Wolfsbane #3

Running with the Pack

Rate this book
Never run from your mate. So there’s a name for what I am. Ruby Wolf. And apparently, the rules don’t really apply to us. For one, we come in pairs. The other half of mine is a douche named Ezra, and he’s convinced that walking around naked is all it will take to talk me into choosing him. If we don’t mate, I’ll die. Period. End of story. But I won’t betray Roman like that, so I’m dying slowly and painfully. Until he goes and signs up for the trials that can make him like me. The trials no one has survived in more than a hundred years. Things are pretty much a mess, but that’s not new. I’ve survived worse. And if I don’t, well, the last few months of happiness were worth everything and more. *This new adult paranormal romance is recommended for mature readers.

The series has five books but I only read three of them. Book four and five are spinn offs with other Female leads, who we already get to know in the main series.

The review is about all three books and will be copied to the other books to.

I liked the main and side characters. Henley is a wolf who prevents other wolves from shifting. She was used and abused for this ability after her mum and her pack was killed, when she was eight years old. She was taken by a pack and they held her until another pack would kidnap her and so on. But finally she could free herself and went to New York to live under the radar. That worked out good, until she is found by the alpha of the New York pack. But he is different. Instead of abusing her, he offers her to become a member of his pack, protect her and even pays money for staying for a year. Henley agrees.

The first three books are about Henley and Roman. How she meets her mate but do not want to mate him, because she has a lot of insecurities. A lot of strange things are happening and her abilities differ from the abilities of the other wolves. Henley and Roman investigate a series of death. Which lead to more questions about Henley's heritage. And then they found out what she is and that she has to mate the only other wolf who is like her, but he is a jerk and abuser.
She fights for her survival even though she is deadly ill. And Roman fights along with her.

I liked the series, and it was a solid three stars read for me. I liked how the other female wolfs drew Henley out of her shell and became good friends to her. She managed to build a chosen family.

What a fabulous conclusion to the trilogy! I absolutely loved every pulse-pounding page. There’s a lot of drama and suspense in this book. I love how this series is a slow-burn, with the hero and heroine only getting together later on, but there’s no silly things breaking them up. There are genuinely large obstacles keeping them apart, but they still don’t lose their unwavering faith and love for each other as they fight these challenges.
I adore the world that Lola Glass has created, and I can’t wait to check out her novellas and her other trilogy–this one featuring Roman and Henley’s daughter!

Desperately needs a good editor

I really liked the concept behind the books. I haven’t read anything else like them, so bravo on that.

The first book was good. I appreciated Roman’s sensitivity to Henley’s past. I enjoyed watching the family that she created with these characters.

The second book got a little dicey. I think it dragged on longer than it should have. The twists still don’t completely make sense. It was just okay.

The third book. Oh boy. (Spoiler alert). If Henley’s condition was driving the males in the New York pack mad.....why weren’t the females in the Ruby pack driven mad by Ezra? Kyler wasn’t even in the pack anymore, and he went nuts. So this was the first thing that made no sense. The book dragged on. So much of it was put together too quickly and didn’t make any sense. I stopped reading at 48%, and then I just skimmed the rest.

The first book is absolutely worth the read. The second one was even okay. This one just seemed lost. As some have pointed out, there were a lot of errors. They don’t bother me that much....but it makes me wonder if there was an editor involved. Give all three of these books to a good editor, and I think they would be out of this world.

Great series

I feel like this series could be extended. Alot of things were tied up in this book but I feel like so much more is still left in Roman and Henley's story along with the supporting cast.

Emotional ending to this trilogy! Fantastic finale!

Glass stuck true to herself throughout this entire series! Exceptional character building! Explosive storyline! Shocking turn of events! Perfect MC/FMC!

Really patting myself on the back for picking this series up. I have loved each book! Roman and Henley were perfectly crafted. Backstories, emotional ties, and their interaction with each other was impeccable. There is not a thing I would change in this series.

Loved this!

Happy reading,

Everything I wanted and more!

I cannot believe that Henley's and Roman's story has come to an end. I could read a dozen more books about my two favourite werewolves.

Running with the Pack picks up right after Running with the Alpha. Instantly you are thrown into a high stakes plot as Roman tries to become a Ruby Wolf.
My goodness, I was on the edge of my seat. Every trial had me panicking, and every scene had me either wanting to throw the book or hold it close to protect my character's I'd grown to love.

As usual, Lola's writing was amazing! She has a way with words that make you feel like you are there for everything. The worldbuilding could've used a bit more but I wasn't concerned about what the buildings look like, only what was happening within them and damn a lot was happening. From coops to dancing, the pace was astounding.

The strong females are still in this book (London, Jamie and Arla) and they rally when they are called. I cannot get over how Lola made their friendship integral to the plot, and I really believe that more books need to have this relationship between their female groups. And Connor! Ahh, I need a sequel of him and Jamie. I neeeeed it!

Overall, this ended exactly how I wanted it too and the bonus at the end! Ahh, everyone needs to read this.

Thank you so much Lola for letting me be on your ARC team and I cannot wait to read what you write next x

Thisis the third book in this series and had me not he edge of my seat quite literally form the start to the very end. I swear I spent more time yelling at it then I did reading.

I am in LOVE with this author and her words. She captivates you as a reader and throws you into a story that leaves you salivating for more. She is absolutely a PNR queen and I can't wait to see what she writes next.

This novel was PERFECTION and I cannot wait for the Novellas that she has planned as well as her next release.

Complex and entangling, this read is emotional and thrilling form the start to the very end.

Overall 3.75 to 4 stars for the series.

The MFC Henley annoyed me. Although I understood her trust issues, it was a bit much and the author harped on a bit too much to the point Henley became an annoying gnat at times. The MMC Roman was a bit overbearing. But in the end I read the whole series and the spinoffs. The first spinoff between Jamie and Oliver I really enjoyed.

Wow! What an epic conclusion to this debut series. Running with the Pack in the final installment of the Wolfsbane trilogy and honestly I have loved every minute.

This book really focuses on Henley and Roman’s relationship. After the big reveal at the end of the last book that Henley is a ruby wolf and needs to mate with another ruby in order to survive I was so worried about what this book would entail.

Henley is as strong and sassy as ever in this book and her determination to never give in is one of my favourite things about her. I adore that she is so independent yet has a soft side for those she loves. Roman really gets a chance to grow throughout this book. He has always been progressive and kind but this book truly shows his love and devotion for Henley and his family.

The Wolfsbane trilogy is filled with charismatic and lovable side characters. The girls : Jamie, Arla and London and the boys: Oliver and Kyler all make appearances in the finale and my only criticism is that I wanted more for these characters*. Every character has an interesting and at times complicated story and I just need to know everything!

There is a real focus on family and healing throughout this series and in this book Henley, along with her found family (a great trope!), comes to terms with the trauma of her past and embraces her future all while remaining her authentic, pizza loving self.

Running with the Pack is definitely the darkest book in the series but Glass handles it with finesse and it really adds to the story line. It is at times confronting and readers that are sensitive to attempted sexual violence should read with caution. I thought the use of violence was well done and really allowed Glass to explore the true evilness of particular characters.

The Wolfsbane Trilogy is a well executed series with wonderful characters, plot with just the right amount of romance, steam and violence! Perfect for lovers emotional plots, incredible characters and spicy shifters! I can’t wait to see what Lola Glass comes up with next.

* Lola has just announced novellas for Jamie and most likely London and I cannot tell you how excited I am!!!! I am firmly a member of the Jamie and Oliver fan club.

Well, good news. I didn’t hate Henley in this book as much as I did the last one. The storyline was solid. There were definitely some surprises. Henley is back with her birth pack, the Ruby Pack. Everyone is trying desperately to get her to mate with Ezra. Apparently, a ruby wolf has to mate with another ruby wolf. The problem is, she’s mated to Roman and won’t betray him like that, even if it means she dies. She finds out a little more about her mother but has a hard time warming up to her father, Hansen. Roman is participating in the trials that no one in over 2 generations has survived. If he makes it through all 9 of the trials, he will become a Ruby Wolf.

I admit, Henley is a better person than I because, given everything she found out about Sylvie’s machinations behind the scenes, and Ezra’s behavior, I would have gone scorched earth on that entire pack. Quite frankly, I’d decimate the pack, I don’t care what happens to Hansen or any of the others for that matter. Don’t tell me he didn’t know half the shit his mate was up to. As far as I’m concerned, she’s breathing air someone else could be breathing. I guess it’s a good sign when a book can get you that emotional, right?

The overarching storyline in this trilogy is top notch and world building was rich and had depth. I just had some huge problems with character development. I came very close to not finishing the 2nd book because I found Henley so unlikeable. While I’m glad the author rewrote Roman’s character to be more benevolent than she had cast him originally, it was almost too much in the middle book of the trilogy. He came across as weak and has little to no control over his emotions. That didn’t bear much resemblance to the strong, but kind alpha of the first book. I fell in love with our couple in that book, but things went sideways from the very beginning of the 2nd book.

Would I still recommend this series? Yes. It goes against your everyday run of the mill wolf shifter tropes, and the supporting characters are very interesting. I can’t wait to dive into Jamie and London’s stories. I would caveat that you might want to have a drink (or 10) when reading the 2nd book, cuz you’re gonna need it.

A wonderful conclusion to Henley and Roman's story! We pick up right where we left off in book two. Henley has found out what she is- a ruby wolf. And they apparently come in pairs. Her supposed mate is a total jerk named Ezra, who thinks walking around naked is a good way to win her over. And if they don't mate, Henley will die. But she can't even think of betraying Roman like that, and is now dying slowly. Meanwhile, Roman has signed up for the trials that could let him become a ruby. These aren't any kind of simple trials though, and no one has survived them in over a century. Things are a mess, but that's nothing new for Roman and Henley.

I loved this so much! I loved that we got to meet some of Henley's family and learn more about her and what being a ruby means. There's so many layers to the plot, and there's never a dull moment. The trials Roman was going through were intense, and so was everything else happening around them. I loved the focus on healing, for so many of the characters! And the theme of family, blood and chosen. Both Roman and Henley had such good development in this book. Henley really worked on healing, and becoming the leader she was born to be. And Roman is just so loving and supportive, with a great streak of sass. I loved seeing some of my favorite side characters more too! Everyone's stories are so interesting, and I'd read more books for all of them!
And I still love the way shifters work in this series! It's such a unique take, and I loved getting even more of that. This one was definitely the most intense, and had some of the darkest moments. But it's well balanced with moments to breathe, and of course some steamy scenes. And a nice dose of humor!

If you like paranormal romance, shifters, fast-paced plots, strong female leads, sexy broody alpha males, strong female friendships, and books that can make you laugh, cry, and need a cold shower- then you need to read these!! I absolutely can't wait to read more from Lola Glass!!

4.5🌟 Alright, let me just take a minute to fangirl over this freaking epic trilogy and congratulate beautiful Lola on creating such a masterpiece for her debut! I will literally read anything this amazing lady writes!

This book literally had sooo many well executed elements; the plot, the amazing main and side characters and all their layers, and just the right amount of steam and violence!

I love the focus on family and healing in this book especially, and Henley accepting her past, her trauma, and knowing that she’s finally found those she can hold close, trust and be herself. I adored her embracing her role as a leader and that despite her development, she is still just as sassy and pizza loving!

Roman is such a great character with his brooding personality, strength, loyalty, utter respect for women and his protectiveness for his family and pack. I loved his character arc and development; he’s such a perfect match with Henley!

Despite all the books having your shifter violence and disputes, this was certainly the darkest book in terms of characters evilness being drawn out. There are some confronting scenes and disgusting revelations which just added to the PUNCH of this story.

The only part to this story I can fault is that I would’ve liked the writing to be a little more descriptive, maybe with a little more as to how the characters were feeling during certain events and for the events to play out a little bit longer (one or two pages), just as a personal preference.

If you enjoy shifter novels with a snarky and strong female MC, serious sexy and brooding males and gorgeously badass and loyal female friends, mixed into an emotional tale of healing, acceptance and self-discovery with some STEAMYYYYYY scenes, this trilogy is for you!

Well, this book certainly took me on a journey! I knew going into it that this story could only end in one of two ways but I honestly didn’t know which ending would get or how we would get there. And my god was it a journey to get there! I had so many emotions when reading this book. There were so many times when reading it that I honestly didn’t know what was going to happen and if we were going to get the outcome that I was hoping for. It was the perfect conclusion to the trilogy. it had everything that I could have hoped for. Drama, suspense, jeopardy, romance, action, friendships. It was great. I will admit that there were a few times when reading this one that I did feel like the story was dragging a little bit, but that is often the case the books. Thankfully it didn’t impact me enjoyment of the book to much

While reading this book I was impressed by how much the characters have grown and developed throughout this series. The main character Henley has evolved so much. she has learnt to let her walls down and let love into her life. She has started to let go of her fear and heal from the horrors of the past. It’s been an amazing transformation. And she isn’t the only one who has grown as a character. I just wasn’t expecting to get to witness so much character growth in this trilogy but I am so glad that I did. I also loved getting to see the story getting much more complex as the books went on. the world has expanded so much and honestly, is Glass does decide to write more books, I am all on board for it! I feel like there is still so much story left in these characters and this world

A gazillion stars for this steamy and sensational trilogy! From the very first book, I knew that I'd been given a wolf shifter series that I'd never forget and would want to re-read many times over. This conclusion had my heart firmly gripped and didn't let go. I was feeling so many things and this ending gave me everything I could've wanted and more! This is a series that you'll get frustrated with, you'll shed tears for, that you'll fall for and sing its praises. It's so well written with a plot that packs a punch. And it'll give you one heckuva book hangover!

I have to say the typical thing here. The expected thing here. We all need a man like Roman in our lives. He is the ultimate book boyfriend and he's so beautifully complicated and so well fleshed out. There wasn't one moment where I didn't cheer him on. He has a heart bigger than the universe and a determined will that saves the day.

Henley is pure entertainment! Her snark and feisty nature makes her a girl that you'll cheer for and feel a need to see her find a forever home. She's been through so many horrible nightmares and she's toughened up. It's not easy for her to tear down her walls and it's only that persistence of Roman and the pack that can break through. She blossoms because of love and acceptance and this is a truly a story of her finding her destiny and going for it.

If you love shifters, kick ass females and hero's who won't back down, this is for you! One-click this unputdownable series. You'll thank me later!

4.5 stars!!!

Running From the Pack picks up a month after Running Beside the Alpha. Henley is living with the Ruby Pack after Roman leaving her there to 'mate' with another ruby wolf (her inherited mate) and save her life. Obviously, thats not what happens. Henley is her usual stubborn self and would rather die than mate with Ezra (And I can't say I blame her!) Henley has to figure out how to survive and get Roman back after he left her with the Rubies. But Roman has his own trials he is facing.

Oh My God! What a conclusion to this trilogy! In true Lola fashion, we get steamy sex scenes, found family, awesome female friendships, strong female and male leads and a whirlwind of emotions!

I loved that we got to meet Henleys family and learn what it means to be a ruby wolf and what it means to be an Alpha of All. Seeing Henley let herself heal from her past and grow and strive for the future she is determined to get was so amazing. Healing was a major theme, and it wasn't just Henley and Roman who were doing it. New characters and the side characters we have grown to love are all healing and overcoming obstacles they are faced with.

There was so much action and we also took a darker turn than the previous 2 books. Witnessing what jealousy and power can do when they are put in the wrong hands. But its okay, everyone got the ending they deserved!

I only wish there was more to come! Maybe about Oliver and Jamie? Because I love those two and am definitely a part of their fan club along with Roman and Henley!

The only cure for her fatal sickness is to have her mate with a Ruby wolf so that he can heal her. But she’s already committed to Roman and she refuses to break her bond with him.

The Ruby pack members are willing to to do whatever it takes to keep her alive—even if it means mating her to a Ruby male against her will.

Roman is determined to save his mate no matter what the costs—even if it means risking his own life. Can Henley and Roman race the clock and outsmart the Ruby pack to find their forever love?

Fabulous end to such an amazing trilogy!

I loved watching these characters grow from the first book through to this one they have changed so much over the course of these three books, and not just the main characters but our core secondary characters as well. As they embrace their found family as well as learned so much about themselves .It was interesting to see Henley where she is struggling with her physical strength, you just get to see her stubbornness and her sass and her mental strength come through so much more.

After such a cliffhanger from the end of the second book I was highly anticipating this book, I was slightly disappointed that everything was wrapped up with that cliffhanger pretty quickly. I think that was kind of what brought my rating for this final book, in the book was split into sections where the characters deal with a specific situations and then move onto the next problem and the next. It was almost like the emotional impact of the last problem wasn’t brought over to the next.

However, I still loved this book and and these characters will remain with me, I can’t quite believe this series is already over I could read so much more about these characters but I am forward to seeing what Lola Glass writes next!

Wow.

First of all, I didn’t expect to like, read or finish this book. I hate love triangles, I hate adding a second guy to create tension and I basically didn’t read book two after getting the premise.

I started this book expecting to skim and skip it and once again, this author grabbed me with her faithful, even cadence and great heroine. I like Henley. And I LOVE that she didn’t cave even a fraction to Ezra. Granted, he was appalling but she held onto her integrity and loyalty under great pressure.

Roman continued to be great- a total alpha without being a jerk or domineering. He listened and respected. Every. Single. Time.

It really makes me kind of rethink the alpha jerk genre where obsessed and possessive get so domineering. This author does a great job.

And once again, I like the secondary characters- I got interested in Roman’s sister, London, and Jamie and their guys and the sisterhood. I’m tempted to go back and read book 2 just to find out the bet they’re paying off.

There were a few eye snags, editing wise and the pace is slow. Roman and Henley are flying all over and dealing with stuff and the trials, etc, but I like the alternating of quiet moments even though it interrupts a build-up to a climax pace.

What an absolutely perfect finale 😭

Everything I wanted and more happened in this book. It had the most heartwarming ending, with the characters we met in book 1 completely transformed.

“Laying in bed wrapped in your soulmate’s arms, talking. Laughing. Loving. And knowing with a certainty that loneliness was your past, not your future.”

Henley was always headstrong, brave and smart. While she is still all of those things, she found a new strength in learning to love and be loved by a family she chose. A life of consistent betrayals by those who were supposed to love her, of fear and cruelty, she decided it was time to give herself a chance at happiness.
Choice was always the running theme with these books. Whenever she thought there was something she couldn’t or wouldn’t face, she didn’t run, she didn’t resort back to her instincts of self-preservation, no. She fought for what she was finally finding joy in, and then continued the fight to keep it.
The shifter romance was phenomenal, paced really well both throughout book3 and the entire trilogy, and there was always action and drama to keep us entertained.

Congratulations on a brilliant trilogy Lola!

TWs: rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment, drugs, needles/syringes, miscarriage

This book was a really great third instalment of the series. The ruby wolf business added a new element and changed things up a bit while also keeping the best part of the previous two books. While I thought the mating obsession kind of took over in book 2, the balance in book 3 was a big improvement.

“Your dad and Joel didn’t say you had to go alone with him”. Nineteen pages earlier… ”And then go to dinner with him. Just the two of you.” A bit of a flaw in continuity and in a small frame of time as well.

I thought the trials were interesting but I was a bit confused how Henley and Roman could mate before Roman had finished with them. When the trials first came up, it gave the impression that it wasn’t possible at all for a normal werewolf to mate with a ruby wolf so I’m not sure why this was an exemption. It almost seemed like Roman became a ruby wolf before he’d survived the trials.

This book was very dark. A lot of death and murder. I won’t lie, it was confronting at times, so know what you’re going into.

Otherwise, I very much enjoyed reading this series.

I'm happy with this trilogy ending! I love Roman so much, did the entire time. Henley had quite a bit of growth over the series and while I'll never totally love her I admired her dedication to Roman in this book. She finally put up a fight for him. It was about time!

The main thing I didn't like about Henley, and just about all of the female characters in this book, was their selfishness. I suppose the author was trying to write up strong feminist, but to me it came across as immature bitchiness.

- You better not look at another woman but I'm going to strut around in front of the world in my underwear because I can.
- No you can't be near me to keep our babies safe, they're mine and I don't want you around.
- I'm going to wear a dress that shows off my whole body to everyone, completely disrespecting your wishes, at our mating party where I tell everyone how much I love you.

How anyone could ever be in a relationship with these types of women is beyond me. The kind that want their mate to care for them completely and worship them but won't give any respect back because "nobody's going to tell me what to do."

Okay, I’m confused. Ezra will die if Henley doesn’t mate with him. Is there a time or age limit before this occurs? What if she’d never been found? Would he still die? I agree with Roman and Henley - if the village females are so enamored with him why doesn’t at least one of them attempt the trials? Who dreamed up the trials and what’s the point of making them so deadly? Seems like the ruby's are uber elitist. What makes them so special? Their power seems to be primarily detrimental considering what Henley inadvertently does to unmated males and how the Alphas of All annihilate individuals or entire packs. Someone needs to bring them down a peg.

Henley rejects Ezra and physically suffers from this decision. Roman undergoes the trials to become a ruby male to prevent her certain death. Some ugly truths come to light.

Their lives will never be the same even if they achieve success.

This series. I became SO emotionally invested in Henley's story, I cannot even tell you how much I loved this whole series. This final book ripped my heart out once again and built it back up in the best possible way. I adored how deep the devotion truly went between the two main characters. I loved how even as Henley found herself thrust into a position of great power and influence, she refused to compromise her morals or integrity, and made sure she used her position only to help others. Once again, she was mistreated by those who wished to use her for her birthright, but the found family she'd come to find in the New York pack and the members she brings in from her own birth family created a powerhouse of support and love that helped her, and by extension, Roman, find the strength to fight for their own survival and true love. This book made me cry, laugh, clutch my Kindle so hard I thought I might crack it, and then cry with the happiest of tears. This story touched my heart and I cannot thank Lola Glass enough for that. The promise of a spin-off series is the BEST added bonus and I am 100% here for it.

This is the explosive ending for this series and it will “knock your socks off”!

Henley has at last discovered that she is a “ruby wolf”. Ruby wolves come in pairs, and her alleged mate is a jerk named Ezra. If she refuses to mate with Ezra, Henley will die a painful death. Roman does not deserve the betrayal of her mating Ezra, so she will not do it. She would rather die than ever betray Roman.

Because Roman cares for Henley so much, he is going to try to make things work. Roman has signed up for the trials that could let him become a ruby wolf like Henley is. The issue is that these trials are not simple and straightforward. No one in the past 100 years has survived them! Will Roman pass the trials? Will he become a ruby wolf for Henley? Or will he lose his life for the woman he loves?

This is so intense as Roman goes through this. After all they have already been through, it seems impossible that it isn’t over and he’ll have to do more! Grab your copy and follow him through the testing. They deserve happiness – but will he survive to make her his?

I really enjoyed this series and am sad that it has ended. I read all three books consecutively over the course of three days. When I read the afterthought of the first novel, it made me realize that the reason I loved this series so much was because Roman’s character was everything that an alpha male should be. Oftentimes, shifter romance novels romanticize possessive and often unhealthy behavior in men. There’s usually no growth for the characters and if the woman is strong then that strength plays second fiddle to the strength of her partner. This series was different. Not only did they describe one another as equals in every way, but the characters truly were equals. They were partners who stood up for each other and communicated. They grew into their relationship in a way that more romance novels should adopt. I appreciated that Roman was hyper aware of not wanting to force Henley into doing anything and I adored how loving and supportive the characters were of one another. Highly recommend!

Best of 3

I usually enjoy Lola Glass books but the first book in this series was so bad that if I hadn't read other series of hers and enjoyed them I wouldn't have made it to this third book in the Wolfsbane books.
The book is better written than the previous two books. There's much better editing ,sentence structure and the characters are much more likeable. I can whole heartedly state just skip the first book and maybe the second one and start the series here. If none of the characters grab you in this book then this series is not for you. Don't waste time on books that don't hook you in straight away . Maybe just start with the middle of a series because by then the author usually has all the jitters and kinks ironed out. If you don't like a particular series don't give up on the author completely. Some authors do more than one type of genre series. Read what you like.
