The illusion of the Self is the belief that you are your thoughts, in other words, the personal identification with the voice in your head, when in reality you are the awareness beneath that constant mind chatter. Noticing the thoughts rather than attaching to them may seem a subtle change in perspective, but in fact, it is a huge paradigm shift. Once you have taken a step back from your thoughts by not attaching to them, they become like clouds passing across a clear sky. You will notice the interesting patterns and shapes they form as they float by, coming from nothing and returning to nothing, but they cannot touch the background perfection of the azure blue stillness, the Absolute that holds all.You are not a separate person, the I am, you are the I before I am, the pure presence before separation. You are not a separate person experiencing consciousness you are consciousness experiencing a separate person. This book aims to liberate you from your thoughts by revealing you are a slave to them. A new way of perceiving life will open up to you and you will be free to experience the world as it is, as opposed to how it has been created through your conditioning and sustained by the illusionary Self. This is, in the truest sense of the word, freedom - freedom from your ingrained thought patterns, freedom from the defensive ego, freedom from the constraint of being what you think you should be and freedom from anxiety, fear, guilt and regret.About the Colin McMorran is a practicing Transpersonal Therapist and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). In addition to his private client work he also practices as a specialist Mental Health Mentor working with undergraduate and postgraduate students who have been assessed as needing mental health support. His personal search for meaning began as a young adult exploring western philosophies and psychology, then turning to the spirituality of Eastern traditions, specifically Advaita Vedanta. These ancient teachings resonated with his innate sense of present moment awareness leading to a shift in perspective and the desire to write and talk about a deeper truth.Get your copy today by clicking the 'Buy Now' button
This is the best book on exposing the illusion of the (imagined) self and consequently easily one of the best pointers to Reality that I have ever read. A much clearer articulation of non-dual REALITY than can be found through the published versions of Sri Ramana and/or Nasargadatta Maharaj's teachings-although it is pointing to the very same REALITY.
This is the first book of this kind that I have read- with this message so clear that there is no self. All other books on spirituality (that I’ve read) have only encouraged the development of oneSELF and our story. But this book blew all that out of the water. The beginning is heavy and wordy, but I found once I got through the first handful of chapters there was so much richness to be found. A must read for those searching! You’ll find every answer about where you’re “going” right here!
No false notes here, a message delivered without pretence... with what could be nothing less than genuine experiene.Thank you, Colin. Please accept a full measure of gratitude for this right book at the right time.
There is a resonance for the truth behind the words. A gift for how to recognize and find the space of awareness we are looking for but are already in.
If you are at all of a troubled disposition then please; DO NOT READ THIS BOOK!
This book is as troublesome as The Catcher In The Rye!
It will indoctrinate you and into the wrong direction you really need to be taking if you have mental health issues!
Read at your own risk. I tell you now - and from past and personal experience, this book will cause you mental trauma as it has done for me.
I don’t care IF it is supposed to be helpful. It isn’t!
For people who really need help with their mental health, this is NOT the book to read! It is full of mind altering word placements and suggestions and will create havoc for you.
If you have read it and you are suffering then there is only thing to do; keep reciting the Jesus Prayer (google it) and this will exorcise the mental smorgasbord of overthinking and overwhelming thoughts you may have encountered after reading this. 🙏
The author states right up front that this is not a feel good book for those spiritual seekers looking for a guru, encouragement or coaching on how to achieve enlightenment. This book was written to help the reader refine noticing the illusion, which includes the spiritual seeker. To notice those signs that keep you imprisoned. To reflect on the existence of those fears of losing self and where they come from. Maybe a buzz kill to some, but really a truth that helps the reader notice, to see anew, to leave the harbor. Definitely a book I was ready to read. Light winds and following seas...
After being stuck in a depressive state for years, I have realised, through this book, that I have control or more importantly I can observe. I would say that my road to recovery has started but now I realise there is no road. I have read numerous books on enlightenment, awareness etc etc. But I have never read with such clarity, a book that defines why we, as humans, are suffering in so many ways. Thank you Colin, your words of truth are greatly appreciated.
This is one of the finest books written about the subject of 'Non Self' or 'Anatta'. Just as Lao Tzu mentioned, 'The Tao that can be spoken of is not the real Tao', anything that is said here is just a finger pointing to the moon. All the analogies and allegories mentioned in this book are very powerful and yet simple to visualize and even a novice reader of this subject would appreciate and enjoy the content and would greatly benefit from it.
This is a very intelligent book written apparently by a very intelligent person about a difficult subject. Fortunately for us who already read a few books on non duality, this book is another support that we walk the right direction.
Very Interesting self help book . Helps in better understanding of Non-self , non-duality and such assumptions. apparently demands a firm attention and which is worth at the end.
I have read a few books on non duality in the past and they have all made an impression on me. This book made the most impact on my life. Colin does what seems impossible and hints at what the indescribable is like. I have since moved on to read another book by Colin McMorran Silent Mind. I thoroughly recommend both if you are a seeker who wants to stop seeking. I have to remind myself every day to let go and transcend the thoughts that appear to be telling me the story of my life. All they are and all everything that appears is passing clouds.
