Alaska K-9 Unit
Book 1: Alaskan Rescue by Terri Reed Book 2: Wilderness Defender by Maggie K. Black Book 3: Undercover Mission by Sharon Dunn Book 4: Tracking Stolen Secrets by Laura Scott Book 5: Deadly Cargo by Jodie Bailey Book 6: Arctic Witness by Heather Woodhaven Book 7: Yukon Justice by Dana Mentink Book 8: Blizzard Showdown by Shirlee McCoy
Arctic Witness, part of Alaska K-9 Unit, is the first of the series that I have read but I plan to read others in the series, written by various authors. This one has some interesting information about Alaska woven into the story that I did not know about. Alaska makes a fun place for the setting of a book and a place that would be fun to visit. Heather Woodhaven does a great job making the setting come to life and creating a group of characters that are likable and real. Sean and Ivy are divorced but have a second chance at reconnecting when Sean, an Alaskan Trooper, and his K-9, Grace, along with two other Troopers and their K-9s are called in when Ivy is abducted. They were able to rescue her but the danger and suspense does not end as the abductor does not stop his pursuit of Ivy. The troopers have to figure out why the guy is after Ivy. In addition to keeping her safe, both fighting old feelings, other side issues, and solving the case, tensions run high as danger ramps up. This is a great suspenseful story with a thread of faith and maybe a second chance at love. I received a complimentary ARC from the author. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.
First off -- that cover just pops! That's Grace, a Japanese Akita Inu and little Dylan. They make a great pair, don't they? If only the grownups could get their act together they would all make the perfect family!
A reunion romance that deals with the gritty aftermath of disappointment. An edge-of-your-seat suspense that plunges characters and readers into the Alaskan wilderness on a perilous mission. Lots of lovely tension, plenty of action and K-9 team support make this sixth installment in the Alaska K-9 Unit continuity series as unputdownable as all the rest.
(As with all the books in this series, there's an over-arcing suspense thread that plays out through each book as well as a fully resolved mystery and romance unique to each story. So readers get the thrill of closure as well as the tantalizing tease of an ongoing case. Each book can be read as a standalone.)
Survivalist expert, Ivy West follows a stray Siberian husky outside her apartment at the mission where she works to a dead woman's body. Someone strikes her from behind and abducts her. When she comes to, he demands what the other woman had given her.
Alaska State Trooper Sean West and his Japanese Akita Inu partner Grace join two other K-9 officers and their dogs in searching for his ex-wife Ivy who has disappeared. Grace is a cadaver dog. When she alerts to a death at the site of Ivy's disappearance, Sean fights panic, but they follow through with the skills of each dog contributing to Ivy's rescue. However, she has seen her kidnapper, so her life is in danger. Sean and his team step forward to protect Ivy and her thirteen-month-old foster son, Dylan, whom Ivy is in the process of adopting. Ivy's desire for children and Sean's fear of having a family because of his job broke up their marriage. Now, that each has become a Christian, they wonder if they might live long enough to try being a family.
I enjoyed this clean, Christian suspense novel. I love dog books, and Woodhaven does a good job of building a strong personality in the dogs as well as the people.
Book 6 has been the best book yet; more love story than suspense. The multiple authors of this series have been able to weave a seamless tale of love and faith as God works in the characters' lives.
I enjoyed this book. I loved the dogs and baby Dylan. His Mama Ivy was one brave lady. I loved how Sean was so protective over them all. I even liked how the Musk Oxen made appearances here and there. This book makes me want to visit Alaska all the more.
Arctic Witness is a Christian suspense story that takes place in Alaska and has all the elements of a great book. Author Heather Woodhaven describes the scenery so well that I could picture the wildlife and beauty of the rugged landscape. I learned about gold mining in Alaska, the permafrost, the challenges of living in a harsh environment, and about Alaskan K-9’s. The main characters, Ivy West and Sean West were once married, but differences and misunderstandings drove them apart. Ivy works as a survivalist expert in a very remote area and Sean works in law enforcement. When Ivy goes missing, Sean and his K-9 partner, Grace, are called in to locate her. When they find her, Sean is surprised to learn that she is adopting a baby. While trying to find and apprehend the maniac after her, Sean and Ivy learn a lot about themselves, each other, and their faith. Arctic Witness is an excellent read with nonstop action and surprising twists. Author Heather Woodhaven does great job of weaving the message of faith into this book and I found it very satisfying. I enjoyed this book immensely.
What is not to love, a cover with a sweet baby boy and a fluffy dog? I thoroughly enjoy K-9 books and the setting in Alaska does not disappoint. Plus, I learned some interesting facts about Alaska. State Troopers and their K-9 companions make this series thrilling and full of suspense. Each book is written by a different author. That makes it enjoyable to find new authors or support a favorite author like Heather Woodhaven. I look forward to reading more adventures in this inspirational series.
I received an early copy from the author. The opinions are my own.
An unlikely reunion! ARCTIC WITNESS by Heather Woodhaven showcases left over feelings when a divorced couple reunite over danger and intrigue. He'll do anything to keep her safe, but seeing her living the life she wanted without him is a hard pill to swallow. The characters were quick to catch my attention and the mystery kept me guessing.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a faith based romance filled with intrigue and suspense as they work towards a happily ever after.
There was some talk about living a Christian life, but the focus was more on the action. Sean is called in with his K-9 Grace when his ex-wife Ivy is kidnapped. Things really move from beginning to end in this story. Sean is nice, but it is the 2 dogs who steal the show. Grace is there with Sean and Sky is with Ivy on and off from the beginning. These 2 are very intelligent animals, and the toddler Dylan is adorable. Ivy doesn't want to start relying on Sean again, but he is not leaving until they are safe.
The pace is breakneck and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with an action oriented storyline that has some almost kisses and that's all. The characters are vivid and endearing, including the dogs and toddler like I said. The character development is more gradual, perhaps because they are jumping from one problem to another! But you can see that these 2 newer Christians are trying to live a more spiritual life. You do need to read these in order, so start with book 1. But then there are only 2 more months until we get the solution to the overarching mystery. I can't wait! Enjoy!
"Arctic Witness" is a Christian romantic suspense. There are some ongoing cases throughout the series, and the reader gets updates on how those cases are progressing in each book. This book can still be read as a standalone.
Ivy wanted children, and Sean agreed back when they married. However, his job as a K9 trooper with a cadaver-finding dog means he sees the worst life has to offer. He changed his mind, which led to divorce. Ivy became a foster mom with hopes to adopt the toddler she cares for. But after stumbling upon a murder, she's now the killer's target. Sean uses his K9 to track down the missing murder victim to prove the murder while his teammates help track down the killer.
The main characters were complex, likable, and reacted realistically to events. Sean and Ivy worked well together and respected each other, but they still had to work through her desire to raise a child and Sean's aversion to the idea. The suspense came from repeated attacks by the bad guy.
Both Sean and Ivy had become Christians after the divorce and felt it'd changed them and how they handled conflict. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable suspense.
Arctic Witness: Alaska K9 Unit Book 6 is by Heather Woodhaven. Ivy West in the ex-wife of Alaska K9 State Trooper Sean West. She lives in Nome and runs the Nome Survival Mission. She has also taught survival techniques at the college level. She had grown up in Nome with survivalist parents and lived in a bunker. She is fostering a thirteen-month-old baby named Dylan and is in the process of trying to adopt him. She finds a dead lady outside the mission and as she is attempting to call for help, she, herself, is kidnapped. Trooper Sean West, a K9 handler and State trooper is just finishing a case when he is told to catch the next plane out with Helena Maddox, Gabriel Runyon and their dogs to search for Ivy. The dead woman’s dog leads Ivy to her body and there she is kidnapped. The man who kidnaps her believes she knows something or has something he wants. Who is after her and why?
Each of the books in this series features at least one handler and one working dog. If the handler is male, he is either assigned or volunteers to help a female, and vice-versa. The books aren't bad or I wouldn't have read so many of them but neither were they great.
The handler in this book is Sean West and the dog is Grace, an Akita Inu mix that is trained as a cadaver dog. In most of the books, the dogs play only a more minor role than I would have liked and what they were trained to do is irrelevant.
In this book, the female love interest is Sean's x-wife, Ivy. I was left with the feeling that their relationship will require years of counseling.
My pet peeve: The child in the book is stated to be and acts like a 13-month-old but the child on the cover has the physical characteristics of a child that is much older.
I absolutely love this K-9 series. Ivy is missing and her ex-husband, Sean West, and his K9 partner are part of the team sent to find her and rescue her. Ivy is a survivalist and is able to escape, but she did see the kidnapper's face which puts her in grave danger. This is a great suspenseful mystery about love and forgiveness, family and understanding. The characters are very likeable, and I found myself cheering for them as they battled the evil greed of the one who wants to silence Ivy. The foster child involved is a nice touch of healing in this story, and will make your heart happy. This is a clean mystery with romance plus a K-9 who understands love more than the human beings at times. Your heart will be full after you finish this book!
This is a super romantic suspense story. Author Heather Woodhaven has a real winner with Arctic Witness, the sixth book in Harlequin's continuity series, Alaska K-9 Unit. Survivalist specialist Ivy West has a killer on her tail and fortunately her ex-husband Alaska State Trooper Sean West is quite capable of keeping her safe. It seems Alaska is experiencing a modern gold rush and a dangerous crook plans to take advantage. I really like the two main characters, Ivy and Sean. They are very brave and resourceful. I enjoyed seeing the Alaska K-9 Unit in action.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Why is Survivalist Ivy West targeted by a murderer? Can she keep her foster child safe from the relentless killer, or her heart from the greater danger of her ex-husband, State Trooper Sean and his K-9 partner Grace?
This is the sixth book in the series Alaska K-9 Unit, written by Heather Woodhaven. No, you don't need to read the series in order to enjoy this story. This novel is well written, keeping you guessing who to trust. For those not familiar with Akitas, the dog breed dealt with here, you'll know more about the breed as well.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story, as I have this entire series, and I can't wait to read the next installment.
More action packed adventure. The romance between Sean and his ex-wife was more believable than some of the others. The baby and K-9's interaction was adorable. I especially enjoyed the heroic action the dogs demonstrated. These are Unlimited books (which I already pay for) the next two in the series are $5, so it looks like I'll miss tying up the lose cases. That is way too much for 183 pages I can read in two short days. Drat!
Well-written, clean, Christian romantic suspense. I am rating it 3 stars because I didn’t like the characters very much. I couldn’t feel the chemistry between them. They were more like strangers or acquaintances than former spouses. I didn’t feel they were a good match and I didn’t feel a connection to either of them. I think it just wasn’t my style but it is otherwise well written and I’m sure others will enjoy it. It just wasn’t the right book for me. DNF.
I really enjoyed this book very much. It was action packed and very hard to put down. I really enjoyed the characters as well. I am looking forward to reading the other books by different authors in the Alaska K-9 Unit series. I have enjoyed all of Heather Woodhaven’s books and I look forward to her next book that comes out that she writes.
This was a fun read. I enjoy reading stories about K9 officers and their K9 partners. Sean's K9 partner Grace is a bit of a matchmaker in this story of Sean and Ivy. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series. I received an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the 2nd book I read by Heather Woodhaven. I liked the cover of the book 📓 it's cute. This book's storyline was okay. I really liked the Christian theme in this story. Some parts of the story made me laugh 😂. I really liked Sean's character. I really liked Ivy's character. I loved ❤ Dylan. I loved ❤ Grace🐕. I loved ❤ Sky 🐕. I really liked the ending.

The book was very informative about Alaska. That is one of the things I like about the Alaska K-9 book. They all tell you something about Alaska. If you like a good christian book this book and the rest would be worth reading. If you like a little romance and some mystery these books are for you.
The sixth entry in this series features two former spouses thrown together by a murder in the wilds of Nome. The suspense and the rekindled romance are totally believable and the characters draw you into their story. Again, the majesty of Alaska and the wonderful canine partners are totally enchanting. Really good, relaxing read.
Sean is a K-9 rescue team member in Alaska and his exwife is a survivalist. Ivy wanted a child and was fostering Dylan hoping for adoption when she was drawn into a murder. Ivy found a dead lady in her yard and was pulled by the murderer into his cabin. After escaping she was being targeted and Sean comes into save her
“Arctic Witness” by Heather Woodhaven is book 6 of the multi-author series Alaska K-9 Unit and can be read without having to read the others (though I’m sure you’ll want to).
It is the perfect blend of mystery and suspense with a second chance romance at the heart of it.
Action packed from the start, this well written story will lead you around remote parts of Alaska and introduce you to some amazing K-9 teams. Murder, mystery and a search through gold territory will keep you riveted until the end!
This book is well written. It has good characters , good storyline, has an adorable child, and dogs with personalities! Alaskan State Trooper Sean West has to help rescue his ex-wife, Ivy West and her young foster son, Dylan, after Ivy has seen a murderer.
Great story about the K9 unit. These stories have a nice Christian touch. I enjoy reading about the series of steps needed to apprehend the criminals. Very enjoyable love story also.
So good! This was a wonderful suspenseful read! Loved the characters. I found Ivy to be very easy to relate to. I loved the twists and turns to catch the man who kidnapped Ivy and murdered the woman she found. It kept me on edge the whole way through. Definitely recommend this one.
