Scarlett Jackson is anything but perfect. The first time she met famous chef and entrepreneur Guy Chapman, she set him on fire. As a result, she was blacklisted from every restaurant in New York City to the point where she couldn’t get hired at a taco stand. But she didn’t give up. She got busy. Now she’s running her own food truck and things are taking off. Except... through a mixture of impeccable timing and bad luck, she’s parking near Guy’s newest and most ambitious undertaking: restaurant row.
For Guy Chapman, everything must be perfect. His businesses, his food, his whole life. He has more on the line that just creating a culinary empire. There are people who rely on him, from employees to a sister who requires twenty-four-hour care. So when a plucky baker running an inconvenient food truck throws a wrench into his plans, he can’t just let it go.
When things start getting hot in both their kitchens, Guy and Scarlett have to decide what’s more important: winning the block, or winning each other’s hearts.
Mary Frame writes romantic comedies with quirky characters, steamy moments, and banter that will make you blush and snort-laugh at the same time. She’s a full time mom with a full time job and has no idea how she manages to write novels, but it probably helps that she's a dedicated introvert. She doesn't enjoy writing about herself in third person, but she does enjoy reading, writing, dancing, and damaging the ear drums of her co-workers when she randomly decides to sing to them.
She LOVES hearing from readers and will not only respond but likely begin stalking them while tossing out hearts and flowers and rainbows! If that doesn't creep you out, e-mail her at: maryframeauthor@gmail.com
Hello my lovelies! Scarlett's book is HERE!! If you like cupcakes, broody heroes with a heart of gold, and appliance double-entendres, this is the story for you :D
I had so much fun writing this story, and I hope you have fun reading it. I hope it makes you smile, giggle, and laugh out loud because laughter truly is the best medicine.
One of the characters in this story has Angelman Syndrome. It's a rare genetic disorder, and a friend of mine has a daughter with it who inspired the character in the story. Another inspiration for me were these truly adorable twin brothers, and you have to watch this video and gush with me over how amazing they are!
This is a funny, sweet, enemies-to-lovers romance.
Scarlett runs a cupcake food truck in the lot beside Guy’s high end New York restaurant. While Guy wants Scarlett and her food truck gone so he can develop the space, she’s determined not to move.
I laughed out loud during the early chapters from Scarlett’s point of view. Her and her co-worker, Fred, are such likeable, entertaining characters.
I haven’t read the other books in the series, but it didn’t impact my enjoyment of this one.
Scarlett Jackson was an aspiring chef until a (very) close encounter with the very famous head chef she was auditioning for ended up in her setting his chef's whites alight with a blowtorch - the fallout ended her career aspirations and now she has a food truck selling cupcakes in New York.
Guy Chapman gained fame as a chef on a reality TV show (think Gordon Ramsay style shouty), now he's matured somewhat and is in the process of an ambitious new partnership with eccentric billionaire Oliver to create a food block with exclusive high-end restaurants. The only flaw in his plans is the tatty food truck that parks on a small plot of land just beside one of his restaurants, he can't get rid of the truck and he can't seem to get the owners of the land to sell it to him. With Oliver becoming increasingly aggressive and acting as though he is in charge, Guy has to do something fast to resolve the issue, but the truck's owner refuses to speak to him - she even hides on the floor when he approaches the truck!
When Guy and Scarlett meet at a charity event (his firm is catering and she provided cupcakes for the child guests), he has to rescue her from an unfortunate encounter with a walk-in installation. She is mortified but he doesn't recognise her as the trainee who set him on fire, or as the owner of the truck which is the bane of his life. There's instant chemistry but Scarlett knows this is doomed and runs away.
Guy finds himself torn between the connection he felt when he first met Scarlett and the fact that she is standing between him and his business being a success, despite wanting to evict her he ends up helping her - especially after a prank he pulls goes horribly wrong.
I enjoyed this, Guy and Charlotte had depth, she didn't immediately jump to conclusions, and he had some family responsibilities which were sensitively handled. My only niggle is that I read a book in 2019 (The Opposite of You) which also featured a woman with a food truck which is parked across the piazza from a high-end restaurant where the head chef wants to get rid of her and although the rest of the books were different, the similarity jarred a little.
This book surprised me so much! I had not read the previous books, and I feel like even though some characters from other books make brief appearances, I didn't miss anything. You could definitely read this as stand alone. Scarlett is a sweet but klutzy chef who accidentally sets Guy's chef coat on fire during an interview. Guy is a former reality star, super famous chef. Guy is known for being all business, however he's also the primary caregiver for his two 13 yr old sisters, one of which is severely disabled. Guy is working to open a fancy restaurant and Scarlett, unable to find another job after the fire incident, is parked in his lot in a cupcake food truck. Classic enemies to lovers!
This was perfect. This trope can be hard and a lot of authors go completely over the top. Here we have some pranks, a real situation that is a problem for both of them (location of food truck), and chemistry that is palpable from the first meeting.
It was nice to see some disabled representation in this novel, that was unexpected. Guy is a great brother and Scarlett fits right in with he and his sisters. There's a grand gesture at the end which is super fun, and we also meet Scarlett's gun toting granny from the country. There are two side characters Fred and Oliver that will be getting books, and honestly, I'm going back and reading the first in this series and will definitely pick up the last two when they come out from this new to me author.
This book does take place over Christmas and reminds me of the sweet Christmas movies (but much steamier) that I know and love!
Very sorry I picked up this vulgar and pornographic romance. If that's your thing, then you'll find this author a talented wordsmith. Her writing in the first few chapters impressed me—a fresh change from most in this genre. I can only hope she turns her talents to higher pursuits.
Mary Frame has definitely become one of those authors I look for when I need something fun and sweet. This one was no exception. I love when the H knows what he wants and is not afraid of commitment. And I love a h who is not afraid of taking the iniciative. And I love baking cupcakes too. Loved it!
I thought this was fairly cute. Although I wish authors would ease up on having heroines constantly embarassing themselves. It wasn't too extreme in this story but it was still there.
It's a cute enemies to lovers story. I've read Imperfect Chemistry before this one and I must say I liked the first one better. This one started great, with the main character, Scarlett, a chef who, unable to find a job at a restaurant due to an incident at Guy Chapman's restaurant interview, starts her own food truck for cupcakes (cliche) and has a catering business and a sexy and no smiles love interest, Guy (this name was a turn off but that's another story) who is a famous chef (reality TV star) and has a whole concept for a series of restaurants and Scarlett's truck is in the way.
I loved the sexual tension between the characters and the enemies to lovers plot. However, I think that the last 1/4 of the book was really rushed and suddenly there was I love you's being traded like after a month of them KNOWING each other and a few weeks after getting 'together'.
Not as abrasive as I would like. It reads more Tin Man with no heart than Gordon Ramsey. The idea of her being terrified of him then not being scared anymore was really good. But it would have been more epic if we could have seen her getting scared and having cooking disasters. The sisters while cute were unnecessary. Fred was unrealized as was Carson. All the characters were at about a six on the realism scale, slightly more real than a Rom com.
If you are a fan of books like The Proposal, then this book is perfect for you! From the first chapter of this book I was hooked. Scarlett hiding in her food trucks where she makes amazing cupcakes trying not to be confronted by Guy Chapman her nemesis is a great way to start the book. My favorite quote is when Scarlett is describing the time she set Guy on fire... yes.. you read that correctly- set him on fire Here is a quote from Scarlett as describes Guy’s scent that fateful day -“Not like a normal woodsy pine scent, but like a fancy forest where the birds wear Rolexes and the deer drive Teslas. He was behind me, so close and leaning in and I…basically lost my mind.” I love the descriptions in this book from Scarlett’s subway ride, the walk in art fiasco, and cat yoga just to name a few. I also love the characters- not just the main characters but also Fred, Carson, and Granny. I like the detail that Mary Frame puts in about NY food trucks and Angelman Syndrome. The characters are quirky and lovable and the story easy to read. I haven’t read any other books by this author or from this series so this is an easy to read stand alone if you haven’t been fortunate enough to read any other books in this series. I plan on reading the other books!5 out of 5 stars!!
After dealing with the new world full of Covid19 for over a month, this book was such a refreshing bright ray of sunshine in my life.
I found Mary Frame's books a few years ago and I love her style and humor. I truly get her! This book is another great story. Her characters in this book (and past books) are quirky and lovable and I miss them already now that I have finished this book.
Two people that would seem to not be each other's soulmate, find that they are truly meant to be. The path that they find this out is funny and hot blooded. There are many humorous scenes which had me laughing and I appreciated that at this time of life so much! While the story is light-hearted and an easy read, it also has a serious side to it at times.
I received the advanced reading copy of this book from the author. My review is my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.
This was an ARC from the author. There were quite a few spelling and errors that should have been picked up in the editing process. Ignoring that I liked the characters, especially Scarlet. She’s very funny and stays true to her character throughout the book. I had the feeling the book was forced, it just didn’t have the natural flow that this authors other novels did for me.
This was a good read. Scarlett is a baker with a food truck. Guy is a famous chef who wants to but her out. What starts as business enemies turns out to be much more. They did have a rough start but once she got to know him things changed. I was glad that everything worked out for the tow of them in the end.
This book is so sweet and charming. I love the plots and pranks. I love the awkward moments that have me blushing while reading. All the books of this series deserve to be read. Mary writes with lighthearted humor that isn't too sweet.
Cute kind of Hallmark rom com. Runs a cupcake truck, and Gus runs the high brow restaurant that wants her gone. Of course sparks fly and romance sparks fly. Totally happily ever after.
Reminded me of "The Opposite of You". Spunky and hard-working, talented chef/turned baker Scarlett owns a cupcake food truck. Through a friend she's been able to rent a great location to set up her new truck; right across the street from popular chef/reality TV star Guy. Guy is looking to expand his exclusive restaurants into a dining precinct but to make it work he needs to buy the land Scarlett is renting and move her out.
Scarlett had a run-in with Guy a year ago and her career as a chef stalled because of it. She started her food truck business, but to make ends meet in expensive and competitive New York she also does catering jobs on the side.
Guy has a reputation as a tough perfectionist and all his staff are scared of him (except his assistant Carson who is a bit campy and all brilliant). Underneath the hard-nosed persona Guy shows publicly he is a caring and kind man who is the guardian of his cheeky 13 year old twin sisters and who is going through a tricky divorce.
Guy and Scarlett have an instant attraction but because of circumstances they struggle against it. Scarlett has a bad history with men and Guy is still in the process of a divorce. Despite their misgivings they continue to spend time together getting closer. Watching their relationship develop was sweet.
Written in dual POV with little food related quotes at the start of each chapter. I devoured it all in one sitting.
What a fun book. It’s about a klutzy southern chef, Scarlett, who couldn’t find a job, so she bought a truck and started baking cupcakes. She parks that truck in a spot right next to the ritzy row of restaurants owned by a top chef, Guy, who wouldn’t hire her. A bit of a prank war starts between the two when he wants her parking spot to expand his outdoor seating, but she doesn’t want to give it up. But love and war are just a hairbreadth apart.
This is a fun and witty book, filled with humor, surprises, and romance. It’s heart-warming, and will envelope you in the story quickly, and keep you wrapped up until the very end. Scarlett is an amazing person. As with all of the Mary Frame books that I’ve read, this one is a winner.
While this is book six in the series, it works perfectly as a standalone. Also, the lead characters are great, but it’s the secondary characters that truly make this book sing. Combine them, and you get a wonderful, perfect romantic comedy. The writing is great, the story well plotted, and it is, truly, a quick, fun read.
I received a free ARC of this book from the author. I thank her for her generosity, but it had no effect on this review. All opinions in this review reflect my true and honest reactions to reading this book.
With a notice on her new book release it’s been in my que for a couple of weeks, to say I wanted it to be a special occasion to enjoy it. You see yesterday was Mother’s Day, which meant I got to doordash my favorite dinner sit in the comfy chair and not do a single thing but my favorite thing which is to read. So I have had her book waiting because I knew I needed a good book on a great day to read. It did not disappoint Scarlett is everything my awkward self could ever want in a leading woman. This is something you see in all of Mary’s books, there’s just a piece of each character you see in yourself that grips you and superglues you to the story. Then you add in cupcakes, geek references (don’t think that supernatural quote didn’t make squeal like a 13 year old cas obsessed fan girl) annnnd a woman who has parental issues. So do yourself a favor, read the book you will meet new characters to love and even see a splash of good old moonshine loving granny. The book will hit you hard in the feels.
So it has been a while since I read a book in nearlh a day, but Mary always makes me do that with every book she writes “hard to put down” I let my husband look after the baby so I could read hahaha ! But anyway I really loved this fun story,, it made me crave cupcakes and laugh alot through out reading it.
I always end up learning something new in mary’s books,, how foodtrucks work and Angel sydrome (sorry not sure if I wrote that right) Scarlet reminded me a little of myself (always something going on bumping into stuff and getting stuck and wondering how the hell it keeps happening)
Also love how all the stories always seem to connect to each other ❤️
No spoilers here nothing but love for the imperfect series,, Mary,, your writing you are awesome !
Guy is a chef that once participated in a cooking show. He owns a restaurant right next to a rental lot where Scarlett parks her For Goodness Cakes truck. The land is also where he intends to execute another business deal. Something unfavorable happened before when Scarlett was being interviewed with Guy. As a result, it's understandable that everytime Guy comes over to the truck to struck up a deal, Scarlett runs away without thinking.
This book is very easy to read and quite fast-paced too. The conflicts were not dragged on too long and the characters were mature enough to try and communicate. And the quotes relating to food on every new chapter was fun!
Overall, if you like cupcakes and romance, this is for you.
This is a story of a famous Chef named Guy who is a bit misunderstood. After Guy appeared on a reality cooking show his life changed, then a woman from his past turned it upside down and right side up. Guy has a reputation for being ruthless, strict and demanding, however he is completely different out of the kitchen, especially with those he loves. Scarlett is a sweet southern baker who once had a terrible accident with he famous chef Guy, so when he confronts her she tries to avoid and hide from him. Scarlett so learns that Guy isn’t who he seems to be. This story is adorable, the twist and turns will keep you begging for more. I adored Ava and Emma and was touched by them. It’s a must read.
This is book 6, the final book of the Imperfect series. It can technically be read as a stand alone, but the main character is a side character in previous books. I have read the entire series in less than a week. I read this one in one sitting. Scarlett owns a dessert food truck and Guy is a famous chef she once auditioned for and accidentally set him on fire. Her food truck is parked near his new fancy restaurant and Guy wants her to find somewhere else to park it. Can enemies turn into lovers? You’ll have to read it to find out!
"Imperfectly Delicious" by Mary Frame is a delightful addition to the "Imperfect" series. The narrative skillfully blends humor and heart, weaving a tale of self-discovery and romance. Protagonist Julia's quirky charm and relatable imperfections make her endearing. The witty dialogue and well-developed characters create an engaging read, keeping the pages turning. The story explores themes of acceptance, embracing flaws, and finding love in unexpected places. Frame's writing style is both entertaining and emotionally resonant, making this installment a satisfying and enjoyable read for fans of romantic comedies. "Imperfectly Delicious" is a sweet concoction of love, laughter, and self-acceptance.
Haters to Lovers. Chef MCs. Dual POVs. MMC Bachelor Brother. Opened Door Romance. Forced Proximity. 👩🏼🍳👨🏼🍳 THINGS I LIKED 1. The chef MCs. I love chefs and books with cooking tropes 2. I love the MC's relationship. The hatred was not too much or toxic. It was a short part of the book 3. I liked the MC because he was a good brother, and he went through a better character development 👨🏼🍳👩🏼🍳 THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE 1. Scarlett didn't meet her parents. I wanted her too 2. I didn't like the ending. I wanted something more dramatic 👩🏼🍳👨🏼🍳 All in all, it was a good book with amazing characters and good storyline. You should definitely add it to your tbe 👨🏼🍳👩🏼🍳
'Imperfectly Delicious' was delightful. The entertaining plot was filled with an awkward first impression, owning a food truck, skirting around the renowned chef, hilarity, meeting the sisters, feeling rejected, an epiphany, a big misunderstanding, Christmas at Granny's, developing a relationship, and love. Moreover, Scarlett and Guy, the protagonists, worked hard to achieve their HEA. They gushed with chemistry and were soul mates. I liked the author's word choices which created a lively tone. Overall, I liked the amusing narrative.
