In the game of apocalypse, their survival is humanity's last hope.
Beck Beasley is just your average eighteen-year-old Jersey girl. . . who gets transported to an alternate universe by a mysterious green flash alongside her brother, Brad. What could possibly go wrong? Aside from the glowing fish, swarming mutant birds, and other flesh-eating evolutionary anomalies that look like they stepped right out of a horror movie. Not to mention the other pairs of siblings they encounter along the way, also transported by the Flash. With no idea where they are or what dangers lurk around every corner, the group of misfits must band together to figure out why they were chosen, what happened to their homes, and most importantly, how to survive the game of their lives.
Elizabeth "E.J." Rekab is an author of YA & NA fantasy romance, science fiction, and paranormal, including THE REAPER TRILOGY which international best-selling author E.E. Holmes calls, "A truly unique paranormal thrill ride."
I adore Elizabeth Rekab's books, so was really veeeery excited to get the opportunity to read Apocalypse.
I was NOT disappointed. 💥
This is very different from her other books. A horrible end of the world scinario, but a few lucky "special" people are chosen to save the human race.
The initial story setting gives us an insight into all of the characters. We get to see their past unravel and discover who they are. Then it becomes a gripping, hold your breath, fast paced fabulous end....
Definitely leaving you wanting more!!
Faaaaaabulous!! I can't wait for the next instalment.
Whew-wee-mama! This is a good one if you are into apocalyptic stories. I have read many books in this genre and this one is truly unique. It isn’t the typical survival story. They do need to survive but not in a normal fashion.
It begins with a group of teens facing an unfamiliar world and the angst it brings with it. Feeling as though they are being manipulated, they later learn that was the case.
These kids later find themselves in an underground bunker where they learn they have been chosen to save humanity. They progress through training to prepare them for life in an alternate universe where they will eventually live. Here they learn of the deceit that has been inflicted on them. They fight for the truth and hearing it is worse than they’d imagined. Will they make it to their new world?
Just another Apocalypse world ending story, right??? Not in the least!! We have time travel, alternate universes.
Breck and her brother Brad are just doing their work at their parents' insurance company when a HUGE white and Green flash happens after what feels like an Earthquake. They wake up on a strange version of their Earth. Along the way, they find others also transported by this flash. Tasks or trials await them. What is going on? How did they get here? How do they get back?
I am not going to spoil it, so I am stopping there. I will say, this was a GREAT book and 2022 the next one in the series comes out, and I am excited to see where the storyline goes.
YA and up will love this, even adults, I swear, since I'm far from YA. :) Characters are relatable, endearing, and you just want them to succeed and survive.
You guys! This is now one of my favorite books. I didn’t really know what to expect but love Elizabeth’s writing to jumped on reading this and I’m so glad!
This is like if Jumanji and Hunger Games had a baby (but no killing of kids- so no worries there!) There are so many trials and twists and turns. Such a page turner! I could not wait to finish the book (Altho now I have to wait for the next one *tears*)
I am so impressed with this book. If you like sci-fi with amazing story telling them you will love this book!
Elizabeth J Rekab has easily become one of my favorite authors! She is an incredible author. I highly suggest giving The Reaper Trilogy, book 3 is due to be released this fall, and Hawnt a read as well! You’ll fall in love with this authors books like I have. Apocalypse, Uploading is her first book in this genre, and I was a little worried because I want nothing but success for her as an author. She absolutely killed it! This book reminds me of something Tracy Korn would write but different and uniquely her own.
As always I was sucked in right from the start. It’s fast paced and easy to follow along with. Wonderfully written. This book brings us to the year 2061, where the earth is not what we know today. There’s rumor of bombs being blasted, the population is full of people who are a tad rough around the edges, technology beyond what we have, not to mention kids with special gifts, animals we’ve never imagined before, and much more. We are thrown into a world full of secrets, secret agendas, power hungry people, scientists that have done the impossible. This book has something for everyone.
Beck and Brad are brother and sister. They are so funny. Beck is a healer. She’s strong, sassy, loyal. Brad is unsure of himself, hilarious, and a good person all around. They really balance one another out and make for some hilarious moments. Next is Kyle and Lou. Kyle is strong, easy going, and good with words. Lou is the youngest at 11 but she’s a genius and empath. She knows how people are feeling which makes her the one everyone looks to when it comes to meeting new people. David and his sister Nita are next. David has had a tough life and never thinks he’s good enough. He’s can control fire, which has him believing he’s dangerous. Overall he’s a great person to have on your side. Nita is one fierce and awesome person. She’s amazing at fighting and saves the group a time or two. Last but not least we have Cameron and Kim. Kim can control water. She’s more of the silent type but is really down to earth. Cliff climber and surfer. Cameron loves bad puns and loves talking. A lot. Together they form a tribe of 8. Four sets of siblings who trust each other with their lives. Together they must fight to find the truth and to survive. Each one of these characters have grown into real people for me. They had me laughing, gasping in surprise, close to tears, and so many other feelings.
This is an amazing start to what I’m sure will be an amazing series, whether it’s a duology or trilogy! I do need to warn you though that the cliffhanger is a big one. I’m going to leave you with a quote from brad that had me laughing so hard and will hopefully leave you wanting to read it to find out more:
With a cast of late teens selected for special abilities or kinship to the gifted this science fiction is firmly aimed at the young adult readership. Adults are questioned as to their truthfulness and motives throughout. Actions speak louder than their words. The apocalypse is envisioned as a nuclear holocaust and the mission is to escape to a different version of earth and re-populate it. This is all funded by a billionaire who just happens to own the mind altering technology underlying the transport process. That it also causes memory changes and lapses just happens to be an unpredictable by-product.
The concepts described have earned three stars. One star is lost because of poor editing and/or bad stylistic choice. There are quite a few line and copy editing mistakes throughout. Stylistic choice? I do NOT think it is OK or even okay to render that concept as ok, which rhymes with sock. "Are you feeling ok?" "Everything will be ok." and many, many other examples as teenage conversation is peppered with okays. Not for nothing is young adult genre said to be one of the most demanding and expecting high quality writing.
Another star is lost because of the incomplete and inconsistent rendering of plot development. We are introduced to a core cast of eight, yet I felt only four of these were sufficiently described to make them distinctive and relatable. The paradox of one character appearing in the same place and time twice (it is science fiction, so time travel is allowed) is not considered or addressed. As it is central to explaining the set-up, this is a big oversight.
As this is first in a series, there is a cliff-hanger ending. I did see this coming well before, so I found it unsurprising. Another gifted character is introduced and their ability to read minds could prove very interesting, but needs to be handled better than the time travel paradox being ignored.

For Beck and Brad, it is just another day at their parents' office, when a mysterious flash interrupts their day and transports them to a different world. It becomes apparent, that they are not the only siblings who have been snatched from their daily lives and, together with their tribe, they have to find a way back home. But home is not exactly what they were expecting.
Apolcalypse, Uploading is not your standard dystopian young adult novel. The author, Elizabeth J. Rekab successfully blends themes and this book is not easily fitted into any one genre. Part urban fantasy, part dystopian and part post apocalyptic, this novel will be suited for a wide range of reader tastes.
I enjoyed the plot twists and loops very much. The characters are diverse and well written. Rekab expertly builds worlds, as the characters move between the different scenarios the plot takes place in. The plot is very well paced and unexpected turns of events make this a thoroughly enjoyable read.
I am definitely looking forward to the next installment in this series.

What will you do when your home is not your home anymore. Becky finds herself with her brother on an alien world. It seems to be populated by two headed mutant animals. But they are not alone, after trials and trials they meet other siblings that came in the same fashion as them. But not all is what it seem, even there memories.
As not to give away to much what happens, it is an awesome Apocalypse's story. The interaction between siblings is entertaining and as written, not all is what it seems. Why are they the chosen ones, what is so special about them? When it starts to clear up what is asked of them, another ball game is here at play. Can they unravel what is happening to them?
Love the action, world building and powers, with a little romance on the side. Even though there was a lot of action, it didn't quite felt like they were cliffhangers but it was well written that I had no problem to just read until the end. I cannot wait for the next story.
I had a hard time liking Beck, who is one of the main characters. Her overall personality was irritating. I liked the overall premise of the book. The other characters were not so bad, but they did not make me want to become personally invested. I read it tot he end and simply did not cared what happened.
The book is written in third person and chaptered from different point of views. It’s a personal preference, but I only can stand multiple view points in first person. And I don’t like so many. Keep it to two or three.
really like the premise but more invested in the story then the characters. The eight main characters i feel like I am only just getting to know and am in fact just as curious about one of them introduced at the end of the book as any of the others. The style of writing and the plot kept the story moving fast and it was not super predictable having a couple of nice plot twists. This could turn into a really enjoyable series. I received this book free from BookSirens and am leaving this reveiw voluntarily.
If you're a fan of The Maze Runner series, than you're definitely going to enjoy this book. You can't help but like the diverse characters as they traverse the mysteries of a chaotic world and try to discover who or what sent them to an unfamiliar, deadly landscape. From the imaginative, crazy creatures to the characters' banter, this quick read is enjoyable from start to finish, and I definitely recommend it.
I was blown away by the new take on a "post-apocalyptic" type world. There were so many twists and things I never expected. I really enjoyed the characters, Beck in particular was one of my favorites. Overall this was a refreshing new read and i thoroughly enjoyed it.

Plenty of intriguing twists in this one. Some strong characters and the introduction of more as the various tribes move forward. A good mix of sci-fi, virtual reality, the insanity of mankind, and more. It kept me entertained, it will be interesting to see how the tale develops.
