Daisy Chains

Rate this book
There’s a dress in Daisy’s closet. Silver. Low-backed. Tiny spaghetti straps. She’ll wear it to prom on the arm of Harris Zandari, the most gorgeous senior at her school.

How did quiet, barely-there Daisy, land Harris Zandari? She watched him. She watched him so closely, and for so long, that she saw things no one else did. She saw through his charm, his bright, smiling face, to the sad, broken person underneath just waiting for the perfect sad, broken girl to complete him.

Daisy was that girl. Not only because her mother died and everyone still felt sorry for her. But because she made herself perfect for him. She fashioned herself into his broken dream girl, and now, they were going to prom. And Daisy was going to make it a night she would never forget.

No one but Daisy knows this, but there’s another dress in her closet, buried in the back. Tea-length. Little cap sleeves.

Funeral black.

Inspired by Michelle Carter, this quick short story is from the inside of a sociopaths mind. 😵‍💫 Terribleness to its core. ☠️

Narration was great 👍🏼 👌.

Another fun brain 🧠 candy 🍬 one.
It was....something being inside her head and her thought process when everything was said and done.
The ending reminded me of a movie I saw years ago that my favorite singer was in.. won't say what so I won't spoil the ending.

This is a good one to distract ya from life stuff for a bit.

this was a little unsettling. it is obviously inspired and based on the true story of Michelle Carter and Conrad Roy’s death.

Daisy was such an unlikable main character, but I guess that’s the point, since she’s supposed to be a sociopath.

it’s a quick little thriller, only 1 hour and 23 minutes.

I chose this out of the Audible Originals catalogue because I needed something really short as a stopgap and also because I really like sound effects in my audiobooks!

It was well worth my time and I found it very entertaining. Daisy is a formidable main character and unravelling her motivations (or really, her lack of) was thrilling.

I love the likes of Jane Doe and, obviously, Villanelle. Daisy is the same ilk but somehow with more savagery.

Of many possible endings we got one that I hadn't expected and the final words of the book left me wondering what on earth she will do next.

This was another one added because it was fiction under 3 hours. The title is apt. I was debating between 2 or 4 stars for this one. I couldn't stand Daisy, but at the same time that was the point-I hope. I don't think I've ever had such a strong reaction to a book that wasn't joy or wanting to read the next one. Could I read or listen to this one again? Hell no. This was haunting and not in a good way. It left me with a dry throat and hollow sick feeling in my gut.

If you take a mix of Emma Roberts' characters from Scream and Scream Queens, you have an idea of what the main character Daisy is like. To be popular, she manipulates her boyfriend into suicide. Its a train wreck and I was hoping Mia would've realized what was going on. Or Harris realizing what was happening after she turned mean. It wasn't to be. It ended the way it was supposed to.

Not for Daisy though. I'm glad she was back to being invisible, but the father-ugh-was right, five years wasn't enough. Daisy wasn't clever, she was fake and desperate. It was painful how she pulled the wool over everyone's eyes. It was also scary just how far someone could go to get attention. Certainly not one I'd forget in a hurry. Contains suicide, manipulating someone to suicide and aiding suicide, along with drug abuse and domestic abuse.

This was good! Most of the people giving it a negative review seem to be people who do not prefer dark themes like the one presented in this really short read. To me, that's unfair. How can you give a bad review on a book you wouldn't like going in?

I liked it. Daisy's lil ass was crazy as hell. Her entire motive was to not be invisible. She clearly had some issues that began before her mother's accidental death. The fact that she could watch her mom drown is a clear indicator. And her father is a damn psychiatrist and missed all the signs. He didn't even notice that she was using his script pad to give Harris Adderall. Don't those kinds of prescriptions get monitored or something? Either way, I hate that he allowed her to convince him that he would be better off dead. I think she really believed that's what he wanted and needed him to go through with it to fulfill this fantasy of getting all the attention for being the girlfriend of the guy who killed himself. But she was a damn psycho either way.

The story was well written, it was believable being in Daisy's brain, and I liked that it ended with her locked up and still desperate for the spotlight. She deserved that.

UPDATE: This story almost identically mirrors the story in the documentary I Love You Now Die. I’m disappointed.

I would’ve liked to know more about Daisy, but it’s a good disturbing short story that reminds me so much of the Michelle Carter case.

Daisy Green is excited to wear two dresses; a pink dress for prom and a black one for her boyfriend's funeral.
Her boyfriend isn't dead yet but she hopes it'll happen soon.

This was an interesting listen.
It kinda felt it was inspired by the Michelle Carter situation(the girl who convinced her boyfriend to kill himself through texts) but it was taken to the extreme.
Daisy was a fascinating teenager to follow and I liked how things progress.
It was hard for meto get into this story at first because I was kinda turned off by Daisy's introduction.
She views herself as "not like other girls" which annoyed me but as it went on I realized how self-centered she was.

It's a really good listen though.
I liked how it showed Daisy's conflicting feelings about pushing her boyfriend to suicide but ultimately her

Very weird, she is a psycho! But unfortunately there are many who do think (somewhat) like her. Glad she got caught!

Audible: I would have been more impressed if this was an original story. It is clearly based loosely on Michelle Carter, and the movie “I Love You, Now Die.” Still. It was a good dark, little story and interesting to listen to while I did some chores around the house. Definitely would have been better if the characters and motives were fleshed out a little more, but it’s a short story. Can’t have everything lol. #booksin22

The mind of a sociopath, dark and very gen z !!! I would've liked it to be more developed in terms of the characters and especially the plot, I feel that it ended in a flat way when there were many more good possibilities for the ending, but besides that it was okay

Horrible book about a girl persuading her boyfriend to suicide so she gets noticed. What's even sadder is that I know there has been a similar case in the news. Not a fun book at all.

I usually like psychos (reading about them or watching shows), but I didn't like Daisy. She hurt the guy who loved and trusted her, and he never did anything wrong. The psychos I like usually kill someone who did something wrong or someone random, but here this guy really loved her and she convinced him to kill himself. I didn't like it.

This of course touches on a very dark subject so it’s not for everyone.

I found Daisy’s character very interesting. She is clearly a sociopath and attention hungry.
There are obviously some deep rooted issues.
I feel that her character was portrayed well, clear she thinks differently to the ‘norm’ she’s very egocentric and desperate to be seen.
I liked that she wasn’t portrayed as just completely evil, she did question her decisions at time and showed glimpses of real emotion.

The other characters were very blah. Her father in particular was ‘too’ neglectful. For someone who’s a psychiatrist not to have any real interactions with your child or to spot any of the troubling signs seems a bit unbelievable. However this a short story based on the span of a day mostly so there’s not a lot of room to give us a deeper picture.

Overall it was a very easy and Interesting listen.

Ummm what did I just listen to?

Daisy didn’t want to be invisible anymore and gained more problems after her mother’s death, watching her drown in water.

This was an interesting story. She’s been trying to kill her boyfriend by making him commit suicide. I think she’s a psycho, but I liked reading from her point of view.

I felt like I was side by side with daisy and I felt like I was in her brain with her.

This short story was well written and I’ll get a couple of my friends to read this!

Also this kind of scares me that this is based off a real story.. 😳

The Audible summary starts with “A chilling thriller that puts listeners inside the mind of a teen sociopath on her prom night.” And that’s exactly what it was. I chose this because it was only 1.5 hours long (and included with my subscription!) and I needed something for my run. It absolutely kept my attention and I can only imagine the faces I was making with each new detail or event. It was a fun, quick listen. If you enjoy thrillers, I’d recommend it.

I will say this was extremely well written. The language, the descriptions. The narrator also nailed it.

But the plot. The story itself. Is so f*cling sad that I hate myself for listening. This sort of entertainment just isn’t for me I don’t think. I like to escape into something that makes me happy, not be swallowed up by the same ugliness that plagues reality. This one was too close to home, too real for me.

A mini-read/Audible Audio short story about a young teen who is thinking about killing her boyfriend. Why? Because that would make her really, really popular -- being the stricken, mourning girlfriend. I mean, it is twisted. But in such an oh-so-good kind of way from a literary standpoint.

triggers: suicide, obviously.

The only thing I didn't love about this book was how short it was.
I loved how we were able to see into Daisy's brain. Her thought process, her emotions, everything.
Would absolutely recommend reading it!!

This story is pretty messed up. I remember hearing about the real story and I just couldn't wrap my head around the idea of someone being that evil. This was dark...but very well done.
