The Heroes of Chance Creek #3

The Marine's E-Mail Order Bride

Rate this book
If Gunnery Sergeant Zane Hall wants to save his family’s ranch, he’ll need to fix up the buildings, stock the spread with cattle—and find a wife. The first two are easy with the help of his brothers, but getting hitched is proving more difficult. When he meets mountaineer Kenna North through an online ad, she seems like the perfect fit—at least in her e-mails. She wants the same thing he does: a temporary marriage to secure an inheritance. But when Zane meets Kenna, she’s nothing like he expects, and Zane finds himself changing his priorities, fast.

If Storm Willow wants to save her family’s seaside cottage, she’ll have to keep her boss happy—which means taking Kenna’s place and marrying Zane when Kenna is detained out of the country. As long as Storm acts her part, no one will know that she’s an imposter. But when she falls for the handsome Marine, Storm begins to wonder if holding onto the cottage is worth giving up on love.

Can a fake marriage lead to real happiness? Or is disaster just a heartbeat away?

Romance - sweet, sexy and wonderful, with a little conflict just to keep things interesting. A pleasant diversion for a few hours. Nothing earthshattering, nothing profound, just really, really nice. As #3 in this series, the love story of Storm and Zane was very sweet. Aunt Heloise has decreed that the four Hall boys have a year to get married and produce one heir in order to redeem their childhood ranch home. It's Zane's turn.

Retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant Zane Hall thinks he has the perfect woman in mind. They met in basic and have crossed paths throughout their careers, flirting, but never sealing the deal. When Zane contacts her, he gets some very surprising news. Like his brothers, Zane turns to the internet for a quickie wife. He connects with mountaineer Kenna North. She needs a quickie husband. Perfect. Match made. When he meets her, even better. This marriage could turn out to be more than a convenience.

Storm Willow is the personal assistant to Kenna North and does everything Kenna wants in order to keep her job, which she uses to support her mother and three young sisters. When Kenna tells her to marry Zane Hall as Kenna, she balks. When Kenna offers her a $30,000 bonus, Storm can't refuse. Then Storm goes and falls in love with Zane and acting the part of Kenna becomes really hard. How is Storm going to find her way out of this mess without someone losing their home?

Ok, no. BASTA. Literal y figurativamente, basta.

Exactly What You’d Expect

Here’s the thing... Ms. Seton has definitely found a sweet spot in her writing and put it to good use. While this book may be a tad formulaic, there are just enough minor details to keep the story interesting.

I’ll be honest, it wasn’t until much later in the book that the heroine grew on me. She seemed weak, easily manipulated, and kind of spineless. Her saving grace was her kindness and selflessness, which was a good thing since her mom was pretty selfish through most of this.

Oddly enough, it was the ancillary characters that I grew to admire. Zane’s cousin’s wife, Belinda, was the compelling person in this story. While her life hadn’t been easy, she refused to play victim or bad mouth her husband. When he didn’t take well that she was “working for the enemy,” a point of view his father cultivated until he died, she found a way to help him see his own worth and build him up. I was almost disappointed that this story wasn’t theirs. Storm, the heroine, could’ve learned a few things from her.

All in all, this was a typically good Seton read and one I’d recommend.

I love this series

This book was a perfect addition to the series. Storm and Zane were matched perfectly to each other. It didn't hurt that they had some hot and steamy scenes.
The book had my emotions in circles. I was laughing, crying and cheering for the couple.
I also thought the author did a great job reconnecting with the past characters in the series as well as meeting new ones.
Looking forward to Colt.

A delightful fast paced story that made me laugh and wonder what it was all about.

Gunnery Sergeant Zane Hall wants to save his family’s ranch, he needs to fix up the buildings, stock the ranch with cat and the biggest thing is that he needs to dind himself a wife, the first two tasks are done with the help of his brothers.
When he meets a mountaineer Kenna North it seems that he found the answer to what he needs done, she needs to find a husband so she can get her inheritance, and according to the emails she seems to be a perfect fit. But when Zane meets Kenna, she’s nothing like he expects, and Zane finds himself changing his priorities, fast.

Storm Willow wants to save her family’s seaside cottage, for this she needs to keep her boss happy, which means she needs to take Kenna's place and merry Zane. As long as Storm does this and plays her part right, no one will even know, but oh boy this is where trouble start, she falls for the handsome Marine and wonders if holding on to the cottage is worth it.

Can a fake marriage lead to real happiness? Or is disaster just a heartbeat away?

Vikki's Musings

"What Gunnery Sergeant Zane Hall wants, Gunnery Sergeant Zane Hall gets." This is so true for Zane! I thoroughly enjoyed this great addition to the Heroes of Chance Creek series. I have read all the books in Cora Seton’s The Cowboys of Chance Creek series, which I found delightful. Now I am a huge fan of hers and cannot wait for the next one in this series to come out.

Storm Willow, assistant to Kenna North arrives in Chance Creek, Montana with her boss’s wedding dress to find out that Kenna now expects her to pretend to be her and actually marry the cowboy Kenna is supposed to wed in six weeks. Her boss is off on another one of her climbing expeditions and cannot be bothered to play the part of Zane Hall’s fake fiancée, soon to be wife.

After being disappointed when he finds out the woman he wanted to marry was gay, he posts his own e-mail, looking for a woman to marry him with the understanding that they would divorce after his aunt signs over the ranch to him and his three brothers. Kenna North seems perfect; she needs to marry to gain her inheritance as well. A match made in heaven, right? Not that Zane does not want to get married, he just wants to take his time and find a woman he can love.

When Storm pulls open the door of the motel room, her gaze travels over the most handsome man she has ever seen in her life. She immediately feels an overwhelming attraction all the way to her core. She sees the same interest in his gorgeous hazel eyes as well. Before she could stop herself, she says, “Hi, I’m Kenna North,” and the deception begins.

This is a very light-hearted read. Zane and Storm hit it off right away and before they even make it out to meet the rest of Zane’s family, they tumble into bed with each other. The chemistry between the two is off the charts from the very beginning, and Ms. Seton is able to maintain their attraction throughout the entire story, making this a very sensual read.

Even though Storm is lying to Zane, there is such a vulnerability to her that I immediately warmed up to her. After all, her boss has put her in an untenable situation. Either she assumes Kenna’s identity or Storm will be out of a job. Then who will help her mother with her three much younger sisters. I felt a lot of empathy for her character right from the beginning. I think that is why this worked for me, because Storm feels so much guilt and remorse over deceiving Zane. That is the fabric of the entire tale.

Zane’s character is a sweetheart from the first scene. While he is also lying to his aunt, it is because she has placed such unreasonable goals for all of them. He cannot let his brothers down, yet he does not want to tie himself permanently to a marriage without love. Of course, now that he has met Kenna/Storm he is reconsidering that part, since it is love at first sight.

I found this book so refreshing, in the sense that Zane and Storm actually like each other, so there is very little conflict between the couple, yet the circumstances they find themselves in allows for a great deal of external conflict, and it works so well for this story. Yes, some things do seem to work out a bit too easily, but it did not take anything away from my reading enjoyment.
I am a bit surprised I have fallen under Ms. Seton’s spell because while I enjoy cowboy stories, they are not my first choice when looking for something to read, but I just love all these characters. The plots in her books are very much character driven.

If you have not read any of Ms. Seton’s books, I highly recommend them. I do suggest you read The Navy Seal’s E-Mail Bride first so you will have a better understanding of the dynamics between the brothers and the full dilemma their aunt has put them in. I feel confident that you will enjoy her books as much as I have. Happy reading!

Welcome back to Chance Creek! Cora Seton writes such a wonderful fun series. The Heroes of Chance Creek are strong, intelligent men who were given the chance of having their dreams come true. All they had to do was retire from the military, meet and marry a woman AND one of them had to have a baby, in a year. If they managed that then their family ranch would be free and clear.. See Easy Peasy!

Mason (The Navy Seal's eMail Order Bride) and Austin (the Soldier's eMail Order Bride)have both found their brides and amazingly enough, both of the women are pregnant.. so plans are going along swimmingly. Now it's Zane's turn..

In a typical Hall family manner, Zane has a plan. Sure he wants to get married but he doesn't have time to play around. So he plans something of a scam. Marry a temporary bride. Get married, stay married until the year is up (in Zane's case 6 months), get the ranch put in their names and get divorced. Sure he's going to scam his poor aunt Heloise but it's her fault for forcing his hand. Everything is going according to plan until Zane sets eyes on his temporary bride and discovers he might just want more.

Storm Willow has spent almost half of her life trying to keep her mother and sisters afloat. At the age of 12 her father died by 15 she had quit school and went to work full time. Now at 23, she's the assistant to a mountain climber and is in Chance Creek to deliver the wedding dress. Until her boss calls and says, Storm has to take her place. Seems, Kenna (said boss) has other things to do. But no worries she will send all sorts of fake ids so Storm can do this. Storm doesn't want to but an offer of a 30,000 bonus and her mom's pressure puts her on the spot. But when she sets eyes on Zane Hall.. let's just say fireworks were going off.

How can a relationship last if it is based on fraud? Can Storm manage to remain Kenna? Does she really want to? And what is going to happen if Zane figures out that Storm isn't Kenna?

It wasn't a comedy of errors it was passion. You know it's coming, it has to but it doesn't matter. Storm and Zane belong together. They fit. They are the kind of couple that reminds you of someone you know. A relationship that many envy.

All in all, Ms. Seton got it right..

ADRI'S REVIEW:

Ok so I have been reading and keeping up with Cora Seton and her Chance Creek books for a few months now, basically since I came across Mason's book on NetGalley. So it goes without saying when Zane's book finally came out I jumped right on it. This was a huge pleasure read for me.

Oh the things that Zane feels and how quickly his relationship with Storm progresses couldn't be more perfect. Being a Marine I knew I would have a soft spot for Zane, but the fact that he goes into it wanting love from the second he sees Storm just endured him to me even more.

Poor Storm, she does what she has to, to help her mom and sisters. It killed me to know that she was even pretending to be Kenna so that her mom could keep a little part of her father in her families life. The fact that she is able to help not only Zane but others that are having to deal with the Hall family changes in Chance Creek speaks highly of her character.

I give this book 5 BIG Kisses and hope you get into the two series as much I have.

Happy reading... Adri

I am totally enthralled with this series! Zane and Storm are quite the pair. What turned out to be a marriage for sole purpose only, turned out to be just what they secretly wanted. Zane is the third Hall brother to board the marriage train and he has agreed to marry Kenna North, a mountaineer. Kenna is detained by her profession and sends her assistant to take her place if only temporarily. Storm realizes that the fibs she has to tell only leave her feeling guilty and exposed. She's falling in love with Zane Hall. Can he forgive her secrets? Can they create the marriage that is real for them both? Find out!

So far, this has been my favourite book of this series. I loved Storm. Even though she made mistakes, she was sweet. I also loved Zane. He seemed a little warmer than his brothers. Ok, so it was all a bit silly and you could see it would be a disaster but I still liked the story. The book is sweet, sexy, and well written. It was a light, enjoyable read.

I will be reading this next book but I have to admit that I'm not very sure about it. I know where it's going due to various hints throughout the series and I haven't really been won over. I have enjoyed the rest of the series though, so I'll give it a chance.

The Marine's E-Mail Order Bride

In order to save his family ranch Zane knows he also has to marry and abide by his Aunt Heloise's rules. So he schemes with Kenna to have a temporary marriage so they both can get their inheritance.

But the person he meets and marries is Kenna's assistant Storm pretending that she's Kenna. This pretend marriage leads to love.

Then the real truth is revealed to Zane and chaos ensues.

Once everything is out in the open and Zane meets Storm's family they have to straighten everything out so they can really marry each other.

The Hall brothers can sure make a mess of finding a bride to meet their Aunt's demands to regain their family home and ranch. Zane and Storm start a relationship based on deception in The Marine's E-Mail Order Bride but still manage to fall in love and this makes three of the four brothers are now happily married and settled at the Hall with Cole still in the Air Force and off on a mission and out of contact with his family for several months.

Zane.was a.sweetheart. I really liked Storm too. Not too much drama. Just lots of secrets. Obviously, you know the conflict from the very beginning. I loved the addition of Storm's mom and her little sisters. And surprisingly Belinda is a nice woman.

I'm still.not a.fan of Heather. Or all her lies. Wish there was another heroine for Colt. That entire scenario doesn't sit well with me.

Great addition to the series! Zane and Storm met under false pretenses but neither one is eager to end the sham of a marriage. It's impossible not to like these two characters and the whole extended family. After reading about the first three Hall brothers quest to meet their aunt's demand that they marry in order to keep the family home, I can't wait to get Colt's story.

Another Wonderful Love Story

Cora Seton writes the most wonderful love stories. This is another. It has laughs, anger, lies, and of course passionate love scenes. All the characters feel like your neighbors. The brothers are hot alpha military cowboys. I can't wait for the next book. This is a MUST-READ series.

Family

The line Whatever Gunnery Sergeant Zane Hall wants, he gets reminded me of the song Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets. Zane wants Storm from the moment he meets her. There are glitches along the way. In the end, it is all about family. Whether it is his family or hers. I can't wait to read the next book.
