Timeless Fairy Tales: Books 4-6: Rumpelstiltskin, The Little Selkie, Puss in Boots

Rate this book
A mysterious mage, a sealed voice, and a magical cat. Three more timeless tales retold. In this special boxset, read books four, five, and six of this bestselling series of fairy tale Rumpelstiltskin, The Little Selkie (Little Mermaid), and Puss in Boots.

Book 4: Rumpelstiltskin Things look grim for seamstress Gemma when she is ordered by an insane king to spin straw into gold--under the threat of death. Her attempts to escape earn her the respect of the mysterious mage Stil. He offers to help her complete the task… for a price. One look at the golden thread, and the greedy king demands Gemma spin more straw into gold again and again. Finally he decrees he will “reward” Gemma by marrying her. With death or a prison of marriage marring her future, Stil offers Gemma a bargain that seems too good to be true. Will Stil defy an entire country to save her?

Book 5: The Little Selkie Dylan, a selkie, makes a terrible mistake when she brashly chases an evil sea witch onto land. Captured and stripped of her pelt, Dylan is her unable to flee to the sea in her sea lion body. An enchantress helps Dylan seal her voice, protecting her magic from being used as a tool of evil at the cost of leaving Dylan no way to contact her family or ask for help. Luckily, Dylan is not alone. She is befriended by Prince Callan, a human prince whose country is under attack by the sea witch. Can they combine the strengths of their two people to defeat this looming threat?

Book 6: Puss in Boots Though she dreams of adventure, Gabrielle—a peasant girl—is given only a cat for her inheritance and is told she must marry to secure her future. It is no surprise that when the cat, Puss, instead offers her a life of heroic excitement Gabrielle jumps at the opportunity. Their adventurous life is complicated by Prince Steffen—a handsome royal who befriends Gabrielle as they work side-by-side to purge monsters and brigands from the countryside. But disaster strikes when Puss and Gabrielle challenge the evil ogre who rules the lands of Carabas with an iron fist. Can Gabrielle find the courage to be the hero her cat says she is?

My pen name is K. M. Shea, but my readers—I prefer to call them Champions—call me Kitty.

I love to write funny, clean stories with strong characters. Books like that are among my favorite to read so naturally I love writing stories like that as well. My philosophy is that life is tough, so books should be something that makes you relax and laugh!

Rumpelstiltskin - 5 stars. I loved this one. Gemma and Stil's story was wonderful. Reading the parts with Angelique after having read her series first is so fun.

The Little Selkie - 3.5 stars. I enjoyed this story and that the retelling was about Selkies instead of mermaids. Dylan and the other characters were fun but the ending felt a bit rushed so I deducted a bit for that.

Puss in Boots - 4 stars. While I adored getting the backstory of Gabrielle meeting Roland I did not bond with Steffan as a love interest. He's not a bad character and the epilogue was sweet I just don't entirely buy the relationship.

I really like these stories and the connections between them. I am looking forward to reading the rest and also rereading them from time to time. I also cannot wait until more of Angelique's story is published.

Loved it!!

Timeless Fairy Tales: Books 4-6 were just as good this go around! I've read them all before as separate books, but it's great to have them bundled together. This version of Rumplestiltskin is one of my all-time favorites. (Stil is seriously one of my favorite MMC of all K. M. Shea's books.) All these stories of true love and sacrifice are so satisfying. The perfect amount of adventure AND romance! The characters are engaging, and the stories keep you turning pages well into the night. Loved it!!

I've been enjoying these fairy tale retelling stories. I like how all of the stories connect together from the first collection to this one. There are more books in this series that I hope to read as well. Some stories I enjoy more than others, but overall I like them all and have been entertained by them.

fun loosely connected fairy tale retellings

This is the second box set of fairy tale retellings. I thoroughly enjoy Rumplestiltskin and Puss in Boots, both were fun twists on less frequently adapted tales.
The little mermaid (selkie) was a good adaptation of the tale, I just don’t enjoy the base tale.
Overall a fun series to read.

Good books

These are good books to read in the evening as the evenings draw in, curled up in a chair, obviously these days no crackling fire to be near, central heating doesn't give the same ambience as a fire. Anyway, highly recommended. The characters are likeable and the plots as you know are fairy tales with little twists here and there. No steamy sex, just romance.

Much better than the first book set

Rumpelstiltskin was one of my favorite book in this series so far.
The Little Selkie who doesn't care much about being a human and to be called Mermaid was an insult.
PUSS IN BOOTS!!! I kept imagined Antonio Banderas' Puss and Gabrielle travelled on adventures together and become heroes in the small villages across the country

Retold tales of old

.. for a modern adult audience. Strong females fighting the forces of evil, its certainly not Disney and that's all to the good. If you want your Princesses waiting to be saved by a dashing Prince riding in to save the day then look elsewhere!

More exceptional fairytales

I am so loving these timeless fairytales. The characters are so real, and the stories so gripping they are impossible to put down. These books are keepers and will often be reread, as with anything written by this author.

Though I love most of them these three might be my favorite of the whole series. I love having them all together in a set.

Books 4-6

Very good. I love how all of these fairy tales are based within a couple of countries and interwoven characters. However they could be read as standalones.

Shea is one of my fav authors, and I really enjoyed reading the accompaning stories to her other series. It filled in a few spots, and gave the secondary characters that I liked more story time.

K.M. Shea is a master of characters. Each one of her protagonists feels like a real person that I would love to meet and hang out with. They each have unique personalities and different hopes and aspirations, and they each have flaws. Her stories are a fun, lighthearted escape from reality that I want my daughters to read someday. The best part about her books is that they remind us that female strength comes in many different forms. Don't get me wrong, I love a female warrior, but sometimes you can fight the bad guys while also being a seamstress, or a business woman, or financial accountant, or while looking for your selkie suit and really good piece of cake. 😉

The author is a mistress in creating different and relatable characters. Look at Gemma, Dylan and Gabrielle - each is a spunky, competent and down-to-earth young woman but each is so very different from the other. Likewise with Stil, Callen and Steffan. The stories are true to the original fairytales with some re-working to fit the world the author has created, but it is her characters who bring that world to vivid engrossing life in the imagination. It is no wonder that KM Shea has become one of my favourite authors. Now to get my greedy hands on more of her work!
