4.5 amazing stars for this dark and gritty second chance, enemies-to-lovers mafia romance. Mist’s and Hawk’s story is dark and intense and one full of secrets, betrayal, obsession, and love. Be prepared to be pulled into the story from page one as this book grips you right from the beginning and will not let you go until you finish that last page.
Mist’s and Hawk’s emotional journey as a couple started over 15 years ago - when they were both a part of the Omega experiments as kids and trained to be assassins. The two forged a bond, but it wasn’t all unicorns and rainbows for these two. To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about Mist as she wasn’t that big on my radar in the other Team Zero books. (Note: this book, while a part of a series, can be read as a standalone) I shouldn’t have worried because she fast became one of my favorite heroines. She is strong, selfless, a fighter, and resilient. Then of course there is Hawk who sees Mist as his “salvation in my damnation”. What’s not to love about this sexy assassin? He is obsessive, broody, protective, and is what you would call the “strong silent type”. As a couple, they have some intense chemistry and what these two went through both individually and as a couple is nothing short of heart wrenching. My heart broke many time over for them and I may have obliterated an entire box of tissues.
One of the things that I like about this book is that it is told from a dual POV as getting into the minds of both Mist and Hawk is integral to understanding their relationship. I really like how the author weaved their story by writing mostly in the present, but also had flashback chapters interspersed throughout the book. It was a great way to show how their relationship started and what led up to present day. This book is fast-paced and kept me on my toes with all the revelations, the action, and the suspense. I received Misted for free and I am looking forward to the next book in this dark romantic suspense series.
