Rate this book
A motivational diet plan to blast fat—and keep it off—by Ian K. Smith, M.D., the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Clean & Lean.

New York Times bestselling author Ian K. Smith, M.D.’s unique new plan takes intermittent fasting to the next level, combining the power of time-restricted eating with a detailed program that flips the body into a negative energy state, scorching fat on the way to weight loss and physical transformation.

Many IF books leave readers to figure out what and how much they should eat during their feeding window, and even how long to fast each day. Smith knows that even readers highly motivated to change their weight and their health need marching orders, and they’re all here in Fast Burn!’s nine-week program. Dr. Ian believes in cleaner eating—forget perfect—and the two positively disruptive Jigsaw Weeks he works into his Fast Burn! program not only mix things up so Fast Burners stay on track, but introduce refreshing and less structured plant-based weeks to the program. Fast Burn! goes beyond the daily meal plan, but also includes simple and achievable exercises—with both gym and out-of-gym optionsfor every week as well as thirty-three recipes focusing on improved calorie quality, including the plan’s signature Burner Smoothie, to use throughout the three stages of the program.

I'm really never so harsh on a review. But this is one of those throw-a-book-together, and jump on the bandwagon about the newest trending diet. The first part explains what fat is. Any serious dieter knows this. And if you actually try to follow this 9-week plan which spells out EVERYTHING SO EXACTLY, you're crazy. And the filler exercises and recipes are not even as good as what you can find online. I also never recommend a better book in a review but take a look at "Fast. Feast. Repeat." if you want some info on IF.

Dr. Ian Smith’s spin on intermittent fasting worked for me. Fortunately, I didn’t have much weight to lose but I lost 10+ lbs and stopped drinking diet soda! Fast Burn focuses on clean eating and exercise. It’s not simply a diet it’s a way of eating for life and health. The FB group is very supportive. I would have given it 5 stars if the editors proofread for typos.

This is the easiest plan to follow! There are so many choices for meals and snacks you don't feel deprived at all!

I suppose if you wanted a handbook with a diet laid out for you this might be good...the "plan" was repetitive, so you could open the book to each day and see everything you needed to know about that day (including how many times to walk up the stairs).

But I had serious concerns about some of his recommendations. The introductory chapters were more like a summary of other IF and TRF protocols, but without firm data, or any of the author's personality: did he read the actual research OR follow the plan? Many parts of the plan tell you to do things that are either counter to most other Fasting rules that I've read, or just too impractical. Drink as many flavored beverages as you want in your fasting window? A 14/10 eating window that still tries to fit in 3 meals and 3 snacks? (But don't start eating until 2 hours or more after you wake up. What if I have to get to work?)

Nothing was supported. The few things I HADN'T heard of come with no reasons. Why drink a full cup of water before eating? What benefit comes from 2 days a week being plant based?

This is such an easy plan to follow! I’m the kind of person who needs a lot of structure when following a meal plan and he spells it all out for you while also providing plenty of options for each meal and snack so you can eat what you are in the mood for. You don’t need to cut out your favorite foods and some of the recipes are so delicious that I actually make on the regular now. I could see this as a great occasional ‘reset’

This book changed my life. Thank you Dr Ian for introducing me to the tools I needed to live clean and healthy. Lost 20 lbs in 9 weeks. Have kept it off for over a month now. Lifestyle change I will continue.

I was disappointed, as I was hoping for a little more science. I'm a big fan of Dr. Smith and have read his other books. This was mostly a recipe book with a few chapters of into, and really no new information!

The concept is there, the delivery is not. So repetitive. The meal and exercise plans could have been edited and delivered in a much more concise fashion. Plus for a fasting diet, there is WAY too much food. This is dieting for dummies.

About 1/3 or more of the text is just duplicated instructions for basics of exercise routines and dietary prescriptions. Generally lacks much base of science or references to any specific research studies on fasting.

Great book if you are new to IF, if not - it’s probably not the book for you. Tons of menu ideas which is nice.

This book is for someone who is looking for 9 weeks program of IF with ample recipes (with details plan of what to eat on which day etc). This gonna benefit for those people. It also include right amount of information of fats, IF, etc. But if you really want to dig into details info about IF, foods, etc, this one may not be for you. Overall, give it a try and you may get something out of this book.

I completed one cycle of the Fast Burn Challenge using Dr. Ian K. Smith’s most recent book and lost a total of 13 pounds over the course of the nine weeks. The plan is easy to follow and embraces clean eating and intermittent fasting. The book outlines food choices (menus) for both meals and snacks over the nine-week period, along with recipes, exercises, and lists of snack suggestions. It is flexible and allows for a great deal of choice within the parameters of clean eating and intermittent fasting. It will definitely be a book that I continue to refer to since I have chosen to now follow this healthier lifestyle. Additionally, a FB group was created for the initial challenge; however, the group is still open to anyone interested in wanting to be a part of a supportive group of people striving to be their healthier selves.

This is a good diet book. It walks you through a 9-week plan that incorporates IF, Whole Foods, calorie counting, and exercise. If you are looking for a hard core diet with relatively quick results, I think this book would benefit you. The book includes daily meal and snack plans with options. There is a decent sized recipe section in the back. I think the part I will find most beneficial is the exercise portion of the plan. This book is not, however, for those who want to make a lifelong change or want to break free of diet mentality. This is a 9 week hard core diet including all that comes with diet thinking. This doesn’t seem long term sustainable to me. I don’t see somebody working through this program and still eating as it suggests a year later.
