
“People with baggage know how to carry heavy sh!t, Hen. I’ve got your back and you’ve got mine. And I think that’s more important than anything.”
The combined romance and mystery upped the intrigue, and was an overall well-paced and action-packed success! The cliffhanger at the end gave us so many shocking answers, and yet sprung up the most urgent questions of all 😳 (Highly recommend the added bonus content of Roman’s Epilogue). Something about Lola’s writing is so addictive, and I’m stoked to see how she wraps up the trilogy 😊

Sigh, another late review and post. I miss the days of being able to post on my “schedule” but things have been so chaotic on my end and I am all sorts of out of whack because of that. BUT, I’m getting this up because holy heck I need to just get my thoughts in order from this whirlwind of a book.
I think it is safe to say that I enjoyed this book a little more than the first. Which, if I’m being honest, is actually rare for me to say. I often find that when I REALLY enjoy the first book in the series the next one just doesn’t quite live up to my expectations. But, Running Beside the Alpha was the gift that kept on giving. And that ending is something that I won’t be recovering from until I get my grubby little hands on the third book.
But yeah, this series is a set of easy and enjoyable reads that you will find yourself needing to binge. And like I already mentioned I need the next book, so as you can see they hook you! So, here’s to me getting this review out because man oh man I had so much to say but also didn’t want to ruing anything. And lets also hope that I finally get some time to sit down and write out all of the reviews floating around in my brain, because I’d like to get them out to you!
You can view my full review on my blog! I also post about a lot of different types of books!
2.5+ stars, but just can’t round it to 3. Slightly better than the first book, maybe? Or maybe I’m just deep enough in this world to like it better? Probably the latter. I don’t actually think the story was better.
This book felt all over the place.
-There are some murders. Henley appears linked to them by her scent, but she’s the only one who knows that until she tells Roman, and no way she’s guilty because she’s way far away when they happen
-Roman wants Henley. Henley wants Roman. Henley’s not ready. They test their limits and back off. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat for 140 pages.
-Henley becomes mega-wealthy overnight when Kyler gives her basically everything he has in New York out of guilt
-Henley goes to the gym a lot so she can learn to fight and defend herself. Plastic Barbie Gym Trainer is there and makes Henley jealous. There are sexytimes in the gym office
-There are sexytimes a whole bunch of places
-Girl bonding time
-Pranks with lingerie (I do love the women in this story)
-Henley’s hair is the cause of all problems, worldwide
-They travel to Georgia, kill the alpha. Travel to Florida, meet a bitter woman.
-Henley starts building her own pack by accident.
-The redheaded Alphas of All act like assholes, play good cop/bad cop, tell Roman he’s been naughty again, while Henley dyes her hair and hides from them.
-The Alphas of All are def not the good guys. Sylvie seems to enjoy a bunch of killing and placing really violent asshats as pack alphas.
-Alphas of All try to force Henley to tell her about all the awful things done to her, and she tells them to play along, covering that they can’t compel her. Roman eavesdrops, betraying Henley’s trust. He breaks a whole bunch of furniture. They make up.
-Nobody ever locks their doors
-Lilac redeems herself
-There’s a chaotic mating ceremony.
-Oh, and Roman fights some people. And then some more. Some die. And grrrrrr he’s growly. He bites throats and then howls.
-And Henley can’t seem to walk between any two locations on her own two feet. Roman carries her everywhere. FYI, it is never pleasant to be tossed over someone’s shoulder. Shoulders dig into the gut something awful.
-The murderer is discovered after, like, no investigation, but he tries to attack Arla and Jamie, but they fight him off.
If you can string all that together in your head, you’re doing better than I. The whole narration was just disjointed. One part didn’t flow into the next. But alas, I will be reading the third. What can I say? I must love to grumble about mediocre shifter books.

Henley Clark is a unique wolf shifter with an ability that is coveted by all of the packs. Her presence in a pack enables them to resist the forced changing into their wolf form. So she has been repeatedly hunted and forced to remain in a pack which usually means she is abused. She escapes and runs, but is invariably captured by the next pack to endure this torture over and over, until she arrives at Roman’s pack and for the first time has choices.
Henley is finally becoming comfortable with her new pack and the healing has begun for her. After being tortured in Ledger’s storm cellar before her rescue, she now absolutely knew that she was done pushing Roman away, even though he gripped her tightly and carried her wherever the group went – even into the diner and later the hotel. Then a series of events and murders start up to raise the tension when Ella’s body was found. Secrets coming from Henley's past and as peek at some unique abilities that are starting to manifest add even more to the mystery of what’s going on now.
The twists and turns in this fantastic story will keep you guessing all the way. Grab your copy and stay with this exciting adventure as Henley keeps her sass and finds out more about herself. Will Roman find the murderer or will the interference of others make things worse and put them all in greater danger?
Lola Glass creates stories that are able to be binged in one day!
Running Beside the Aplha kicks off right in and amongst the action from the ending of book one. The best thing about Lola’s writing is how she can suck you into the world, rattle your emotions and leave everything on a FRICKEN CLIFFHANGER that has you craving more.
Our MC Henley is werewolf I want to be friends with but also don’t want to cross. She comes into her own in this book, literally. We learn more about her story as she opens up to Roman and her friends, and we learn again just how much their love for each other is a catalyst for everything.
My favourite aspect of this book is how Roman is devoted to his pack, but when Henley needs him he doesn’t come running. He lets her handle everything up to the point that when she wants him, he then comes swooping in. Yes, he is also this super hot, built like a quarterback, fine hunk of a man but he is also kind and compassionate towards all the females in this book.
I cannot wait for book 3! I need to know how this all ends, and I need my werewolf pack to come out on top.
Ever since Henley joined the New York Pack strange murders have been occurring. There are no clues as to who has been committing the murders, except the victims smell like Henley. Henley, Roman and their friends are determined to find out what's going on and how it is all connected to Henley. But the answers they find, they don't like.
Running Beside the Alpha was a great second instalment to this trilogy and I need the next one now! This series is binge-worthy. And OMG the ending!
It was great to see Henley and Romans relationship grow stronger. Lola is a queen at writing steamy as hell sex scenes between these two.
The girl gang is awesome and it is great to see a group of girls move past their differences and just be friends! Watching the girls help each other out with what they having going on is great!
I can't wait for the next one to come out. There were so many bomb shells that I need to know now!! I'm excited to see how Henley and Roman deal with the massive obstacles coming their way.
I received and ARC, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
After the Alphas of All finished off the Colorado pack, they threatened to visit Henley in NY soon. Before Henley, Roman and their friends get home, a packmate is murdered while, Roman struggles with the mate pull as Henley fears he’ll learn about her past. The AoA arrive with questions and Roman learns things Henley wishes he didn’t as murders continue.
Looking for the murderer pulls Henley and Roman and their friends into a mystery with implications Henley doesn’t want to face and Roman can’t bear. After succumbing to Roman’s charms, Henley gains unexpected new powers. Looking through the past leads to shocking and surprising answers while Henley’s growing powers take a turn.
An outing with a slightly intriguing plot but unfortunately not intriguing enough to suit this reader especially with filler threads featuring illogical and silly Henley’s back and forth; juveniles pretending to be adults and; the insipid AoA thing (apparently powerful and feared, obviously not scent) wove into a rambling longer than necessary nearly pointless read. Rating: 2.75stars
I love indie authors. They take risks and create. Putting their work out for the world to digest—then asking for a review.
Well, l’ve enjoyed books 1 & 2 of the Wolfsbane Series. The werewolf stories tend to follow the “insta-love” storyline. This series artfully avoids it, but (and this is a criticism) gets a bit lost in the heroine’s abusive past-to the point that as a reader I felt she would be best served with professional help.
What I liked and what I felt was missed opportunities were the character development of the secondary characters. We are introduced to so many characters and given peeks into their respective back stories, but 2 books in and we don’t know more than the brief glimpses. The character development we have is based on the 2ndary characters’ relationship with our heroine.
This minor criticism aside, I enjoyed Ms. Glass’ writing style and her world building. I will definitely continue reading this series.
I enjoyed the mystery in this volume. OMG, Ella and Zack! Who’s the mole and is he/she the one who committed the crimes?
Werewolf males react strongly to Henley as unlike the other females, she doesn’t go into heat just once a year but has sporadic menses. This makes her practically irresistible as she seems to give off an aura of being perpetually in heat. Things take a dire turn when it's discovered that she is influencing unmated males beyond just wanting to have sex with her.
There are several ugly confrontations with other packs and the Alphas of All keep showing up to reprimand Roman. Henley is keeping her pink hair hidden to prevent them from realizing she may be one of them. Can’t remember if it was this book or the next but she is finally outed. She could never have imagined the next phase of her life.
Because of these books I have not written a word a page for my dissertation. The book is so good I can put it down and I happen to pick up the series when all three were published so that also did not help me. This book is good at the main character grows more as a person while she’s growing others around her is growing as well they are coming to understand who they are and hell they can become better people. I also like the sad stories that are put in with her friends and talking about the relationship that they are Going through. The basis of this book is more of her discovering who she is trying to figure out why she has the pink hair and really realizing the effect that she has on a pack.
I read the Wolbane series by new to me author Lola Glass after seeing it pop up as an Amazon suggestion. When starting new authors you never know what the book will be like but all of the Wolfbane books were fantastic and I was hooked, reading the entire trilogy in less than two days.
The main characters Henley and Roman are well thought out and l also love the other characters in the book too. I liked how the author explained a couple of her writing choices in the appendix it gave insight into the process which was great. The plot was good and evolved over the three books rather than repeating.
Overall a great read with complex characters that you don't want to leave at the end. Bring on those two novellas you hinted at Lola!
I have to say that I am really loving this series! I love the relationship between Roman and Henley. The way they have grown and changed is just phenomenal. I love the storyline, so many things happening that were unexpected and made it so I could not put the book down and stayed up way too late to finish it! I'm listening to the book on Audible while reading the ebook, and I'm really glad I have the audible book because I stayed up so late that my eyes were getting blurry so it was a good thing I could just listen to the ending. I think the voice actor is doing a great job bringing the characters to life. I'm really enjoying these books and I'm so excited to read/listen to the next one.
I like the characters, I like the plot, I like the setting. The author did a good job in that respect. BUT…. The whining and the complaining and the constant self depreciation this woman’s constantly mutters is endless and annoying. Everything’s her fault, everything goes back to her trauma, it’s just constant. It’s annoying. It’s exhausting to read. I probably skipped about a third of the book and I didn’t notice story wise. Still on the fence about if I will start the next book. I do want to see what happens next but I am not sure my nerves can take it. 😂
The first book had me hitting and reading so fast. This was no different. I love the drama and the characters. They’re so complex. Not perfect, flawed. At times it was almost too much with how not everything went Hen’s way. I think the stretch and addition on Alphas of All was cool.
I didn’t mention it in the last review and I should have, but there’s a HELL ton of errors. If I didn’t love this series so damn much, the book would be a 3-star rating because of how bad the editing is. But I love the book so much that I just highlight and move on. Obviously I even forgot to mention the errors in the first installment.
Cliffhanger ending... whew I hate cliffhangers but rest assured the third book is already out so no need to write home about cliffhangers.
Book two see Roman and Henley finally come into their own together learning to trust each other, Henley still struggles a lot with her trauma from her past which is totally acceptable she's been through a hell of a lot. I loved the whole mystery around the murders and the twist of how they all smelt like Henley you started to question if Henley was somehow involved but she wasn't aware of it. you are left guessing right up until the end and then bam your hit with the cliffhanger.... So so good though definitely get your hands on this series asap.
This book was better written than the previous book in this series. There's still some paragraphs that have serious sentences structure. They are missing connecting words that actually make them a sentence. There's still the issue of an odd paragraph that seems to belong in a totally unrelated book or article. However on the whole it's much better editing than the previous book but then again sections of that one were like someone on serious medication wrote them. The characters are much better defined. They are more relatable and therefore more likeable. Which made it easier to read.
