A.L. Frances is a thirty-two-year-old British author.
The Broken is set to be a four-part series and marks A.L. Frances’ debut in literary fiction.
Born in Wythenshawe, South Manchester, she is the product of a broken home. Her formal education was cut short before she could gain any qualifications and she became a mother to three children by the time she was just twenty years old. At twenty-one A.L. Frances suddenly finds herself cast in the role of a single parent, destined to repeat the cycle of her own difficult upbringing.
Determined to give her children a better start in life, she moved to the countryside village of Hollingworth, and eventually settled into a career in law. It was during this transition that she found herself on a journey of self-discovery. Attending multiple mindset enhancing seminars in England, America and Canada, she was exposed to the tutelage of inspirational speakers such as Bob Proctor, Tony Robbins, and Mel Robbins among others. A.L. Frances was eventually introduced to Peggy McColl, a New York Times Best Selling Author. Standing on the stage, Peggy said the words that would inspire her into action. Peggy said, “Everyone has a book in them.” as she pointed into the crowd. It was at this point that A.L. Frances fell in love with the idea of writing her own book and telling her own story; one that would address one of her biggest fears: the vulnerabilities of broken homes.
At the age of twenty-nine, A.L. Frances decided it was time to start the next chapter of her life.
"The innocence of the young makes it hard for the adults to be consumed by grief."
The story picks up after the events of book one. Matthew Honey has lost his wife years ago and recently his daughter. And guess what? He is being accused of killing them both, the people he loved more than himself. But he believes that his daughter is very much alive, and he desperately wants her back. He has to find his daughter Evelyn Jade, unaware that cops are always watching his actions, and drowning himself into alcohol, that being his confidence juice.
A new character is introduced to the scene- Alice Parkinson, a single widowed mother of five. Along with that, the dark entity named Jezebel continues with finding new victims, to feast on vulnerabilities of broken homes .
There were too much descriptions of everything. I found that in the previous book as well, but I believe that this is the author's writing style. It's quite interesting but sometimes annoying when each and every detail of the room are described, although sometimes that's necessary to build up the scene. Since this is a series I would recommend reading the first part before picking this one up, and definitely suggest to read this one! I really liked it better than first part, this was easier to read and more interesting.
Actually the entire writing style is same as book one, which I liked because it really felt like a sequel, an actual continuation to the story. The book has lots of events going on and it's difficult to share that without giving out spoilers. I spent the whole day devouring this one. The book has this eerily dark feeling throughout and I can guarantee this disturbing, sinister dark thriller is worth a read!
After reading The Broken Part One , I was very eager to get my hands on the sequel, and I must say that I was not disappointed.
Matthew Honey's life has been ruined. His wife, daughter, company, pride, and nearly his mind are all gone. Worse, the cops are looking into his family's crimes. Despite the seriousness of his situation, Matthew is determined to find and rescue his daughter Eve from the evil that has started to haunt them. On the other hand, we meet Alice Parkinson, who has lost the father of her five children, the one and only true love of her life. When Jesse comes into her life, however, she sees it as an opportunity to start over. Alice and the children, on the other hand, are soon plagued by terrifying nightmares. Dorothy, Alice's mother, quickly recognises that something is very wrong in her daughter's home and vows to find out what it is.
Will Matthew and Dorothy be able to discover the truth before it's too late? Only time will tell, and as the darkness that has invaded their lives tightens its hold, time is running out. The plot of this thrilling tale is blurred by twists and turns as the horrors unfold.
This book will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page, making you wonder if the workout was tainted from the start. The story is terrifyingly unbelievable. Whether it's because of the fine narrative style or the simple yet beautiful language used, it makes the book more appealing and gripping. I guarantee that this spine-chilling crime thriller will torment and hunt your mind.
I'm looking forward to what the third instalment of the series has in store for me. Get a copy and get ready to be enthralled by this amazing series. I adored it.❤
A broken man, the once charismatic, successful businessman, Matthew Honey is a drunkard who has lost everything. Well nearly… Back in the dark reaches of his mind, he knows his beautiful daughter Eve, possessed by an evil entity, is still alive, and he is determined that he will find her.
However, not everyone agrees, Chief Inspector Lamont is equally convinced that Matthew killed both his wife Lauren, then years later his daughter, and is intent on proving it.
Time has moved on, and so have the entities formerly known as Jess, and Eve. Their plans are growing and it is the unlucky family of Alice Parkinson who are their new prey.
Newly widowed Alice has been wooed by Jesse. He has quickly won her heart, and moved in with her and her children, becoming part of the family. Then the household dynamic changes again, with the arrival of Jesse’s daughter. However, not everyone is pleased, Alice’s mum Dorothy is not keen on Jesse. Is it just too soon, or is a mother’s instinct kicking in?
The vividly dramatic writing of British born A. L. Frances, the author of this enthralling horror story, takes her readers deep into their terrified minds.
A father, determined to find his daughter, and a family in peril. As the horrors unfold, twists and turns mask the plot of this exciting story.
If you are a lover of deep terrifying stories which leave a prickle at the back of your neck, then this is the story for you. Highly recommended!

Despite the gravity of his situation, Matthew is determined to locate his daughter Eve and save her from the evil that has begun to haunt them. Alice Parkinson has lost the one and only true love of her life, the father of her five children. But when Jesse enters her life, she sees an opportunity to start over. However, Alice and the children are soon plagued by horrific nightmares. Alice's mother, Dorothy, quickly realizes that something is very wrong in her daughter's home and vows to find out what it is. Will Matthew and Dorothy going to find out the facts before it's too late? Only time will tell, and time is running out as the darkness that has infiltrated their lives tightens its grip. It's difficult to find a book that will keep you gripped to the edge of your seat these days. However, this book has completely blown me away! I will highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read because the author is so talented. ❤
My Review: The Honey residence that was once lively is now cold, tainted by evil. With Sub-Zero temperature, a strong, sinister vibration trembles throughout the building. Matthew Honey has lost his wife Lauren. Now his daughter Eve is also missing. His daughter's soul has been devoured by an evil entity Jezebel. Matthew miss his daughter very much.
He has to prove that he is innocent. To prove so, he has to find Eve. He has to visit Lymington Police Station and report there as part of his monthly bail condition.
Apart from the Honey family, story has Parkinson family also. Alice's husband is missing. So, in his absence, Alice developed a relationship with a guy named Jesse. She even brought him home and trusted him with her kids. Is this the biggest mistake of her life? Is her family in danger? Alice's mother believed that there is something wrong with Jesse. Mother's heart always identify the danger around their kids but still we don't listen to our parents.
The second installment in the broken series kept me on the edge while reading. It's a gripping story. Once you start reading it, you will find yourself bring lost into the world of Honeys and Parkinson. I enjoyed this story to the most. Author has a strong grip over writing and the story.
What will be your feeling when everything was going happy and pleasant but one day things cease to be pure and untainted and you are left isolated, no one in the world understand you and everyone turns their back on!??
Same was the case with our unfortunate protagonist Matthew Honey. Clouds were hanging around him ever since the death of his wife and after his precious daughter Eve gone missing. To add to this misery, he is charged responsible for the mysterious crimes. Nevertheless, Matthew has only one thing in his mind, to rescue his daughter Eve from the evil forces.
On the other side, we are introduced to Alice Parkinson, another soul living under gloom. After the lose of her husband, she hopes the arrival of Jesse will give a new light to her and her five children's life but as the story unravels both Matthew's and Alice's life gets entangled. Will the truth unfolds??

𝑻𝒊𝒕𝒍𝒆: The Broken: Tainted Trail 𝑨𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒓: A.L. Frances
𝑴𝒚 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘: The Broken: Tainted Trail is the second installment in The Broken series penned down by the author A.L. Frances. Written in twenty three chapters, this novel has lot to offer to readers. One of the main character of the story is Matthew Honey. He was once a happy man with a lovely family but now he is broken. His wife is no more and his daughter's soul has been captured by an evil figure.
In this story, we get to meet another lovely family i.e. Parkinsons. Alice is a mother of four sons and one daughter. Her husband is not there. This made Alice fall for a man Jesse. Even though Alice's mother Dorothy Davies didn't have good feeling about Jesse, still Alice didn't listen to her mother and continued her relationship with Jesse. She even allowed Jesse to be close to her kids especially her little daughter Hope.
Second installment of The Broken series is as intriguing as the first one. Frances has written this story well. The way the story is presented and thought of is brilliant. It's an unputdownable book. It's a captivating story. Once you start reading it, you won't be able to put it aside without finishing it.
Just when you think things couldnt get worse...Matthew Honey is being charged for his wifes murder and the disappearance and suspected murder of his daughter. No one believes Eve is alive. His business is gone, his family and friends abandoned him. All he knows is that he has to find Jezebel.
Alice has welcomed Jesse and Eve into her home, not knowing who or what they truly are. Her husband killed himself, leaving her to raise their five kids alone. Her mother knows there is something wrong but cant put her finger on it. Then she meets Matthew and everything spirals. This book is dark and twisted, the plots of the demonic overshadowing everything. And at the center is a very depressed and lost Matthew Honey.
As this chilling thriller continues, things seem to continue to spiral out of control for Matthew, a man already depressed and feeling completely alone is now being charged with his wife’s murder and with the disappearance of his daughter, he is now suspected of killing her also. The plot just keeps on twisting as Mathew struggles to figure everything out.
