When she’s dragged back in time to 16th century Scotland, Melanie is thrust into the center of an old mystery and finds herself drawn to the changeling Aelfred who may unwittingly lead her straight into danger... Private investigator Melanie Orwell has been in a lot of weird situations in her ten-year career, but coming to the Highlands of centuries ago definitely takes the cake. When she ends up at the center of the Loch, struggling in the water, the fact that she’s not alone lets her push aside the strangeness for a moment and spurs her into action to save both their lives. Aelfred Grant was adopted by the Sidhe at a very young age and has little memory of his parents or life outside the Burgh. Now that his adoptive family has sent him forth to live his adult life on Earth, he faces the mystery of his past and the distraction of the time-lost woman who emerged from the water with him. The romance blossoming between Melanie and Aelfred is put to the test when the dark secret of his past returns to the present, with sights set on them both. Melanie must use her skills to help Aelfred get to the bottom of his situation while also protecting him from a danger too close to home. I've read this author's historical romances for years, starting with her Jane Austen fanfiction years ago. She writes the historical romance subgenres I so enjoy: time travel, JAFF, Regency, and Scottish. That's why I always pick up her books at a book review site when I see them, even though my experience with her books has been both pleasant and unenjoyable. Sometimes I have issues with her plots or characters; at other times, her wacky grammar, punctuation, and usage are like the proverbial nails on the chalkboard for this long-time copyeditor and proofreader. I had noticed an improvement in the latter once her books had an editor (who happens to be a fellow historical romance writer). But this author did not get her money's worth this time from this author-editor. The numerous errors of punctuation, grammar, and usage in this book drove me to distraction. It has multiple errors in every paragraph of any length. Comma splices galore. Odd combinations of independent clauses combined in one sentence with inappropriate punctuation. Egads, for a lover of English like me, it was torture to read this book! I did receive an ARC copy of this book, but these errors persist in the published edition as seen in the preview at Amazon. This author's storytelling has improved over time; I would suggest she read a book or two on grammar and find a true copyeditor or proofreader to make her stories more readable.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Promising but ultimately packed it in at around 24% after 13 pages of stupid inner monologue. So, Anna has traveled back in time from present day to 1600s Scotland, Loch Ness to be exact. No spoiler there, as that's in the blurb. In every similar time travel novel, the protagonist goes through a period of disbelief. Of course they do. I would too, and that's to be expected. However... there are pages and pages and pages given up to her inner thoughts on this subject. Okay, fair enough.. but she talks about how she is a 'scientifically trained' soldier, so she should be able to figure this out, right? So, she wonders if it was a wormhole. A wormhole is kind of the theoretical reverse of a blackhole, and theoretically a way to travel through space time to shorten the distance across the universe - i.e. space travel - not from your bed, back in time to Loch Ness. Then she wonders if it was a black hole - but, oh yeah, she does ask how a black hole could have gotten into her bedroom without destroying the planet and concedes "it wasn't likely". To that, add the constant references to her being short and her resentment of these 1600 warriors underestimating her. Yes, constant. She's short. We get it. But, how about you are in the 1600s where women are not soldiers, and even so, you are four foot freaking eleven - so maybe stop being so snarky. Sorry - more action, less talk, more intelligence less foolishness, and.. well.. anyway, this is not the book for me. If you like it very simple, not asking too much mentally - maybe you'll like it.
By not using her good judgment and being carried away by her emotions, Melanie Orwell led to a near-fatal outcome that could have had disastrous consequences. After being dragged into the past and with an intriguing partner with his own issues, Melanie found herself questioning her feelings about her new reality, her attraction to Aelfred, and her usefulness in helping. Still confused after his return, Aelfred was out of place, with his memory impaired and strong feelings for Melanie. When things seemed to progress Elfred and Melanie found themselves threatened by a strange situation that created questions about Aelfred's past. Interesting Aelfred’s situation, how Melanie's skills come into play and Father Caleb taking a stand. Like how the time travel women’s skills are paired with the mysteries to solve. Action, suspense, intrigue, magic, violence, romance and passion. An interesting copy that I liked.
"Trusted By The Highlander" is my new favorite of the Highlander Forever series. I always enjoy Rebecca Preston's Scottish Time Travel Romances. In this story, Melanie is a present day private investigator. When a case goes awry she finds herself transported back in time to Medieval Scotland. She arrives in the Loch and encounters Aelfred Grant who himself has just returned after years spent with the Sidhe. They make their way to Clan Grant's keep where Melanie meets other women that came through time. They both struggle to find their place in this new world they are in but Aelfred is also trying to make sense of his past. As they work together to fit in, a close bond develops between them. Things about Aelfred's past start to come to light and Melanie is determined to figure it out. This is another wonderful story with great characters and if you have read the other books in the series, it is always fun to catch up with the other ladies and the happenings with Clan Grant.
I really liked this story. I love Melanie and Aelfred, especially Aelfred. If I had read this as a stand-alone I would have given it a higher rating. So what’s the problem?
The problem is the inability of this author to keep her characters in order. She needs to put a damn chart in front of her as she writes. In the book before this one she mixed up characters, which I thought maybe a one time issue. Not so. This time she says that Karen, the doctor, is married to Liam, the stablemaster. Wrong, Liam is married to Kay, the veterinarian. Karen is married to Connor who is a member of the Watch permanently stationed in the village.
The author hasn’t met a punctuation mark that she hasn’t misused. Her 16th century characters are speaking in a too modern manner. I could go on. This series is better than the previous of her books I have read. She needs a better editor that forces her to abandon her love of run on sentences.
Melanie is a Private Investigator who gets injured when on a job. She finds herself waking up in the middle of a lake – in 16th century Scotland. She meets Aelfred Grant who himself has just returned after years spent with the Sidhe. Melanie and Aefred find their way to the castle and meet the Grant’s – as well as the other ladies who had previously been sent back in time.
Melanie does not know how she can be useful in this time. This is the story of how Melanie and Aelfred get to know each other better and how they find their place in the castle.
This is part of a series and although it mentions previous characters and events it is a stand alone story. Maggie and Nessie also make an appearance. Good Story.

Aelfred Grant has just returned to medieval Scotland after years spent with the Sidhe when he runs into Melanie in the loch. Both are unsure what happened or why exactly they ended up there. Melanie is from the futures are many of the Grant women, saved from certain death by the Sidhe. Now they are both targets of narrow minded, rumor, innuendo, and accusations from someone who should show Aelfred unconditional love and acceptance. Melanie puts her PI experience to work working out this puzzle. This book has great pace, has interesting characters, and is a page turner from beginning to end. My favorite couple in this solid series. Each book are great reads, but tis is my favorite.

The Sidhe bring Aelfred and Melanie together in the most interesting way. A little added mystery plus some suspicion and persecution kept both characters on their toes. Spending most of his childhood in the land of the Fae, Aelfred faced a number of challenges as he returned to the human world. While he was more abstract in his perceptions and opinions while embracing living in the moment, Melanie was more concrete and analytical in her approach. It was fun watching both of them learn about this new place and time together while figuring out their own way. As well, it was satisfing to see things work out in the end,

I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. This is the eighth book in the Highlander Forever series. It is a love story between Melanie and Aelfred. She is a personal investigator that travel back centuries to the Highlands. There she meets Aelfred and the magic continues. Their story has mystery, suspense, drama and danger. It also has two people who develop feelings not knowing what the future will hold. I enjoyed their story. It was well written and hard to put down

I could leave it at "Scottish Time Travel" and a lot of readers would go for it but this was an exceptional story. In this our heroine is dragged back into the past and the hero is dragged from the Sidhe where he's spent most of his life. Two lost souls. I loved Melanie - she's a P.I. and her skills will be what saves them. I've enjoyed this entire series, but I think this was one of the best. I liked the characters, there was enough of a different kind of suspense and the woman who comes back in time isn't some helpless little woman that doesn't contribute, in fact her skills are what is key to them finding their HEA
This book 8 in the Highlander Forever Series is a well-written time travel romance story with amazing and wonderful characters that are very interesting. There is drama, intrigue, tension, turmoil, danger, and they get thrust into an old mystery and danger. This story has action, adventure, betrayal, twists, turns, chemistry and love with a HEA that must be worked for. These characters have great personalities that are brought alive by this great Author

I absolutely love this series, even though the basic concept is the same, women from the future come to medieval Scotland and finds true love, each is so different. And this one is different to the others in many ways. Not as much detective work as previous books but more about the budding romance and lots more about the fae. Look forward to the next book in the series.

This is probably one of favourites in this fun series. 21st century highly independant career minded ladies are transported to 16th century by the Sidhe to avoid death. This one has a nice twist as the love interest is no ordinary highlander, but a changeling who has just arrived back from the land of the Sidhe. Action, suspense, humour and great attention to detail make this book a pleasure to read.
I absolutely loved this book. Loved how both Melanie and Aelfred came to be there the same way. Melanie took a while to acclimate, but when she did she sure came into her own. I loved how she used her skills, didn’t let anyone bring her down. This is a fantastic book, I think it’s my favorite so far in the series.

This is their story of getting to know there new surroundings. Awesome story
She is a PI with her dad. During a case she is wounded and travels back in time. This one has action, adventure and mystery. It brings in the other ladies that fell through time. I like that as it should be in a series.

Melanie is not a fae but finds herself swimming in a 16th century Loch. Who knew an attractive highlander would be there too. Mystery. Villains. Mystical myths and finding solutions. Action packed fun. No cliff

I chose to read this book because it was next in the series. Melanie and Aelfred were actually two of my favorite characters in this series. This was the first couple in the order of books who had no conflict with each other. The conflict was outside of their relationship. They worked together each time to solve issues. Quite refreshing.
This was a very fun read. Melanie and Aelfred made an intriguing couple that i found easy to root for. The engaging story grabs and hold your interest with combination of adventure, drama, emotion, action, danger and romance. I enjoyed it. Of my own accord I'm posting a unbiased review.
Really enjoyed reading this action packed, sexy, fun and engaging adventure filled with exciting charters, witty dialog, heart racing twists and highly entertaining turns...... great reading. An edge of your seat emotionally thrilling journey that kept me reading all night long.
I loved the entire story and want to know more about their lives now. Each book in the series hooks you in and leaves you wanting more. Please keep these tales going.
That's the whole series read and each and every one has been different and exciting! This is about Melanie and aelfred. Two people through the burgh at the same time but from different places
Ok enjoyed that this story was original and a little different in that the evil didn't come through the burnt but came with Melanie when she landed in Loch Ness. I'm really enjoying this series.
This was a good and exciting story. Melanie and Aelfred’s life was hard and finding his mother’s body was closure too. My late husband’s mother has been gone for about 58 years they never found a body so no funeral.
I am hooked on these books, I can't wait to read the next one in the series. I will be sad when I have read all of them. It's amazing how much I love following the story line and can't put the book down till I finish it.
Good story just a little different from others but thats why I liked it. It involved all the time travel ladies and the whole clan which was nice as well. It kept you held to the story
