I’m Emily Sanderson. I used to be an ordinary girl. Now I’m a vampire, living at Mistwood Academy, a school for supernatural teenagers. It’s not how I pictured my life turning out, but I’ve made friends, and I’m doing okay in my classes. I know I’ll figure things out.
But then I’m attacked and everything changes. There are whispered voices. Threats. And dark magic. Something sinister is going on at Mistwood … something that results in murder.
Now I’m caught up in an ancient prophecy. A prophecy I need to stop before it’s too late.
Amy Hart is the author of young adult paranormal novels about vampires, witches, and other magical beings. Her love of paranormal fiction began at an early age when she would routinely check out the maximum number of books allowed on her library card. After growing up and completing a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Music, and a Master of Arts (Hons) in Art History, she found her way back to fiction. Born and raised in Auckland, New Zealand, she adores cookies, singing, and collecting too many journals.
Emily is a newly turned vampire who attends mistwood acadamy. Mistwood acadamy hosts all kind of supernatural beings, vampires, witches, werewolves a succubus and many more. At the start of the book Emily is atacked by an unknown person, she then finds herself the chosen one of a terrible prophecy.
I really liked this story, I loved how the acadamy hosts all the supernatural beings and not just the main ones.
I also liked how most of the characters are relatable, it's not hard to understand their choices. Emily her friends are very protective over each other which I really liked, friends should stick up for each other.
I feel like the romance in this book could have been more explored, when I read about romance I love to read about the tension between the characters and I missed that in this book.
I am looking forward to the next one and I do hope Emily and Logan's backstories will get some more explanations.
I got an Arc by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Emily has just become a vampire and is now at the Mistwood Academy for supernatural beings. Struggling with being turned into a vampire is hard enough, but when Emily is attacked and discovers a disastrous prophecy that involves her, secrets start to unravel and Emily and her friends have to find their bravery to survive.
I enjoyed following Emily's journey, I think she is a relatable protagonist and it’s cool to read from her POV. My favorite part of this novel was the details, the lengths the author has gone to in thinking about and creating this world and academy. There are nods to what you expect, like vampires thirsting for blood, but there’s also these other gems of details, like the smells the protagonist experiences when exposed to people’s feelings. And as a fellow lover of music, I enjoyed that Emily found solace in her music whenever she could, just one of the details that made her feel real. It took me a little while to get into the story but once I was, I was hooked–the plot is fun and intriguing.
If you enjoy magic and supernatural beings in a school setting with prophecies and chosen one vibes, check this out :)
I love a good academy read and I love a good supernatural read and this book is a great combination of both! It’s fast paced and grabs you straight away. Full of adventure, mystery, suspense, this captivating read held my attention the whole way through. The storyline is gripping and the characters are awesome and I loved the chemistry and the twists and turns and I am so excited to read more!
This book was an enjoyable read and one I finished in only a few hours. I love reading stories that take place in academies even though the reader does not really see the classes taught at the academy. This academy was a great one too! I like that the author mixed different creatures in a sole place. It's typically what you can expect from a place with teenagers and young adults. The student life is filled with rivalry and mean girls.
Emily is an interesting character and I really loved to discover her, her predicament of being turn into a vampire after being human is really interesting and makes for great thoughts into what it is being human, and keeping control of her beast. Her friends are great and interesting characters as well. I would have liked to know more about their own backstories, but hopefully that will be explored in book 2.
The story ends in a satisfying way, meaning that it can be read on its own, even though there is still a set up for book 2 with a new adversary. I did not give this 5 stars only because I guessed who was the one behind this early on and hoped I was wrong because this was not surprising and the showdown happened in the last 30 pages and I felt it was a bit rushed and could have been longer, with more explanation on why and how. Except these small details, I really enjoyed the book and the writing of Amy Hart!

I really enjoyed this book! While it got off to a bit of a slow start, it had enough mystery and suspense to keep me intrigued and interested throughout the entire book! Emily is a newly turned vampire who recently completed the Paranormal Program (you can read about that in the prequel novella) and began school at Mistwood Academy a few months ago. She’s made a couple of new friends and has a music program she loves, but she still lacks confidence and constantly doubts herself. She soon discovers someone is targeting her with dark magic and learns of an ancient prophecy in which she is to fulfill. Only this prophecy could destroy everything. Emily and her friends have to work together to try to stop this prophecy from coming true, but it’s impossible to know who to trust and who’s the enemy. This book seriously kept me guessing the whole way through. Just when you think you know, you realize you don’t. There were a lot of twists and turns and I love that it was so unexpected! I feel like the story wrapped up pretty well, although you can tell it isn’t over. I’m excited to see what’s to come!
It flowed nicely, the characters read well. There were a couple of things that didn’t really add up, but they didn’t diminish the story.
I really enjoyed Emily’s and Logan relationship, I think it’s sweet how they didn’t realise they were falling for each other until after it happened.
I don’t understand Mr Green’s involvement. Unfortunately, that the one but I don’t like, I don’t understand the ending to the story, nothing was explained, none of the bad guys were given a story as to why (except Derek), none of the good teachers were given a why other than “they are working with the SCC”. I just wish I had more information. It ended abruptly to me.
Overall good book, I enjoyed reading it. I would read the sequels and prequels if there were any.

This was one of the stories rhaf combined fantasy and mystery together. It was very engaging and I was able to pick up wherevef I left off with ease, I felt comfortable getting into this book and read it over about 3 nights. I loved the supernatural elements of the story and trying to find out who was after the protagonist, I would recommend this to most age ranges as if isn't too graphic for younger audiences but also isn't too immature for more adult audiences and the supernatural element is handy to bring in a teenage audience as well. Very good read!
I picked this up because the blurb spoke to me. I’m not usually someone who enjoys a vampire story but this one had me intrigued and by the first few pages I was hooked and desperate to know more. Emily was an amazing character, engaging, funny, and so relatable, watching her navigate this new life as a vampire, and also the mystery and intrigue of the school, the world she’d known nothing about before this, and then the prophecy that seemed destined to ruin her control and the life she was building for herself. I ended up breezing through the book in one sitting and very much enjoyed it!
What a fun paranormal story! It was so fast-paced and intriguing. I especially loved the group of friends and how they all had something unique about them (I want to know more about her succubus best friend, we so rarely see that magical creature in books!). There were some tropes that I don't usually like that I didn't even mind that much in this book (chosen one, prophecy, and group of mean girls at school).
Can't wait to read the next book in the series!! This book was intriguing and kept me engaged. The storyline was enthralling and I could not book the book down. Emily is character we could relate to when it comes to understanding boys and trying to decide who we should trust and navigating the waters in high school.
This one kept me up until 2am! I was hooked on Emily's story after reading the prequel novella, and Sapphire Eclipse takes off and never loses momentum. The world of Mistwood is rich and interesting and complex, but the story is nicely grounded in the feelings of a great cast of characters. Kept me guessing until the end, and I can't wait for book 2.
I love me a good supernatural paranormal academy story. I loved the suspense and the action and surprises along the way. That ending left me wanting more. I can’t wait to find out what happens next. So happy it’s a series and not just one book!
Emily's journey of dealing with her new circumstances & then finding out she is part of a prophecy is a captivating read. I quickly became invested in the characters and enjoyed the world the author has created for this series. I look forward to more in this series & by this author
Engaging from start to finish, this is one paranormal academy novel you don't want to miss. With fast paced action, relatable and realistic characters and a plot to set you on an emotional roller coaster ride, I really enjoyed reading this, and looking forward to seeing how the series continues.
DNF @10% This book was not for me. I just could not get into it. For me, it just felt it started in the middle. A bit about friendships already established etc..it was hard to feel that with characters.
So proud of Amy for her first book! So for me the book was a little hard to get into at first, it seemed a little too fast paced & but eventually settled into a story I was looking forward to reading how the end went. Now I’m really looking forward to the next book!
An okay read with a very fast paced plot. It almost seems like important scenes were cut as the plot was a bit jerky at times. Overall I enjoyed the storyline and the characters, but still have a lot of unanswered questions.
I could not put it down. It pulls you right in from the very beginning. I love the chemistry between the characters and the twists and turns throughout. 5 star read. Cannot wait for the next one!
