Tribes #1

Marked by the Predator

Rate this book
This alien female crash-landed then marked my territory. I have a lot to say about that. Namely, welcome to the tribe, human.

My exciting vacation gets a little too exciting when my ship blows up, and my escape pod lands on an alien planet filled with a predator species. They’re barely civilized, not a translator chip in sight, and there’s no mistaking the way they drool when they stalk me.

I gravitate toward the one that seems to want to keep me safe. Impossibly huge, black hair, pale eyes.

But tribal law decrees I’m the prize in a series of deadly games. To claim me, he must win. If he loses, I’m toast.

*** From the author of the Horde and the Beasts, comes a new exciting series with an authentic Alpha alien male voice, humor, and heart.
They're primal.
They're Vikings in space.
They can shift and will hook you for life.

This book needed details. Any details would have helped. Any at all! This book wasn't even as deep as a puddle, more like a few drops of water on a table. I got bored. I had no clue what was going on half the time other than they had no females and wanted to breed. There was no world building, no Character development. Everything was superficial. Because there was so much made up stuff in this book (because it's an alien world) with no explanation of what the made up shit meant it read like gibberish and lost my interest. I didn't care for this book at all and I won't be reading the next one.

Not your typical Romance read at all....and I LOVED IT! Super storyline! Excellent secondary characters! Tons of action! About a 2 on the steamy scale but man everything else makes up for that low rating!

Stephanie lands on a "predator" land instead of the fun planet vacation she signed up for. On arrival she quickly finds herself facing a pack of dual-form predators. Stephanie can tell quickly their interest is purely for fulfillment...as in filling their stomachs. I know right!! Shocker!! As she is chased she finds herself in a tower and as the doors close she realizes it is a trap. On the throne sits the king the ultimate predator, Hart, who quickly snatches her up and retreats to his quarters. Now this is where things get the absolute best. Stephanie is not sure if she is wanted for food or for pleasure and without a translator in the beginning this girl makes every mistake I would have made. For instance, Hart is trying to discover what she is, a gross herbivore or is she at the least an acceptable omnivore. So he takes her for a walk and sister can not hold her "waste" any longer. Thus "marking" his territory and that leads to some hilarious thoughts and conversations down the road.

Hart is not dominate...nope he is full on predator. Like top of all food chains predator. He does not know whether to eat or mate Stephanie which drives him absolutely insane. The more time they spend together he realizes she is the answer they have been waiting for. Finally a female meant to breed. Yep they have no females (granted that is normal in alien romance but works for me). Here's the catch he has to allow ALL of his males the opportunity to compete for her. Leading to great action and drama and one of my now all time favorite scenes.....

"When I brought back a piece of Sor’s flesh on the bone, never in million moons did it cross my mind that my gentle flower-loving alien would eat it. Never. I am shocked to my very core and unsure how to approach her dietary requirements. Which was why I asked my males to leave us alone. In addition, I need some time to think and come up with something for tomorrow’s games. Are they still going to compete? I don’t know. Who wants a male-eater in their bed? Only me, hopefully."

She sure did....one of the challenges was to bring Stephanie a meal to show they can provide for her. Hart had been attacked in order to prevent him for completing his task. So, his hope was by providing Stephanie with the flesh of the male that attempted to stop him would be enough to win her favor. Yeah she thought it was an animal not one of his males and she ate some of him. Leaving all of the mighty warriors covering their mouths, eyes filled with terror, and the few who hurled. LMAO!!

Did not see this coming and I am in love with this series because I have a sick twisted sense of humor. Sign me up for more Jacks!! Call me would should be BFFs!!

Happy reading,
DD 💕

I'm really excited about this new series and these new alpha predators. I'm still not exactly sure what they fully look like in their hunter form, but they are ferocious violent beasts for sure.

I loved the dialogue and interplay between Hart and Stephanie. There was a language barrier but then things just got lost in translation, which led to some funny cute moments. There was a lot of insta-love and definitely some alien anatomy to boot.

I liked this, it was quirky, short, and sweet. I can't wait to read the next one, Nar's story, and to see where the story line is taking us.

I enjoyed this a lot it was a fun engaging easy alien Sci-fi read with some unique aspects. Stephanie is heading to her vacation on another planet when the ship catches fire and emergency protocol takes over. Her escape pod then steers her to land on an unknown planet one filled with huge Viking like predators with strange eyes and stranger movements.

Hart is the apex predator of his tribe the Alpha and the top of the food chain. The small female alien he now has in his possession smells like food but also something else that is equally Intriguing to his heightened senses. Now he doesn’t know whether to consume or breed her and are they even compatible. Well, now he’s determined to find out.

Harts planet has been decimated by tribal wars and as a result of this conflict there are now no suitable females a travesty in a society that worships the goddess: so when Stephanie falls into his clutches an ancient tradition is revived. Three days of games to determine who gets breeding rights to the female alien and Hart is determined to win and mark her for his own.

I loved how animalistic these males are it’s very much food or breed with them when their instincts are engaged and they are also an extremely territorial race. They also have a Hunter form which they can change to at-will despite their almost barbarian nature and ways their technology is also advanced.

There is an initial language barrier until a translator is fitted and I loved all the cultural misunderstandings we got because of all the differences. Hart is very blunt in his wants and also his language which only made me like him more and Stephanie can’t help but want him right back.

This is quite low in angst there’s not much conflict between the two main characters and the world-building did feel a tad sparse at times. It also was quite short in length but it was still a great read that easily drew me in and there was enough going on here to keep my interest and I especially really liked the banter between Hart and Stephanie.

There were some breadcrumbs left for future stories set in this world and I’m definitely going to be picking up the next book in the series this has certainly piqued my interest and I found this to be imaginative and the story was well written and easy to follow. I definitely recommend if you like sci-fi alien romance with a difference. Overall I found this to be a sweet but sexy read.

This took me about 2h to read. I kid you not, I could not put it down! :D

In well known Milana Jacks ways - our alien alpha is fantastic! Milana has a way of writing her males that really really gets to me, and it's also very funny. Because the pattern I see here is that they are all very literal, straight forward, and no know bounds. It's fantastic! And it makes for very fun interactions! :D

I really loved where this story is going, and I can't wait for the next book! I would have loved some epilogue though and I wish we got more in the end really, I'm a sucker for the babes! I want babies! haha.

Stephenie is human and comes from the earth. She crash lands on a new planet, which is inhabited by "Viking looking warriors" who also have portal tech and are not quite what you expect them to be.
Carnivorous Hunters, a mere human would usually be what they would hunt and eat, but not this girl! hah.
Hart is the Alpha Male and "King" of his Tribe. You see the KA and their world have a Tribe system. Sadly war has ravaged the land, and the KA no longer have any females or young. :'(

It's a good thing one crash lands then, isn't it? ;)

I found the book humourous, sexy and I really love the world building. I think this is a great first look at this world and I think I'll enjoy them more as the series progresses. :D

5* from me!!

4 alien smut stars!

This is the first book in the Tribes series and features Hart and Stephanie. Stephanie crash lands on a territory where male predators live and ends up in the hands of Hart. According to their customs, the males fight in games to win the right to a female. Hart is the leader of his tribe and wants Stephanie for his own however. Because this was short, I do think there was a missed opportunity for relationship development and extra steam.

I enjoyed reading this and am rating it purely on a smut scale. I think that the series has a lot of potential. However, the description of Hart....I could not picture him AT ALL. I was really confused.

description

The story itself lacked some development and world building and the ending was really abrupt. I found myself with more questions than answers. Perhaps this was just a prequel (it was pretty short) and the next book in the series will answer the many questions I have. Questions about the world, the predators, and Hart and Stephanie. I am interested to read where this world goes!

Overall, a nice read with lots of potential.

Stephanie is a futuristic space aged heroine trying to enjoy a vacation to the planet Joylius. Her ship catches fire and she is evacuated based on automatic ship protocols. Her individual space pod’s autopilot makes an emergency landing to an unknown planet with alien men of a unkown warrior class. These humanoid men are extremely primal and are also part jungle cats. They can walk on all fours, stretch their skin voluntarily, and have large canines. These men have been awaiting the presence of a female to help repopulate their dwindling all male tribes. Every year they pray to their Goddess of fertility, Bera, for females and are disappointed. This year a female seemingly falls from the sky and their corresponding tribal games must be honored in order to decide which male can claim her.

What are these games you ask? Well, the games consist of four hundred males over three days and two nights fighting to win the right to mate and breed Stephanie to continue the lineage of their species. There is no rule that contestants can’t fight to the death, so they ambush and attack each other to remove the strongest competitors. The strongest of all competitors is clearly the main character, Hart, so he is seemingly at the center of all other male attacks. One male in particular Ark, the Ra tribal leader of another clan in the West, is the biggest problem. Both leaders currently have a mutual respected period of peace to stop the unnecessary bloodshed and pillaging of both tribes. Competing against each other in the games is dangerous as it could very well restart the war between the two tribes again.

The male narrative of this book is very strong with the main character Hart. He is the tribal leader and all alpha male from the start of the book. There were times when I felt that the alphaness was very over the top and did not always make sense. For example, why does Hart get to keep Stephanie in his room before the games even begin? If none of these men have seen a female in a very long time, you would think they would have never let her stay with anyone alone, leader or not. Also, Hart is so alpha I never felt while reading this story that he would lose Stephanie.

I though Stephanie’s narrative was weaker because she did not seem to have a lot of understanding about her situation. She was back seated to the love interest and had to quickly cope with not having a way to return home, being attracted to a half-man-cat, and being the prize in a primitive ritual known as the games. Also, I know these book are quick erotic thrills but I always find the lack of worrying over leaving everything about the heroines life behind very odd. Stephanie’s like ehh…he’s so sexy who cares that I have to live here? She barely puts up any fight or acts like his magical ding dong isn’t the solution to all her problems. Her excuse is that back home many people just work to qualify for positions on the newly colonized Mars planet. It's unsettling that leaving her job, her only friend, and her mother (that doesn’t communicate with her on a regular basis) are not important. Honestly, Stephanie is more worried about how she will get coffee, chicken, and mashed potatoes more than anything else.

This book did not always hold my attention. For me, there was not a lot of suspense in this book, even with the games, as the focal point of the story. As Hart is painted as the biggest and baddest male, so the book just prolongs their eventual coupling. I think the book would have been better if it had been written in only Hart’s perspective. In my opinion, Stephanie did not add anything to the story. I got annoyed whenever her point of view was provided, as I wanted to learn more about this planet and the strange cultures of the tribes. It’s obvious that this story will be part of an ongoing series but I don’t know how the author will make each book significantly different enough to warrant reading them all. Reading about the games over and over again each time a eligible woman is introduced would be boring. Overall, I can see that if you enjoy a primitive setting and a man that feels he has no equal, you will somewhat enjoy this book.

What have I just read??

The heroine fall in love with the alien guy who literally wanted and planned to eat her, and everyone else wanted to eat her, too, and they even were like: 'Ugh, don't f**k the food, bro!'. I mean, I like alien *cough* smut *cough* romance books, but even I draw the line somewhere.

An extra star for the humor, though.

This was a short, fun read. It kept me in stitches.

The FMC is your average human living in a world where human - alien relationships have advanced to a point where governments cooperate and humans travel to and live on other planets. While relationships are warm with many alien nations, some are not and those planets are to be avoided. The FMC unexpectedly finds herself on one of the no-go planets. She takes it all in, adapts, and handles it well. She even resorts to some trickery. I like her.

The MMC is the Alpha of one of the tribes on this planet. I love what the author did with the definition of Alpha. It’s more about eating than sex, i.e. the biggest, baddest guy eats first, gets the largest portion, etc. Hilarity ensues as the Alpha tries to sort out his warring primal instincts; he wants to eat the FMC, but he also wants to have sex with her. He’s so confused. A series of tests follow and he’s further baffled by the FMC’s mere humanness (Why are there two holes down there? Why is the clothing so counter-productive? Why is water coming out of your eyes and you’re having difficulty breathing?, etc). He’s imperious and straight-forward, but not in the alpha-hole way. I love this kind of MMC; he walks the fine line between being candid and to the point vs an obnoxious, know-it-all who doesn’t listen to anyone else’s input.

The author’s writing is a little clunky, but the humor sprinkled throughout the story more than makes up for it. Her take on an Alpha is funny and unique. I’ll definitely read the rest of the series.

This book was dumb. Honestly, no character building and just an absolutely ridiculous story. The steamy scenes were pretty awful and just came out of nowhere and had no build-up or anything. Also, the whole "should I eat her or f*** her" thing is pretty gross and weird. Overall, the book was not funny nor engaging and pretty predictable. This was the first book I have read by this author and definitely the last. I understand why all her other books have low ratings if this is how she writes stories. Would not recommend it.

The goddess of ScFi PNR Shapeshifter/Alien/Beasts wrote a book over a feisty goddess from Earth lost on her way through space to find her perfect predator male for entertainment and life.
Do I have to say that this romance was pur entertainment with so much fun, funny moments, wordplay and witty dialogues.
I love her skills that bring so much happy time to me. A awesome start in this new series and with high hopes for more to come our way. Let’s use a portal into book #2 “Stolen”

I’ll consume her too quickly and forget I promised Sor a leg. And a buttock. There’s no way he’s getting a buttock, though. Those are nice big juicy buttocks.

It’s a bit sadistic when you’re eating something that still smells like hope.

He frowns. “Did I miss something?”

I knock on his head. “Think outside the skull.”

Milana Jacks is back, with another alien, Alpha series!

So, Stephanie is going for a vacation on an alien resort, but ends up crash landing on a strange alien planet. This is where she meets up with Hart, then hijinks and love ensue.

This was a fun read. It had just the right amount of sarcasm and funny situations to make it right and not groan worthy.

I loved the fact that Stephanie didn't really need to struggle for long with getting lost in translation. That is usually a bit in alien romances that pisses me off, this was taken care of quickly.

As per Nar's preview at the end, I like the fact that for each book, each woman is a representation of a Goddess to the aliens and now they have to sort out themselves in winning their affections while at the same time getting through the tribal subterfuge that is afoot.

The similarities to MJ's Alpha series are apparent but different enough that it's not a copy paste of the previous series.

Enjoyed book one, looking forward to book 2 and more from the series.

Hmm…
Interesting. Different. In my opinion. Not particularly sexy. But an interesting twist on “mars needs women”.
I will warn you that the man described in the book does not look anything like the guy on the cover.
“His beard rubs my skin…”
“eyes are covered with a white membrane as if … blind.”
“ Abundant long black hair is secured away from his face, clearly showing tribal-like tattoos over his jawbone and up his face, stopping at his cheeks. Pupilless white eyes stare back at me.”

Also, small point of order. This is a planet of meat eaters. Meat only. They are quite clear on this. So… explain this quote…
“Bugs buzz around me, and I snatch one, put it in my mouth, and chew. Mmmm. I snatch another, eat it. I wonder if Stephanie would like them. They’re like crackers, easier to consume with blunt teeth than most other prey.”

Crackers!? How would they possibly know what a “cracker” is!?

Ok! Fine! None of this helps u know if I liked the book or what it is about. I am going to give book 2 a try, if that helps.

Innocence in losing it: 2/5
Build up to losing it: 3/5

Stephanie’s space ship goes downs and she crash lands on an alien planet ruled by waring alien-viking-animal men. The wars have caused there to be no females on the planet, thus when the tribe leader/alpha male Hart demons her ‘breedable’ there is a competition held to earn the right to be with her. This is a fun story, definately not reinventing the wheel by any means but it is enjoyable! I read it all in one sitting and I may pick up the next book in the series when I need something like to read! The spice is decent but I had just wanted a little bit more of it. No knots, but they do have hooks! No cheating, no sharing, and an HEA!

A brand new world

And just like that, this author has started me out on a fantastic, brand new adventure. This book has everything that I have come to love about the author’s writing, bold, alpha males, and strong female characters on a planet with a shortage of women. I love how she built this entire society, with new characters and new situations that kept me glued to my ereader. I hope she plans at least three more books because there are a few of those aliens that I can’t wait to see find their HEA, and the adventure she takes them on is sure to be amazing!

Kinda creepy about eating something one can speak to. And the whole “eating something with hope” gives it extra flavor was just sadistic. Didn’t care at all for that. It was gross.

Hero’s past isn’t mentioned. Not too many women so I’m assuming not a manwhore. Heroines past was ambiguous but it didn’t come off as if she was solely the hero’s. There was no sense in him claiming her exclusively for himself, and that was also kinda gross so I dropped stars for that alone. Other warriors compete for the heroine but she doesn’t show any interest in others. No cheating or abuse.

Quite different

Stephanie is from Earth and on her way to vacation on another planet when something happens to the shop she is on and individual escape pods release. She ends up on a planet that she knows nothing about, with strange alien men and is unable to communicate with them.
Hart is the leader of his tribe of predators. They have fought wars among the different tribes and now have no young and no fertile females. They believe the strange creature that has landed on their is prey. Hart though is beginning to think differently.
He decides that she may be a breeding female and so now the males will compete in a game to try to win her.
This book seems quite different to me. It will be interesting to figure out what is going to happen next whether Stephanie can even get pregnant and if so, where more females may come from.

One of the funniest books that I have read in a long time! Highly Enjoyable! Absolutely worth reading!

I really loved this book! It is a solid 4.5 stars. The only one reason why I didn't give this 5/5 stars is the story had a few plot twists that just didn't make a lot of sense, but it didn’t affect my overall enjoyment of the story.

So here’s my synopsis: Vacationing human girl is heading for an off planet vacation resort, her space craft blows up and her escape pod crash lands on a remote alien planet with technologically advanced shapeshifting male predators that need women otherwise they are going to go extinct. The truly funny part? The alpha predator can’t decide if he wants to eat the girl, or 'Eat' the girl if you get my drift.

Alien romance should be about different species, well, discovering their differences; and this story did that. The ML and his people had been isolated for so long, that he wasn't familiar with women in general. In fact, one of the funniest aspects of the book (that I loved and cracked up over) was the fact that these aliens were all considering the human female to be food. They were prepared to hunt and eat her. After a day or so they started to figure out that they wanted to 'eat her' in other ways. One of the funniest scenarios in the book was that the aliens when they wanted to eat her were having discussions over her body parts, then after they decided they wanted to mate with her and were doing all sorts of things to win her over, she (because they had been unintentionally starving her) then unknowingly ate an alien thinking it was some sort of meat for a barbeque. I roared with laughter, because as she was chomping down on the alien meat of one of their buddies, telling them how delicious it was, the other male aliens were grossed out and in total fear of her! That was hilarious!!! I laughed through so much of this book, I mean laughed until I cried and my husband asked WTH are you laughing about. This is one of the funniest books that I have read in a long time. I truly enjoyed it! I had such a good time reading this book that I will definitely be continuing the series.

I recommend this to anyone who enjoys alien romance or romance or science fiction in general. This story has an HEA and even though it is the first book in a series, it can be read as a stand-alone novel.

I liked this one and I don’t really know why. It’s short and easy to read (and there’s absolutely zero angst). Like the Savage Horde Mates series of the same author, it has an overarching plot that will continue throughout the series but it doesn’t end in a cliffhanger for the main couple. Interesting but somewhat underwhelming smut. I’m expecting more in the next books.

I do have a bone to pick with the book ! So these aliens are carnivorous predators. Heroine falls from the sky and they intend to eat her for a while even though they are aware she can speak. Which sounds eerily like cannibalism. But then, unknowingly, the heroine eats one of them and they’re all flabbergasted. How’s that for double standards ? Anyway, here’s a funny out of context quote :

“He’s slashing the dress with claws and tearing into it with teeth, fabric flying everywhere. Once done, he remains sitting, glaring at Ark as if nothing happened. I pick off a piece stuck in his hair. He snatches it from my hand and eats it. Okay, then.”

An enjoyable sci-fi romance.

This short romance was fun. The animalistic behavior of the predator alien hero was used to great comic affect. I liked this book because it was funny, and a great break from the author’s more serious writing. The characterization was competent, with both hero and heroine being sympathetic individuals, if not especially nuanced. The development of the romantic relationship was hot and fast, with a heat level of three chili peppers. The world building was competent, with the instincts and culture of the very alien hero coming to life. I enjoyed this novel, and look forward to reading the next book in this series when it releases.

Um. I don't know what happened here...

So. I've read quite a few of Milana's books in the past and they were good. But this was an editorial nightmare. Dialogue tags and punctuation were so bad I only barely was able to get through chapter two. And let's not even get into sentence fragments. I don't mind sentence fragments but sweet jesus, they were everywhere! I suggest she get a new editor or take the time to simply review her work.

I recognize that maybe she had a deadline of something, and is so, that's a damn shame that it ruined a pretty good story.

2.75 stars! I liked the concept (Alien struggling with whether human is food or his mate hahaha), I just think neither character were very memorable and at times it was hard to picture what was happening. For example, the transition between scenes would change abruptly and the descriptions weren’t fully fleshed out, so I was lost while reading and couldn't picture what was going on. Adding more dialogue tags could have made this a smoother read, too.

I am curious in the other side characters’ stories (Ark!) so I’ll read on and see if I like the others more.

***It feels rushed***

I'm giving this a 3.5 star but no such thing so 4 star it is only because I had a few laughs out loud moments. Not enough character development and no back story or anything and well the mfc is oh docile and for her to be starving and no one realises she needs to eat is pretty far fetch.

I would normally give a book more time, but this is pretty short, and nothing is really going on... and I have a stack of freebies to get through.

In a nutshell, Stephanie crash lands on a planet with a bunch of dudes who plan on eating her, but then Hart gets turned off and decides to keep her around for a bit. 😕

A simple romance book with heavy fantasy and sci-fi elements. The plot is pretty straightforward and fast paced in my opinion. Bits of the characterization and dialogue were a little cringy but I started reading this book expecting nothing more and nothing less. Sometimes you just crave the stuff lol

I’d recommend this book for anyone with a free afternoon/weekend/whatever (depending on how fast of a reader you are) and nothing else to do. I’m actually gonna give the sequel a chance too!

I am on the fence with this one. I love the hunters and games. I think it was more the female that annoyed me. I did not really start liking her until the end when she spoke to Sha-male. Most of the book center around Hart (the male) and Stephanie did not really have much personality for most of the book. I guess I am just looking for something where the female is a little more involved with the decisions being made. Granted she was dealing with hunger and thirst the entire time because Hart did not realize she was having issues, but I feel she could have asked about it at some point given that she had a translator on.

Awesome quick read

I loved the world building and POV's. I loved the storytelling. Enjoyable read. However, I felt the ending was abrupt... And the proclamation of love disgenuine and came out if nowhere.... and very abrupt.
