Isla learns that lesson all too well when she agrees to go to a party with her half-demon best friend, Alistair, to help him make his vampire ex-boyfriend jealous. Their plan backfires when Alistair’s ex turns out to be more psycho than Isla realized, and she finds herself being kidnapped and sold on the supernatural black market.
While Isla’s only human, she’s spent her life surrounded by supernatural creatures. Her situation is precarious, but she’s pretty sure she knows what to expect. At least, until her buyer ends up transporting her to a completely different realm called Briya where nobody speaks her language.
Isla is gifted to the four Guardians of Briya—Reule, Audun, Maalik, and Caelan. With the dreaded Beast’s Moon looming right around the corner, the Guardians are expected to choose a mate. They’re furious with their king for his scheming, and they’re determined to help Isla find her way back home to Alistair. But the timing of Isla’s arrival complicates everything, and they find themselves drawn to her no matter how hard they try to fight their instincts.

4 stars Willow Hadley has done it again; As a fan of the Cricket Kendell series I was very excited to start this series. Loved this book. The plot was extremely intriguing. I felt bad for Isla and the language barrier and culture shock she faces. Reule is by far my favourite character. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
This book sounded really I interesting to me and I was really liking it in the beginning. It’s was well written, exciting, fun and even had an interesting conflict with her ex and Alistair’s ex. But once she mated with the guys it was pretty boring.
I honestly thought she had more chemistry with Alistair, Rian and Matthieu than she did with Maalik, Reule Audun and Caelan. It doesn’t help that there was a huge language barrier between Isla and her mates for the entire book so all we have to go off of is gestures and assumptions. I get if she can’t magically learn the language but it needed some sort of work around or something so she could communicate with them. I would have loved to read the dialog between her and the guys with Isla learning about this new world and getting to know them. Even being able to talk about the issues with Maalik would have made the book a little more interesting for me.
There was also no conflict or angst really at all for the remaining 70% of the book so it really dragged after she was mated with them. The book relied too much on their relationship and usually I love character driven stories but, with the language barrier, insta-love and very low angst, it just was not very interesting. So reading 200 more pages of them just living their lives gets boring.
This wasn’t a bad book by any means. It sounds like the next book might have a bit more of an intriguing plot to it so I think this book would have been really good as a shorter book or a novella just to set up the next book.
It was going pretty well at the start. I liked Isla and the way she'd carved out a life for herself as a human amongst supernatural and I felt for her when she was kidnapped and admired her the way she fought back and stayed strong.
I was intrigues when she met one of the guys she'd been given to and liked the way the language barrier was used.
However, it all went a bit downhill from there, really.
I don't like fast burn fated mates and I don't like fluff. I don't like the little woman sitting at home with her walk in closet and pretty clothes while the big bad men protect her and go to manly things. Nothing about it appeals to me on any levels. Because it was so fast burn, and because they couldn't communicate, I felt like none of them at hall know rcah other at all and it just got a little silly and incredulous for me to the point where I got to 80% and just wanted to finish it.
If you like a fluffy read, with lovely nurturing guys and a fated mates fast burn relation ship, with little to no additional plot, then give this a try, but it just wasn't to my tastes.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a really cute read and I enjoyed myself a lot, but ultimately the lack of conflict and angst made me not care as much as I could’ve.
It’s also a problem when you keep wishing the story would go back to Alistair, Lord Rian and Matthieu. Isla’s four mates were really sweet and cute, but whatever was going on between her, Alistair and Rian in that one scene is where I wanted to be lol
Willow Hadley this might be my favorite book by you yet. I love love loved everything about it. Fated mates, unique shifters, different supernaturals, its action packed, with a totally original storyline. I couldn’t of asked for more.
Isla is a human among supernaturals. This girl is a straight up survivor. I loved her as an FMC! I seriously need more I cannot wait for book 2.
‘Of Moons and Monsters’ is just too magnetic to not read. The way the characters spin the story, you become spell-bound to read the book! Once you start reading it, there’s no way out! Do enjoy the magical world of Isla!
I have now read all of this author’s published work, and I feel like this is her best writing yet. I have some issues with her Cricket Kendall and Charlotte Reynolds series that I don’t feel were prevalent here. The writing definitely came across more refined and mature.
I enjoyed the premise a lot! I am interested to see where the different realms thing goes. I really liked the guys, I like how kind they were, even the one who was grumpy to begin with. I liked the fmc, there were times where I didn’t fully get her, but I’m hoping that’s part of the character development.
The world building was decent in this, and after the end, I am intrigued as to how it’ll play out. I will say that I’m hoping it’s not an “add more mates” kind of scenario.
Sold on the supernatural black market doesn’t exactly sound like a good time does it? That’s exactly what happens to Ilsa, a mere human. Only she ends up in the hands of immortal shifters Reule, Caelan, Maalik, and Audun. They are guardians of an entirely different realm.
The plot of this book was really fun and interesting to read. You get a feeling that there’s something more to Ilsa. Since she doesn’t know her background by being a foster child since she was a baby. I’m very interested to see the full backstory of her.
The book starts off with her and her male BFF Alistair who is a half demon working for a prestigious vampire, Madame. They go to an event where they meet two powerful men who claim Ilsa and her BFF as their mates. So you think that’s going to be the main plot of the book but then Ilsa gets kidnapped and it just takes a whole different route for the rest of the book. I don’t know if the setting in her realm and her first set of potential mates are going to be a part of the second book but I felt like they were just left out. And it took away from me fully enjoying her new reality because I was always questioning what the hell happened to the first part of the book and all of those characters that were introduced to us. Especially her werewolf ex-boyfriend.
So once she ends up mated to these four shifters, I felt like Ilsa had a weird personality change where it seemed like I was reading about two different characters. It was really hard to connect with her and normally I’m never one to say this but I was just a little confused on who she was supposed to be. One minute she’s overly confident cocky and bratty and the next minute she’s trying to be this serene and loving mate. And then two minutes later she’s questioning her old life. I just had a hard time believing in the flow of her emotions and personality.
Because they all speak a different language it was very interesting to see how the five of them try to connect with each other. The sex scenes are so so. But I was fully engaged and reading the book to the very end. It does leave off on a cliffhanger but not one that’s gonna make you bite your nails until the next book is out. It more or less leaves off with just more questions.
I like this different approach to reverse harem. I don’t know what’s gonna happen with the first set of guys and her BFF who claimed that she was also their mate so will definitely have to wait and find out what in the world is going on in the next book!

This book is absolute trash. DNF at 45%. She’s known these men for a whole 3 days and she wants to mate with all of them and sleep with them??? Wtf? “How dare Malik think I’m not hot enough for him”… you’ve known Malik for 1 day!!!! And this whole not being able to understand what the other is saying makes it 10x worse. Your mad they won’t mate with you after 24 hours and you can’t even understand what theyre saying. They could be saying all the ways they want to kill and torture her and she would just giggle. And the crown seen? Like for real?? She’s so ready to be with them after 24 hours she’s prancing around in a crown?? This book just annoys me so much, the writing is terrible and the plot sucks. I have no idea how this book has 1k reviews and an average of 4.3.
The conflict was kinda resolved in the first half, there was no other problem whatsoever, and it was an insta love.
I don't usually read such fluffy cutie vanilla rainbow romance, but hey I was entertained I guess. This was so cute and fluffy that at times it became kinda corny.
The end was enough for me to go to the second book ig
Love. Love. Love. A language barrier has never been more fun to read (tip - keep a translation app handy to decipher the ‘Briyan’ text. It’s just Czech)! A great first book that has me hooked to a new series. A few things could do with some tightening up and I'd have appreciated more than the 2 smexy scenes (the rest are all off page), but this is a great beginning and I'm interested to see where it goes!
Of Moons and Monsters is the first ever Willow story I read on Wattpad and is the reason I discovered all her other fantastic books and stories. So it really holds a special place in my heart.
I love the characters so much. Isla is such a strong, confident person who deals amazingly well with everything that’s thrown her way (if I ended up in a different realm without any way to speak to the people in it, I would have a breakdown 😂) and I absolutely love her character. And the guys, oh my, they are so sweet and loving, it really sets the bar quite high! And although we don’t see that much of Al in this book, I love him too despite him being a bit of a troublemaker.
The story itself is so well-written and makes you fall in love with the characters and the relationships between them. You’re really rooting for everything to work out well for them. I loved the world-building too, I am not into too difficult world-building and information dropping so this book was perfect for me - you get to know enough to understand where the characters are coming from and how their world works but it never feels like an overwhelming info-drop.
I just cannot wait for the second book because I need to know more about all these amazing characters and the world they live in. The last chapter absolutely killed me and I’m just so excited for the next book in the series!
This supernatural fantasy Reverse Harem is one crazy read. Isla is a human living and working around the supernatural, her BFF is half demon. When asked to go to a party with him leads her to go on a crazy adventure for her.
She gets taken by some bad guy vampire and sold to a foreign realm and given as a gift to the Guardians of Briyan. While there she realizes that she is to be mated to four of the hottest shifters every. She wants the mating but there is some resistance from one of the guys. With them not able to understand eachother it is hard for them to comunicate.
Loved the world building and the character growth and this book does leave on a cliff hanger which I can not wait for the second book to come out.
intriguing story, i didn´t know what to expect and the ending have me wanting the next book. Even tho i had wanted more backstory, Isla and Alistairs relationship and to know more about their world. Sometimes Isla was way to easy to jump into a whole new world where she does not know a single world, with some strangers. I thought that she at least in the beginning would try to escape or that she wanted to find Alistair to check if he was alright.
Of Moons and Monsters drew me right in after a massive book hangover. The characters are sweet, made me smile, even though there are massive communication issues that occur. Isla is a dressmaker with her best friend Alistair. They attend a party that was supposed to be just good fun...and her world turned upside down. She’s making the best of it, but there’s so many unanswered questions. Is her friend looking for it? Can she get back home? But most importantly...does she want to?
I loved this book. I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between the characters was great. The mc is such a strong character and so lovable. This ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. I can't wait for more! So far I have loved everything from this author.
I always know a good book if I can’t even put it down to go to sleep at night. From the moment I started reading I fell in love with the characters. Moments of literal heart tugs at times when you know the whole story but the characters do not. It took me less than a day to read as I was thoroughly engrossed. Definitely a recommend for lovers of fantastical romance and why choose mates!
Quite an enjoyable read! Isla is a human in a supernatural world and agree to accompany her 1/2 demon bestie to a party to make both their Xs jealous. All is going well until it isn’t. Isla finds her self in a predicament she never expected and the surprises for her keep coming. I don’t want to give anything thing away but it’s a good read with paranormal, some darker themes, and a reverse harem relationship that doesn’t take the hearts and flower journey to get there. I love the guardians and the shifters they are you don’t see a lot of so it was a nice change. The characters are lovable and the story bounces between perspective which is good because other wise I feel like a lot would be lost in depth is this story. This is my first book by this author and I am eager to see what happens with Isla as she navigates the situation! Sorry I hate spoiling things ans really giving much details would do so! I you love paranormal romancewith a darker but not to dark theme, strong female leads and some RH then this going to be one to enjoy!
This was…interesting to say the least. The basic plot is that Isla, a human girl that fraternizes with supernaturals in her home world, is kidnapped and sold on the black market by demons to four ultra-hot guardians (chimeras).
Although this is fantasy romance, the fantasy parts were so underdeveloped that I couldn’t ignore it. The realm Isla is brought to is called Briya, and has a village with a kingdom I guess? Don’t even get me started on how Isla was brought there (on a sleigh through the snow, like Santa Claus during Christmas).
For Briya, the king is mentioned to have old fashioned conservative views, and the towns people love Isla after she is mated with the beast. The elders are also in the kingdom, but the guardians have more power than them apparently (but where though?) But nothing else of the culture/rules of this world is developed upon. Are there any other creatures besides chimeras? It is mentioned that Isla can cook human sounding meals like muffins and breakfast food and hot chocolate but there are no phones/coffee?
For the romance, I for one get icks by age gaps. I think Isla was mentioned to be 24 and the beasts are over a hundred years old? And she’s only known them for like a couple of nights and was held captive for days in a cage beforehand and almost frozen to death? But the next day has a foursome with the guardians and decided to be mated forever with them and just moves on from that horrible experience? Nah.
Our main character, Isla, just wasn’t developed enough. She basically does a 180 after being mates to four men and forgets her friends in her home world like Alistar. She cares more about having a walk-in closet built like the Kardashians for her new clothes than, idk, going home.
And her mates, just wow, the golden standard for men. There is a huge gap in language as well, and they all get mated to a woman they don’t even understand or know. They sometimes just leave to discuss with the king how upset they were with how Isla was treated and how to get her home but they never try and tell her this. They talk about their current situation and what they’re concerned about to each other and others, and don’t even tell Isla that after being mated she can’t have children? That’s fucked up. They cared more about dressing her up like a Barbie doll and having clothes made for her than telling her the truth about their mated bond circumstances and the supposed demons the king found out about in her home world. And the way they talk/think about her at times is downright creepy. Again, they’ve only known her for a couple of days and have a language barrier, and one of them calls her their “brave little kitten”. Yah no. Ick.
Overall, I don’t think these kinds of romance with some fantasy books are for me. I tend to have too many issues that even the sex scenes don’t make up for it.

I am absolutely floored by this amazing book. Of Moons and Monsters was the first book I’ve read by Willow Hadley, but the blurb definitely had me intrigued. After finishing, I think I can say this is one of the best RH books I’ve read.
When Isla goes to a party with her best friend, things take an unexpected twist, and Isla finds herself sold... and in another Realm. The writing is so spectacular and reading made me feel like I was in this fanatical world of amazing (and very unique) shifters, animals, and moons!
I loved the sweet, light hearted aspect that Isla is showered with affection. I have read a lot of darker stories lately, and it was a refreshing change to see the relationships develop. The multiple POV was great, especially with the language barrier, it offered a perfect view of both sides of what has going on.
I don’t think I can praise this book enough, but I am in love with the story, and it left me begging for more with that ending. Be prepared to not put this one down!
Imagine going out and suddenly being in a different realm where you don't even speak the same language as you do. This is what happened to Isla. The guardians want to help Isla but what do they do when there is a certain attraction? Can they really hold off and help Isla return or will they fall head over heels and try to woo her? Now speaking the same language is important but not with matters of the heart. Now hoping the story continues soon!
Of Moons and Monsters is the first book that I have read by Willow Hadley and I can’t wait for the next book because I absolutely loved it. The story is narrated the perspective of multiple characters which I absolutely loved because the guardians speak in another language that I don’t understand so it’s interesting to discover what they are actually saying, thinking and feeling.
I am in total awe of how amazing, strong, sassy, intelligent and calm Isla is especially after being kidnapped. The four guardians of Briya—Reule, Audun, Maalik, and Caelan are absolutely delicious. They are kind, cute, funny, intense, caring and incredibly intriguing. I really love the instant connection between Isla and the guardians because I found it be beautiful.
There are so many hilarious moments in this book including one that involves Isla and her shoe which made me laugh so much. This book was beautiful written with an interesting storyline and complex characters which I loved.
I recieved an advanced copy for free, and this is my honest opinion.
This one confused me at the beginning with the mate declaration, since Isla had to go another world for her quartet. After the shitty exes and the slave trader, it was really sweet. Took a while to get used to the language barrier and its interesting how everyone sees each other. Isla's flip out was entertaining and I did feel a little sorry for Mal. Everyone was so nice and supportive, it made a change. Curious how this one is gonna go because Allister looks like a bad guy, although I do hope they killed the vamp ex and demon.
Recap:
FMC - Isla Guys - Reule, Audun, Maalik, and Caelan

This book takes words away. OMG. It was so good that there was no putting it down till I finished the last page and then I needed more. It moves along at a pace which makes for an easy and enjoyable read as the pace isn't jumping up and down and all over. The characters are so well written that you feel as though you know them and you feel as though you need to be there with them and help them no matter what. The story will grab you and keep you turning pages all the way till the end and then you need more. this is a must read book that needs to be on your TBR list, there are no doubts about it.
This book was fabulous--I've read everything by this author, and I swear she just gets better and better. This was fantasy/paranormal but it was so unique!! Everything about it, from the relationships, her best friend Alistair, the world building, etc. was unique and so beautifully done. How she wrote the language barrier issues--I'm impressed. I think how it was written made the relationships even deeper and somehow more believable, especially with the multiple povs. I'm buying this on paperback as soon as it's available--because the cover's gorgeous, but also because I know I'm going to reread this many times.
I have 3 words for you.... READ THIS BOOK! It was honestly such a great read, the plot and the characters just suck you into the story and you can’t put it down until you’ve devoured the whole thing! Isla is an amazing FMC, she’s fiercely independent and a very strong willed woman. She’s a human thrown into a different world with supernatural beings that don’t speak english where she tries to navigate her new surroundings. The men that help her along the way are fiercely loyal and protective of her. You wont be able to help but fall in love with them ❤️ If you’re a fan of RH or paranormal romance this book is for you, This book is a definite must read for 2021! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
