An entertaining and humorous read for any dog lover. This is a light-hearted story of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, his quirks and foibles, some of his canine friends, and his adventures out on the streets with his disabled busking master. Illustrated with over 150 photographs.
The book is written in the dog's voice from a dog's eye view of the world - from Christmas to bus rides, from swimming to sleeping, from walkies to human quirks. It also explores the interesting Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breed of dog, as well as giving insights into life as a street musician.
I was born in Birmingham to working-class parents in 1959. I worked hard at my music studies and obtained a music degree, graduating in 1980. I joined the Civil Service in January 1981 as a Clerical Officer, eventually gaining a promotion to work as a VAT Control Officer. I currently live in Devon and am a hotel pianist.
Oh goodness, how I enjoyed this funny, charming book. Being a spaniel lover, I recognised so many of the traits and Sam, the Cavalier King Charles, is completely authentic in his voice. I laughed till I cried over some of his misconceptions, but I won't say more other than that his pride in certain names he was called, for instance, was hilarious. I have had close contact with an American Cocker spaniel for many years and he was so similar to Sam. This was a lovely read for me, and I think other dog lovers would enjoy it too. As a busker's companion, Sam, like most spaniels, was the perfect, cheerful assistant! I've read a number of dog memoirs and this now ranks among my favourites.
Short quirky story of a Cavalier King (his description) told by Sam the dog. Lots of interesting facts about Cavalier King Charles spaniels: anyone considering homing this breed would be well advised to read this book first. Actually, the book is mostly about Sam and his quirks than it is about busking - I would've liked to hear more about the busking. But an entertaining read all the same, although you'd probably like it more if you're a dog lover.
If you want to be entertained, have a smile put on your face, laugh out loud, look at gorgeous photographs of man’s best friend and be told wonderful stories by that four-legged friend, then this is the book for you! Highly enjoyable, loads of fun. Inspired writing with a great sense of humour! Such a delightful book.
A delightful audiobook. As a dog narrated tales of exciting escapades with his master, I found this audiobook to be quite enjoyable and even amusing. Well done, Dawn Fallon.
I really enjoyed this quirky book written from the viewpoint of Sam, the marvellous and regal King Charles Spaniel. I learned a lot about his majestic personality and it did make me laugh! A wonderful chatty tone describing his life, the people he lives with and his other doggy friends. I enjoyed the variety of photos and also the various YouTube links as well. Interesting, funny, informative and poignant, I can recommend this book.
