Empty Earth

Rate this book
She calls them ghosts, blinded by the night, feeding on the last vestiges of the human race.

Awaking to find everyone has gone, James leaves the family farm and heads back to London looking for answers. What he finds are monstrous creatures. Carnivorous, vile. Brutal. Survival is hard. The survivors are harder.

Finding a little girl on the run, James begins to piece together the disappearance of mankind, and fights to keep the child from the ghosts … and threats far worse.

Empty Earth is a post-apocalyptic horror novel that contains graphic scenes, usually about people dying in disgusting ways. There is really foul language throughout. This is post-apocalyptic extreme.

I seriously enjoyed this. Mr. Ash paints a very bleak post-apocalypse indeed (just like in his other novella, Itch).

The pace was excellent and the writing brutal as usual. The suspense was incredible and the plot (a little too much suspension of belief required but then it's an apocalypse, so...) was well fleshed out. Reads more like a novel than a novella. Recommended.

I really enjoyed this one. It's another zombpoc adjacent story with interesting creatures and a cool main character that gets put through the proverbial wringer. It was a rather intense read with little to no extra fluff which made for a tense and fast reading experience.

Don't let the extreme label scare you if you're not into that genre, personally I found it to be no more graphic/extreme than my normal apocalyptic fare.

More of a 4.25 than a true 4.

Empty Earth by Ash Ericmore is a very interesting story about an apocalypse.
There are monstrous killer creatures and disturbed human survivors. In this first book, we follow the thrilling adventures of the two main characters.
I look forward to reading the second book in this captivating series.
I recommend it!

A bleak survival story. James and others like him wake up and realize almost everyone has disappeared, and in their stead are a few carnivorous monsters.

I was in suspense reading this; so worried about Ellie and curious about what happened to all the other humans.

Favourite Line(s): “Pretty much nothing covered his flesh from his chest to his cock. Not even skin for the most part. James could see weird sausage-like organs and things that looked like they’d fit on a full English breakfast where his belly should have been.”

Can’t wait to dive into the next book in the series!

Great read

This isn't your normal Ash book as in there's build up. It doesn't jump straight to the gore although there is enough to satisfy. This starts slows building the world getting to know James and Elle.
It was an adventure but with swearing and blood my favourite things. I'm off to grab book 2 now.

Think 28 Days Later meets The Quiet Place and you’ve basically got Empty Earth. A pretty standard apocalyptic horror that deals with not only the horrors of the alien invasion that the characters are enduring but also the always present threat of humans versus each other and the lengths people will go to to survive.

White ghosts apocalypse

What an apocalypse it is/was. Just everyone disappearing was frightening enough but add in big vicious beasts that can jump high and far, eat their prey (humans) and are really hard to kill. And you have a truly terrifying apocalypse. Is Ellie the only female? James knows the child needs him but he needs her just as much. It’s impossible not to become invested in this story. It is much too real!

People killed for hate. The creatures? They killed for food.

The world as everyone knew it seemed to of vanished seemingly overnight, as you were either awakened all alone or simply just vanish like a puff of air. James was spending time at the all farm house he grew up with his parents when morning struck and nobody was home. Confused by the absenteeism of his parents, he set off in his vehicle for the small town of Hadling, London to see it too was deserted. No people, not even animals seemed to exist as James tries to recapture the memories he no longer has. With little actual plans in mind, he sets off back to his flat in the city where he begins to interact with the White Ghosts. Haunting creatures that could survive fire and multiple gunshot sounds. They could fly and leap and run. The only weakness they seemed to of had was the inability to see in the dark. It was weeks into this new apocalypse where he spies his first actual person; ten year old Ellie attempting the run and hide from the creature. Without much fore thought he causes a diversion before hours later taking her hand from the darkened alley and inviting her inside. Living most of his new found isolation off of alcohol, taking care of a child wasn't something he was prepared for, and as time went on and they learned to lean on each other for survival, he finds a fondness like a father figure to the little girl. It'll be on one of their scavenges they encounter Stanny and his nine other survivalist, where they would rub his skin the wrong way. Taking a bizarre attraction towards Ellie, they only she is the last female left alive. In an effort to keep her for themselves, they lured James out before shooting him in the shoulder and locking him in a basement during a scavenge. Against every odd he survived, and low on blood but pumped full of adrenaline, he uses every trick to slaughter the entire group to get Ellie back to him. After many close calls, they edges their way from the city limits and find themselves back to the Farm he woke up alone on. With hopes of surviving, he's horrified to discover the creatures had the ability to reflect and learn, as the same one has been stalking him since the very first night.

Underneath an ad-board on the other side of the street, one of them crouched. Its elongated forearms resting its huge clawed hands between its feet as it crouched. Pale and naked. The creature’s skin—whatever it was that passed for skin, anyway—glistened in the pale sunlight. A sort of translucent blue hue. At night it could be mistaken for white. During the day it changed colour depending on how the light hit it. Deep scarring clung to this ones face. Motherfucker had seen some action. Its eyes were deep-set within its features, and without hair, an abomination. James noticed the enormous organ hanging between its legs. A male.

Empty...

This was a different take on an end of the world book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The whole story follows the new life of the main character. He meets other survivors, with some being good and others evil. Some rather interesting monsters and loads of questions. If only he could find some answers. Eventually there is a girl who becomes the second lead. A continuing storyline is obvious as you near the end, that creates new questions. This was a worthwhile read.

Believe it or not, but this was my first ever Ash Ericmore book. I really enjoyed it! The basic premise of creature feature apocalypse was very cool, and the creatures unique and interesting. Maybe I'm desensitized at this point, but this book is touted as extreme and I definitely wouldn't put that label on it. It's no worse than many other dystopian books out there, so don't let the "extreme" label deter you if that's not your thing. 3.75 stars

An amazing start to what I feel will be a great collection of it carries on the way this book does, a little reminiscent of A Quiet Place but only really because of the creatures the rest feels very original and the pacing was good, some slight spelling and grammar error but can easily be looked past with how great the story is!

Good!

Monsters that don't see well in darkness!? Well, that's a world premiere for me! But don't think that'll be easier to survive: you'll be dead wrong...
