Having a London Season is not all it’s cracked up to be, as Lady Lorelei is quickly finding when attending her first ball in this free prequel to The Earl's Error of the Rebel Lords of London series. The lights are too hot, the corsets too tight. It’s enough to make one faint.
Thorne Gray, the earl of Kimpton, has no interest in debutantes, but what the devil is he supposed to do when one swoons at his feet? He catches her before she hits the floor, of course. An intriguing performance to be sure.
But a scheming and powerful aunt, determined to see her niece settled before her death, threatens Lorelei’s opportunity to enchant the man of her choosing.
Kathy L Wheeler is an award winning author in her contemporary and historical romances that include suspenseful twists. Her current series Rebel Lords of London is now available beginning with The Earl's Error,. Number six, Captivated by His Countess is scheduled for March 7, 2023. :)
Kathy L Wheeler loves the NFL, the NBA, musical theater (don't ask how her how many times she's seen Phantom of the Opera (12); or Wicked (7)), travel, (Europe, Grand Cayman, Mexico, All over the US), reading (practically a book a night), writing (15 books and counting) and karaoke (well....what can I say). She assists other authors in critiquing, formatting, and creating covers for their publishing dreams.
She writes contemporary and historical stories where the heroines save themselves and the heroes who honor their courage with suspense and humor.
She recently migrated from Oklahoma to the Pacific Northwest with her musically talented, lawyer husband, her adorable dog Angel (who lives up to her name...mostly) and their snooty cat (who is truly a snob), Carly.
Lorelei meets Thorne when she literally falls into his arms. The attraction between them is undeniable. Lorelei’s great aunt is pushing her to marry the first man who requested her hand, even though Lorelei dislikes him, thus sending her into a tailspin. This is a lively short story that introduces wonderful characters bound to show up in subsequent books. It is a quick read full of little gems.

Purchased and read after reading two others in this series. Love this couple and very sweet romance, but this printed paperback too pricy for this too short story.
Overall this was a very enjoyable story. I liked our heroine Lorelei a lot. She had a great personality and was feisty. I liked all the scenes at the ball. It reminded me a lot of when Jo and Laurie meet in Little Women. I wish I had known how short this novella was. I thought it was around 136 pages but it was on 83 pages. This is a prequel to another work following the couple. I plan to read more works by Ms. Wheeler this year. Short sweet historical romance. Spice is a ONE for language. Sex Scenes were brief and direct. My Goodreads rating is a 4. I enjoyed the story

I don't care if they are exerts or completed short stories. I hate when authors go, " it has to be a certain length let's just pile all this crap together." And it is invariably crap because if it was a proper anthology it would have other writers and more importantly an editor. Editor's tighten everything up and polish it. The main short story should have started at the meet cute. Nothing was gained by the frog and fitting scenes. I care nothing for useless toxic people so to show me that there is humanity under the selfish or crazy is a waste of time. Useful toxic people are okay but if you want to kill them go ahead. But again not going to win my heart by sudden acts of bravery; Lori, Walking Dead, or a backstory of character motivation; Maureen Robinson, Lost in Space. I'm stuck on make it make sense. The Maudley story is probably her most compelling but instead of focusing on her the author is focused on creating a saga of weak stories.
This book is a great introduction to this series. I actually read the second book first so it was nice to see how Thorne and Lorelei met. Their attraction was instantaneous and things seemed great between Thorne and Brandon. I wish that the book had been longer but it is nice they got a second book.
This was such a fun and charming story! This is the beginning of the Rebel Lords of London series. The characters were relatable and easy to fall in love with. A really enjoyable and entertaining story that had me captivated till the very end. This book will pull you right in and keep you engaged and smiling all the way through. The author does a great job of bringing the story to life with great characters that are lovable and endearing. She has a smooth writing style and does a great job developing the characters. The storyline flowed smoothly and the plot twists kept me turning the pages anxious to see what would happen next. I enjoyed this story and it is one I would definitely recommend!

This was a fun and enchanting prequel to the new Rebel Lords of London series. In this book, we are introduced to some of the characters that will feature in future books and in particular to Lorelei and Thorne. The book starts with a fun scene where the heroine literally faints into the hero’s arms and the author has done a great job of using twists to further the story. She also hints at some intriguing mysteries that I hope are solved in future books. This is an entertaining short novella that definitely entices the reader to check out the rest of the series.
A sexy Regency prequel to The Earl’s Error this is part of the Rebel Lords of London series a well written short story that held my interest until the end. I have now bought the Earl's Error. This is a new Author to me, who I will be reading more of.
Ok so I started to read book 📚 2. Then I decided to read this book first. I am glad I did. The story of them meeting and being crazy about each other. Wow! You just have to read. So far I am into the series. 💖
Great beginning g and waiting to see where the story will take us. Seems like at first was getting along with Thorne. me. wheeler is a new author from me.
Enchanting the Earl, Book 0.5 of the Rebel Lords of London series, was about Lord Thorne Gray, the Earl of Kimpton, and Lady Lorelei "Lor" Radcliff, daughter of the late Viscount Harlowe and older sister to Lord Brandon Radcliff, the new Viscount Harlowe. After grieving the loss of both her parents and once the mourning period was over, Lorelei's great aunt took her and her brother to London so she could participate in her first season and possibly make a good marital match, which could have proven to be difficult as she had no dowry and had the responsibility of her 13-year-old brother and his bankrupt estates to shoulder. Thorne, not planning on getting married any time soon despite his mother's machinations, found himself enthralled by the mere presence of Lorelei from the very moment she fainted at his feet. This prequel moved at a rapid and unsatisfying pace, leaving very little time for a true romance or relationship to develop. There was no time for the two main characters to get to know one another. They met a total of four times: first, at the ball where she fainted before any introduction could be made, the second time was for a ride in the park the following afternoon, then that night at the theater, and finally a second dance at another ball. There truly wasn't even time for emotions to develop either, other than a slight touch of angst, fear, and frustration. There was a split second of humor, but not enough to matter. The storyline, while it had promise, never really went anywhere and the ending left much to be desired. This book definitely did not earn a five-star rating. It was incomplete with a cliffhanger ending, which is something I normally do not enjoy...and did not enjoy this time either.
I'm disappointed in only one thing: the lack of development.
This actually has a great story, great characters, and yet... it's "explored" at such a rapid blink-and-you'll-miss-it pace that it feels like the story got pushed aside for the sake of getting to the ending. With slower pacing and more time to flesh everything out it could have been an epic unto itself, not just a "0.5" in a series.
The story goes by so fast I'm pretty sure all of the events take place in the span of a week (no, really...3 days travel, 2 evenings, 1 outing, 1 play...I'm pretty sure that was it), which is mind boggling to me.
Instead of the mutual, deep relationship that it easily could have been (every seed was there), it's a lust at first sight story that left me wanting so much more with these characters that just got...skipped.
I honestly expected to not like this title at all. I really don't go for this genre, and I only read it as part of a little book club I'm in, but i REALLY liked the characters, the setup, just about everything about it...but none of it was given any time, and I really feel like I missed out on a great story because of it.
DNF at 20% because I just couldn’t bring myself to continue a book that had me annoyed on basically every page.
There’s the awful cringe-fest of eyeroll-inducing names, for one. After Madame Bovine aka Lady Cow the modiste, Lady Dankworth, Lord Shufflebottom, and a mistress called Hollerfield I’m not even sure if this is meant to be serious HR or satirical. Just… no.
Then there’s the MMC, who catches the FMC in a faint and then proceeds to ogle her cleavage only to get an immediate erection. His inner monologue doesn’t get far past “I’m horny and I want her” even though he was thinking of his *excellent* mistress like five seconds before. Did I mention he goes straight for an uninvited kiss with FMC after exchanging like two sentences? Ugh.
On top of that it’s editing whoopsies galore. Tense-swaps in the middle of a sentence, missing punctuation, all-around sloppiness. Even if it’s a freebie that’s not exactly great marketing. If this prequel was meant to encourage me to read the rest of the series, then it didn’t meet the objective.
And finally… the style and tone don’t work for me at all. I’m filing this one under “author really isn’t for me”.
I’m not big on novellas for the very reason that they all tend to take forever to get somewhere then are rushed and jagged at the end. This one was no different.
My heart went out to Lore and Brandon and wished this was a full novel so I could read more but alas, was not meant to be.
Even though I liked the storyline and the characters, the abrupt and rushed ending kinda puts me off of trying another book from this author. Is it because it’s a novella or is it because that’s how the author writes?
I guess I wish it had more… you know? Not sure if I’ll try another from this new to me author.
On the plus side, it was very well edited and the flow was almost flawless, almost because of the rushed ending and it made for a very quick read. Just not sure how to view the author’s overall writing after the ending…
Not a bad book but… I was kind of up and down with this book I liked the characters but some of the dialogue did not ring true to me. It ended on a somewhat happy note but with so many unanswered questions. There is a sample of the next book and happiness is not what Lorelei and Thorne are experiencing at this point. The book does draw a reader in and does not want to let go. From what I read in the sample the next book will be even more captivating. Now my problem is how to rate it. There are parts that clearly five-star, but others that would only be a three-star. I so want to give this a five-star but I think maybe a low four-star would be better. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
