Girl Code

Rate this book
Mickey Hill has been overlooked her entire life, but she’s learned how to use that to her advantage. She’s good at disappearing into her computer, hacking into other people’s worlds, even interrupting the real one without anyone ever noticing. When she was hired to take down a corrupt corporation, she knew it might turn dangerous but she thought she was prepared for anything… anything but him.

Dante Chinn has spent years compromising his personal life to make his career a success. He doesn’t have friends. He doesn’t have girlfriends and he certainly doesn’t have anyone he loves left in his life. He’s spent the past two years working deep undercover for one of the biggest corporations in the country but when they’re hacked just days before he can make the bust that would earn him a high-profile promotion, the case is the last thing on his mind.

He’d know that code anywhere and if he knows it, others might too. It belongs to a woman, a beautiful, smart, foul-mouthed, pain in the ass woman that Dante knows far too well and wants way too much. If Mickey is in danger, he has no choice but to protect her, even if seeing his face is the last thing she wants, it’s the one thing she needs.

What happens when fate forces these two back together and gives them a second chance? Can they overcome the hurt and distrust to come clean about their lies? Can they work together to stay alive long enough to take down the corrupt corporation on their heels or will their hearts end up as broken as Mickey’s code?

Jess Bryant is an avid indoorswoman. A city girl trapped in a country girl's life, her heart resides in Dallas but her soul and roots are in small town Oklahoma. She enjoys manicures, the color pink, and her completely impractical for country life stilettos. She believes that hair color is a legitimate form of therapy, as is reading and writing romance. She started writing as a little girl but her life changed forever when she stole a book from her aunt's Harlequin collection and she's been creating love stories with happily ever afters ever since.

Jess holds a degree in Public Relations from the University of Oklahoma and is a lifetime supporter of her school and athletic teams. And why not? They have a ton of National Championships! She may be a girlie girl but she knows her sports stats and isn't afraid to tell you that your school isn't as cool as hers... or that your sports romance got it all wrong.

This story is action packed and swoon worthy, with the powerful message of being a kick ass woman and being accomplished.

The characters were in their own way tortured, and I love how the author brings them together.

So much good about this story!

This is my first time reading this author and I gotta say, her writing just flows off the page. And this story was so girl powered up and the characters were entertaining and the plot was so thrilling. Highly recommend if you like girl power based novels where the woman can do fine without a man beside her or could stand next to her and be proud of who she is and nothing more. I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.

Girl Code will have hearts cheering for the underdog, even as they find a little bit of themselves. In Mickey, Bryant explores a woman searching for her place in this world. We've all been there and so that's something we all can relate to. The fact that she's a woman fighting her way through the glass ceiling is something as a female I salute her for. She's not a quitter and her courageous spirit was a sight to behold. With Girl Code, author Jess Bryant gave me a heroine to be proud of.

The romance world needs more books about strong, independent, head strong, bad@$$ women... and Mickey is alllll of the above... loved this short novella ... the past that Dante and Mickey share made this story so incredible... the sparks ignited ... they're so sweet together and shes not afraid to put him in his place...

Mickey is a hacker and has been hired to work for a big corporation. She ends up in danger if anyone finds out. Dante is an undercover agent and he's recognized that code is from Mickey. He's determined to protect her and he's always had a crush on her. Mickey never expected to catch anyone's eye especially Dante. Will the two end up together? Can Dante keep her safe?

This was a good book with a kick-butt heroine. Mick starts out trying to help a friend avenge a wrong that's been done to her, but ends up inadvertently threatening some very powerful people. Dante figures out very quickly that she is one behind the hack in question, and also realizes the very real danger that she is in. His first and only thought is getting to her, which he does, even if she isn't happy to see him. Together they go on the run, trying to stay one step ahead of the bad guys who are after them. This tale is heavy on the personal relationship between Mick and Dante, including bridging some major gulfs from the past. What it is light on, however, is any real substance about the actual crime-fighting portion of their endeavor. It also wraps things up very quickly in the end. Basically, it felt like the middle had been left out of story. Still a good read, especially if you just want a quick, romantic suspense where the good guys win and the main couple end up together. But it could have been better, with the plot much more fleshed out.

I received a free eBook copy of this title from the Girl Power Collection, and have willingly provided an honest review.

Mickey Hill is an accomplished hacker. When she unthinkingly goes after some powerful people, without realizing the terrible danger she is now in, Dante Chinn has to step in to keep her safe. Dante is an undercover cop who recognizes Mickey’s code immediately. They used to have a relationship before they split up. He figured that if he could recognize her coding, others might too, and he had to get her out of danger.

The two of them have to go on the run while being pursued by thugs from the huge corporation Mickey has threatened. Although the timing is not perfect, will their being together again give them a chance to come clean, seek forgiveness, and perhaps get back together again? He was close to bringing the corrupt corporation down – can they work together to finish his work, end the attack, and find their HEA at last?

They say that timing is everything, and this story line shows that is evidently true. But in this case, it may have come at the perfect time to bring to people back together. Grab your copy and see if they can escape and do what needs to be done to survive, and maybe repair their broken hearts along the way.

A good, but short suspenseful sociopolitical romance.

This is more of a soft 3.5 star read. I am not a big fan of third person. It worked in this, but I still prefer first when it comes to a story with two strong characters.

Mickey is an IT person by day and hacker by night. She unknowingly becomes a target of an anti-gun law group. Her former childhood bestie is undercover in the group.

Dante is a cop who recognizes Mickey’s code and goes to protect her. It’s a pained reunion of a friendship lost and a love let go.

The suspense leads to an attraction that can no longer be denied.

The pace for a short book, was a bit slow at times, but the romance was hot. I wasn’t a big fan of Dante not detailing his past, though. Personal preference. If Mickey can do it and she’s this strong character, why not be open?

I look forward to more of this series though.

#SecondChance #RomanticSuspense #Novella

This novella has been on my TBR for a long time. It is written in third person from a dual POV and ends with a HEA.

Mickey and Dante used to be best friends growing up. One night in college changed everything and they haven't seen each other in three years. When Dante reappears in her life, Mickey is in grave danger. Dante's only goal is to protect her. Reconnecting with her and getting a HEA is a bonus he never dreamed he would get.

Mickey is a super intelligent hacker. I love how fierce and brave she is. Dante is a detective who can't lose the girl he has always loved. I adore his protective instincts and his tenderness and bravery with Mickey.

This is a passionate, steamy , short read. The ode to feminism is there as well as a strong indictment on anti-gun law organizations. It was an enjoyable read with a sweet and funny HEA.

I enjoyed this so much. I love that the theme is women doing men jobs with the recognition they deserve. Mickey is the computer hacker here but she’s so much more than that. How else would she have brought down the biggest politician at that time? I love the way it ties in to life right now and what could happen if women were put in charge. But the book is also about second chances with the one you love and that’s Mickey and Dante. The story is short but packs so much in that small package that I didn’t feel as though I missed anything. Although I would have loved an epilogue to see them in the future.

Fun read

It was short but the story was well written. I liked that Mikey was a strong heroine and as for Dante is was a great hero. Strong and ready to put it all in the line for the woman he loved. I would be great if the book was turn into a longer book or into a series. I would have like to know more about their background, what he did after dropping out from college, why he dropped out, why he went out with Tiffani of all people and what happened to them after this whole ordeal.

This is an enjoyable read about a strong woman. I loved that the woman and her abilities were the focus of the story with the romance being a close second. It is nice to read a story about a strong woman without her being meek or weaker then the men. The story has heat and passion as well as a well developed story line. I liked the characters and the plot. This was my first read from this author but not my last. I received an ARC and am leaving an honest review. 3.5 stars.

Who runs the World?

Girl Code is an amazing and wonderful read. Even though this is the first time I have ever read anything from Jess Bryant, and based upon this book. It's definitely not the last.

I was recommended to read the book from another Book Club and I'm glad I did. I'm looking forward to seeing much more from JB.

For a short book it was a great read, there is some good action, attraction a bit of mystery and a happy ending, I suppose I just would have liked a little more of Dante explaining his past and knowing what happened after the offer Mickey got was declined. This book is perfect when you don't have long to read and want something that has a bit of everything in it.

Oh my goodness I need more of these characters!! I was sucked in from the first page and didn’t put my kindle down until I was finished the story. I loved Mickey’s bada$$ hacking skills and her sassy attitude! This story was fast paced and swoon worthy. I thought that this book had a good plot but I was not a fan of the third person perspective. I did very much enjoy the characters in this novella though. Mickey and Dante were very cute together and they were both very strong characters. The story line is a well written blend of light suspense, emotion and drama. This is my independent, impartial review.

I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.

This book is well-written and quick to read, I enjoyed the storyline as well as the drama in Dante and Mickey's past as well as the drama Mickey has found herself in from doing a bit of hacking on the side. This is a good second chance romance with some drama and suspense.

I liked

I did like Micky, smart as a whip. I didn't like it one point she was the other woman. I also liked Dante, he seemed to be a good guy aside from the whole cheating thing. But overall I did like this book fast paced, well written, good ending

Girl Code follows Mickey and what happens when she hacks the wrong person, although for very good reason. Hacking this particular person will change her life in ways she couldn't imagine. This is a quick and easy read with a little action and little steam.

A fun easy novella read. I liked the characters a lot, the story was simple but engaging, the writing had a nice warmth to it. Mickey and Dante will make you smile.

I'm not the biggest fan of third person narrative but if you like it, then this will probably be a five star read for you.
