Rate this book
Would your family survive in lockdown if society were to collapse? Learn how to prepare your home now.Three quarters of Americans say they’re worried about serious incidents, natural disasters, and terror attacks affecting their communities, yet many of them are completely unprepared.

We are used to a world in which our homes are supplied with fresh water, gas, and electricity. We’re used to having our waste removed and our sanitary needs met.

These are all things we’ve come to expect, but what would happen if they were taken away?

Flooding, hurricanes, and pandemics are affecting areas we once thought were safe from disaster--we shouldn’t take anything for granted.

Prepping is no longer just for preppers; every family needs to be fully equipped to hunker down at home in case the unexpected happens.

Do you have enough food to see you through months without a grocery store?Have you thought about what you’d do if you had no access to running water? Are you able to live comfortably in your home without power? These are things you need to think about. Now’s the time to ask, “What if…?”

Your home is the perfect place to shelter and keep your loved ones safe in case society were to collapse, but you need to know how to use it to its fullest if the luxuries we’re used to are no longer available. Your home should always be your safe space--not just when the electricity’s running.

In When Crisis Hits A Modern-Day Prepping Guide to Effectively Bug In and Protect Your Family Home in a Societal Collapse, you’ll learn exactly what you need to know to prepare your home for an emergency. You’ll

The 6 key priorities of survival and how to make sure you have them coveredA clear guide for knowing when it’s time to stay in, and when it’s time to evacuateTop prepper survival secrets so that you always stay one step ahead of the restA toolbox of information that allows you to choose what works best for your familyPractical tips for preparing your children for worst-case scenarios without frightening themHow to make sure your water supply is 100% safe at all timesComprehensive checklists for everything you need to stock in your homeEssential administrative tasks you should have sorted in advance before a disaster strikesAnd much more.

You might have thought of filling your cupboards and checking the first aid kit, but have you really considered what would happen if you didn’t have electricity?

The ideal home is not only the home that keeps you and your family safe in good times, but it’s the home that keeps you safe no matter what.

Preparing your home to be just that doesn’t have to be complicated, but it does require you to think outside of what you’re used to.

When was the last time you asked yourself, “What if…?”

This book breaks things down for the average person that's curious about prepping or just wants to be clued up on what to do in emergencies.

It's not alarmist, just practical.

It’s extremely helpful and easy to understand without being overwhelming, given the amount of information the book contains.

A decent introduction to prepping for the suburbanite. This would make a good gift for someone who might be receptive to the notion that one ought to have some supplies on hand but wouldn't subscribe to any of the stereotypical prepper kookiness. The language is calm and reassuring but at the same time insistent that things can indeed go wrong.

The main thesis of the book is that the average person in the suburbs should "bug in" (stay at home) instead of "bugging out" (the dream of some who imagine that it'll be like auditioning for a part as an extra in The Walking Dead). The following chapters offer some thin guidance on critical areas like food, water, hygiene, etc. A true novice would probably want some checklists or template plan to assist but those are absent. Also, the author is not coming from a place of any true expertise as the advice offered is of the most general variety. No tips on bushcraft or how to fashion a hammock out of bark in this tome. His recommendation to pass on the AR-15 suggests that he has little experience with firearms. Anyone with experience as a Boy Scout or in the military can probably pass on this.

Not much going on in this book beyond generalisations and basics. Most of the other reviews appear to be sponsored (free book for a review). So you wonder if they are genuine reviews.
Very disappointed in this book, and very skeptical of the authors genuine expertise in this subject. His website is down for months and his Facebook group doesn't exist.
I would avoid this book and look for one of the more established and credible authors with more than just sponsored reviews.

Things I hadn't considered...

There things in this book that I have not seen covered well elsewhere: 1. Dealing with your neighbor's trash and bathroom waste, 2. Getting a camp shower set-up, 3. Teaching your kids by giving them maturity-appropriate tools of their own. Mr. Riley covers many basics well but these 3 points were outstanding to me.

I have come to a very serious conclusion

This book made me realize that I am not surviving anything. I was expecting more information about creating a food forest or homesteading. Instead, there's a lot of information about "security" and it suggests some stuff that I am not willing to do.

I found some parts of this book helpful in a 'never thought of that' kind of way. Some of it is not applicable though, as I live in a different country (no firearms for example).
It's interesting and partially helpful, but I'm hoping I won't need to try any of it out!

This is my 2nd book by this author - Ted Riley. Each are absolutely packed full of information but presented in easily digestible ways. They go beyond the usual prepper rhetoric. Most prepper books assume you will “bug out”, which really isn’t reality for most people. I love that this book focuses on effectively “bugging in” for those of us living in suburbia. This book is very apropos as we’ve been living almost the last 2 years in a pandemic complete with lockdowns, societal unrest, inflation, food insecurity, empty shelves, and more. It’s been a wake-up call for many people. If that’s you - get this book. It has everything you need to know. In it you’ll learn about preparedness basics, the 6 essentials of survival, checklists, practical tips, and more. This one book covers it all.

Great starting point

With the world devolving daily and with the devastating pandemic possibility a little more real and not just a Netflix show or a tv show/movie I imagine more and more think it might be a good idea to prep. The empty or emptier shelves struck fear into many hearts. This book is great starting point for the novice prepper. For those who more advanced in preparedness it also offers great reminders for some of the basics one might forget or overlook. Worth a read. Just to be clear-I purchased this on my Kindle Unlimited but also received a gifted copy in exchange for an honest review. I accepted the gift because I wanted the Peppers Pantry. I will submit a separate review for that book as well.

This short book is not going to prepare you or your family for societal collapse, natural disaster, or any other emergency you can imagine. What it will do is give you the foundation to know what challenges you need to think about and prepare for so you can point your research in the right direction.

Each chapter covers a different aspect of prepping to "bug in" and there were several considerations that I would have missed. I appreciate the practicality of his approach and his lack of focus on just hoarding guns and cosplaying soldier. I now have the word ammosexual in my vocabulary.

It's good to be prepared and most of us don't know where to start. This is a decent book for helping with that.

This is just perfect as a planning tool!

This book has the necessary specificity for a naive newby to become prepared to keep her/his family safe in a shtf situation. I really like the author giving examples for how to purify water, sources for medical care when there are no hospitals available, etc. This book is so useful, I ordered a paperback copy of it, along with a few other books the author recommends. Very satisfied that this is just what I was looking for: a practical, safe way to prepare for the safety of loved ones when the shtf, as it just might, given the chaotic state of the world.

This was so excellent resource for preparing your family not just for SHTF situations but for natural disasters etc. The author has a common sense, no fear-mongering approach to living life focusing on self-reliance and independence using your home as your primary survival shelter. Topics covered include: when and why to bug in; emergency preparedness basics; water; food; medicine; security; energy; hygiene; home readiness and backup plan. He also stressed the need for an emergency response plan (documentation) the whole family can use. Highly recommend!

Not worth your time unless you really have no understanding of preparing for a disaster. If you’re a true novice this book would serve as an introduction.

I listened to the audiobook and was surprised at how general all of the information was. The book was a checklist of great prepping ideas that you’ll need to do further research on because Riley only skims the surface of broad topics.

He does offer some specific product recommendations, but those items could easily form a blog post.

Not worth spending money on.

An Easy Read Packed With Great Advice

This book was both practical and easy to follow. Unlike some books that make prepping for SHTF sound like an impossibly expensive and far-out adventure, this book focused more on small achievable tasks for preparing to “bug in” at home. It reminds readers that “bugging out” to a new location should be saved as a last resort option. For me, it was a perfect length.

Decent enough read on the topic of prepping. Nothing earth shattering that other books don't also cover, but has some nice tips and insight into overlooked things when preparing for a SHTF scenario. I particularly liked the section on food storage and thought his tips were well thought out. One thing of note is that this book is for those ready, right now, to start taking action. While it is a good read to understand prepping, it's more of a call to action book.

Food for thought

For those who have not been prepping, who have not already begun to share prepping ideas/plans with family.
Nevertheless, someone else's ideas should always be regarded

EXCELLENT RESOURCE BOOK ! And thank you to Hidden Gems for the gift of reading it. Not a thing to be read from cover to cover - although you can - but rather to keep for life-long reference. Easy to follow and chock full of great info.

Great

I've read a lot of survival guides and bug out guides, but this is the first bug in guide I've read. It really made me think of some things that I need to work on around my house to be better prepared for an emergency.

This book was a great way for my internet algorithm to begin to think I was a conspiracy theorist. Other than that, its practical applications could have been condensed into a medium-length article.

Hi.

Great book. I can'tafford a gun right now but may save. Magnum's are great for hunting apparently. Hopefully people can be peaceful, in the event of any emergency shtf scenario. Thanks.
