Royal Mates #2

Shifter Fated

Rate this book
I’ve got a trio of demons on my tail and I pissed off a bunch of vampires. Oh yeah, and there’s a human hunter after my mates. All of them. Did I mention that I have a mating bond with multiple males? I thought my life was weird as a supernatural hunter. Now that I’m the protector of the last moonstone, things have gotten positively insane.

It’s possible we’ll find a solution to this. I might even survive. But for that to happen everything would have to go right.

Considering that there’s a bounty on my head, I don’t think that’s going to happen.

My only chance is convincing one of the bad guys to change sides. The only thing he wants in return? Me.

And it’s getting harder to keep turning him down.

If you like fast paced action, supernatural mystery, a kick ass female protagonist, and sexy as sin male leads grab your copy today!

I've been with Alexis Calder ever since she wrote her first book. And although some of her book are more my thing than others, she never disappoints. (I saw yesterday that I missed a book somewhere, I do remember that it was a conscious choice, but I wanna look into it) So, the moment I got the e-mail that the ARC for this book was available, I made sure to get it. And the moment I got it, I made sure to start reading as soon as possible.

And for a second book, this book is truly amazing. Although the book is, like so many middle books, moving the characters from the finale of book one to the beginning of book 3, it also has its own plot, its own events and its own happenings. The one thing I really wanted to happen happened in this book (see? I'm trying not to spoil things here!) And on top of that we get a lot of information on past, present and future alliances.

Along the way we also learn and see more of the supernatural world our characters are living in. Personally I would love to dive into Vampire territory a little deeper and I would also love to see the realm where our demons come from, but actually I have high hopes that the vampires will at least play a bigger part in the next book. However, I did enjoy everything we got to see and I loved the political intrige and the ever changing loyalties even more!

Just like I really enjoyed the characters and watching them grow and learn. Especially our heroine is discovering new parts of herself and learning how those parts of herself work and what those parts of herself need. There are a few more steps to take for her and I can't wait to witness her taking them. I also liked getting to know the guys a little better. We learned more about their motives, personalities and backgrounds.

And now I'm really excited about the next book!

Things definitely picked up in this second installment. The plot thickens, there’s once again no real resolution (meaning you really have to read all 3 in a row or don’t bother), and we add another mate.

His addition is thankfully more fireworks than the two other lackluster bonding events, more like I would expect from an incubus. (I feel bad because I feel like Xander probably would’ve knocked Skylar’s socks off if he hadn’t been jammed in the back seat of a car, but… ya know.) I will say that the build up to the third mate bond kind of bugged me; Skylar is really naive and acts really dumb about the bonds, she doesn’t realize that’s what is happening with David even though it’s her third mate bond, and her second with an incubus (the whole my daddy didn’t teach me about these things only goes so far). But she still considers sleeping with him “oh maybe I should have a couple of Os to take the edge off since we’re stuck here” MA’AM YOU HAVE MATES. Mates that you got super possessive and jealous over!! Mates you *claimed* as yours alone. And you’re going to casually consider boinking who up until that point had been your enemy?? And like… the author clearly just expects you to accept that it was because they were mates and she didn’t know that’s why she was feeling that way but it just felt disingenuous and shitty. Elias & Xander deserved better, especially when they get again take it in stride.

Of course they got the bomb dropped on them when there was a knife to skylars throat, so there was no time for arguing or guilt but ugh.

Anyway I’m obv committed to seeing how this ends. As frustrating as the FMC is the story itself is compelling.

I enjoyed this work and am looking forward to the next and final installment in the series. There was a lot going on in this work, so many events happened that I was never sure what was going to happen next. I found myself drawn into the story and kept trying to unravel what was going on, never sure who to trust and where the next chapter would take me. There was a lot of character growth over the course of the work and there will be more in the final book. I can’t wait to see what happens.

I give this a four out of five stars.

Dude, I am so glad I discovered Alexis Calder, the Royal Mates series is the best. Shifter Fated is the second book in the series and it was so freaking awesome, loved every single moment of it. Skylar, Xander, and Elias are still trying to destroy the moonstone, while dealing with rogue vampires, enforcers, and a league of others, including David, Elias's brother. Let's just say things don't go smoothly and a larger conspiracy is uncovered and things get even more complicated than they were before.

Skylar went from being a lone wolf (pun intended, haha) to working with not one but two alpha male mates. Skylar is strong, smart, and feisty and after her dad died, Skylar has only ever counted on herself, now she is learning to work with and sometimes depend on her mates. It's a big change for her but she is willing to try things out with them, to work with them on figuring out how to destroy the moonstone, and in turn, is steadily growing closer to them. She still the strong, kick-butt female she was she just has the help and trust of her mates.

Speaking of her mates, I adore Xander and Elias and I love getting to know them more in this book. Each of them had a little bit of their past revealed and it gives better insight into who they are. Xander is an alpha wolf shifter who sees Skylar as an equal and is willing to follow her lead. While Elias is very protective but knows Skylar can handle herself. They both are great for her, she's not alone anymore. However, it becomes obvious that Elias and Xander need to work on their relationship with each other. They both love Skylar and are willing to do anything for her including put up with the other and while they are not at each other's throat, they aren't friends either, more like acquaintances and no way that's gonna work long term.

I found the first book plot to be interesting and Alexis upped her game with Shifter Fated, it was complex and interesting, all the while being quick and fun. To be fair the quick part could be because I loved the book so much I couldn't help but devour it. So we know that the moonstone is power and no one should have that kind of power but there seem to be several events pointing to a bigger conspiracy surrounding the stone. Not only that but there was a plot twist that makes things a lot more complicated and has Skylar and the guys questioning everything. They start to put the pieces together but they still don't have any solutions. Other supernaturals come into play and a lot more supernatural politics come into play which I loved. I would love more information on the mages and while they had a smaller part in this book I think they might come in handy in the final book.

I loved Shifter Fated, the story was so entertaining, the action, steam, conspiracies, magic, surprises, and plot twists were great. Something happened toward the end of the book that validated a theory I formed in the first book and shockingly enough I'm happy about it which I did not see coming. A character pleasantly surprised me and gave me some key information that has my mind running through the possibilities. Things most definitely got more difficult at the end of the story, war is looming, a powerful enemy has been revealed and things for Skylar just got more complicated including figuring out who her mother was. I think Royal Mates is just a trilogy and if it is I am so beyond excited to see how the story ends and if not I'm ready for the story to continue, up next, Shifter Rising.

This book picks up a little bit after the first book. There was a bit of a break for Skylar to relax a bit after proving that she didn't kill her roommate. I have to admit it, I have been waiting for this book for ages! I was so excited to see what else lied in store for Skylar after she picked up the moonstone. Now that she has finished finding the killer, now she has to finish the job that her friend had left for her. Take care of the moonstone. Only difference is that Skylar is on a mission to destroy that moonstone that is causing a ton of people to chase her and want her dead. I really do feel bad for her in that aspect. But then I get jealous of her when her supposed mates that do everything they can to keep her safe and to help her get rid of that moonstone. Things really do pick up in this book and I can't wait to see what else lies in store for Skylar and her guys!

I did a whole blog post for this book, if you want to read my full thoughts on the book check it out!

Honestly, I hate middle stories. The action ramps up but other parts always seem to sort of linger on too long. It's a delicate balance that Calder performs adeptly. Along with action, the romance works well this time around as well. We found out at the first meeting that Elias and Skylar are mates, despite not being able to act on it initially. We also got the instant intense connection and repulsion between her and Xander, which made for some interesting moments of push and pull. This book, there is no will-they-won't-they going on, and that is by far my favorite part of the book. While I appreciate how strong and capable Skyler is written, I appreciate her strength more when its tempered by vulnerability. It took a lot for me to get over her unwillingness to shed tears for her best friend in book one, so I was able to like her more in Fated than I did with Claimed. Without the distraction of her personality, I was able to really appreciate the world building and the mythology and action involving the moonstone. I expect book three will be even better than this one.

On the Run . . .

In this book, Skylar has found Lola’s killer and watched him die. Skylar admits she needs the help of Xander and Elias to destroy the moonstone. They both told her they were her mates, but she isn’t sure how that works with her being a hybrid. But they may be right. She knows she is drawn to them and maybe they do have a mating bond happening! Vampires and demons are after the stone, so they are sticking close to her.

With all of the enemies they are dealing with, including David, Elias's brother, Skylar has her work cut out for her. Can she bring David over to her side? Will he try to save her or kill her? He did step in and prevent the assassin from shooting her, then kept the vampires busy with his hellhound friends ripping them apart. But he wanted the moonstone. He didn’t grab it this time, but he wanted her to offer it to him. But he released his magic and let her jump in the car with Xander and race away from the vampire attack. There is a larger conspiracy out there, and things are becoming even more complicated.

Skylar is learning to deal with having two mates now. She is dealing with learning about her demon half. Skylar and Xander go find more information in destroying the crystal. Skylar learns more information about wolf half. Skylar and Xander learn some promising information about the stone but they have been located. Elias has gone to see the vampire queen about what he has discovered. Elias is confused by how the Queen is behaving. Elias is given information that changes his world. Skylar has also has to deal with David, she really doesn't have a choice.

There is a some major twist and turns in this book that will changes the characters world. Skylar will be going through some discoveries. This book will keep you reading until you reach the end. The way this book ended was so good. Can't wait for the final book in series.

Wow! ❤❤❤

Shifter Fated is the second book in the Royal Mates series, and this series fabulous! The story continues with Skylar and her two mates, Elias and Xander... one for each of her wolf and demon sides.

They are on the run from multiple groups... rogue vampires, the Assassin's Guild, a human assassin who has the ability to kill and hurt Immortals, and Elias's brother, David, and his two hellhounds. They are trying to destroy the moonstone and finally figure out the how... but the need the who to pull it off. Elias's sister is shown to be alive, so they have to add finding her to their list of things to do.

Someone in their circle is a traitor though... and truths start being revealed. A huge plot twist happens with David!! 😉

I love this series and I'm eagerly anticipating the next book in the series!!!

I recieved an ARC for my honest review.

Yet again another fantastic book by Alexis Calder, I thought the first book in this series was good but this one honestly tops it.

It’s well written with such detail, love diving into the supernatural world. The storyline is well thought out and continues the love triangle between Skylar, Elias and Xander and their mission to destroy the moonstone.

I enjoyed how this book steps up, love the suspense and twists - wow, oh so good!

It’s so hard to give a review on this book without hiving away spoilers, so I’m stopping here - don’t want to ruin your enjoyment when you’re reading it.

I honestly enjoyed this book and couldn’t put it down until the very last word. Can’t wait for book 3 to see what happens with David.

Mystery, suspense, action, drama, and more. Skylar finds out she is half demon and wolf, but she also has bonds with a few of the supernatural world. Now she has everyone after her? She don't know who to trust and where to stay safe. Can she ever figure out how to destroy the moonstone? Can she keep it safe until she can? Can she keep her men safe and herself? Now David is in the picture what is she going to do with him? Is he trying to kill her or save her? So follow Skylar on her fight for what is right.

Demons, shifter and a demon-shifter...good times!

Skylar, her demon mate, Elias, and her alpha wolf mate, Xander, are getting deeper and deeper into the Vampire Queen's mess. It's up to them to try and destroy the moonstone. They will still need help, another demon. Plus there are a couple of twists that change the game plan a few times. I loved Xander's grandparents. I expect book three to be even more exciting and dangerous.

I requested a free copy of this book from Booksprout and this review is my own opinion.

Skylar has to learn how to harness her powers.
Skylar, Xander, and Elias have to find a way to destroy the moonstone before it falls into wrong hands and starts a war. They find out who is behind everything and Elias learns he can’t trust the people he thought were his allies. And Skylar learns a demon incubus he has been avoiding might just be another mate and could help them destroy the moonstone. If they can get him on their side. This is book 2 in the Royal Mates series I was looking forward to reading this story and I wasn’t disappointed at all now I’m looking forward to reading book 3. Skylar has now proved her innocence but she has so many other supernaturals trying to kill her because she has the moonstone, Skylar wants to destroy the stone so the guys Elias and Xander who are her mates try to help Skylar find a way to destroy the stone but things are never that easy. I loved this story and the characters and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

I both love and hate these kinds of stories! Each one is like a puzzle piece and you have to have the others to see the whole picture. Each one leaves you wanting the rest.

Skyler picks up a new mate and the enemy is reveal. Unfortunately the fight isn’t over yet and there are still more questions to be answer and more for Skyler to find out about herself. War is coming!

A continuation from Shifter Claimed, and this is a series you should read in order. Elias's brother David pops back into the scene and plays a bigger role. I liked some of the twists and I liked that nobody did anything stupid, though they kept running into trouble. Skylar is pretty much on the run through most of the book. Because everyone seems to know about the moonstone and that Skylar has it.

I didn't like this one as well as the first, but it was still an easy read.

And the plot thickens. What will become of Skylar and her men? Stay tuned for book 3. I love it. This book it was very good, but it needed to be longer.

Characters were great and developed well. Plot line was well written and drama at the end was maddening. Over all, I really love this novel.

I going onto book 3 now.

There was SO MUCH potential for this series! It wasn’t horrible but it could have been so much better. It coulda went different ways as well. I like the idea of adding David into the mates because he was the fun one of it… i liked Ellis & Xander but we should’ve had more time with them. More connection. More mating. More of the story. Coulda been a lot better.

Very entertaining. Skylar and her mates have so much against them - vampires, demons, hunters...but if Skylar can learn how to use her magic at full force they will have an advantage. Can't wait for book 3 to see if Skylar and her 2 mates can overcome all that is against them!

Very Interesting…

Liking a strong female protagonist, I liked the way this book series started. Once we got to polygamy I sort of pulled back a bit. But the plot is good and I want to see where this goes so I am hanging in there for book 3!

Set up for book 3

Not too much happens in this one. Definitely a lot slower than the first book. It did have a couple of twists though and laid the groundwork for the next in the series.

I feel like this series has so much potential, but it’s like we’ve been dropped in the middle of the plot. It should have started with the twins story & the sisters, and continued on with what happened afterwards. It could have easily been added to the books as their POV’s.
