I’m Emily Sanderson, and I used to think life was simple. I got good grades, had great friends, and I was aiming for college. My life was going to be everything I’d ever dreamed of.
Until I was turned into a vampire.
Now I’m locked up in a cell at The Paranormal Program, and I’m struggling to deal with … well, everything. How can I accept what I am when all I want is blood?
Then I meet Mara, a girl who walks through my dreams, and who offers me a cure. But am I willing to pay the price?
Amy Hart is the author of young adult paranormal novels about vampires, witches, and other magical beings. Her love of paranormal fiction began at an early age when she would routinely check out the maximum number of books allowed on her library card. After growing up and completing a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Music, and a Master of Arts (Hons) in Art History, she found her way back to fiction. Born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand, she adores cookies, singing, and collecting too many journals.
This was a quick read and a great introduction to the first book, The Sapphire Eclipse. Emily is a recently turned vampire who’s being kept at the Paranormal Program. While she’s there she’ll get the help she needs to learn to cope with her transformation and eventually get her back out into society where she won’t be a threat to the human population. But she struggles with the blood lust and the fact that she’ll never be human again. When she starts having dreams where she’s offered a cure to turn her back into a human, she’ll do anything she can to get her hands on it. But what if the price is too high? If Emily doesn’t complete the program, she’ll be locked up forever in the penitentiary. While it’s not necessary to read this prequel before starting the Sapphire Eclipse, I’d definitely recommend it! It gives you a better understanding of what Emily’s been through, and there’s some reference to her time there every now and then.
A good, solid paranormal story. It starts out a bit dark, but that improves pretty quickly. It never really turns light but Emily learns a lot through the program. There are a few harrowing scenes yet it ends on a positive note. I wonder where the series will lead.
Easy-to-read. Entertaining. Great world building. Haunting. Tear-jerker. Tragic. Twisted. Unpredictable. Whimsical. Wonderful characters.
I received a review copy of this book from a third party. This is my honest review.
Been waiting for this book to come out a while. Enjoyed it and devoured it. Enjoyed some different story twists to the usual with vampires. The different character building was good. Looking forward to seeing what will happen with the next books.
