The main trio is as wonderful as ever, and they are growing up perfectly. It can be a challenge to find books where teens and preteens are written true to life, but this book manages--and it makes the journey great to read. Calum is becoming more heroic, Laurel more capable. And Hagen--I love this kid. He's unstoppable.
A lot of secondary characters come to the forefront in this book, but it doesn't feel sudden or forced. It comes about naturally. And we learn more tidbits about the adults' history, including that of the villain. Everything I learn increases my curiosity exponentially. I am absolutely hooked. Even if the cast weren't fantastic, I could read this whole series just to learn about what happened with the various fae courts and royalty.
