Mark Coleridge is living his dream playing football for his all-time favorite team, the Savannah Sharks. Standing on the field on gameday, he looks up at the Jumbotron and stops dead when he sees Tessa Black, his high school sweetheart. Standing next to her is a little boy who looks suspiciously like…Mark. Is that why she contacted him out of the blue?
Suddenly, Mark’s world becomes more than football. He’s a father… and he’s still in love with the girl who ghosted him five years ago. Sure, he’s angry she kept his son from him, but when he learns why, it just makes him love Tessa more. But does she feel the same?
Tessa knew if she told Mark she was pregnant, his dreams of playing in the NFL would have been over. That was something she couldn’t do. Now she’s ready to let him back into her life; she just isn’t sure how far.
Mark’s a good dad, and Tessa can’t help but fall for him all over again. But Mark seems to be the same naïve dreamer he’d always been and doesn’t realize he’s one injury away from unemployment. Her focus has to be on her son, and she’s not sure their love will be enough to keep them together…

Is there anything louder than a rowdy, home-game crowd after a touchdown? Even though he’d only been the Savannah Sharks’ rookie running back for a few months, Mark Coleridge’s knew the deafening sound well. He was often the cause of it. His focus was already causing a stir in the league and it’s exactly what had helped propel him to where he was standing at that very minute; midfield during a preseason game in Sharks Stadium, surrounded by his new teammates and a roaring crowd. He could thank his focus for the touchdown he’d just scored, but the truth was sometimes his laser vision kept him from seeing the big picture.
Which was exactly why he still couldn’t believe that he’d sweated his way through two quarters.
It’s halftime already?
“Damn, rookie, nice play,” quarterback and team captain James Sullivan shouted to him, a smile visible under his mask. “Who you trying to impress with that flashy TD?”
Mark grinned back but didn’t answer as they jogged off the field.
Oh, no big deal. Basically everybody. The hometown crowd that’s cheered me on since high school, my grandpa aka my biggest fan, and maybe, just maybe … her.
He snatched his helmet off hoping he could banish the thought from his brain before it was fully formed.
Nope. Don’t go there. Not now.
There was still so much to get used to in so little time, it was practically an alternate dimension. And though he was still getting to know his teammates, Mark was nervous about making a wrong move. He didn’t want to screw this opportunity up. The dream he’d held since childhood. The professional break he’d been counting on since college.
A few other teammates clapped him on the back as they started filing along the sidelines toward the tunnel to the locker room. Fans collected behind the railing, screaming the last names of their favorite players. Mark didn’t hear Coleridge among the chorus—yet. But he would soon enough, if he had his way. As long as he could show America that he was the rising star he’d promised to be.
The Jumbotron at the end of the field snagged his attention as the camera began panning through the audience. Excited grins and cheeks streaked with the trademark jade and black colors of the team flashed across the 160-foot-wide screen. And then the cameras focused on the Sharks’ mascot, bouncing near the sidelines with a group of children.
Mark paused on his way in to watch. This was one of his favorite parts of live games—the memories made, the way kids could get involved with the sport. A dark-haired kid jumped up and down beside Sharky, a friend hopping right beside him. Just as Mark was ready to follow the last of his teammates to the locker room beneath the stadium, an eager mother came into view.
Glistening blonde hair pulled back into a sleek ponytail, fair skin despite the fact that the sun blazed stronger than ever at this point in the Georgia summer. And that smile—the beautiful mouth that Mark knew he’d never forget, not in the six years since the last time he’d kissed it.

STORY: I like this story and in some ways it was sweet to me. I love Mark’s and Tessa’s second chance at romance . I think Mark could have been a little more upset not knowing about his son. Mark is a rookie in the NFL. He is navigating being a new player in the league and learning he has a 5-year-old son. Tessa sacrifices her happiness in the past so Mark, has an opportunity. When they reconnected, I love that they fell back into old routines that they were trying to avoid.
CHEMISTRY: I liked their physical chemistry. Because of Mark’s personality in this book, I already find him sexy and his connection with Tessa magnifies that for me.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS So Tessa’s co-workers were so jealous of her, and it made this a bit more interesting when jealousy shows its ugly side. I am looking forward to seeing what this series has to offer.
Overall, a nice second chance romance that I found nice and sweet.
***I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read and hope this review was helpful.
I received a free copy of this book for my honest review.
I don’t tend to read many football stories, but I do get a hankering once in a while. This one was great and sure hit the spot. It’s funny and cute, yet rich in details. It’s not overly detailed in the sports end of things though. Well written.

An exciting new series start. Mark is a hot football player who has just found out who has a mini me. Tessa is the woman he never got over. This author knows how to write quick stories with great characters. The are witty and page turning with a guaranteed happy ending.
This was an incredible story. Mark and Tessa were high school sweethearts. They broke up and she never told him that she was pregnant because she didn't want to hold him back from his dreams. Years later he finds out and they find the way back to each other. Can they have a HEA?
When running back Mark Coleridge began his rookie season he never thought that things were going to change drastically in his personal life. When he seen his childhood best friend and ex-girlfriend Tessa standing at a meet and greet he was to say at the very least shocked. Oh, but that wasn’t the only shocking thing he learned that day because that was when he found out he had a six year old son, Angus.
This was a feel good book with Tessa being a good mom with a job teaching in elementary and the reason she didn’t tell Mark of her high school pregnancy was for a very good reason. A reason Mark understood because of the type of person that Tessa was.
It was a great feeling because the family dynamics was positive when it came to Angus. The relationship that Mark and Tessa had was heartwarming. The problem came at the intense scrutiny that Tessa was feeling from the private parochial school she worked at especially when their private lives became so public. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would love to read more from this author.
Book One in a New sports romance series from Leslie North. Great characters and a really good story that keep you glued to the pages. I read this in about 3 1/2 hours , and really enjoyed it, looking forward to Red Zone Maxwells book.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
I really enjoyed reading First Down the first book in Leslie Norths new series Sharks Football. Football star Mark Coleridge has just found out that his high school sweetheart Tessa Black was pregnant 6 years old. Rather then have Mark ruin his chances at a football career she broke up with him and kept the baby a secret. Now Mark is back playing pro football and 5 year old Angus has a dad. Mark is shocked to found out that he is a dad and mad that he has lost out on all of the early years. Loved watching the two of them deal with her job as a teacher and his as an NFL star and all of the hurdles thrown their way.
OMG this was such a beautiful and so different second chance romance!
I love this trope because it’s all about forgiveness and understanding. That’s what this couple showed all the way.
Mark was the sweetest person in the world. I loved the fact that the moment he knew he had a child, he put him in the first place. He took the responsibility and took care of them as the family he always dreamt of having with Tessa. I swooned with how patient and understanding he was with her, he wanted her to be successful and wanted to protect her above all. It was so sweet seeing him trying to re kindle the flame.
Tessa was such a badass mom and a sweet teacher. I hated seeing her being attacked and ridiculed by hypocritical people who didn’t really know her. I loved how she always tried to do what was best for Angus and how ahe never gave up on her dreams even when she was alone and with no support. It was beautiful to see her leaning in Mark and learning to trust in him again.
I loved that Mark and Tessa were still in a young age and they dealt with every situation with so much maturity and focus. I loved how they communicated their needs and prioritized their child together and how they built up their family again by making choices in common agreement and respecting each other’s bounaries. The steam was off charts! I loved to see them remember how much they have always loved each other.
This was a beautiful story and I can’t wait to read more of this author. Thank you, NetGalley and the author for the kind copy if this book.
So here we have a second chance romance that is mostly clean with a little smexy times. We have Mark and Tessa who have a past. They were high school sweethearts. Mark was on a path to have a football career. Tessa did not want to hold him back and decided to walk away from their relationship. Tessa has kept a secret from Mark. He finds out what that secret is when he sees a little kid that looks like him at a football game. Now he wants answers. Luckily Tessa reached out to Mark to catch up with him only to be put on the spot. So now we will see if they will get another chance at love again. They are definitely tested while reconnecting. Can they get past all the obstacles? Can they find love again. I can say that we do get a happily ever after!
This is a sweet second chance romance between Tessa and Mark. She breaks his heart when she breaks up with him before leaving for college. Unbeknownst to him she's pregnant and doesn't want to ruin his chance at an NFL career. Six years later he sees a mirror image of himself as a child and discovers he's a father to six year old. Angus. This is their story. The author does a great job bringing strong characters and painting her scenes perfectly. I loved the chemistry between Mark and Angus and reading their story. I stayed up late into the night reading this well written book. It moves fluidly and is a great read. Absolutely a fantastic start to a new series!!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

Tessa is a single mother and new teacher at a Catholic school. She takes her son Angus to a classmates birthday party and runs into Mark, her high-school sweetheart and Angus' father. Mark, a rookie NFL player, is shocked to learn he has a son but soon falls into the roll of Daddy. Everything seems to be going well until life throws them a series of curve balls.
Great book with wonderful characters and a great story line. I loved it.

First Down was my first book by Leslie North. I’ve seen and heard of this author from various sources and was curious. As a huge sports romance fan, I jumped at the chance to read this book. First Down is also a second chance/surprise baby romance which is not usually my thing, but that I enjoyed here. This book was a quick, easy, sexy and satisfying read. I enjoyed it and look forward to the other two books in the series. TBR and Enjoy!
I love a good sports romance and this one is no exception! A football player? Yes, please! I loved the characters, they had a lot of life in this book, and the story was entertaining throughout! Plus, it touched on what we don't usually read in romance novels so I was glad to see that too.
Thank you NetGalley and Victory Editing for the earc in return for an honest review.
Une petite romance simple, douce et mignonne. Mark et Tessa sont super mims. Y’a un peu de rebondissements quand même. Une histoire sympa et tranquille.
This was a good read. Tessa and Mark were high school sweethearts. Now he finds out that he has a 5 year old son with her. He of course is pissed but understands why she made her choice. Luckily they work everything out and get their happy ending.
Excellent story Rookie football player Mark knew he was going to see his high school sweetheart in a few days, but was surprised to see her in the stands at one of his first games with a little boy that looked quite a bit like him. That did throw him a bit. The little boy is so sweet. I loved his character and personality. He loved having a daddy at last and they got along like gangbusters. Tessa had some problems dealing with his fame, but so did he at times. The story moved along quickly and it was fun to read

Mark Coleridge is a starting as rookie. His dreams are coming true. While walking through the tunnel he looked at the Jumbotron ad he saw Tessa. His first and only love. He couldn’t believe his eyes. His teammate was calling for him to come on. A meet and greet with kids Mark had a little boy walk up to him. This boy looked familiar to him. He saw Tessa standing in the background. He didn’t know that him and Tessa shared a child together. He asked the little boy what his name was. He said Angus. Angus was the name they decided on when they were in high school. Tessa met up with Mark and explained why she kept it a secret. Mark can’t believe he has a son. Mark gets to know Angus. Tessa teaches at the school her son goes to. They grin in her face and talk behind her back. They give her a hard way to go. Tessa has to decide on her career or love life. Amazing story

My Rating - 4.25/5
One day, Tessa suddenly contacted Mark for the first time after their breakup six years ago and dropped the bomb about Angus, their son. When Tessa had broken up with Mark six years ago, she was pregnant with their son which she never told him about. They were highschool sweethearts and before that, they were best friends. Mark was a football player who recently joined the NFL team and Tessa was a school teacher. Anyway, Mark officially met his son and started spending time with him. Soon enough, both Tessa and Mark realized the old spark between them wasn't really gone. They soon resumed their relationship from where they had left. Everything was going great until an almost naked picture of Tessa was leaked by someone. Tessa faced some serious challenges because of that scandal at her work as well as with her co-workers who were already bad mouthing her because her boyfriend was famous. At some point, Tessa was really overwhelmed and asked Mark for some space for a while to figure things out which she did. They both did actually. She quitted her toxic environmental job and focused on her family with Mark.
This book quite surprised me to be honest. I seriously expected something similar to the author's previous books but I really enjoyed this book. Heck, I loved it! Tessa's colleagues and boss really pissed me off. Like seriously? They're basically asking her to focus less on her relationship with 'the famous football player' as well as her son because the mothers of the students were jealous of her and because of that they complained about her. Where the heck is professionalism? And they had no right to comment on her personal life at all. They practically bullied her. What the heck is wrong with people? Ugh! And the guy who posted Tessa's photo? I'm really speechless with his reasoning right now. And Mark only punched him and everything was okay? Wow! Anyway, moving along, I'm glad picked this book.
There was so much mossed potential in this book which was a huge shame as I did enjoy the characters and the general gist of the story.
Mark is an NFL rookie who finds out Tessa, his ex girlfriend from high school, has kept his son from him for 6 years. I really liked Mark and Tessa as a couple and they definitely had some chemistry and background for their relationship to move so quickly. The storyline of them learning to coparent and becoming a couple was a nice, easy read but almost a little too easy. Mark got over the fact Tessa had kept his child from him way too easily and there were a few roadbumps and problems that got swept to the side way too easily. Especially one that just disappeared at rhe end before the epilogue and wasn't discussed again! It was almost like the author could come up with problems but didn't know how the characters would actually deal with them or get over them. There was a depth that was lacking which the fact that the book was only 200 pages definitely added too. It just isn't enough time to get a full romance story out with depth, character building and some smut on the side. The smut is okay but a little lacking as well. The writing was okay but I had assumed it was a debut, which it isn't. So sadly I won't be continuing the series or reading this author again as there are much better sports romances to read.
Please note that I was gifted this ebook in exchange for an honest review.
Mark Allen Coleridge and Tessa May Black shared a history. They both grew up in the same rural Georgia trailer park. They grew up with limited funds, learning that wishes and desires sometimes had to be delayed if money were required to fulfill those wishes or desires. And, they both grew up knowing that their way out of trailer park life was education.
Both were bright and eager to learn and achieve. And while Tessa’s focus was to use her brains to move forward—to gain scholarships and financial aid for college, Mark, who was also bright and achieved academically, was also an athlete of great ability. So while beautiful Tessa’s with her blonde ponytail helped lead the cheering crowd, the athlete Mark made his presence known as captain and running back for their high school’s football team. And, it was not surprising, when the young friends with so many parallel life experiences became best friends, sweethearts and then, in their senior year, lovers.
But, unexpectedly they parted after high school, or rather Tessa put an end to their relationship after graduation as if they had not shared a relationship since the seventh grade. Tessa turned her back not just on Mark, but also on Mark’s family who had been the only real family she had known. As an only child of a mother who walked out when Tessa was 10 and a dad who had travelled for business, Tessa had often shared meals and nurturing under the loving eye of Mark’s mom, Lettie. But, right after graduation, she broke ties with Mark and his family when she moved to Savannah were her grandmother lived.
Now, 6 years later, Fate has brought the former lovers to the same town, Savannah, Georgia. 23-year-old blond-haired and brown-eyed Mark has been signed as the running back for the local major league football team, the Savannah Sharks, and the team is playing a preseason opener at the club’s home stadium in Savannah. As he is walking back into the locker room at half-time, emotionally buzzing after running out the first touchdown of his rookie career, Mark turned to watch the jumbotron’s images. But, his heart stops when he glances a face—a beautiful face with greenish-grey eyes, a sweet smile, and blonde hair gathered into a high ponytail—his only love, Tessa Black. But most disconcerting is observing the child beside her—a young boy—a blonde-headed boy with brown eyes—a face that is the mirror image of his own face when he was a boy.
North invites the readers to open their minds and their hearts to two childhood friends and lovers who must learn to trust each other as they explore adult emotions of love. As they learn to heal the hurts of the past, to give life to dreams of the love and family in the present. North explores the ways in which the dreams and passions of individuals can merge into something magical while also struggling with the tensions of the past and present.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review ARC, but I enjoyed the reading experience so much that I bought a copy for my “read again” collection.
First Down, Sharks Football #1 by Leslie North Rating: 4-stars Summary: Mark is an NFL rookie running back. He’s young, hot, and talented. He also happens to have a 5-year-old son he does not know about, but it about to meet. Tessa is Mark’s high school sweetheart and the mother of his son (you know the one he does not know about, yet…). She got pregnant senior year and before she could work up the courage to tell Mark she was pregnant, he laid out his plans to play college ball and make it to the NFL. She fled and hid her secret so that Mark would be able to pursue his dream. Now, Tessa is in Savannah, where Mark is playing for the Sharks. During the game Tessa’s son, Angus, is on the jumbotron and Mark happens to see both Angus and Tessa. Tessa had also reached out to Mark to ask to meet up with him in several days. They meet up much sooner, that night in fact. In short, Mark figures out Angus is his son and Tessa fills in the blanks. Mark is hurt at first that she did not tell him, although he does understand her reasoning. They fall into old habits and start their relationship back up. All goes well until the paparazzi get involved with a stolen photo of Tessa from Mark’s phone. Tessa’s job as a religious private school is in jeopardy and Mark’s answer is that he will take care of her with his football money. Tessa is frustrated because while has the money now, that is not a long-term plan and after growing up in poverty, she does not want that for their son. They take a break where Mark figures out a back up plan and Tessa realizes she cares more about Angus, Mark and their family than a job that clearly does not want her. They end up moving in together and trying for another baby. I enjoyed this book overall, hence the 4-star rating. That said, I do wish there was more substance to this story. I’ve read several of Leslie North’s books and I know they tend to be on the shorter side for what I typically read, but this is the first one where I felt like there was really substance missing that would have given more to the story. For instance, when they take a break, Mark figures out a backup plan and Tessa discovers she really does not want her job since they treat her horribly. Also, the ending ties up so quickly and yet leaves you with Mark and Tessa moving in together the following Spring, but that’s all it is, just moving in together. Call me old fashioned but there is no talk of a more permanent relationship or marriage, just let’s move in and have another baby. If you want a fun, quick, and steamy contemporary read, then enjoy this book. I received a free advance reader copy via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

Mark Coleridge and Tessa Black had been best friends since the sixth grade and boyfriend/girlfriend since late high school. They had planned a life together, but right after prom Tessa broke up with Mark giving him no reason crushing his soul. Then six years later Mark was playing his first NFL preseason game, when he looks up on the jumbotron seeing a little blond headed boy that looks familiar and near by was Tessa Black. He was shocked needless to say, but she had reached out to him wanting to see him as she had something to tell him. He was going to see her on Sunday. After the game the team had a meet and greet with a little boys birthday party. The next thing Mark knew the little boy from the jumbotron was in front of him, and he looked just like he did at that age and Tessa was here too. She was standing back in the corner away from everyone. Mark finished signing all the footballs for all the little boys at the party. Then he looked around for Tessa but she was gone. Later, that evening he got a text from Tessa wanting to meet that night instead of Sunday, so they did. He found out he had a son named Angus. He was very hurt and mad in the beginning that she did not tell him that she was pregnant, but she explained that she wanted him to have his dream. He might not have got to if he had know about Angus. He might not have become a NFL player and that his dream and his family were depending on him to make it big and help them out. Tessa taught at an exclusive private school where she was continually being questioned by the administration of her dedication to teaching. Mark and Tessa discovered immediately that the old chemistry was still there, but they needed to take it slow. There were far more things to consider this time around, and Angus had to come first. This was an exciting read with an inside look at how a NFL team works on the field but how they work as a team internally. A snap shot of teachers and administrators working together even teachers working together. Like some things in life it was not a pleasant experience, but they endured it.

Mark Coleridge is a pro football player for the Savannah Sharks. He is living the dream, making big bucks, and helping his family live a better life. During a preseason game, Mark looks up at the jumbotron and sees his high school sweetheart, Tessa Black. Mark also sees a young boy with Tessa who looks very familiar to him. Mark asks the coach if they can to a meet and greet with the birthday party that Tessa and the boy are part of. Mark introduces himself to the boy, Angus, while he is signing his football. Tessa hightails it out of the locker room with Angus after the two meet. Tessa knows she can't put off the truth any longer. Tessa meets Mark at a wine bar where she confesses that Angus is Mark's son, and she had planned on telling him she was pregnant the night of their high school prom but changed her mind when he started talking about their future. Mark is angry at first about not knowing his son but soon realizes what Tessa sacrificed to raise Angus on her own. Mark and Tessa also realize their feelings are still there and as strong as when they were teenagers. As Tessa and Mark traverse co parenting, Tessa is subject to malicious gossip at the private school where she teaches and Angus goes to school. What happens when a sexy picture Tessa sent to Mark's cell phone is leaked to the press and tabloids? Will Tessa lose her job because of the leaked photo? Can Mark find out who leaked the photo of Tessa? Will Tessa push Mark away to protect her job and herself? Will Mark fight for the family he and Tessa have together? I really enjoyed First Down by Leslie North. I loved the chemistry and love between Tessa and Mark. Mark and Tessa are a great couple who deserved a second chance at love and a life together with their son. I would highly recommend getting First Down by Leslie North. I received an free copy of this book via by Hidden Gems Books, and I am leaving my honest review.
