Learn through one mom's real life account - the do's and don'ts of foster parenting and what she wishes she had known about healing children and the personal growth she'd discover along the way.
I am obsessed with foster mama memoirs, and this was really wonderful. She went through her twelve year journey as a foster mom, and all the ins and outs of fostering and respite. This is a really easy read for someone who is curious about what the daily life looks like, as well as the challenges of fostering and adopting. There are lots of practical nuggets that I really appreciated, especially when she talked about self care and what that looks like for her.
21- be careful when calling foster kids because it reflects on the child. It’s better to say, “they are staying with us for awhile.” 26- triangulation is when you talk to someone and that person tells another person. This is how people get hurt and I have learned that the hard way 103- it’s important to remember that nothing is wasted, even when you have kids in your home for a short amount of time 125- setting a boundary with a kid who was verbally abusive. She set up a carpool so that she wasn’t alone with the boy 177- respite is valuable!!! 178- husband and wife must be on the same page and sometimes that is hard
Julie (the author) encouraged my Aunt greatly when she struggled with her adopted kids. Both Auntie and cousin are subtly name dropped in here🤭I took away a lot of good tips, tricks and encouragement for myself in regard to fostering.
