The cycle of dragons has changed Ashan. Now he must use it to save the kingdom.
After stopping two attacks on the kingdom, Ashan yearns to master his connection to the dragons and finally serve as a dragon mage. He has connected to a cycle of dragons, but he’s still only a student and doesn’t understand what it truly means to be a dragon mage.
When word spreads about Vard movement near his homeland, Ashan learns a terrifying truth about the Vard and the devastating steps the king will take to stop them. Worse, he’s the only one who believes that more than the Vard are involved. He needs to find proof, but this time his cycle of dragons might not be enough.
If he can’t stop the attack, not only will his family and friends suffer, but he’ll lose the dragons and the kingdom will be destroyed.
I found this book quite boring. A lot of ruminating by Ashan. Not a lot of character development or interaction. Will try to see if this gets any better in book 4.
The Lost Dragon is the third book in The Cycle of Dragons series by Dan Michaelson & D.K. Holmberg. It is an engaging blend of epic fantasy, coming-of-age adventure, and high-stakes magic. We enter a world where dragons are not just mythical beasts but deeply woven into the fate of kingdoms and the growth of the MC. From the first book, we are drawn into Ashan’s journey from an inexperienced student to someone with immense potential. The author balances action-packed battles with quieter moments of introspection. The pacing is brisk, with each installment building on the last, raising both the emotional and political stakes. Here, the magic system really shone – where the connection between dragon mages and their dragons felt both mystical and yet still grounded, which made the stakes of each magical encounter more believable. The dragons themselves are more than just weapons of war - they have personalities, histories, and a sense of mystery that kept me turning pages. An enjoyable binge-read. Happy Reading…
A refreshing change from the usual Dragon stories. A unique bond between Dragon power and student Dragon mage takes us head long into an exciting tale of power and intrigue. Packed with adventure and magic the characters are well rounded . I have steamed through the books in double quick time desperate to work out who is attacking the Kingdom of not the Vard.?
Enjoy learning more about the other group when the main character goes to learn about their culture and beliefs. And how he soon ties it all together. But they're parts were feels drag out like when he is following the other person down the mountain periods I feel like some of the things were repeated too much just filled space to make the book longer.
I love how these stores show a common young man with character and principles, stands up for what is right! Especially now in USA with so many following the dictates of a want to be dictator! This story is vivid in description and depth with character development. We can feel and identify with each character and each scene in the story! I look forward to reading the next book.
I have diligently tried to stay with this series as it has some interesting plot lines. However this is it, I’m sorry to say as I hate not finishing a series but the writing is so ponderous and it takes a page to say what you could have said in one sentence. So I’m not going to find out if Ashan survives and saves the day but I think I can cope.
A well written and entertaining series. I have enjoyed the books very much. The story line i s enjoyable and I have read 3 books in a week and cannot wait to read more.
These books are well worth reading. My only complaints are that each book is short and could have been combined into one larger book. At times the read was slow with details that were repeated. Overall I enjoyed them and look forward to the next book.
Complex is inadequate to truly describe this series . I am well and truly hooked . The characters, the world building, the twists and turns are amazing !
