I've never read a book like this before. It's self-help for women in tech to advance their careers. I really enjoyed it and am motivated to make some changes and invest in myself.

I loved this book because it contained actionable steps one can take in one's career to get ahead. You often hear about finding mentors or champions, but the author was her own champion. Although at times plagued with self-doubt, she forged ahead a path where there was none and did not wait for someone else to give her a hand. I lead HR at an innovation firm and often share the author's advice with my employees.

- volunteer for opportunities and see how you can add value. Learn from others and network.

- the At-A-Girl journal in the book is genius and we often overlook or forget what we accomplish or what people say about us (as we tend to focus only on the negatives) but the At-A-Girl journal will make it super simple to write your end of year self-reviews.

- it's really about owning your outcome and taking action. finding opportunities either within your company that challenge you out of your comfort zone or finding a company that will value your skills.

- I love how she decided she was going to be a speaker and write a book on her niche as a way of cementing her subject matter expertise. So many people say they are going to build their brand but she did it -- and newsflash, anyone else can too if they dedicate themselves.

Although I'm mid-career, I feel this book made me feel I've been very complacent in my career and feel that because I worked so hard and achieved so much, people should be coming to me vs the other way around. Reading this book made me realize that I have taken the path of least resistance (due to burnout) and inspired me to rev up my engine and get after it again.

The DevelopHer Playbook is chock full of good advice. The heart of the matter is that we are all responsible for the magic we create for ourselves. There is no point in waiting around for our excellence to be recognized and rewarded, because spoiler alert, it won’t. With an authentic voice and relatable story, Hasson shares practical tips to get ahead professionally, one small step at a time.

This is the book I wish I had as a young professional, though the advice is actionable at any stage of your career. Even as someone in a data-adjacent field, I still found the advice easy to apply to my own personal experiences. I wish I could say if you were to take away one nugget of wisdom, it should be X. But I can’t - whether it’s investing in yourself, learning the value of networking, maintaining a professional digital social presence, or any of the other worthy pieces of advice - it’s useful if you’re motivated to do one or all. Major snaps for also addressing the importance of mental health and whole self.

I cannot wait to share this book with girlfriends. I also have a new go to gift for college grads and mentees. Do yourself a favor and grab a copy - no doubt you’ll feel the same. At the very least you’ll have a playbook to help you blaze a remarkable trail.

Excellent book for women.
You might think it won't work for you since she doesn't code in your language (unless she does but for me, she was lightyears away) but the base code will work across the board. In fact, it has such great recommendations that anyone would benefit from reading it.

I took notes and have left those key stickies on pages I will be returning to as needed.

Fantastic.
Worth every minute

(plus, she writes really well!!)

Read on the suggestion of a mutual friend I have with the author.

I found a lot of the advice mostly applicable as a male BIPOC. There are a few places where you kinda have to deviate but the book was affirming of the practices I stumbled into as a first gen white collar tech worker.

While presented in a self-promotional way that could have been as effective in article form, the advice is nevertheless practical for anyone looking to level up their professional life, not just for women in tech.

Lots of great ideas that I've only recently stumbled into 10 years into my engineering career that apply just as much to junior engineers as to senior engineers looking to move to Staff+. While I understand the power of growing an external LinkedIn network, some of this advice is a crushing for someone already working 40 hours a week with a family, but great advice for someone just starting out.

The hackathon advice is actually how I got my foot in the door and used those connections to get an internship which in turn lead to me getting a FAANG offer out of university.

I'd have loved to see more on tactical advice for networking in companies, across teams, across orgs, etc since that's where most engineers will really benefit.
