Fuzzy Socks and Midnight Clocks is a thrilling glimpse into the life of one Lindsey Jones. Her wisdom and prowess grace the pages as she divulges and shares deepest secrets, heart stirring romances, and the trials of life as an unexpected heiress.
Sherrie Mackelprang’s love for writing began at the age of four when she used a purple crayon to write her name in the bottom of her dresser drawers. When she is not writing, Sherrie is typically found in her garden wearing closed toe shoes.
This is the first book I have read by Sherrie Mackelprang. And I LOVED it! I loved the author’s characters and the clever way they wrote the book. I haven’t seen many books written in this way. And it was nice.
This book is about Lindsey Jones. But the reader gets to read it through her diary. I loved the way the entries were written. They are in first person and just delightful! Lindsey just wants to live her life in her own way. But her mother has other plans. She wants Lindsey to get married and right away too. And that’s where the crime comes in.
I loved that this book had a crime element. Lindsey isn’t even sure what’s happening to her and why, at least for a while in the story. And that left the reader feeling the same. It was fun to get to see why Lindsey was being targeted. And what she planned to do about it.
It was even more fun to see her get a second chance at love, just when she thought she never would.
This is one book I didn’t want to put down. It was a fast and easy read. I hope you love it as much as I did!
I was sent a copy of Fuzzy Socks and Midnight Clocks as a gift from the publisher. All opinions are my own
Upon opening this book, I was apprehensive as to how I was going to feel about it. Admittedly, I almost closed it for good and refused to finish it.... more than once. BUT I'm so glad I stuck it out! This book started out a little slow for me, but ended on such a heartfelt, high note!
Rather than feeling like you're in the main character's shoes, this book is like being a fly on the wall to Lindsey's life. And trust me, it's not drab! Being written entirely in the format of Lindsey's journal entries, I found myself mildly anxious (the good kind) for a good outcome for Lindsey. It was like listening to the day-to-day adventures of a really good friend. You sympathize when their life isn't going well, and you hope the best for them.
This book had some "anything-but-ordinary" twists! When you are pretty sure her life is very ordinary, it definitely isn't. It had relationships, both failed and flourishing. It had that finding of self and discovering of family.
While the story itself has me wanting to rate a 4 star, I STILL haven't been able to get rid of that honest to goodness "feel good" feeling that came with the end of the book. Like feeling so happy for someone you care about. And for that reason I'm rating it a 5.
NOTES: -This book had quite a bit of "Utah culture" mixed in. It didn't bother me in the slightest, but it wasn't something I expected going into it.
-This story talks about topics such as adoption, loss of a parent, mention of murder, and drugs/drug rings. (Really, this IS a lighthearted story, I promise!)
Two thumbs up. Definitely recommend. If you're looking for a quick, lighthearted read without too many strings, this is one you should pick up.
I bought this book because I know and like the author. I read this book in 2 days because I couldn't put it down. I am not one that enjoys romantic novels. Sometimes the romance novels read more fantastic than my (favorite) fantasy stories. But, I loved reading this girl's emotional journey. This story had some interesting twists that kept my attention. It is a safe, clean, summer read.
I loved the book however I can’t believe how many typos were in the book. This seems to be a real problem in books these days, computers don’t do the job that real people should be doing. Aren’t there editors anymore? I did enjoy the story line and that it was light hearted, even though there were troubles along the way.
