My Childhood Friends Are Trying To Kill Me #1-7

[Soggubchingudeur'i Nareul Jug'iryeo Handa]

Rate this book

I loved the first half of this, but it really went downhill towards the end. I think my issue is that from the title I expected a little more of her childhood friends trying to kill her... But they actually accepted her identity pretty quickly; then the story devolved into a reverse-harem with two of the men being extremely twisted and definitely need therapy and/or prison time and the woman who is too naive to see it or doesn't know how to deal with it and thus ends up just looking past it, and one man who's so unbelievably daft I don't understand how he could have possibly survived in the world. I honestly just skimmed the last 15 chapters or so so I really don't have strong thoughts on the very end. I do recommend the first half of the book though, lol.

2.5/5 ⭐

Super misleading title and the story started to feel dragged out a quarter way through. I shouldn't have forced myself to finish. I was hoping the male lead was someone else too :/

The first half of this one is rather engaging. Horribly sad for the most part but the mashup of transmigrator, regression, otome game, and reverse harem cliches works better than you might first imagine. You want Leila/Leo to succeed in her gambits to survive. She gets to soften some of the trauma for those around her. It seems to not rush key moments but allows for time jumps so you don't spend thousands of words waiting for the story to progress.
However, as the narrative continues it makes weirder and weirder choices. The ingredients required for her alchemy change dramatically. She gets a magical relic finally and then never uses it or returns to to clear her name. Eventually her game system which has been popping out quests, advice, and money requests just seems to disappear. She gets a loan for all the money she needs, her dragons disappear, and the avatar starts routinely swearing, lying, or ignoring her. She will get potions and not use them for some reason. She leaves items out of her storage boxes so they can be stolen or damaged. She says she will leave the next day and stays for a month. Our spunky brave kid becomes a shell of herself and if she does try to make a healthy decision for her self, she literally loses control of her body and is forced to do a thing anyway. It doesn't make a lot of sense.
And then the elephant in the room is that all the relationships of this story become trash. Almost all of the male leads go from tragic heroes to yandere psychos seemingly overnight. They abuse her, kidnap her, threaten her, drug her, physically harm her, and manipulate Leila and she loves them for it. Ugh. Ruth uses strangers and belittles them for a girl he cares about who doesn't honestly care about him just the idea of him. The Emperor remarried and refused to move on full or stay rooted to the past and then murdered his own wife in madness. Her aunt is cheated on. Her uncle can't get over his sister... oh and after promising to protect her from her family caves because the emperor looks sad, forcing her to stay in an environment destroying her. Her dad says he is heartbroken for how he treated her but refuses to listen to her wishes and tries to marry her off after he knows the truth. It's such a toxic mess I was pretty sure the McGuffin wish of the philosopher's stone was turning back the timeline where she drowned herself in the pond like an isekai butterfly effect adaptation. So... yeah, like the other review said... it starts good, but I can't say I enjoyed it as I pushed through to the end.

Fecha frustrante. Não vale a leitura.

It’s done but at what cost...?

Also the title is false advertising: “My Childhood Friends Are Trying to Kill Me” doesn’t even take up one arc the story. It took 2, maybe 3 chapters for the ‘childhood friends’ to go from “I will kill you” to “I will follow and help you”.

Also at first Kalix was a somewhat dumb but funny character to read about, towards the middle he became a stone wall with no listening skills. I went from thinking he’s the best option for the ML to “Please don’t pair Lelia with him, please”.

I have too many opinions about the entire thing, but I’m too lazy to actually write them down. Basically tho: this plot has so much potential and 98% of it is unrealized. There were a few scenes here and there that seemed to grasp at the overall potential, but in the end everything just fell short.

Edit: Also, I’m sure they won’t see it, but I still want to thank the translators at Rain of Snow for translating this book. Without their efforts, I wouldn’t have the opportunity to witness this hot mess. I truly appreciate it.

This one is absolutely so good!the people who hated/disliked it don’t understand the complexity of the story. The characters are extremely complex and also I’ve seen a lot of people being mad over the protagonist being “naive”
But actually she isn’t naive for forgiving Griffith for the bad things he did. She’s extremely traumatized and the only reason why she didn’t kill herself like she did in her past life was the thought of her friends, now imagine one of the people who gave you reason to live does bad things to you. But you can’t bring yourself to hate them because they are special to you, more than anybody else. That’s my opinion

This book started out great amazing even I must say, well but in later chapters I think the author really played roulette with chapters and plot. Griffith lustful bastard (I bet he wanted 3 some with the FMC), The MMC Oscar dude was over himself and he made his trauma his whole trauma and Calix man was just very big overgrown child who sees things with his leisure. The only normal person was Romeo and that's why I liked him as the endgame.
Well FMC I bet I can trust my 12 year old neighbor kid to make better life choices for sure

I'm a victim of this. The manhwa cover baited me into thinking "oh this decent guy is the male lead" so I began reading it and found out HE ISN'T EVEN THE MALE LEAD AT ALL.

Anyways, I was convinced I have to read the manhwa until the end but then I realised oh my god it gets even worse. Of course, Oscar is the male lead since he fits the stereotype of the emo and sad male lead with a depressive background... what was I expecting. 3/5 because it gave me entertainment.
