“I’ll take your soul and leave its shell. I’ve got a job to do, so live your life before I take it from you,” ~ REAPER.

I am the President of the Golden Skulls Motorcycle Club.

I never wanted the position, but suddenly, I was left with no choice when my Pop’s died.

I’ve been fighting my own demons since I was fifteen, barely hanging on to what little life has to offer me.

My nightmares keep me awake, never letting me forget what happened.

Nothing sates the demon roaring inside me just below the surface, not even the darkness from which it dwells.

When my past stumbles into the clubhouse, broken, beaten, and left for dead, I unleash my demon, knowing together we are the only ones who can protect her.

I never expected to see her again.

She is like me. We are one and the same.

I made her a promise once, and I will stop at nothing to keep it.

Someone hurt her.

That was a big mistake.

She is mine now.

Mine to protect.

First and last book I’ll read from this author.

There is so much wrong with this book, I don’t even know where to begin.
I wanted to like this book. The premise was good, but the delivery was terrible.
First and foremost, this book is in desperate need of an editor. It wasn’t just the 100+ grammatical errors that made this hard to read, it was also complete sentences that just didn’t make sense no matter how many times I reread them. It’s the switching from first to third person repeatedly, sometimes in the same sentence. It’s the fact that the author couldn’t seem to stick with any kind of plot for more than a few pages before it just went off the rails, over and over through the entire book. For example, in one chapter we are told Reaper hasn’t been able to handle being touched since he was rescued 12 years ago, then a few chapters later it’s that he couldn’t handle being touched for only the last year. The whole thing was just a choppy mess that, with a decent editor could have taken this book from a 1 star to at least a 3-4 star. And then, after trying to muddle through everything, the book just randomly ends.

Fabulous writing!

Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trope: heroine in peril
Angst: 😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Such a great read, I'm so excited to jump in the rest of the series. Tons of action with plenty of twists and turns. Definitely on the dark and grittier side. You can already see the beginnings of a very intricate world. I may have to keep notes, lol.

Major spoilers because I think it needs it.

First and foremost this book is not for the faint of heart. Nor is it for the safety readers because of the violence and abuse that constantly rears it's ugly head. Reaper and Remi are taken into a trafficking ring ages 15 and 8. Reaper after rescue goes on to live his life, but becomes like a mad king and executioner of his MC club. abusing his submissives where he doesn't even have sex with them anymore. Remi after rescue is put right back into the devil's hand's and is tortured, raped, you name it until she escapes at age 20. She remembers Max aka Reaper and sets out to find him and ask for help. This book was all kinds of intense until the very end and doesn't leave you feeling good even in the end because you know more shit is coming. There really aren't that many spoilers about this couple only that Remi will die in a later book only to possibly reappear later. But in between that time it looks like Reaper will father another child. Not just the one between him and Remi which had my hackles raised for some reason. I want to stress that no one's HEA is safe in this series. As the wedding that comes later on in the series kills off a bunch of beloved characters including Remi the h from this book. Someone in the reviews compared it to the Red Wedding from GOT aka Game of Thrones. So you get where I'm going with this. Usually I choose not to read books without guaranteed HEAs, but I'm going to push through. I'm a masochist. What can I say...

The plot: human trafficking. And I applaud the author for adding in the darkness of the occult that I myself have went down the rabbit hole of with my digging. Politicians, celebrities etc.. it's no secret anymore about the practices, ceremonies, sacrifices that are performed. It's not hard to search out and there are many accounts and eye witnesses with this. Which always circles around to human trafficking. So beware. This book tackles extremely difficult subjects. Though OTT sometimes with Remi's body being able to survive what she went through and stay pregnant during the abuse was farfetched. She's starved almost to death. Beat everyday though remains pregnant. Could that be possible? Who knows. But Reaper is a lunatic, but he's Remi's lunatic.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

A brutal hard hitting book.

The start hooks you immediately and you become absorbed into a a story that frankly is non stop abuse. Remi is raped and abused so many times, by multiple people that I found the healing aspect totally unrealistic. The 2nd time she's gang raped in all orifices yet seems to heal quickly, she'd be ripped to shreds internally.

The 3rd time she suffers such great torture, rape n abuse over a period of time that she looks like a corpse but yet still remains pregnant. Totally unrealistic you cannot suffer repeated violent gang rapes, beatings etc and be starved to the point you look skeletal and still carry a baby esp in the first 2 months.

Then it finally calms down and then becomes a sex fest, just sex scene after sex scene it becomes tedious n boring to the extent I skimmed. Less is more ffs

I enjoyed the dark n angst but the gratuitous sexual violence and sex scenes spoilt it for me.

When you read as much as I do you start to get burnt out on the sam regurgitation some of these authors put out but this, I'm here for. Reaper and Remi share a tragedy that no child should ever even hear about let alone live however, Remi lives it over and over again until she finds Reaper later in life. The two become one and still suffer through tragedies until there LIFE ever after. If you can handle reading the tragedy of child abuse then check this out however if you can't handle it as much as I like this "new author to me" I would recommend you skip this one. Happy reading to the rest of you brave souls.

Wow, it was HEARTBREAKING, DARK, DYNAMIC, HOT. It's all very beautifully written. Yes, the topic in this book is not an easy one. You won't believe it, it was very hard to read. Everything is so emotional. I'm still in shock at how much Remi has been through. What evil she had to face. And SURVIVE after all. Survive and heal again. It was heroically strong. She's a very strong girl. Max, this man is just incredible. He's been through his own hell too. But the way he loves Remy is so beautiful. No matter what, he followed her. She became everything to him. And he really needed her. I can say for sure that this author will become one of my few favorites. I like her writing style. 🖤🖤🖤🖤

This one is hard to review because a hell of a lot was going on. It is really rough with lots of triggering situations, but there is also some great characters and personalities that lightened the story.

I think it was a good story overall, and different from a lot of books I’ve read but I have a few niggles:

- people just kept appearing who the characters were all like “you’re back?” But we (the reader) didn’t know they’d been gone or who the heck they’re
- we got a lot of recaps about things that had happened before the book. If it’s so important feature it in the rest of the series. As it stands I felt like I was learning the life story and reading 15 different mini books
- I love all the different dynamics and the different people, but for a first book there was way too many named characters. I just couldn’t keep track. Maybe it could have been a bit more gradual. Also the use of brother was confusing as most of the people seemed to family brothers and MC brothers
- there were lots of annoying bits where someone would lay down proof of something happening but never fully explain what was the proof. It was like all the characters were having silent conversations and you were just listening. There was a lot of are you thinking what I’m thinking!? Well nope because I have no bloody idea what’s happening - use the words to explain you know like you do in a book!!

As I say it’s a good story, just felt like it needed a lot of editing. And less effort on filling in historical blanks and making more of the character development and relationships in the book

For example Remi and Max exchange I love yous but from reading the book you wonder why? They don’t spend that much time together and no real conversations

Woah this was the most ranting review I have ever written, I clearly feel strongly about this one, which to be honest isn’t that often so maybe I should give this book more credit that I am in this review…

Happy reading

Very Dark

Reaper and Remi meet when both are kidnapped. He was 15 and she was 8. Remi is strong to have gone through what she has and survived. They find love in each other but is that enough to hold the demons at bay?

End on a cliffhanger and this book does have many errors, but if you can get past them the story is worth reading. Beware of the trigger warnings.

It pains me to leave a negative review but this book was poorly written. So many grammatical errors I wondered if English was not the author's primary language. I struggled reading this, though the story is interesting the delivery failed. Only read about half the book and could not force myself to read any further.
Sorry, but I cannot recommend this book

Wow just Wow

Rebecca 100% Your Best writing ever. T touches a very Taboo but realistic subject. How you portrayed the story was excellent, You have detail but left a lot to our imagination. This book at times had me crying, moments laughing , heartbreaking yet Magical. Max & Remi grew emotionally through the book & felt special to take that journey with them. Well written with the correct boundaries of fact & fiction. So excited for Ghost & Mia's Story.

Ok - my review here is going to be split up into two parts, and is likely to be replicated over the few books I’ve read in this series so far. (So not my usual style).

Firstly, the story concept is great. Rebecca has really invested in trying to build a complex and dark MC world with lots of shocking and nail-biting content. That I applaud. It’s a little like GOT in the sense that you shouldn’t get attached to any one character- else you’ll be in for disappointment. But you do get attached. There’s so much promise in these pages.

However, secondly - the elephant in the room is the absence of any clear or thorough editing. This really does adversely affect the story. And in its current state - this can’t be overlooked in my rating or review.

I will be willing to reread, and revisit and re-rate my review once the editing issues have been addressed, because this story could be great, however at the moment it’s sub-par.

Reaper & Remi

This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and while I enjoyed it there were a few things that just didn’t sit well with me. One of the most important was that I didn’t feel the love connection between Reaper and Remi, another was that I didn’t feel that Reaper deserved to be president of the club, he was too all over the place and never really seemed in charge or in control.

Juvenile

This book, I only got to about 30% before I just couldn't take anymore. The male main character is an abusive, sick jerk. The female character comes off as an innocent child or slightly disabled. She suffers years of abuse and in all the horrible ways, yet she acts like a child. The book needs massive editing and a rethink of the actual characters.

This one had a good storyline, definitely fascinating. It has a lot of potential to keep building thru future members stories. It was the couple that ruined this for me. Individually they were interesting and solid. It was the together that was just ridiculous. It was rushed and the smexy times were just laughable they were so poorly written. Def ruined the book for me. Kind of sad.

Holy mother of god. This book. No words can describe the horror of what humanity can do to the innocent victims of trafficking. Max and remi find love against all odds. Danger. Intrigue. This novel has it all.

I swear to god I’ve either read this before or there’s a book exactly like this.
Either way wasn’t that good, I get it that it deals with heavy / uncomfortable topics but some stuff that the author wrote was just icky.

Reaper by Rebecca Joyce is book one in the Golden Sons MC series and boy is it action packed. The story starts with Reaper and Remi as youngsters, both being kidnapped and having unimaginable things done to them, they are lucky to survive. Being saved by Reaper’s MC family he knows that things will never be the same again and makes a promise to the little girl Remy that he will always be there for her. Fast forward a number of years and Remi is trying to find her saviour after again going through the unimaginable.

Thrown together through lies, hardships and love, we go on a journey with Remi and Reaper as they do what they need to do to survive. Reading about Remi’s journey is heartbreaking and horrific at times, as is the mental anguish that Reaper seems to go through on a daily basis. If you are triggered easily, this is definitely not a series for you as it does deal with a horrific subject matter and what happens to those that survive, it will certainly take you down the rabbit hole!

Remi and Reaper’s love is immediate and true, they are intense together (which can be seem through their sexy times), but there is also a great sense of family in this series as well as people doing whatever they have to do, to get justice and bring the bad guy down.

That being said, there is a lot going on in this book, with lots of characters, twist and turns and things that you just don’t expect. It has been a while since I’ve read an MC series which has had me hooked form beginning to end and just makes me want to binge read the rest of the series. There are some grammatical errors throughout the book, but if you can overlook those them you’re going to really enjoy this series.

Reaper & Remi. Triggers: sex trafficking, child molestation, sexual assault, kidnapping. Whew, this book was something else but there's still something missing. It starts with Reaper and Remi as kids trying to be quiet. Reaper tells Remi if she's ever in trouble to find the Golden Skulls and they will help and tells her not to worry his family is coming to get them. When they are saved it's evident that something happened to both the kids but here's where I had a problem with the book. While we eventually learn what specifically happened to Remi and she gets help, we never learn about what Reaper went through or how he was kidnapped in the first place. What I liked about the book is that it's filled with drama, mystery and betrayal. This author loves the plot twists and she will have you twisted all through the story. Remi did not have a good life and she finds herself running from a bad man, heading straight for Reaper and the Golden Skulls. The question is… is she safe with them? We shall see. So good. I loved it.

I just wished we could have learned more about Reaper's kidnapping.

This was the second time I've try to read this book. I dnf the first time as Remi turned out to be tstl and gave herself up to the bad guys.

This time I got past that part but stopped shortly after as it became apparent Max totally lost it as well as any respect I might have had for him which was about none as how can I respect a man who masturbates to the thought of a broken, abused and raped woman who was in the next room just because his d### was hard??
I also could not suspend my disbelief enough to buy that a girl who's been so abused sexually would just readily spread her legs for the first man that comes around especially one who calls her his whore. What about trying to heal physically, emotionally and mentally before jumping into a sexual relationship with a man you've only known for two weeks. Then she says she loves him. Where did that come from?? Boggles my mind.

Anyways, she's gone, he's checked out, drinking himself into oblivion and I got so bored I just couldn't continue.

A Highly Emotional Read

This book deals with very very dark subject matter including: human trafficking (of all ages and sexes), rape, torture and murder as well as institutionalisation corruption. If any of that might be a trigger for you then give yourself some grace.

The two main characters are Reaper (Max) and Remi, from the outset it’s straight into the harsh reality of the concept of human trafficking. Both characters are survivors of abuse and both handle it very differently. I didn’t realise just how grim this storyline is until I began reading. It’s well written and the characters are engaging and believable. It’s well worth reading but the overarching plot is full on grim.

I came to this series after having read the Sons of Hell MC series first. There are some cameo roles with characters from this series, overall the SoH MC is much more lighthearted than the Golden Skulls.

This was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.

Huge trigger warning.

Remi and Reaper had to endure so so much at a very young age at the hands of a man that could be the devil himself (like Remi called him) when they were kidnapped. Together they formed a bond at such a young age.

Years past and Remi was kidnapped by the same devil again but managed to escape and that's where her and Reaper's story began and definitely not the end of seeing the devil. He is going to turn up again, but brace yourself and believe me this time it's bad.

The betrayal combined with the twists and turns in this book made it so much more interesting.

It's definitely not the end of all the heartaches and problems for the Golden Skulls MC. This book end on a slight cliffhanger but will continue in Ghost's book.

AMAZING READ

Potential

Please, please, please listen very carefully to the trigger warnings. This book deals with the difficult topic of human trafficking and abuse. And does so graphically.
This review is hard for me to write. I don’t like to leave less than positive reviews and mostly, I just won’t comment at all.
But, I think this author has tremendous potential. The overall storyline is very good. The characters are interesting. The idea and the direction of the story have great potential.
This book needs a very good editor. For many reasons. The graphic descriptions of abuse can be handled differently and get the same point across. The timeline, descriptions, details, grammar, sentence structure and plot line need help.
I will give the next book a try in hopes that there is improvement.

Wow so darned good

I cant tell you how much i really enjoyed reading this story. It certainly was an emotional book with, dark, deceit, kidnapping with twists and turns the Mc didnt know was coming.
Max and Remi first met when they were in cages together, kidnapped they bonded and were rescued by Maxs dad and his MC, and when they were both in hospital Max pinky promised that the bad men wouldnt come for her again. But they had and somehow years later she escaped and found her way to Golden Skulls looking for Max who was now the President.
She became his everything and his all, and this is their story, its not a great story for them but the emotional feelings have you turning page after page with wanting to see what happens next.

This is definately a story you dont want to miss out on

Title: Reaper (Golden Skulls MC: Book 1)
Author: Rebecca Joyce

Review: This book had me on an emotional rollercoaster to say the least! From the start right through to the end it was action packed with lots of heart wrenching moments, I just can't believe this actually happens in todays world. All the characters were easy to connect with and great POV's. There were more than a few 'what the actual fu$k' moments in this book and my heart hurt for Remi and what she endured throughout her life. The author really captured her perspective and although the torment Remi had received, she still managed to stay somewhat positive and still hope for the good in people. Naive maybe?
Jumping straight into the next book "GHOST'.

Stars: 4/5 ★
Spice: 3/5 🌶️
Recommend: Yes
Notes: Please read the trigger warnings before starting this series, very confrontational.

A tough one

Ooh! This author has definitely written a very rough story, with characters who endure horrific trauma. There were a couple story stumbles for me, which is why I am going with 3.5 stars.

It is unbelievably addictive, and even when I wanted to stop reading, it was hard. I kept waiting for Remi to get some escape from her situation! Reaper has demons of his own. (The worst part for me was the understanding that any and all contained in the pages were based in some factual information.)

If you are a sensitive reader, please pass on this one. It was a good read of terrible experiences, that I will certainly remember for some time. This ends with a small HEA for these two characters, but not everyone, so - I am on to Ghost.
