FBI Agent Rachel Gift, 33, unparalleled for her ability to enter the minds of serial killers, is a rising star in the Behavioral Crimes Unit—until a routine doctor visit reveals she has but a few months left to live.
Not wishing to burden others with her pain, Rachel decides, agonizing as it is, not to tell anyone—not even her boss, her partner, her husband, or her seven-year-old daughter. She wants to go down fighting, and to take as many serial killers with her as she can.
With a rash of people dying suspiciously from high bridges, jumping to their deaths in apparent suicides, the FBI is called in to investigate. On suspicion of a serial killer, Rachel is assigned the case, and soon realizes she is up against something more diabolical than she could have imagined.
In an epic game of cat and mouse, can Rachel stay healthy enough to outsmart the killer and catch him before it’s too late? And can she keep her own demons—and her own traumatic past—at bay?

I like Blake Pierce, although I have no idea how he can write so many different series of books. This series is not well written, which is unusual for author Pierce. We find out very clearly about the brain tumor (this is not a spoiler because it comes out in the first chapter of Book #1). But all she does is attempt to keep it a secret from her husband and partner and she wants to tell her 6 year old child that she is dying -- bad bad idea.
About the rest of the story. Both book 1 and 2 have very complicated story lines. In my opinion there are too many rabbit holes. The author has a great mind to think of so many different ways a murder could go but two, maybe three scenarios would have been much better than five or six.
I will probably continue to read the series because I want to see if a cure if found for her but I'm skipping much of the repeating and in this book I even skipped several paragraphs about a suspect because I knew it couldn't be that person as we were at 60% of the book.
This is the second Book in the Rachel Gift series. I hope you have read Book 1 because in that book we find out that Rachel has been told that she has an inoperable tumor in her brain. So her and her partner Jack have another case they have to work that hits to close to home. Rachel has a grandmother who is still alive and she is sort of close to. Grandma Tate, is her name, and she has found out that she has breast cancer and she is in the last stages and has accepted it and wanted to let her know that she didn't want any type of treatment. She didn't want chemo or any type of operation she wanted to live like she lives now until the end and she wanted to come tell Paige her great granddaughter about it and spend some time. So on top her having a diagnosis she has not knowing when it might take her out she has her grandmother to take care of. She has not told her husband, so hence her child does not know yet either. They go on a case to NYC where there is someone helping suicidal people kill their selves and Jack and Rachel have to find the person with no material evidence to go on just electronic evidence. It is exciting. I love Rachel but I think she is wrong keeping secrets that might blow up in her face and then there is the serial killer Alex Lynch is added to the mix. This story has me excited for the next book in this series. Good Read.
Rachel is shocked when she gets to know her grandmother is sick and decided not to be treated, and this piece of news only adds to her own feelings regarding her diagnosis. She knows and needs to tell someone but she just can't get to do it, not to her family or to her FBI partner. She now understands better her body limitations and is trying to learn to live with them but this case with the bridge jumpers is only putting more suicidal thoughts into her mind. They struggle to find the culprit as all leads reach a dead end. Will they be able to solve the case without any more deaths? Will she be able to tell her family? A story with such a good plot, full of action and twists and turns that gets you hooked!!! I downloaded a free copy of this book through BookFunnel and this is my honest opinion.
This series featuring FBI agent Rachel Gift features probably the most unusual thriller mysteries ever. And irony galore. Her mother has been diagnosed with cancer and has a limited time to live. Rachel is all for saving lives yet she herself has but months only to live from a brain tumour. And she is now engaged to save depressed people jumping of bridges in a case pointing towards a possible a murderer active in getting these people to jump. Yet it is also indirectly a testament to her ability as FBI agent to come up with motives for suspect murder cases that makes her unique in solving some of the toughest cases ever. Her Last Chance, written by accomplished mystery author, Blake Pierce, is proof of that once again in this series. That is, besides featuring the most unusua and intriguing plot I have ever come across so far in decades of reading. Enjoy.
This a story of two FBI Agents trying to determine if the 3 latest suicides were coincidences or murder. Plus prevent further ones. Since they are occurring nightly, in New York City, and jumping off bridges, it doesn’t give the agent much time to solve this.
I found this unbelievable in every sense of the word. There are over a thousand bridges in NY city. The only thing they have to go on is the jumpers were all depressed.
To top it off, we have an agent who is suffering with a brain tumor. This causes her to have dizzy spells and ye she manages to do some remarkable things. She has a partner but he doesn’t seem to be much help.
It’s all so unbelievable it was hard to finish, but I like to finish what I start, so I read on.
Rachael and Jack are FBI agents and have been partners for several years. They have some really dangerous cases. Their cases are extreme but Rachael and Jack are very good at solving them. This case is no different. Why are men jumping to their deaths from bridges in New York City? Rachael hasn't told her family or anyone else that she has an inoperable brain tumor and doesn't have long to live. She's fighting the urge to tell Peter, her husband what's going on with her. Finally she's ready to tell him but something happens that takes precedence. This is an intriguing story.
FBI profiler Rachel Wish is given a death sentence by the brain tumour and now she’s holding on by her sheer nerve. A serial killer is threatening to tell her family about her impending death if she doesn’t. Rachel is now hearing voices as her tumour gets worse and her partner is getting concerned. Rachel isn’t sleeping and is having headaches but she’s still not sharing her diagnosis past admitting her grandmother has cancer. The woman is risking much to solve a few more cases…her marriage, her daughter and her career are at stake!

Another great example as to why I buy everything this author writes. He gives you enough of a direction to guess what may be the way he is going, but not enough to say I know how it will end. And always something , a plot twist ,to make you want to start the next one immediately and answer the question you have as to how the heck did that happen. I just want Rachel to tell everyone.
Sequel to Blake Pierces book Her Last Wish. Not only does Rachel experience inner termoil about telling her family her own issues, but then a family issue arose. Another thrilling novel on capturing a serial killer, this time they’re staging deaths as suicides. Just when you think you know who the killer is you’re completely blind sighted by the true killer. Only let down to this book is there were an increasing amount of grammatical, spelling and punctuation errors, to that of the first book.
FBI Agent Rachel playing a game with her life is at stake Her goal is to take out as many serial killers till then A dangerous game is being played, and no one else. Knows the stakes in this game with a serial killer. Good series, with many twist, will it be the last for her Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
Rachel still hasn't told her family nor her partner about the inoperable brain tumor. Now she receives news that her grandmother is dying with cancer. She doesn't have time to take it all in before she has to go to NYC to help find out why so many people are jumping from bridges supposedly committing suicide. Great reading! Can't wait to get the next in this series!
Wonderful series with a cast full of great characters. An unforgetable heroine, an stoppable FBI agent, is the main character. With a horrendous secret waiting in the background, Rachel Gift fights to save potential victims and bring serial killers to justice. But how long can Rachel continue with her career and put off revealing the truth to the ones she loves?
I rated book number two a five star. It seems each book I read of this series gets better and better. The plot, detective Gifts secret, things happening and who is murdering or why are these people jumping off some of New York's bridges. An exciting page turning read. I can't wait to read book number three.
Rachel has the gift of insight and can see things before they happen. This can be helpful as an FBI agent. Rachel and her partner are deployed to work on a series of murders, however, Rachel is also distracted by some personal matters. Will she be able to manage the insights, her personal life and work.
I couldn't read fast enough! I am hooked on this series. On to the next book. I only wish I didn't have other obligations and could simply sit and read straight through. A very captivating read.
I very rarely purchase books. There are simply way too many available free online. I did purchase this one however and it didn't disappoint one bit. I recommend not just the book but the series. 👍
Her Last Chance (Rachel Gift FBI #2) was a great read by Blake Pierce. There are people dying suspiciously from high bridges, by jumping to their deaths by apparent suicide. Rachel Gift is called in to investigate and suspects there is a serial killer. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.
This is for the audio version. I almost didn’t listen to this book because the narrator is terrible on the first book. Sadly she narrates the second as well. I’m not sure what the accent is, but what drives me crazy is she tries to put a “th” at the end of so many words where it doesn’t belong.
The story is fine, but I wish he’d use a different person to narrate this series.
I enjoyed the twist with this plot even though I still don’t care for Rachel Gift. I was hoping I would warm up to her but still can’t manage to. That being said, the main storyline is unique, and fast paced. Great plot! **I received this book in exchange for an honest review. **
Anything that I read by Mr.Pierce I am never disappointed. The book is well written and easy to follow. If you are looking for a new series anything by Blake Pierce is a good choice.
This book kept me entertained the whole time and is a great short thriller/suspense mystery read involving a terminal cancer diagnosis, an FBI agent bungee jumping off a bridge in NYC and an unsuspected perpetrator.
Blake never lets me down and always a cliff hanger at the end, of course now onto book 3 in the series. This was a little slow burning hence the 4 stars but nonetheless I loved it.
