Dragon Shifter Dominion #1

Passion of the Summer Dragon

Rate this book
I’m not supposed to fall for a dragon shifter—especially when we mix like fire and water!

I’ve always been told to avoid dragon shifters. They’re dangerous. They supposedly rule over our people, but I’ve never met one so what would I know? I’ve only been told what to think.

When I finally do meet one, I see what people mean: Yes, he’s dangerous . . . dangerously sexy. I’m drawn to him even though he’s arrogant and aggressive.

When we’re sent on the same mission as competitors and our lives become entwined in more ways than one, I wonder if our strange bond will bring us together . . . or if it’ll get us killed.

If you enjoy paranormal romance with enemies to lovers, fated mates, and a whole heap of action, steam, and humor, one-click today!

This series will eventually evolve into a why choose series, but this book is between a smoldering alpha male and a tough heroine only.

KC Kingmaker lives in San Diego and has been writing and reading fantasy and romance for years.

"Briarwitch Academy" was KC’s first foray into paranormal romance, trying to bridge the genres to make something steamy, funny, mysterious, action-packed, and most of all, fun!

"Dragon Shifter Dominion" came after, trying to meld that same steaminess with traditional fantasy, to create a romantic fantasy explosion!

"Shadowblade Academy," KC’s third series, is technically a spin-off of Briarwitch Academy, though it can be read as a standalone series. It has just as much intrigue and mystery and steam as the others, but things get a bit darker.

"Camelot Untold," KC’s fourth series, is a deep, dark dive into the rich lore of Arthurian legends. It’s reverse harem fantasy romance.

"Robin Hood and Her Merciless Men" is KC’s fifth series, and another spicy, dark retelling of an iconic legend.

Levia Sunfall runs a shelter for abused women with her best friend Blythe Telvis. It's during such "business" that she runs into Coalt Firesworn for the first time.

Although they don't exchange a word, there seems to be a special attraction building between them.

As fate would have it, both of them get sent on the same quest and are forced to work together all while fighting what they feel for each other. Will they beat the odds and get what they want? Or will something stand in the way of their happiness?

I love this.

It might seem like a romance book at first glance, and okay, there's definitely a lot of that, BUT...the plot is really cool too.

DON'T LET THE FACT THAT THE LOVE INTEREST IS A DRAGON SHIFTER PUT YOU OFF, IT WORKS, TRUST ME.

I think there's a nice balance, so readers who like a bit more romance will like this, and so will those who like interesting plots.

Levia running the shelter was a different take. I don't think I've ever seen that? And her own experience with men...hard topics there. She opens up more about it as the story goes on and I really feel for her.

COALT. AHEM. I can't even form coherent thoughts. Just know that they're really cute together. I ship it. AND THE STEAM!!!

Now now now now now, THAT ENDING WHAT? YOU CAN'T LEAVE ME HANGING LIKE THAT NAH. THAT'S SO MEAN.

I was expecting something like that, because of the locket, but come onnnn, why torture us? :((

So I would say read this now if you don't mind cliffhangers - but read it now anyway so I have someone to suffer with until the next book.

Honourable mention: the funny lines, much much much appreciated.

*Thank you to the lovely author for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review*

Entertaining... But nothing new or special...
I'm already predicting that this will be a RH serie, so I'm stopping here.

Levia lived in a poor town all her life. She didn’t have the best childhood. Now she helps abused women and their children escape their situations. She moves them to her rundown childhood home to keep them safe. She runs the shelter with her best friend that shes known since she was living on the streets as a teenager. In this first book in the series she accepts a job to raise money to fix up the shelter. Along the way she meets a mysterious stranger who also accepted the same job. There is lots of competition to retrieve this item. She’s strongly attracted to this stranger as is he. They slowly fall in love. Did I mention he’s a dragon? They face lots of obstacles, danger and secrets. There are lots of details. That’s one of the reasons I enjoy reading this authors books. Can’t wait to read the next part of the story.

This book was painfully predictable and the writing was so immature and childish imo. I don’t dnf books but if I did I would have stopped reading it by chapter 3 at the latest. The main characters have very little depth to them. Levia is a street rat that’s traumatized and Coalt (“not like the baby horse but Coal with a T“🙄) is basically a big dick. Both his personality and physically. I cannot believe how often his “appendage” just flopped around. And how often the FMC got all hot and bothered just because he looked at her. Both MCs narratives were so cringy so switching POVs gave me no respite.
The premise/plot had promise, but overall was just poorly written. It was rough to get through and even with the cliffhanger I won’t be reading the next book.

I'll start this review with a TRIGGER WARNING. This book contains references of domestic violence so please be aware.

I'm not a PNR reader, I don't do 'shifters', I don't know what 'Fae' means but I really loved this book! My usual book is much more human and much less dragon but this really worked for me; there's a strong story line, good main characters, quality supporting cast, definite follow up books, skinny dipping, stale muffins, sausages for breakfast, a horse called Franny and an old Fae in a tree, what more could you want in a book?

KC Kingmaker has written a world of Scaled Dragon Shifters and Unscaled non-shifting people. Our female lead is Unscaled and a protector of women abused by men. With her sidekick and sister she attracts the attention of the Scaled male lead who and they find themselves inexplicably drawn to each other, although manage to stay away from each other. But can they stay away from each other for the whole book????

The secondary cast is an amazing hodgepodge of characters; I can't begin to imagine how they would look on a story board! From Blythe the sidekick sister to Jasent the bartender, from Chief Garnu to Fernus who gets thanked for everything, from Vera to Vero; there are just so any great personalities and characters to find. I did notice that I gave the Forest Fae Irish accents in my head when they spoke and I'm not sure why! The landscapes come to life as well within the writing bringing the land of the story to the reader.

The story has great pace and flow, with definite beginning, middle and ending. There are epic fight scenes, epic love scenes, an epic ride in a wagon!!

I loved this book, a really refreshing read for me and I can't wait for the next in the series. xx

KC Kingmaker is back with a brand new series 🤗 YES!!!!
Her Briarwitch Academy Series was amazing, and this amazing start to a new series, doesn’t disappoint!! I absolutely love this new world KC has created ♥️ I can see the details in my mind, so vividly, as I read!! The characters she created are phenomenal!! I love our strong, beautiful, tough heroine, Levia!! Our Hero, Coalt, is a dragon shifter, and a hottie 🔥🔥🔥 His and Levia’s chemistry was steamy and delicious 💙 There is also danger and action!! It was definitely hard to put this page turner down!! I absolutely CANNOT wait for book 2!!! This book does end on a Cliffhanger, that will DEFINITELY leave you wanting more, because it is a part of a series!!

Due to Levia’s horrible childhood, she has started a shelter for abused women and children, with her best friend. Levia protects these women at all costs, and she definitely doesn’t trust easily!! When a dragon shifter named, Coalt, is thrown into the same situation with Levia, she has to learn how to work with him. It’s easier said than done!! Levia finds herself feeling things for Coalt that she has never felt before. Coalt makes it so easy to feel for him ♥️ Will Levia trust or ignore her heart?? Especially when dangers lurk around every corner!!!!

I very highly recommend this book ♥️🤗

🐲🐲ONE SENSATIONAL TREAT🐲🐲
Sizzling saddles scooby! Kingmaker unleashes one helluva tumultuous, boot-stomping, ground shaking, rock-my-world rollercoaster, serving up some badassery and fiery sass, bringing the heat and busting down walls, propelling this bad boy to staggering heights. Fiasco's and escapades run amuck, while showcasing this action packed, hard hitting, heart pounding, pulse racing, adrenaline pumping, nerve racking, jaw dropping, block busting thrill ride, secrets are revealed revelations are unearthed and vows are pledged, blasting this baby to life spectacularly. Sparks ignite as riveting drama, gripping intrigue, underlying currents, spiraling danger, electrifying suspense converge, observing the challenging struggles and titillating triumphs, while attentive to the nailbiting twists and wicked turns unfolding, wrapping this gem up sleek, shiny and tight. The characters, dialogue, interactions and charged atmosphere along with relatable qualities and individual traits, blend and flow, transforming into genuinely charismatic personalities. The scenes are abundantly descriptive with colorful details that blend and flow, creating a majestic backdrop so rich and lively it feels as though you're part of the story instead of on the sidelines, feeling everything the characters feel. Amazing job Kingmaker, thanks for sharing this awesome little gem with us.

LIKES:
✔ Beautiful cover
✔ Dragon shifters
✔ Strong, resourceful heroine

BUT ... :(

DISLIKES:
✘ It's set in a world where everyone is abusing/using women. Heroine calls it a "degenerate man's world". It's expected the man is going to rape you if they get you alone etc. I just think these kinds of settings are blergh.
✘ Something was missing. Maybe the style of writing didn't click with me, but I think it needed a better editor to make everything more focused.
✘ It's going to be a reverse harem-style romance. (I did not know that). I just can't believe that one woman can be a "true mate" with 4 guys. I have one husband and honestly, I am not sure if I could handle one more man in a relationship. :D

Sadly, I am going to have to give up on this series. The reverse harem is a deal-breaker.

I tried to finish this book. Mostly because I bought the whole series without knowing if it was good first. Mistakes were made, I have regerts.

DNF @62%. I first stopped reading at like 51% after the MMC fell madly in love and proclaimed this love after having one conversation with the FMC. I think the author intended for this conversation to be meaningful but to be perfectly honest the whole story was written in a juvenile manner so I didn’t feel that groundbreaking conversation was anything special. There was no deep bonding or shared morals. Nothing to actually indicate a reason for this guy to fall head over heels in love.

I’m cool with the insta-lust but the uninspired love confession was so cringe. I think the only thing I liked about this story was the FMCs full name, it’s pretty badass. Otherwise, it’s been disjointed and immature conversations and rapport.

Thanks for the complimentary copy!

I like the premise behind the story, however I just couldn't get into it. Levia's chapters were easy to read and the worldbuilding within them was well-paced, however Coalt's chapters felt forced and the worldbuilding was not well balanced. The story read like a mid-2010s Wattpad book, which, while not a bad thing per se, didn't bring me into the world or make me want to keep reading. 3 stars because the writing in Levia's chapters was excellent, even though the story itself did not make me want to continue reading.

This book is phenomenal! The first of KC’s new series and it’s an absolute must read! In this book, we meet Levia and Coalt, an Unscaled and a Dragon Prince. Their journey to find a dragon artifact is fraught with danger, betrayal and love. The search will lead them to more than they ever imagined when a part of Levia’s past is revealed.

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

5*****. Exciting nonstop action enemy to lovers PNR dragon shifter book. This fantasy romance had it all: good vs evil; rich vs poor, smoking hot dragon prince in exile and a feisty warrior woman fighting to protect abused women.

Forced to work together on a journey to retrieve a sacred object, the MCs begin to tolerate each other more and more with each step they take. Their chemistry is amazingly hot and their adventure is outstanding.

This book does end on a cliffhanger.

Yes!

A great new series! Lots of action, sword fights, fight for survival, love and magical creatures. Great twist at the end. Solid relationship build for Coalt and Levi’s. They sure burn it up. Heehee...get it. But seriously great chemistry between the two. From competitors to lovers. Can’t wait to see how they grow and conquer.

This book had so many twists and turns. I couldn't put it down. I had guessed early on what would transpire between coalt and levia. The necklace gave a lot a way for me or at least hinted at a lot for me. However I did not expect the ending at all and it definitely left me wanting more.

Violence, battle of swords and Witt, slight romance.

Ending with a questioning cliffhanger.

Well written, slow start, however this is the first book in a RH. Not a fan of RH, usually like this author’s stories, and love dragons but don’t like the sharing aspect.

3 stars!
I needed a book to read in a single day to get my mojo back and this was recommended on Twitter so I thought I’d try it. It was mildly entertaining while I was reading chapters in-between tasks at work.

I didn’t dislike the main characters per se, but it felt as if they were lacking a little depth. They had all of the traits of your typical fantasy with a fated mates romance, but it just felt that something else was missing from them. They had their one thing that drove them and just…nothing else to their personality? It left a little to be desired.

When it comes to Kindle Unlimited books, I have not ready very many. But of the ones I have read, the writing always seems to be very wattpad-esque. This book also fits that mold. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, as it does make the book more care-free and faster paced, but it did have me inwardly cringing at times. I would definitely not want to read books written in this style 24/7.

Overall it was entertaining for the single day I spent with it but I will probably forget everything about it in a few weeks.
