Despite having found Mingxi, the Zhao family continued to favor the fake daughter, saying that Mingxi was not as kind nor as graceful as Zhao Yuan.

Mingxi didn’t mind. She continued to work hard to please her family although they would always say that she was trying to rob their attention away from Zhao Yuan.

Until she died because of a terminal illness.

It was then that she realized that Zhao Yuan was the actual lady blessed by luck while she was merely this novel’s evil supporting character with a tragic ending.

Zhao Mingxi who was given a second chance at life was bitterly disappointed. She no longer cared about her family. Screw her family and her fiancé. She immediately packed her bags and left home, off to complete the task given by the system named ‘Becoming Friends With Popular and Valuable Characters’.

After she left, the house suddenly became cold and quiet.

By right they should feel at ease, but–

Her parents, her indifferent elder brother, her brash younger brother, Shen Liyao who was used to her pursuits were all successively feeling… unused to it?

Actually, sometimes it doesn't matter if that person is your family or not. Only those who treat you well are the most important people in your life.

I love the ml, but I think the romantic relationship and the FL are both pretty strange. Definitely not what I imagine as romantic. Is it really romantic for someone to misunderstand that another person likes him when they're really just trying to leech off his luck and secretly thinks he's a delinquent? Is a "love" for someone that is built out of misunderstanding and selfish need really love? The ml is lucky compared to the FL, but he has his own problems, and his own difficult situation at home, so when he thinks that someone really finally loves him for himself, despite his flaws, he invests in returning that (non-existent) unconditional love wholeheartedly. Isn't he pitiful. I know the author intends it to be humorous, but the ml is literally just used as the fl's lucky koi and golden finger - he isn't really even his own person. He just needs to be grateful for being able to attract such an intelligent, beatiful, and perfect woman even if it's through a misunderstanding and continue to do everything in his power to not get thrown away like the other people in her life that have lost their value.

And the FL is quite decisive in acting for her own benefit. She 'likes' her fiance in her original life, but when she realizes that he's not lucky enough, she decisively abandons him despite acknowledging that he's never really done anything unforgivable to her. Even when he helps speak up for her to her family, she just sees it as what she deserves because she's treated him to so much of her home cooked food previously. She really can only see the world and relationships as a series of transactions. She gives her family so much effort in her first life, so she expects a return from them. When she realizes the returns isn't worth her effort, she decisively switches targets to someone else. I think the "luck tree" personifies her life philosophy. It allows her to accurately judge if she's getting the proper return on her investment into her relationships.

That's another thing that strikes me as off in this story. Perhaps I've just read too many counterattack stories, but there's no such thing as free lunch. How is it possible to increase someone's luck without subtracting someone else's? The whole concept sounds like a scam. Even the way the system describes it, as using scenes to boost the fl's popularity with audience, hints that this probably means decreasing the attention to someone else. The wifi analogy is the same - if you heavily leech off someone's wifi with video stream and online games, you'll likely slow down their connection.

Finally, I have to disagree with the consensus on how awful the biological family is. They tried everything they could to get back their daughter. Sometimes, when the book's perspective changes, it's possible to get glimpses of how the situation looks from their perspective. They want to do well by the daughter they've raised, but also try to care for the biological daughter they don't fully understand. There's going to be misunderstandings, and biases, because they gravitate towards believing the child they've raised over the less familiar biological daughter. Things that the daughter does differently will initially feel strange and wrong to them, but over time, they'll grow to like it and care for the daughter. Is it really their responsibility to immediately understand, cater to, and deeply love a stranger, even if it's a biologically related one? I honestly don't know what they've done to deserve being cut off by the biological daughter. They're biased, sure, but I think from their perspective, it's probably quite hard to see this. And this doesn't seem to be the main reason for the fl leaving. Because if it was, when they realized their mistake, she would give them a chance. Instead, it's because they can't provide her with the luck she needs, so they aren't worth her effort. Sure, she has no obligation to forgive them, but they also had no obligation to favor her just because she put in the effort in her first life.

Perhaps I'm just very biased, but no family is perfect. And discarding family because the relationship is hard, or because they can't read each other's mind, or intuitively understand each other's perspective, feels a bit juvenile. Sure, everyone has to be willing to take that initial step towards trying to understand each other and speak honestly. But that's not going to help any luck tree grow, so what's the point.

This was my first BG Chinese webnovel. The summary seemed interesting and the ratings were good on novelupdates so I was excited to start this. However, it was actually kind of disappointing. Although it is a school-life romance with the switched-at-birth trope, it was a lot more trope-y and cliche. Honestly, I don't understand its rating on novelupdates. The role of the system was just to set up the premise of her flower pot and everything came easily to her. Zhao Yuan was supposed to be one of those green tea girls, but in the end, I felt sorry for her. Zhao Mingxin, on the other hand, became kinda like a white lotus. The Zhao family's reasoning for disregarding both Zhao Yuan and Mingxin was so stupid and I don't like it was portrayed that their actions towards Zhao Yuan were correct. Overall, I just was hoping for more but danmeis have done this trope better. I hope to find some better BG novels in the future.

This novel had several tropes that I do not like and find them very limiting for the novel itself and after finishing it proved to be the case for this novel too. Main is - system forcing a task for survival, others are - protag halo that influences others to lose normal human integrity. Just from the get go you know that although it's a forced proximity, it also bears a feeling of hypocricy for a long period. And don't think that Mingxi as FMC had no other option, it's just the settings that made it that way. But let's skip the part where in order to survive she must approach other people with good luck, I had so many prolems with FMC in general. Let me explain:

While you might find that Mingxi is a pitiful girl who is influenced by protag halo to have a miserable life at first, by the end of the book those limitations and inability to turn the story in less trope-y and cliche direction finally made her seem quite rigid and too unyielding.
But in the back of my head I could let go of that one thought - she like no one else knows what it's like to be influenced by that protag halo and now she knows the consequences, but she has no sympathy for entire Zhao family, although their situation is basically being a family of marionettes who pamper the heroine Zhao Yuan with no reason. But for the entirety of the book, starting from all the family member recollecting their own action they step on the road of regret and mysery. And this is the mulling I'm talking about, there was so much of it and so many similar scenes of her family wanting to get close, but she refuses them. She has all the right to refuse, but I wished I could see the glimpse of at least their relationship easing up and not them being depressed all day long. Mingxi should be the first to know how it feels, but she turns a blind eye, that's the FMC for you.
The second thought I had - oblivious adult that sends mixed signals. Mingxi changes target from her former "crush" Liyao to Yangxi, but now she is not chasing someone but yangxi is her "target" in order to survive, but it's funny how a more mature woman is oblivious that she sends mixed signals to a teenager and thinks these things will pass like nothing. Like how her actions are different from her previous pursuit and why she is so sure he won't get the wrong idea? Imagine if he wasn't a male lead of this story, he'd have nowhere left to cry.

Because of Mingxi's actions in this forced proximity I can't express enough how sad I was about male lead Fu Yangxi. This is why I hate this trope. The guy misunderstands the girl's approach, there are no geniuine feelings, but he treats her like a light in his life. Yes, his character seems unbearable and he is a caricature of a tsundere, but we know what happens in his head. It's good he doesn't know the reason why she approached him.

Rounding up the situation with male lead and the Zhao family it leads to another problem I had while reading and felt it was over the top - shoujo-esque dramatisation. Male lead does not only have a tragic past but it's truly unbearable. Now he meets a girl who is not sincere at first. We should all cry for this guy's fate. What is also saddening is that actually he has a situation that is much more serious that the one Mingxi has, but his relationship with his mother and grandfather are skipped so easily and everything is resolved so unrealistically fast, in comparison my thoughts were only - so, Mingxi's parents were biased under the influence and there was mostly emotional abuse, but the entire novel has the Zhao family remorse plastered all over it. ML's abuse was way harsher, emotional and physical, so... you know where I'm leading to I hope. I couldn't help but compare a bit. Not only the overdramatisation played out like that, but also created such an impression in my head.

Maybe if I was younger and had not read so many novels I might be impressed by the FMC and her actions and the story itself etc. But I can't turn the blind eye to it.
I think I honestly enjoyed only the small part of the novel where Mingxi and Yangxi come together and have quite a sweet relationship.
Thus the rating.

This webnovel does follow most of the conventions and tropes of this genre. There are two babies switched at birth, one which belongs to a wealthy powerful family and one who belongs to a different socioeconomic class. After a decade a medical emergency allows the influential family to start a quest to find their biological child. Yet, when they find them, they feel attachment to the one they have nurtured since birth who seems more talented, intelligent, obedient, or some other preferable personality trait. They think there is no prejudice or harm in raising both but don’t want the scandal of explaining the past circumstances. They make up lies and the two children come to resent each other for real and imagined problems. Then there is a regression of sorts and the biological child no longer wants to fight for affection and resources—blazing an alternative path to happiness. There is a lot of drama, regret, and reflection between the two timelines.
The particulars in this case are that Minxi is left on the stoop of a countryside orphanage and raised by a kind woman elder woman. At fifteen she learns that she belongs to the powerful Zhao family. She comes to the city and tries to adjust to more demanding schooling and the new home environment. She learns to cook for her youngest brother, massages her mother when she doesn’t feel well, and much more but nothing seems garner a love response. Zhao Yuan is always favored and Minxi is told to stop being jealous and destructive. Minxi leaves for college and discovers her recent health issues relate to severe (terminal) cancer. She withdraws from class, spends a few weeks in seclusion, and dies at 23. Then Minxi awakens. A “female side character” system informs her that the cause of her troubles before was poor luck. The heroine’s debuffs auras and plot armor protected Zhao Yuan, forcing those around her to be steppingstone for her life. While there is no way for Minxi to overcome those challenges on her own, if she interacts with important characters in the novel who have better outlooks, she can soak up some of their aura and improve her outcome. Minxi is then returned to her seventeen-year-old body. She makes arrangements to stay at her high school, transfers to a different class, ends things with the fiancée the Zhao family arranged, and makes it clear she wishes to sever all ties with the family. Then hoping to stop her impending death she sets her sights on Young Fu Yangxi who had the highest value on her list with a six-percent return. Minxi struggles with his tsundere nature, diminishing returns on their interactions, and Zhao’s interference.
Overall, it is a predictable and sweet, not overly long story. The system does almost nothing after establishing the reason for the reset and premise goals. Minxi is still a bit of an overpowered Mary Sue preventing much tension. I hate that we slog through an eye rolling ugly duckling opener but appreciate she is not obsessed with payback and sets clear boundaries with people. The slice of life high school comedy antics are amusing and the puppy love style romance is cute. The slow process of recognition and regret for the Zhao family members along with Yangxi’s tragic backstory allow for all those good cries. The moral message that blood does not trump all and we all deserve someone who sees and values us is good. Not original or something I will seek out multiple times, but I enjoyed the time I spent reading it.

when I started this book, I was like “okay this is just a book I’ll read to pass time, it’s a 3 star at most” because the concept wasn’t all that interesting or unique and the main character was a little too dense. I don’t understand how she wouldn’t realize that SNIFFING SOMEONE is not normal behaviour??? Obviously people are going to think u like the guy bestie or that u have issues.

I kept reading cause I like me some family drama. About a third into the book it’s a 4 star. Fu yangxi is a sweetheart and I’m now reading for him. The MC is getting a little better and a little smarter.

AND THEN THE BOOK GETS GOOD AND STAYS GOOD LIKE WHAT
I teared up. A lot. They made my boy suffer. His backstory is so sad. And then I was so happy, giggling and kicking my feet. The confession was done so well and then end of that chapter made me laugh so hard I was crying.

Dating era of the book was so nice. Then the author scared me but everything worked out okay. I love how her family was dealt with, very refreshing.

Webnovel; C01-43, but I mostly read the family bits and ignored everything else.

1. Girl sent back to her past self decides to cut ties with her neglectful family.

2. I'm just. Such a sucker for tragedies. This one has some really upsetting things ft. the family and them realizing how crappy they were to the FL once she left. So much guilt and self-reflection and the slow and horrible knowledge that it's too late for them to do anything about. It's so good I'm indulging my angst-eating vampire tendencies.

3. This remains unrated because a lot of the story has to do with the FL's life outside of her family and uh- I wasn't here for that. Seems cute though. Might get back to it at some point.

sweet and heartfelt, with just the right amount of drama to keep me hooked. there were moments that made my heart ache, and i even shed a few tears while reading in the quiet hours of the night. the story was filled with emotion, showing the pain of heartbreak but also the beauty of healing and love. despite the heavy moments, it all came together in such a beautiful and satisfying way, leaving me with a sense of warmth and contentment by the end.

THIS IS LITERALLY- whew deep breaths..... this is so FREAKING GOOD!! now ive been avoiding reading bxg webnovels only bc i usually hate the way they describe their FMLs, like she's a child with tiny wrists and small knees AUGH SUCH AN ICK. I also despise the cruel, aloof, domineering CEO trope for our MLs but let me tell you rn THE ML LEAD IS NOTHING LIKE WHAT I EXPECTED!!! he's such a cutie tsundere and it was so freaking endearing. OUR FML IS SOO COOL AS WELL LIKE A BIG SIS AHHHHH. the relationship development was top notch and with our ML coming up with silly excuses to hide his crush lolol!! will definetely reread such a nice change in personality for a change <33333

Transmigration combined with a fake sibling switched at birth story should be a predictable novel. This one was entertaining with a blend of high school comedy, late blooming romance and family issues of the main couple. The MC made sound and sometimes hard decisions. She used her experiences and strong will to survive after being mistreated by her long lost biological family.
The “system” that provides buffs was not a major factor in the story. This is worth reading once for Fu Yangxi’s character, the MC’s school mate.

The way this could have been avoided if the Zhao family sat down both Mingxi and Yuan and explain to them that they are both their daughters and they love them both. Instead it seemed like the family couldn’t love both of them at the same time and in the end had no daughter. I also don’t like the ending Yuan got. I wanted her and Mingxi to become friends.

The best thing of the story was Mingxi and Yangxi relationship. I love how they both supported each other with their family problems.

Cute story. It got me back into reading after a break, I could not put it down.
Firstly, I read the manga and really enjoyed the story. The manga is not finished, so I got curious how the plot will continue. This was my first novel read on the phone. I even installed Wattpad just for it.

No regrets.

Brave FL, shy, himbo ML, I liked their dynamic and how straightforward the FL was.
What I didn't enjoy was the fate of Zhao Yuan. In my opinion, she was also a victim of circumstances. I was hoping that her and the FL would end up friends and really wanted an extra chapter from her POV. However, the story was very unkind, turning her into a criminal and sending her to jail, with no other mentions. She was a spoiled brat, but ofc she was. That was how she was raised. I wanted for a more nuanced discussion, but oh well. It is what it is.
