She’s been gifted with The Sight, but she didn’t see this coming ….
When happy, upstanding citizens of New Frisco start to murder complete strangers, then die by suicide an hour or so later, crime reporter A. J. Gregson is determined to find out why.
Teaming up once again with CIIS Special Agent Jack Eagan—a man who’s rapidly becoming more than just another need-to-know fed—A. J. and a handful of others find themselves racing against the clock to stop the bloodshed.
Who or what is compelling these people? And who will be the next to die?
Kathy’s publishing career dates back to 1997, when she published a two-book romance series with Bantam’s Loveswept line. The first book in the series, For Love or Money, won a 1997 Romantic Times Reviewer’s Choice Award.
In 2012, Kathy published two thrillers. Amanda’s Eyes, the first book in a series featuring crime reporter A.J. Gregson, is a paranormal thriller that has garnered a 4.4★ average on Amazon and was a semi-finalist in Kindle Book Review’s 2014 Best Kindle Book Awards. Her second thriller, Why Live?, is dystopian science fiction.
In 2015, Kathy published sweet remixes of her two Loveswept romances. For Love or Money and Hunter’s Shadow are books one and two of what will be the Golden State Hearts Trilogy. The third book in the series, tentatively titled Not Far Enough, is slated for 2016.
The sequel to Amanda’s Eyes is also slated for 2016.
As a communications specialist with a major university and freelance writer, Kathy has written more than three hundred features and blog posts for print and the web. Now retired and writing full-time, she enjoys live performances by her sons, Leo and Nick (both professional musicians); meditation; yoga; reading; puttering around her ninety-plus-year-old American foursquare house; and brisk walks with her rescue dogs, Molly and Lucy.
I started Mind Over Murder and did not want to put it down. I love a good thriller/mystery and Kathy DiSanto did not disappoint. Twists and turns at every chapter and some stellar wit and excitement too. This futuristic thriller brings all kinds of technology and new changes to the “New Frisco” area. I loved the immersive descriptions of the local areas of San Francisco, reimagined into a post earthquake/new age setting.
The characters here are smart, intuitive, and ready to tackle every obstacle that comes their way. I hadn’t read the first book in the series, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying these characters. A.J. is a fast talking, nosey reporter who has all the right connections through years of network building. When she gets entangled with the Jack, in more ways than one, she becomes privy to even more information. Her innate need to find the truth works in her favor as she investigates the death of her good friend Pooch.
Now, I will say honestly that I did mostly figure out the ending before it arrived. There were definitely hints along the way but the ultimate unveiling still had some twists I didn’t expect. No spoilers here, but I would say you will enjoy the ride. The who-done-it of mysteries is one of my favorite things about them. Even when I think I know how it happened, the author always surprises me with something. DiSanto is great at that. The gift of Sight wasn’t as important as the blurb implies, but it certainly added to the sleuthing abilities of our dear A.J.
While this story is a bit slow to build, I think you’ll enjoy the pacing and characters. A.J. is an excellent lead and I loved reading about how she navigates her various contacts and relationships to get to the bottom of everything. While the reporter being allowed into crime scenes and interrogations is a little far fetched for me, it didn’t distract too much from the actual story. I want to go read the first book in this series now, and look forward to more from this author!
Talk about creative genius, woah! This was next level. I absolutely loved the futuristic world the author invented for us. I would be first in line for an UpLink. The book was so fast-paced and original. The banter between the characters was witty and fun! I could see this book made into an episode of Black Mirror. The book was put together really well and I loved the ending! I’m glad I’m not a gamer. Shuki is a total BA. She deserves her own spinoff series exploring her world in the dark web. My only critique is I wanted some bump and grind action between A. J. and Jack! Hoping there will be a book #3 soon!
This was a fast read for me. Not particularly because it was an easy read but rather because it kept me turning the pages. I tend to love sarcasm and the dialog between the characters made this fun for me. I will say that there were times I felt the conversation had an odd rhythm to it for the reader. There was a lot of dialog, and this can sometimes cause the reading to seem uneven.
Overall, an interesting take on a somewhat new storyline. I liked the mystery wrapped up in a sort of fantasy. Good characters and mystery in a new world. Mind over Murder is Book 2 of a series titled “A. J. Gregson”. Kathy DiSanto has several books published. All have good reviews. https://amzn.to/3cXAS9C
It took 9 years for Kathy DiSantos to publish her 2nd A. J. Gregson book. But it was well worth the wait.
A. J. Gregson identifies the body of her friend Sean "Pooch" Reilly. She doesn't believe he died by suicide. So begins her investigation into mind manipulation and gaming, teaming up with Agent Jack Eagan and New Frisco Police Detective Mike Osburn
A paranormal murder mystery set in the future. Read it, you will enjoy the story!
