The first is a sort of prequel and begins with Walsh decking a priest, unfortunately on camera. He returns to his station to be suspended but as he is leaving he is approached by a DCI who quickly tells him she wants to use him on a case. (view spoiler) The book ends with him being told that his father (a retired cop) has died in an accident.

Into the next book and he has been transferred to Temple Inn Crime Unit (Last Chance Saloon) under DCI Monroe who worked with his father in the past. When he goes to the house he inherits from his father he finds a hidden room where his father has kept files of his cases and is working on a memoir, Did this get him killed in the accident? The case involves the death of the wife of an MP as a letter she wrote at the time comes to light.

I am really enjoying the series, but think they definitely need to be read in order. They are a bit on the gritty side but I would certainly recommend them.

This a good box set. liked it so much I have started on the next (books 4-6).
Must admit, I like this way of reading them as there is always a cliffhanger at the end of each book, as well as a solid end to the actual incidents of that particular book (if you get what I mean).
The cliffhanger automatically drags me to the next box set, which I suppose must be both a good marketing strategy but of course that in itself would be useless if the writing/storytelling wasn't first class.

More thrills than a roller coaster

Great series starter and each book ends with a cliffhanger that leads you right into the next. There are so many plot twists that other than Declan Walsh you are never quite sure who the good guys are. I sure hope that this is fiction and not based on real life politics and policing or we are all in trouble.

Hide Out

Very involved cases keep you rereading passages because you have a hard time believing it. This author is not shy about killing off characters and changing the story lines. Great series .
